    Excellent video and thanks for the history lesson. We came across SASCO about 5 months ago by complete accident, and as a ghost town lover I was in heaven. We tried again in early February, but turned around at the water crossing after watching a truck nearly get stuck in the high water. Thank you again, your videos are truly exceptional.

      Those water crossings can be tricky. No real way of knowing the condition before leaving. 🙁 But hey! Awesome on running across Sasco by accident! I bet it was a happy moment. 👍

    My friend sent this to me - we grew up in north Tucson together and used to go out here to party in high school. We just called it "Red Rocks" due to the nearby water tower/exit/small farming community at I-10 which has now grown into a full on housing development.

      We've been to the museum a number of times and it's one of our faves. Nothing quite like it. It's definitely one of our goals to film but it would take both of us there as it's essentially a tour underground, so you only get one shot to capture everything, and we're not the types to ruin an experience/tour by blabbing into a camera. Thankfully I filmed Glenn turning the key when we recently went in Dec with family. I've been wanting him to be able to do that for ages! 😊

    For the routing, is it OnX? What subscription do you have? OnX app says this loop is pretty hard, yet how do you feel(rate) about the difficulty of terrain in person? After watching your video, I want to follow the route with kids. Thank you!

    • @CactusAtlas
      @CactusAtlas  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Yup! We use OnX Offroads and just the Premium subscription. I think Glenn found the route pretty easy with the exception of few spots, but was still able to make the loop in 2WD. I would say having some clearance would be a good thing. But a 4/10? Not really. We have a video coming out Thursday that also gets rated a 4/10 and they are vastly different, so... the difficulty rating is one thing we find a bit misleading at times (then again, trail conditions can change).

    • @dduke2368
      @dduke2368 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I'm a local from Red Rock and have explored every inch of the route you took and more. I just wanted to share that the remains of the jail is real close to the hotel in-between the smelter and hotel. Also, the dwellings where most people lived with direction from your video would be around the spot where the last cow crossed the road on the right side of road (south side). There are a few remnants left there but hardly anything at all. Also did you know that the road you drove on between Silverbell Mine and Sasco Smelter was actually once the old railroad bed that a train traveled going back and forth daily with supplies, water, and workers? I found an old gun too off the beaten path about a 1/2 mile from the road just north of the Sasco that from 'ametuer' research done on it shows to be a Smith & Wesson safety hammer less 32 cal 5shot pistol, aka the "lemonsqueezer" believed to be the model dated front 1890-1910. Pretty interesting area all around ! Advice to anyone making the treck out, do NOT come during monsoons ... trust me... speaking from experience . Have fun and safe travels!

    • @CactusAtlas
      @CactusAtlas  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Sometimes it feels so amazing that something so old can still be found. 👍 Thanks for all the info and yeah... driving most any offroad trail during monsoon time can be a risk.

    Hi. Yesterday we headed to Sasco from Tucson. Once off the paved road, we came to the river crossing. One ATV made it across, but 2 pickup trucks decided they didn't want to risk it, so neither did we. Is there a way to reach Sasco coming from the other end of the loop, thus avoiding the river crossing? We checked several maps, but could not find an alternate road, coming from Phoenix. Thanks.

    • @CactusAtlas
      @CactusAtlas  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      If it’s the place where I crossed in the video where you had the problem, I imagine you could start at the southern end of the route I too off of Avara valley down by the missile silo, then take that same road I did into sasco. Then you’d have to go back the way you came and not make a loop out of it. Of course, if I am understanding your dilemma correctly. So essentially trace my steps in my video, go to Sasco, then turn around and go back the way you came. But, I do not know the area well and if that is not what you meant, would then resort to a tool like ON X to look for alternate roads crisscrossing the area and start exploring, which might be a fruitless endeavor. Wish I had better advice, but another viewer may see this and offer a better recommendation.
