Good stuff, Marine. I am not a beginner, more of an advanced intermediate. You make me think about stuff I already know (or should know) in different terms. Sometimes I wonder though, how far can you take these improvements before the progression doesn't sound like the progression anymore?
Absolutely. It can go really far! I think we need to stay aware of the musical style we’re playing and try being tasty! Don’t add them all haha but can be interesting once in a while!
U are always playing the passing chord on strongest best. That, by definition, is not passing chord. The 3rd best in 4/4 and the Last beat in 3/4 is most effective. Besides, it is dictated by the melody notes being coloured. If the note clashes harshly with the passing chord then it isn't ok unless u deliberately do it.
Thanks for a really useful and clear explanation Marine! This will really help my playing
