Contemporary worship, not CCM, but worship, is somewhere between basic chording, and the complex jazz chording of Pentecostal and holiness movements, musically. I’ve been trying to figure this out for a while, and finally decided to look up some tutorials. It’s really interesting that things have gone in this direction. To me, the add 2s and 9’s, etc., slightly jazz, but not completely thick jazz chording, to me, symbolizes the movement of the Holy Spirit through our human flesh. It’s a contrast but close and personal. Whereas, full jazz is like an expression of over-the-top joy and praise. There is a time for each. I’m classically trained as a musician and constantly trying to get out of the box. So I appreciate this very much! 😁
Thank you Sir, for this tutorial and teaching, I'm a Musician at my church, and this is very helpful and it's so much we can learn as musicians, and nomatter how advanced we are there's always room for growth, and learning. 😊
I first encountered this while watching the memorial service for George Floyd. Al Sharpton was preaching and was punctuated by some very tasty Hammond organ licks!
Brilliant chord progressions KC, love the choice of close inversions used regardless to what church or domination this is brilliant. I'm a Roman Catholic and as far as I know we all have one Lord God Heavenly Father so Amen to you. Keep these brilliant Chord patterns coming.
The first minute and a half just made me realize I've been missing the whole concept of using drop2s and drop3s depending on the chord inversion... Or I guess yeah (10 seconds later you clarified), those are just open voicing root position chords with an add2 haha. Having been busting my brain memorizing shapes for jazz chords for so long, I forgot about the warmth and calm of simply just adding a 2 to a triad. Thanks for this!
