As a Moroccan, it makes my blood boil when I see these scammers intimidating tourists into paying crazy prices! I would like to see the Moroccan authorities act to impose heavy fines on all these crooks who give a bad image to my country! Edit Kurt why in hell are you folowing strangers by now you should know better?

As a Moroccan fan of yours for over a year, I appreciate your videos and exploring my country this time. The snake charmers were greedy, and you figured that out by yourself, the amount of money you gave them was more than enough. Even us Moroccans we avoid them, they'd say give whatever you want, then they'd ask for more. A tip of advice, you should have spare change with you in coins, so they won't be greedy when they see cash. As for the Jellaba price, it was reasonable. Try to bargain wherever you go, that's the culture. They're not intimidating as much as being pushy. Also, after you bargain, if they don't succumb to your offer, you can just leave the store, and they'll call you back. Never ride a bike for whatever reason man, don't expect generosity in a touristy place. You won't expect any Moroccan generousity whatsoever, that guy is a fucking jerk.

Another scam to be aware of is men in the area who asked you if you would like to come to their home and see what a traditional home looks like inside , I took the offer from a man who took me to the most filthiest home I have ever seen with clothes lying all over the floor , it was like a dungeon with no windows and he had a very savage dog inside his home that was barking at me , he gave me a cup of tea and wanted to sell all kinds of things which I didn't need , I was glad to get out of the home and he said '' could I buy him some milk '' he took me to shop I gave the shopkeeper the money for the milk and the scammer kept the change .

When I told them I was not interested at all, they got somehow aggressive with me, but I left without paying them anything. It is funny, I had seen videos of yours years ago, about Egypt. Shortly after i went there and your videos (and some from others, and also my personal experience in Marrakesh) helped me a lot to be ready to avoid scams (so thank you so much). I went Marrakech once for a weekend trip for my birthday and it was spoilt by one encounter at the market.
Me and my friend got lost and couldn’t find our way out and one guy pointed the direction out like in 25:38 so we said okay and went on our way. He then proceeded to just walk us on and was being friendly saying I’ll just take you. He was being nice at the time.
All of a sudden we’re in the middle of blocks and 6 guys jump out (his friends) hassling for money and tried to rob us. They failed.
Top tip: never take directions in Marrakesh, be wary of your surroundings or just don’t go.

a TIP for you Kurt, as a Moroccan who lives in Marrakech.
For the snakes and Monkeys thing, 10 Dh, 20 Dh is enough. If you wanna give them more, 50 DH is way more than enough. They'll keep asking you to give more no matter how much you give them. They just aim at taking the maximum. So just give them 20Dh and say : Lah'yesser or Lah'yaawen. and go away.
Same goes for the other Shows in the Jama'a Lefna Place. If you wanna see more Shows, just have change with you. 10Dhs, 5 Dhs. For the Shows in the evening, there is usually a "people circle" around the performers, and when they finish the show they'll go around collecting whatever people give them, so giving them 5dh 10 Dhs 20Dh, it's enough.
Be more aware of the people who actually give you a service (food, tattoo, something you consume) If you want anything, ask for the price before hand, because if you take the service first, they might ask for an absurd price, and no matter how much you haggle you'd still waste a lot. So haggle the price first (of course if they already have price tags you shouldn't haggle, like Restaurant Menus for example.)
Many people for example go get the Henna tattoo in Jama'a Lefna, and they don't ask for the price first, so they end up paying 500DHs for a simple flower tattoo in only one hand. When they could pay 100DHs for both hands (for simple tattoos, not complicated ones)
in traditional markets, always haggle. That's just the way it is.
You might also encounter a straight up scam in some restaurants that sell sea food (This one even Moroccans fall for it sometimes) so in traditional sea food restaurants, they have plates by size. So you might order a 50 DH plate, and they'll bring you with it some langoustine or some expensive fish, and when you go to pay, They'll tell you 50Dh for the dish you ordered and 100DH for the expensive fish. They are creative with how they'll upsale the extra dish so be careful. They might even just give you the expensive dish without saying anything. So make sure they give you what you ordered only. (the side dishes like the sauce and olives etc.. are not a scam though, they just come with your order)
Of course most restaurants don't do this scam, but some of them do, so just keep it in mind.
I hope you have a nice visit. And try visiting Dakhla city, it has some insane beaches.

You're welcome. There is so much more information and details to give TBH, and literally every city has its own culture, and you kind of need to adapt for each one. But overall, as long as you know the price before hand, you're good.
I just want to add that Kurt in the next video (Marrakech part 2) did just what I warned about 😅 He went to a Barbershop and he payed at least 10X the normal price. Instead of 20DH to 40DH max, He paid 400 DHs, which is insane.
Although to be fair, it was actually Kurt who proposed that price, The barber doesn't know English and simply said "Four", and Kurt thought it was 400 and he paid it. The barber probably wanted to say 40 DHs not 400.

I've been to 40 countries and my personal experience in Morocco was the worst I've ever had. The sad part is that I was looking forward to Morocco more than most of the places I've been to. The men in Fez and Marrakech were so full of shit that it became a very hostile experience. Every day I walked in the medinas there, many locals tried to play me and my gf for a fool. They'd say "the road/restaurant is closed let me walk you to the right place" and it was all lies. As an obvious foreigner I was a walking ATM advertisement...everyone wants your dollars and euros. Sometimes the older shopkeepers would start chatting and they'd know the area where I was from by naming nearby cities where their "friends lived" and it was a nice conversation...they'd ask you to have tea with them and we would say we would love to talk but don't want to buy anything...then they'd say no problem just want to chat...and of course after 10 minutes they would try to sell some carpets or something else lol. A very prolonged sales pitch under the guise of a friendly conversation. Western women get stared at or sexually harassed constantly even in the company of men. I almost got into several fights as s result. Fez was the toilet of Morocco for us. Awful people there. Even an official government "tour guide" just took you to places where he clearly got a commission of any crap we would have bought. His demeanor clearly changed each time we left a store without buying anything. We learned nothing of history or culture on the tour but we learned that the rug store can ship the rugs to anywhere in the world!

First of All the scammers cannot harm you physically so there is literally nothing u could lose so when someone puts a show for u even if u don't ask for it you should just tell urself if that was an experience u would never have had or did u enjoy it or ... if nothing meets your taste just ignore em and go by your day if u enjoyed or liked the experience presented tip the amount you feel is ratio'd to your satisfaction not to theirs and if they don't like that amount what I do is take the money back and leave.

First of all, Morocco is a North African country. I have traveled to many countries around the world and unfortunately, I experienced a scam in Germany for 70 euros. However, I didn't create a video expressing my frustration.
If someone discloses the price before a purchase, it cannot be considered a scam. With all due respect, it may be unwise to fall for such situations. Regarding the JALABA, the price is reasonable, and it is of high quality. Some items may be cheaper, but the JALABA deserves some respect.
As for the stereotypes about life in South Africa , such as black magic, superstitions, and racism, I must disagree. Stereotyping an entire country based on negative perceptions is unfair. Every place has its good and bad aspects.
I respect your opinion, but it's essential not to generalize or visit only the worst markets and then claim that represents the whole of Morocco. I could go to the poorest city in any country and create a video, but it wouldn't reflect the entire nation.

When I tried to leave, he was charging me 20€ because he started to explain me something that I didn't ask about, a 5 minute chat, then he got angry because I didn't want to pay him, still, I gave him 5€, he felt offended and left angry. Hello. I am a venomous snake keeper here in the United States, and I just wanted to chime in on something. I have many different species of cobras, like the ones you see in this video, as well as puff adders and many other vipers, elapids, etc.. When it comes to the snake charmers, they can't really "defang" the cobras. Snakes shed and regenerate their fangs all their lives, so even if they did yank them out, a set would grow back. It is possible that they remove the venom glands, although it's extremely risky because you can't be certain they won't grow their glands back, and you'd be hard pressed to find a vet that is willing to take them out in 2024. So in reality, they're risking their lives doing the snake charming, but I can't really say much because I risk mine keeping and handling them.🤣Now when it comes to how "snake charming" works, it has nothing to do with the music. The snake literally could care less about any sound coming out of the instrument. What is happening is that cobras are VERY observant snakes. They are alert and watching everything. So, what the "snake charmer" is doing, is he's shaking the instrument back and forth to draw the attention of the cobra to it, which makes it hood up and follow the movement. They aren't charming them at all. They're just pissing them off. Just wanted to give my little bit of info.🤣I love snakes and I hate to see them mistreated and used as a public prop. They are not social creatures and are nothing but stressed out in an environment like that.
