Damn ninjas cutting onions... this brought back memories... Uematsu-sensei is arguably the best RPG video game composer... And to do that with the chips back then... This chapter was an emotional rollercoaster... thank you Red Bull Music!

I feel fortunate to have been able to watch a live performance by Uematsu (Earthbound Papas) and to be able to shake hands with the man. Equally fortunate to have met Sakaguchi at the same event, albeit completely unexpected, as he was just there to visit his old friend (Uematsu). Nobuo Uematsu is one who can do no wrong when it comes to his music. The man will forever be a legend in how he views and composes music and specific emotional expression in video games.
4:50 He made an opening prelude for just before 30 minutes. And he did, and the prelude is the masterpiece from all the games in fantasy world including the final fantasy series.
Thank You RedBullMusic you guys have no idea what his series means to me. Please try to add to Netflix and capitalize off of this amazing experience. I don't think these videos are getting enough exposure but I appreciate it all.
Great video, but at the same time, I feel like you all missed out on a lot of other great composers. Hopefully you'll make more parts for the role-playing genre.
it wouldve been nice if you guys woudve talk about the music of mega man X or breath of fire or demon's crest or resident evil or heck maybe licensed game music such as the snes version batman returns soundtrack or super star wars trilogy snes soundtracks or duck tales nes version soundtrack wouldve been awesome that more of the mainstream public should know
this diggin in the carts is a very good series so far! However, althought the composer died a few years ago, if you left out the music of secret of mana i will never forgive you! The same goes for the best snes musics ( dkc trilogy,smw2, or castlevania 4 ) !
Hello, on another episode 1-4 and episode 6 was the French subtitles for the episode and 5 are missing French subtitles. And would it be possible to have them or not please? ^^ Thank you in advance.
did 7 really have any music worth raving 'bout (other than one-winged angel)? remember liking the initial pump-up music of AVALANCHE getting off the train in the intro.. and the song from the city of ancients.. but also felt it was some of the most repetitive tracks ue's ever been associated with. really feel that [pre-millennium] was a time in vg where compressing all of the fear/drama/xtc into a chip was done, finished, and they just could directly score music and press it to the disc.. thusly losing quite a bit of magic. it was not really until X where they could actually capture the fantasy from an actual orchestra creating the tracks for these games, that it was the sync. 7,8,9... just made caricatures, an homage to the daze when this franchise had ue's magic compressed into a squarewave. also, never cried so much in my life watching this
FleetwoodMacadamia FF7 probably has the most memorable music out of any FF for me personally...the boss music..the world map..jenovas theme..great stuff!
VII intentionally used MIDI sound. The score is as much a masterpiece as the game it accompanies, because it fits it so well. VII has a very mysterious, even creepy atmosphere, so of course it doesn't sound like other FFs. And an orchestra has yet to make a better version of One Winged Angel. They are beautiful, but lack the energy.
This documentary was stellar for the 5/6. The last episode, unfortunately, is a blatant Ground Zeroes spot, and it is a pity, because without that useless part they could find the minutes to put Manami Matsumae in the series (it's incredibile she had to be cut out...).
Good video, but it's kind sad that some persons (the white hipster-ish guys) in this video only praise FF7 and act as if FF 6 and it's ground breaking music doesn't exist. It's also kinda lame that they didn't talk to Yasunori Mitsuda, or Motoi Sakuraba, or Hiroki Kikuta; this video didn't even briefly mention or play any clips of music they composed, many of which are as MAGNIFICENT as the music in FF 6 and FF 7....
I genuinely love that Nobuo Uematsu got his own episode. He deserves it.
I kept tearing up in this episode. Thank you Nobou Uematsu for creating such beautiful and emotional music.
Anybody else cry when "The Serpent Trench" started playing at 2:29? The beautiful shots of Japan mixed with that track really moved me.
I cry. Quite literally, this music makes me cry.
"I think that the more limited people are, the more ingenious they begin to get" I love this man
"it was like a game to me"
ahhh yes, the perfect time to invoke "by gamers, for gamers." to explain the absurd quality level
Damn ninjas cutting onions... this brought back memories... Uematsu-sensei is arguably the best RPG video game composer... And to do that with the chips back then... This chapter was an emotional rollercoaster... thank you Red Bull Music!
Ninjas cutting onions, I've never heard that phrase, I like that.
Gosh I love this man. He’s a literal genius and so humble and precious❤ and yes I cry to so many songs too, Nobuo

Thank you so much!
I've been on youtube since 2008, and this is easily the best video i've ever seen. Thanks for this.
Nostalgia overload. Thanks so much for this video. Now if only I understood Japanese, so I could fill in the blanks.
You can turn on subtitles dude :)
I honestly didn't think a TH-cam feature would work.
Nobuo Uematsu should be appreciated more.
Thank you for this documentary! It is very well put together.

this series kicks ass
Serpent trench!
20 years later still engraved in my mind!
Only 22 comments? This is series is epic!!!!
Japan has the best VGM.
They know what they are doing,
I bet the composers are super chill.
Thank You RedBullMusic you guys have no idea what his series means to me. Please try to add to Netflix and capitalize off of this amazing experience. I don't think these videos are getting enough exposure but I appreciate it all.
Really hoping to meet the musical genius behind The Legend of Zelda franchise
datboirb
Man, how incredible... Uematsu made that famous prelude Final Fantasy song in just 30 minutes!
Anybody else listen to Japanese vgm as their main genre? I listen to it almost exclusively now. Have not met many people who listen to it.
+cpthurme I have listened to almost excluselive SID tunes a while back
Me.
Me
Why is the audio so heavily shifted/balanced to the left? Doesn't sound right.
Wow professionally produced. Amazing video. Will watch them all :)
This episode just touch my heart... Awesome!!!
Great episode, though I wish they covered more than just Final Fantasy
+Gorlokk Needs more Dragon Quest and Mother
monolyth421
I heartily agree.
当時プレイしていた年代なので、日本のゲームが世界に評価されると自分の事のように嬉しい😃
i just listened to purple haze and wow they're totally right, it's right in there
Ah, Thunder Planes. I haven't been there in 10+ years. How could I forget tryna get Lulu's celestial?
This show is the best!
will you guys talk about Koichi sugiyama Please
Great video, but at the same time, I feel like you all missed out on a lot of other great composers. Hopefully you'll make more parts for the role-playing genre.
Terra's Theme :)
Love this series, although they mislabelled "pulse De chocobo" by Masashi Hamzu as "swing de chocobo" by Uematsu
Any video to recommend similar as this ? Arcade-retro culture. Thanks !
it wouldve been nice if you guys woudve talk about the music of mega man X or breath of fire or demon's crest or resident evil or heck maybe licensed game music such as the snes version batman returns soundtrack or super star wars trilogy snes soundtracks or duck tales nes version soundtrack wouldve been awesome that more of the mainstream public should know
2:45 where is this location?
Put the Portuguese subtitles, Please!
this diggin in the carts is a very good series so far!
However, althought the composer died a few years ago, if you left out the music of secret of mana i will never forgive you!
The same goes for the best snes musics ( dkc trilogy,smw2, or castlevania 4 ) !
The composer of Secret of Mana is alive.

hmm strange, than a couple of years ago it was a false news after all. Great!:)
Hello, on another episode 1-4 and episode 6 was the French subtitles for the episode and 5 are missing French subtitles. And would it be possible to have them or not please? ^^ Thank you in advance.
what machines did he have to use to program his music?
did 7 really have any music worth raving 'bout (other than one-winged angel)?

+kuribo04 uh it's not MIDI

2:30 *Shivers*
I felt the same way, and serpent trench is one of my favorite songs on ff6.
Yeah, amazing theme. Also I love so much 'kids run through the city'
Dude me to lol. Kinda wish they would let you download the whole series as one big movie. that would be awesome.
Good video, but it's kind sad that some persons (the white hipster-ish guys) in this video only praise FF7 and act as if FF 6 and it's ground breaking music doesn't exist.

Don’t forget chrono trigger! Phenomenal soundtrack
Geeked out!
Why did they play Thunder Plains when Uematsu didn't do that song? 🤔
Episode 6 cuts off before the end. Please fix it .
ff7 was the shit; need a hip hop beat with some samples from ff7! RedBullMusic
theres plenty of that on youtube bro, just search for it :)
