What could be the reason if a Golf's mk1 handbrake is really stiff, the button doesn't press.

Hi PJ.. I have scirocco mk2 1.8 8v 1990, basically mechanically the same as Golf from same era. Just wondering if you ever experienced an issue im having. The problem appears randomly but it has been an annoying issue for a while now. Anywayz car makes loud ticking noise, clicking you could say, can happen randomly at times on and off, can become a faster tick with more acceleration applied and slower tick when less... Definitely from under the hood somewhere, but hard to diagnose these things while driving.. Dont seem to do it while idling, if it happens though its very subtle ... Any ideas, help would be appreciated.

Hi. Thanks for the video. I have an issue. Just bought a vw caddy and have a few problems. When pulling the handbrake, theres no "clicking" to keep handle above. Is the mechanism loose or is there something missing. I am a newbie to vw, so please bear with me.thanks

Hi unfortunately I don't have a video, and it's a bit difficult to explain, so I'm going to give you a link of a video on a VW beetle, which works on the same principle. It will help you understand the mechanism better th-cam.com/video/3umyBIwEhyE/w-d-xo.html
