I don’t usually comment on videos, but was reading some of the responses on here and just wanted to say you are doing such a good job. Confidence is a fragile thing and it’s easy for others to comment telling you what to do and not. Jam is such a talented horse and she’s a credit to you x
Its so easy for everyone watching to say, you need to to this or that. But I do think you need to remember how capable you are and to trust Jam, shes so brilliant. Let her do her thing
All these 'keyboard trainers ' are really giving the ick.Meg YOU know what to do with Jam,no one else can decide for you! Jam looks happy as larry and she is your horse ,no one elses!❤
Your videos make me realise more and more that feeling nervous and uncertain is so common and that so many people are pushing through and getting out there. ❤
Such a fun video! Thank you! And Thank you for being so candid about your rides, your thoughts, and your emotions. There is so much pressure in equine sports to achieve perfection, and part of that perfection seems to be never experiencing fear or anxiety or having a moment of doubt in yourself or your horse. It is really good for our sport for people at all levels to be able to be honest about their experiences - both good and bad. There are so many riders who think that fear means failure, it simply doesn't, it's just part of the process and we all have it and have it about all kinds of things. The two of you looked great on the course, hopefully this ride was a good confidence builder for you both!
I do have to giggle at all these 'TH-cam comment trainers' telling you what you 'need' to do etc... as if you haven't got enough experience/professionals in your life! Well done Meg and Jam, it's hard enough to feel not in the correct headspace and then having X amount of people dabbling in with their unwanted opinions... Keep cracking on!❤
Whenever you are in doubt, give Jammy her head and trust her to get you there! That amazing girl has got you!! Bravo for getting out there and doing it, sometimes that is the hardest thing to do 👏🏻❤ Brilliant job Meg!
Hey Meg! I know you work with premier performance and I’m really happy for you. Just from personal experience I found their calmers and calming cookies had certain ingredients which made my ponies incredibly spooky!! So weird- worked on my ex racer, but my highland and warmblood were spooking at every single jump I presented at. Just a thought but sure you’ve got it sorted xx
My OTTB got really spooky and weird from calming supplements too, if given for a long period of time. Common side effect that not enough people know about
@@JorlayRaven yes! The best “calmers” are largely magnesium which is used for its calming effects and a good muscle relaxant for the horse! Unfortunately I found the calming cookies are full of sugar- which made my lot hallucinate 🫠 took them off everything and stripped back to the basics and they’re all happy again! Think in this modern age we over think horse care, especially in supplements🙈
@@JorlayRavenwow so weird never knew this! why is it a side effect of calming supplements??? is it because they build up tolerance and then need more and more to stay calm?
It's likely because most callers have magnesium in them and if you overload a horse on magnesium it makes them more spooky! Same thing with tytrophen!!
Might also be that horses are prey animals that (in the wild) need to be alert. If there's something in their system trying to calm/slow them down they might get nervous. Just a theory, though, so don't take my word for this
Meg you've got this come to the day you'll smash it Jam is an incredible pony you are a fantastic duo trust your training and you and jam you will be amazing ❤
Hey meg! Brilliant as always, even with your "wobble". As someone else said, confidence is a fragile thing and we all get too far in to our heads sometimes. With respect, ignore the people telling you how to ride and what bit you need etc etc. You know your horses best, so therefore you've made the best decision for them. And we all see how much you love your ponies! You have got this huni, and im coming to badders to watch you perform epically as i KNOW you can do this xxx
Meg you are truly an inspiration to so many!!! As much as peoples comments are well meant, sometimes only you know how you/your horse/pony feels. Keep striving to better yourself always, but be kind to yourself too. Absolutely love your content!
You need to take you and that pony hunting. Take on what ever comes and work out the stride as you approach. No show jumping each fence and simply riding by the seat of your pants. Or some team chasing. Anything to get your head in the space. You know how to ride a combination, you know how to ride a fence, you know how to ride a horse. Your urge is making her spooky. You know all this.
Totally agree 👍 - and get rid of that Pelham; she’s responsive to your half halts - if she becomes so naughty that she’s running away with you - than stop and return to the basics until she can get back in harmony with you, the rider on her back. Love you and love your vlogs - thanks Meg ❤
To be honest I dont know if you know but at bicton she fell of her horse she is on in the video and they went over a jump horse fell and she got dragged so she’s nervous x
You are doing brilliantly! Keep at it and I'm sure you have a glorious season ahead of you. Please look at the lots of lovely comments and try to ignore the odd bits of unsolicited advice. You do what works for you and what you want to!
I always feel like the best time to have any kind of mistake happen, is at training. It shows you that it can happen and you can come back from it. And then you know exactly what to work on too + often you have a trainer with you that can help you through
Such a good job. You should be so proud of yourself! Your pony knows her job. This is all schooling and training. There's nothing wrong with pulling out of the combination on first attempt. You reset yourself and jumped it well. Sounds mad but after a nasty fall I had, but I didn't realise I was scared to fall off again until I fell off again. And nothing bad happened. I wonder if this is something that's in the back of your mind with Jam? My friend also had a massive dip in her confidence last year and ended up trying hypnotherapy and it's had a massive improvement on her. It's something that may be worth trying to give yourself a boost. You can do this. You've done it. Look how many people believe in you and support you! Keep flying high 💪
My Dear Meg, Believe in yourself Meg Dear, you are a truly lovely rider with a lot of talent. Keep a super positive attitude all the way around the course. Praise yourself, tell yourself how well you are doing praise Jammy too, it will give you both tons of uplifting confidence honestly it will and you will really enjoy your go around the course. These look like a brilliant opportunity, over time, to regain confidence, low pressure environment. Admittedly I do dogs in a R+ context (cookie pusher) underqualified & horses are very diffrent neurobiology context. Botentially with advice next season good opportunity to start working towards a snaffle, if nothing else a learning opportunity as you have better control, & choice in this actvity. No time pressure. In a dog I'd talk about over arousal (excitement and spookyness), bringing arousal down. Classical conditioning, specfically emotional. Jam is a horse, I wouldn't have a clue how to bring arousal down. Multiple factors why she was less strong. No dressage, showjumping prior?, slower pace? PTSD (type symptoms) can be really challenging. Your doing really well. I stopped riding after 2 bad experiences years apart and then finding out about my spine & consequent risk. Your really Brave. I'm still building myself back up from a severely reactive dog, I myself ended up with a classically conditioned emotional response to the sight of dogs (fear). Welfare wise & training I currently have a dog walker for my Assistance Dog prospect, he doesn't associate my fear with dogs. Done him a world of good) dogs are not horses. (PTSD was from homelessness)
The circle at the combo was nothing to be cross about! Maybe a good learning opp for you, but you yet again showed us a great safety option: when in doubt, slow down! You are an amazing rider and horsewoman, so please don't ever get down on yourself.
I try to think that theres no way I can get perfect strides to every fence so I need to learn to ride those close and long take-off as as well and try and be as balanced as possible too. Every pro competition you watch these amazing riders get the "wrong" stride all the time but they ride it so balanced its not that big of a deal. And I have always felt youve ridden the little wonky strides well! And as you said when you watch it back they are not that bad at all! Loved seeing you out on this cool veneue and I also feel like you beeing mad at the circle is a huge improvment!
As she explained, the next set of shoes she has will have stud holes in readiness for her first official event. If you're not competing, there is no point paying extra to had stud holes if you're not using them.

Meg. You and I have the same problem. Although mine is way way worse. I barely jump. I want to be a showjumper and I need help. 😭 I don’t have a super supportive friend to help me through the confidence knocks. Not even my mom and dad help that much. Please help. All of you. Any advice?❤ thank you all
Watching this for the first time after watching your badminton round! Insane the amount of confidence you and Jam got in such a short time to fly round the 100!
I notice that you almost never struggle on other people's horses. Have you considered sending Jam to a trainer to fill the holes you've left (no shade, she just only knows you) and give you more confidence in her ability? It could even advance her past your ability. Again I'm not saying you're not doing the right thing, just that a higher level professional trainer could take her further without you having to get out of your comfort zone.
Meg is plenty capable, and Jam is experienced, just because theyre having a moment doesnt mean you need someone else to take her, what ridiculous advice
@@GemmaSalvestro well it wasn't advice, it was a question. And I didn't say Meg was incapable but you do have to be willing to admit your limits when training horses. Every time I see your bridle with the throat lash so low on the cheek strap, I wonder what possessed the saddler to put it there. Can anyone tell me why? Lately I've seen a lot of horses loose their bridle without any obvious reason and am now wondering if that is the reason, because it is at the widest part defeating the purpose of a throat lash.
