@@Drewcifer, as a person who really appreciates metal will break down a song or bands music and notice the difference I always like giving bands a few listens before I decide. Props to your for the warship of the genre..
War metal is just a hard genre to get into, when I first started listening to war metal I was literally just using it as background music when I was playing Halo until I genuinely started to understand it.
You explained this very well man! I like how you broke down the differences between Pantera and Proclamation and any other music and lumping Metal into one category is just bullshit! I still get some of my metal genres mixed up according to certain people but never has it ever all sounded the same🤘🏼🤘🏼☠☠🤘🏼🤘🏼
The thing that got me into War Metal was the 1st Primitive Warfare tape. After that, I started listening to a bunch of it. I got that ASM stuff, got Goatkraft, Diocletian, etc... in the beginning, I wasn't really feeling it that much but it took like one good album to open me up to the rest. I got that Disemperium one too recently, and I'm liking that, and it is super harsh. You're on point, I think, with that punk rock analogy. All this big production black metal stars waning on a person.
Great video! This is something I hate hearing myself. The biggest one that kills me is Proclamation is just a Blasphemy clone. Not at all. Even close. They are WAY more hellish, dissoant, and atmospheric than Blasphemy. Blasphemy is about the riffs and the grooves. People are dumb.
I'm a newbie to War Metal 100% but for me it surprisingly was one of the few Genres I did not in fact need anything to get me edged into it, no not at all. All I had to do was get to hear Destruktor's song "Forever the Blood Shall Flow" and IMMEDIATELY it was one of the best tuneskis I've even heard slightly categorized as Blackened Death or Black/Death Metal whatever, and I'm not sure if they count? but the same list had Archgoat, which I had already known of, but I must have confused them for Goatmoon or something (probably can see how that would happen) because I thought I had heard Archgoat and it sounding extremely bad, but no I listened to some of their stuff and I love it. Goatmoon however if they're that openly nazi band (which honestly it comes off as just for the sake of being edgy and offensive) I heard people shill that front to back and when you listen especially comparing to just Destruktor, it's absolute gaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaarbage like THIS is the "rough and tough" Black Metal that people are hyping up??? Then I'll rather listen to Stallagh unironically, and I'm not jokin'. But yeah, I definitely have to check out some Abysmal Lord and some more bands in the War Metal camp, there's stuff that has both good and terrible production in every Genre, so narrowing it down to that and saying it all sounds the same just doesn't make aaaaany sense.
People cannot understand the primitive raw as fuck anti human anti life feeling that war metal channels. It has true fucking feeling and no it doesn't sound the same.
This video has changed my viewpoint on War Metal. Proclamation, Black Witchery, Morbosidad, Blasphemy etc are some bands I've liked, but ror the longest time I felt war metal was redundant and I don't understand why. You can say the same thing about literally any other subgenre that I like such as thrash, black, brutal death metal ect. This video has changed my mind.
War metal isn't all the same per se, but it doesn't differ nearly as much as other genres... and that's kinda what I like; I enjoy the consistency which means I end up liking almost all war metal because it is so similar
I often see J Dawg take jabs at War Metal in his videos. He says he like some stuff, but then says alot of it just blends together for him. Or something like that. Im surprised he isn't MORE into that genre. The music certainly "fits the bill" ,is metal as fuck, "down with the devil" .The songs are memorable. IIdk, i just don't get that thought process when he says that. I'd like to see you and him collaborate together on a video someday.
@@Drewcifer it just has this unique sound very vintage but modern. You know when I go back to listening to suffocation or cannibal Corpse the rifs just kind of remind me of coding or something like that as opposed to telling a story. A very dark hateful brooding story
I think for people who don't have much experience with Bestial Black Metal some of the bands can come off as sounding the same upon first listen. For example when I was getting deeper into Bestial Black Metal I at the time liked Archgoat, Bestial Warlust, and Black Witchery and was trying to get into Blasphemy, Early Beherit, and Proclamation and when I initially listened to Proclamation my first thought in my head was "This sounds exactly like Blasphemy" even when I was new to the style though I could easily tell apart Black Witchery from Proclamation and Archgoat from Bestial Warlust so I don't understand how people into Underground Metal would think it all sounds the same. You could tell and pick out similarities between certain bands within Bestial Black Metal like Abominator has a somewhat similar sound to Bestial Warlust and Proclamation has a somewhat similar sound to Blasphemy but they are definitely not clones. I think it's something of an acquired taste that you need to develop in order to fully appreciate.

I guess it is more a thing to the ear of the beholder. Or if your mind can bring an image to your imagination while listening to the music. War metal is pure primal. I see the band playing on some desolate battle field ..and to me it is a battle between demons & angels. You have to put yourself into the music. Probably another reason that people that say that it sounds the same is exactly your point, They don't get it. And that is fine. Whatever floats their boat. Black metal takes me to the opposite world from the flames of Hell to this plane, snow & ice. I guess what I am saying is that if you cannot put your self in to what the artist is going for.. that person will not get it until they realize it.
I don't want to accuse it of sounding the same and I think it has great roots, but it I can barely here anything that's going on in the music, I can barely get through 3 seconds of a song, especially the band Revenge, and I like black metal like 1349, Behexen, Darktrone, Enthroned, Immortal, and Ragnarok
Ok sometimes War metal is hard to get into but sounds same thats hilarious.I my self a warmetal fan.Can someone do please tell me how the hell bands like Goatpenis,Black wichery even Bestial warlust sounds same.
I’m new getting in to war metal. Unfortunately, I have to give you and your unflavored dirt coffee loving ass. All the credit for me actually listening to war metal
I like war metal when it has some tempo changes and don't get me wrong quite a few bands do. Blasphemy had tempo changes along with the barbaric war metal blasting. Not to say that I dislike bands like Conqueror or Black Witchery, but it seems to me that those bands are constantly blasting to the point where it gets dull. I haven't listened to War Cult Surpemacy in many years so maybe I'll give it another spin. I respect Black Witchery(RIP Tregenda) and I like them in a live setting, but I hate to say it, their most memorable songs are their Blasphemy covers. Bands like Abysmal Lord do a better version of war metal IMO. Blasphemophagher is definetly one of my favs from the war metal subgenre. They incorporated not only tempo changes, but at times almost punk like beats. That's when war metal is at it's best. That being said war metal is still more respectable than 99% of brutal death metal who poorly imitate Suffocation.
I agree on almost everything except I love Black Witchery and Conqueror. When Im in the mood to have my ass handed to me with aggression, those are 2 of the best. Also, I bet you'd like Blood Chalice from Finland. Fuckin baaaanger!
