  • These little lotion bars are so simple and fun to make! They're great for travel or in your bag, and they also make a great lip balm too 😘 #lotionbar #diy #homemadelotion #solidlotion
    Basic recipe:
    3 oz Coconut oil
3 oz luxury butter (I'm using a combo of Shea and Cocoa)
3 oz liquid oil ( I'm using a combo of Jojoba and Almond)
3 to 4.5 oz Beeswax (depending on how hard you want your finished bar)
    1/4 t Vit E oil
    1/4 t Carrot powder
1/4 t Arrowroot powder (you can use all arrowroot, if you don't have carrot powder)
Fragrance or Essential oils of choice

*Keep* the small bottles after you've emptied them! Refill from your large container, they're easier to work with, and harder to make mistakes with when adding small amount to whatever.😉

A great tip I saw another creator do was melt the whole block of beeswax down and then set it into tiny pellet moulds, pop them out and keep them in a big container or ziplock bag. Makes them easier to measure out for a recipe too

The tiny pellets are so much easier to measure!

@@EllenRuthSoap thank you for sharing all your gorgeous recipes. I’m about to make some lotion bars. I live in South Africa so I hope they work well. I’ve never used a solid lotion bar before. Is this your favourite formulation?

Thank you for this recipe! I made mine with Shea and Mango butters as my luxury oils, and apricot seed oil for the liquid oil portion. It’s keeping my hand eczema at bay with all of this extra hand washing. I love watching your channel!

Love your channel! Thank you for sharing some of your recipes, especially the soap. It helps a beginner, like me, see the whole process. I also love how you packaged these lotion bars. Very cute and clever!
One tip for you. When you have big chunks of bees wax, break them in to some smaller, but still big chunks. Then line a cookie sheet or even a 9 x 13 pan, with parchment paper making sure it goes up all the sides. Put some of the chunks of wax in there and turn your oven on, really low around 150-170 F, anything higher could be dangerous and cause the wax to brown even more. Let the wax melt. When it's melted take it out and let it cool. If a little of the melted wax gets away and ends up on your pan, just warm it back up and pour it onto the paper. This method works great!
Now you have thin sheets of wax that you can break up and store. It's makes it super easy to break off pieces to measure and get the amount accurate. The thin sheets melt faster also.

Thank you from me too! Excellent idea!👏👏👏💗 (spoken as someone who has several hundred pounds of beeswax sitting around in brick sized blocks) that are a nightmare to work with and store!you've just given me a very pleasant weekend's worth of past time to use.😉😁🤷‍♀️😍👏👏 (one of those things that keeps getting shoved to the end of the todo list because it's just SUCH a tedious chore and seems like there's no real solution..., yet now, I've suddenly gotten an inspiration!)
      That's a RAINBOW!🤷‍♀️💞🥳🦄

I'm going to make this for my girls that are traveling to Spain in June, much better than carrying jars. Also wanted to reach out and pray that you and your family are safe, the tornados did horrible damage.

Yes, these make great traveling bars! And thank you for the prayers, our house was okay, but so many have damage. It's sad.

Made our first soap loaf tonight because of your video. Not sure how it will turn out, we did a couple of different additives and had to re-batch the recipe to our mold size. Fingers crossed! Thanks so much for all of your great videos, you make it look way easier haha

Wow, i just made my lotion bars tonight. I twigged it slightly, and FO Lavender & Patchouli blend, smells divine & feels amazing. I used organic beeswax from a friend who gives us honey. I used EVOO, which we collected from another friends olives. So blessed to live in Greece, with all these rich ingredients for soaps. Thank you Ellen, for your generosity in sharing your recipes, tips, stories & creativity. What a blessing you are. You have taught me so much, inspired me to start a new business in my retirement now that im in Greece. Only thing is, the prices for everything is like 3-4 times higher than the US & my hometown Australia😱😫… lucky i can source some things cheaper, but with 24% tax on everything, its like 😲 when you mention prices. Keep going Ellen, you’re awesome 😍🙏💜

As I render my beeswax from my hives I will pour it into large and small cupcake liners on my digital scale to measure out 1 ounce and 1/2 ounce portions and then pop them out when they harden and store them in an airtight container. The extra step saves me so much time and now I no longer have to fight the “brick” or measure! Use firm liners or double up, then let cool in the tins. I love your recipe!

Those look great! Thanks for sharing, you are too kind. I think the coffee filter in the tin is a nice touch. They look nice and rustic and have a little country feel. LOVE IT

Thank you for sharing this beautiful recipe. You always give so much thought to your creations! Since there is no water phase, isn’t this more of a butter bar than lotion?

    • @EllenRuthSoap

Thank you! Yes, I guess it could be considered a "butter bar" , I like the sound of that😉
