- In this video, I traveled across the world to one of the biggest hotspots for digital nomads in Bali, Indonesia. I got to ask strangers a bunch of questions about what they do for a living, how much money they make, advice for others, and a bunch of other spicy questions about the lifestyle costs in Bali, business, and philosophy.
I've always wondered what types of people are working online in Bali, so make sure you watch the entire video because I was able to find a lot of really cool people with very interesting income streams and businesses!
I hope this video inspires you if you're looking to become a digital nomad and make money online! My goal is to motivate you guys with success stories from other people that are crushing it, so that you can learn from their experiences and replicate their success. There is so much opportunity out there and money is flowing all around us, and I think this video proves that there are so many creative ways you can make money online nowadays.
I think being a "passport bro" and having complete location and time freedom is the best lifestyle possible - and I was truly inspired getting to visit Bali. We filmed this video in late July 2023, during my 3 week trip to Australia, Bali, Jakarta, Singapore, and Tokyo! We stayed for about a week in an epic Villa in Bali: Villa Atas Ombak in Seminyak!

Digital nomads have a terrible reputation in Bali. Most don't even pay taxes which you're supposed to in Indonesia. If you're going to take advantage of a less developed country you should pay your respect and fees.
edit: TAX IS NOT 2.5% in INDONESIA IDK WHERE SHE GOT HTAT FROM
All of the people interviewed don't have jobs that help them build wealth except the guy with the SaaS company. The engineering girl making $30,000 Euro per year is a joke. She is significantly underpaid. Any company paying her market rate would not let her work remotely like that. I work in the field so I should know. The OnlyFans girl is probably taking 5-10% management fee. This equates to $2,500 - $5,000 per month. They are all sacrificing long time security for short time pleasure. There is nothing wrong with this. We should be honest about it and not sugar coat it.

Here are a few tips from my own experience:
* Start by building a strong online presence. This will help you attract clients and employers, and it will also make it easier to work remotely.
* Be patient and persistent. It takes time to build a successful digital nomad career. Don't get discouraged if you don't see results immediately.
* Network with other digital nomads. There are many online and offline communities where you can connect with other people who are living the digital nomad lifestyle. This can be a great way to learn from others and get support.

You'll notice this a lot with certain types of people they wont' say immigrant. Americans are well known for hiding behind the word expat rather than saying they're an immigrant it's so ridiculous.

I disagree- immigrant usually means you have an obligation to the country which means paying taxes, maybe serving military and some form of allegiance. None of these nomads pay any income tax to the place they work/vacation at

I wouldn't necessarily take what some of these people say at face value. The young black software entrepreneur was pretty straightforward about saying that his business brought in $1M in annual revenue, but that's totally different than actual profit. So he didn't really answer the question. A lot of the younger people were just marketers for OnlyFans and I personally wouldn't consider the marketing side something that is adding value to society, even if it pays well I wouldn't consider it enriching and rewarding. I mean, you're convincing men to pay for something that they can get for free. Like the guy who talked about how important it was to "find the right people" after talking about how his favorite place to meet people was at the gym because he found "like-minded people" who "care about staying fit". Apparently, that was his only criteria for "the right people". A lot of these people probably spend all day at the gym, work far less than they claim, and earn far less than they claim. A lot of them don't have their lives together like they claim. Don't forget the guy who stays healthy by avoiding gluten!

@@jonyfrany1319 Yes a lot of digital nomads come from, well maybe not even rich but above-average income families. These parents might have made their own dreams come true at some point, and will raise their kids with the mindset that they must also make their dreams come true. In most cases their parents have achieved enough financial independence that these kids never even think about the idea of having to financially help out or take care of their parents at any stage, so they can focus entirely on their own needs and wants. The parents will also be able to give them solid advice on finance and business, from their own experience. On top of that, if anything goes wrong they can often rely on their parents for help, such as a quick interest-free loan or they can return home for a few months if their plans fail. It's from this position that many digital nomads operate, their parents can offer them a certain peace of mind.
I really love to see young people doing well and cracking the system. There is hope in this world.
Its not just young ppl. There was a guy he interviewed who was 38. Its anyone.
There's only hope in this world Francisco when people return to fully submit to God, no longer want to fight wars, show love and compassion and eliminating poverty comes BEFORE making a profit. That's what I have learned over several decades as a capitalist. Currently the wealthy are getting wealthier, the poor are growing in size globally, atheism is growing worldwide among the youth and there are wars all around the world over resources. Looks like something very big is about to happen to the commercial/residential real estate and financial markets worldwide as well.

Unfortunately cracking the system comes at a cost to the balinese locals, being priced out of their own communities. I'm with you tho, the system in the west could be a lot better for young people, at least here in the UK.

i have lived in Bali 25 years, longer than most of the people being interviewed have been alive. When I first got here, Canggu was a tiny sleepy village full of tice fields and dirt roads. I made a lot of money exporting Indonesia made products to DIY companies around the world. Now retired, I moved away from the crazyoness of the south (seminyak, kerobokan, canggu etc) as it is just not my cup of tea, the traffic is insane, and there are too many people. Now living high in the mountains in a small farming village in a beautiful wooden house overlooking the sunrise over Mt Agung.
Good luck to all the youngsters down south, But I wouldn't go back there for all the tea in China.

I guess the ones making businesses to serve foreigners are rich. All the others are poor.
@@justmeagain7 everyone in bali is very well off. those business serving foreigners and local tourists also trickled down indirectly to smaller businesses that supplied them
Balianese locals that work don't make a lot in comparison obviously, but their daily expenses are extremely cheap by our standards. Their average meal is around 1.5$ USD or less at the local local places. Also bali businesses have been booming especially all the F&B Businesses that cater to foreigners and Tourists. Beach Clubs have an abundance of staff. From what i can see locals are well off for their standards and many have jobs and are working.
Foreigners coming in has brought a lot of wealth to the locals.
Take a look at the streets and it tells you how locals live 🕵♀️
every single person you interviewed has such a relaxed energy to them
everyone seems to look unusually healthy too. most people living in the west look unhhealthy

Most of them come from wealthy families and are well set off. With that said it's going to cause a problem the more people move there, causing housing and other costs only to go up which the locals can't afford.

That is already the case..The place where this is filmed, Canggu, is where the majority of these people stay and there is no local-friendly-budget housing there

Getting a fron end engineer job after a 3 month bootcamp alone is just wild to me because that's not the standard unless she had prior relevant experiecne.
It's not the full story or she got connections / got lucky / was recruited for being a chick. Same bs with the UX/UI bootcamps. It's just a money grab.

@@tricallyourmama 30k in Asia is huge. Even in Bali it's very good. Not all bootcamps are bs but very often they make unrealistic promises. Also as of today AI has the level of someone who's been learning programming for a year. It will get much better very quickly. I recently decided to give up UX/UI design after several years as the field is being trashed by AI, UI kits, copy and paste ... Keep that in mind.
Check the website. The bootcamp is technically for women, trans, lgbt, minorities etc. They get companies wanting to recruit those who took their course to fill the so called ''gender gaps'' in a field mostly dominated by men. Its good for women, sucks for men

Last thing I was expecting was an OF manager. No mom wants her son in a gang or in jail and no dad wants his daughter spreading her cheeks for strangers and his friends to see online. She said people will judge, but I'm typing this because the more people see such a career as how I typed it above, the less likely the chance my little sister and future daughter/s will get into it.

I wasn't surprised really. And the other guy was OF marketing person. Feeding the distraction and addiction industry. I wish more of these digital nomads did jobs that benefited society rather than feeding dysfunction and unhealthy habits.

@@reeeeneeustaquio374 yes and no. That depends on you and your mindset. I know at 18 I had no clue what I wanted to do for a career.. but that’s not always the case. If you have a specific career going after that requires college education, then finish college, but what I can tell you and today’s age you do not need a college degree for a lot of things.

The cops are notoriously super quick in finding and arresting people associated with adult content, much faster than arresting corruptors, rapist, and domestic abuser.

I usually dont see such interviews but I wanna say that I have learned so much from this video.. u picked up people who are doing so good and they shared so many important things.. its like a podcast. Great work
Although it's great that this video shows the positives of ppl working in Bali as digital nomads, I believe we should also be aware what are the negative impacts to the local communities by this influx trend, an example is one of the interviewees was mentioning about real estate ventures, foreign involvements has severely affected the market and local livelihood, take a look at Canggu and you'll understand. My small plea to you whom wishes to go to Bali for this intention, is to do your research on the situation there and understand your wider footprint on the island before making your decision.
No need to worry, Indonesia prohobit foreigners to own land or even a piece of building, plus Bali is still relatively cheap for locals, you can still eat a plate of nasi campur for less than a dollar.

@@dg-ov4cf Easy said, but as a local person I may say that there is no black or white to this story, many lifes have been impacted for the better by having foreigners in Bali, and plenty others negatively too. Corruption is rampant in our contry and the idea that is "foreigners fault" is very basic, the problem lays way deeper than that, there have been great conections, much education and learning from both worlds, the world is a big family and thos who want to evolve are doing so, indonesians and foreigners are taking the chance and ispiring eachother, Ive seen it with my own eyes, most who complain are thos who do nothing to improve themselves, the world is ours, all of us humans.

I stayed in academia, not a tenure track, for almost 20 years, then left. no risk but no gain as well. after sometime just a lame duck. new people with less experience will take over higher positions. with a heavier pay check. decided to leave.

I would say their real talent is finding a job that allows them to do this, their jobs are actually nothing out of this world.
It's also curious that they all come from first world countries or got the job in these. That really helps.

They usually work on a skillset through college/online courses. They apply for a job in their country, and then they travel after they land the remote job. Most of these jobs are in the marketing/computer development jobs.

i don't think that's true. to get that taxrate you need to be counted as not being a resident of your home country, and that home country will probably be unlikely to offer you work then. I have a remote job but I wouldn't be able to just officially "move" countries , and if you're not getting the bali taxrate then it's not worth living there@@dariusshojaei5036

It's really eye-opening to see the diverse fields these digital nomads come from. I'm curious, how do they navigate the time zone differences with their clients or teams back home?
Basically, you have to have your own business to become a digital nomad. The people interviewed are sacrificing long term careers for short term pleasure. The first girl making $30,000 Euro as a programmer is way underpaid. The second girl is basically managing other OnlyFans talents. The $50,000 per month is revenue she is collecting. She is probably taking a 5%-10% management fee. That's only $2,500-$5,000 per month.

Average cost of living in Bali around $500-$1,000 basically they can save at least 20K/yr and have a quality life
You wake up, you work their time zones, you go to sleep. I work with clients across different time zones it's not that complicated especially when you do dev work which doesn't require a ton of meetings and has project management platforms with the tasks for the day.
@@kosakata8632I guess my experiences are different. Everyone I personally know is making $300k - $400k US per year but are required to be local or in the US. These people in Bali is making a fraction of that but is able to work remotely.

It's crazy how there are people grinding out an hourly wage, working long hours, doing work that builds society, like construction or being an auto mechanic. Then someone just manages for only fans and makes 50k a month.
