Any true Star Wars fan knows Jedi Master Plo Koon pulled himself through space with the Force in the Malevolence Clone Wars episode, so why are people upset about Leia doing so?
It was a baaaaaaaaad scene, They could have done it better, I mean the whole movie tries to say that anybody not just jedi can use the force, and this was in those lines, but still... terrible executed and sort of unnecesary unless Leia have a really biiiig rol on episode IX.
It certainly was not my favorite scene, but it was nostalgia done imho right, because the movie certainly did not come with an nostalgia overload like TFA did.
The High Ground Key phrase there: "in my opinion". You have the right to have it, and to express it. Too many negative people seem to think their opinion represents the majority of the Star Wars fanbase. I'm not saying you are doing that, but still. People generally complain louder than they praise, not just with films but with everything. Just something to think about.
mickor Me too, I came out of the theatre and thought to myself something I thought I never would "that was better than Empire Strikes Back". I pity the people who somehow didn't enjoy it.
Funny thing, when Yoda destroyed the tree, he started laughing so hard and at the end, in the falcon, we basically see that Rey took the books with her :D That is why, from being anti jedi, Luke went "Im not the last jedi" near the end. He accepted that he wasn't the perfect teacher and that there will always be hope that someone else is better. Second time watching the movie, I understand it more and more. Actually happy that Snoke died, since I realized I dont want another "Return of the Jedi" throne room moment, with Snoke being betrayed at the end and Kylo sacrificing himself to save Rey. The movie has flaws, but deep down, its something new that Star Wars can and will embrace ;)
@@xj53pq7 I know I'm, like, very late, but I see Rey taking the books as a way of looking at past failures and how the Jedi were back then, taking it into account, and eventually learning from them rather than reading it like a parrot.
Yeah, it gave me a sense that, like Kylo did, you could fly within the shields and do damage but you just hit the shields from afar. I also like that they put a limit on the effective range of laser weaponry.
Spoiler: . . . . . . . . Here it goes: Do you think the students Kylo took after destroying Luke’s Jedi Temple became The Knights of Ren? I mean, where are The Knights of Ren?!
TheZandRproductions, I like that idea, but I think the Knights of Ren are separate... That said, I have no idea where they would be, and why they wouldn't be physically nearby Snoke or Kylo Ren. I do think there's a decent chance we'll see them as the antagonists in IX.
podracer35 I mean luke said there were a dozen other students and they're somehow missing but Snoke is surrounded by badass guards with amazing fighting abilities. Like where else would they be? Idk maybe that's just me but it felt like that to me
petr machacek he was so powerful creating lightning with lifting a finger. That's what luke should have been. Powerful. But no he didn't do anything and didn't even swing a lightsaber heck, he didn't even the leave the island
Arvin Djassemi ...If he wasn’t a force hologram (don’t know official name yet) then he wouldn’t have survived all the FIRE and what is left of the rebels wouldn’t have escaped But you obviously have to be very strong with the force to do what Luke did
Arvin Djassemi Luke can do everything anyone does in the movie. It doesn't have to be displayed for you to know that, what he did was enough phenomenal feats not too little not too much.
Anyone notice how the ending of The Last Jedi is kind of the opposite of the ending of The Empire Strikes Back? In TESB, we see the massive rebel fleet ready to take on the Empire, but in The Last Jedi, we see a small, ragtag group of rebels in one ship, running away from a much more powerful force than they are. Just a thought that I had in the theater.
I thought more in terms of Phantom Menace. Rose and the horses are like Anakin and the podrace; Snoke dying by being cut in mid-section is like Maul; the fake Luke is like Padme's "decoy," Probably right about ESB. Rian packed this thing with tons of callbacks to preqs and OT. People who say he doesn't know or like SW are just blind or hate him so much they can't SEE what he did.
This would make sense only if they make another prequel that deals with Snoke's story. Which they probably won't. You can't compare the two because they were completely differently presented in the overall franchise and in the movie marketing
ProcC Well, it doesn't really matter what we know about him now, since he amounted to nothing. Even though Palpatine as a character is purely a plot device for Vaders redemption, he played into the ending. Snoke is a jobber, I don't care about him now.
Best moments: Poe vs cannons Kamikazi Holdo Everything in Snoke's throne room A final lesson from Yoda R2-D2 showing Leia's message to Luke (also the extremely fun easter egg that R2-D2 swears ) Luke accidentally creates Kylo Ren "Shoot that man with everything we have" Long live the supreme leader Cranky old man Luke Brother-Sister reunion (in an ironical way the fact that Carrie Fisher is dead makes the meaning of the scene 1000 times better) All the Rey-Ben scenes And something that has to do with the atmosphere in the theater I was in, the moment that Luke is ready to confort the First Order while the resistance looks at him with awe, brought cheers and goosebumps to every one at the cinema!
Glad to see someone who doesn't just jump on a bandwagon. The people claiming this is clearly the worst or clearly the best SW movie could need some sand on their high ground to bring them back down to earth.
Very Serious I think a lot of people who are called jumping on the bandwagon feel like this. Torn or simply disappointed. Not all of us call it the worst movie.
The Next movie will have to be set way into the future.. no way they'd spend the last movie in the trilogy rebuilding the resistance the entire time. Also, they'll probably say Leia passed away of old age. I'm gonna say it takes place 5-10 years into the future. Maybe more. QUESTION: Do you agree?? Edit: I feel sorry for JJ Abrams. He's got one hell of a job to do to help wrap this thing up. I for one loved the movie, but to really understand it I feel people will need to watch it multiple times. It's a long movie and there's a hell of a lot in it.
i like the force awakens but each time i re-watch it i find more problems overall a good movie. yeah i feel like it's necessary to be set in the future.
@@lachiecarpenterr Well, my initial high has come down of course, and it's been about a year since I re-watched TLJ. I still like it overall and the parts I didn't care for I still don't. So, no not much really.
I didn't like how they handled hux. sure the relationship between him and kylo was kinda how to expect it but WHY make him such a joke of an character? He had no moment to shine and only was there to provide some laughs because he's being fooled or thrown around the room. Also phasma ... again ... I expected her to become interesting and in return motivate me to read her backstory and all but she's really just a soldier in some shiny armor that does nothing in the movies. Aside from that I really enjoyed the movie ... way more than TFA to be sure. It didn't feel like another fanservice attempt and instead of feeding all those clickbait speculation guys it was bold enough to go in places where no one expected. They should have killed leia on crait though. She was an awesome addition to the cast in THIS movie (her appearance in TFA wasn't great at all imo) but letting her life through the end only makes her future story complicated.
My biggest problem was ackbar. They were basically like "Leia was gravely injured. Oh yeah also admiral ackbar died." What I think would've been cool was if we saw the tie fighters shoot, then we see ackbars eyes and he goes "for the rebellion, for the resistance" or something
Louis Bakewell Its just that Ackbar has been a pivotal character in the Star Wars saga. He contributed to a lot in the galaxy. The clone wars, the rebellion, Jakku, the resistance... It's just felt so unsatisfying and disrespectful for the character who has contributed so much to simply die by exposure to space. I would have much preferred him to be the one who slammed the Raddus into the Supremacy. That would have been a fitting send off to the character. But no. All he got was simply to float off into the void of space lifeless and gets nothing but a mention in a casualty report.
I honestly don't think Phasma is dead. Expanded material had made it clear she is a survivor, and I don't think we've seen the last of her. I won't believe it until we get confirmation.
Chagan Creates yeah, I already said I will only accept when I see her dead body! Her armor holds laser like it's nerf darts, she can hold enough heat. And just think how badass would it be she be back with the exposed part of her face damaged by the explosion, mad for revenge on Finn. I just don't want such great character and actress be thrown away like that.
She’s dead as shit in my opinion. No matter how much we want her to have survived, the suspension of disbelief would have been *ahem* cut in half if she came back after such a certain death.
I dont "want" her to be dead, as the character has so much potential.... but surviving star killer and then this? you can only go out like a punk so many times before it becomes a running joke... :/ i think its best they make her dead after this one. they should have not done that scene that way though. she should have atleast ran off to a ship to escape or something. like "crap, i am screwed. time to get the hell out of dodge"
I have my complaints about the movie - plot points, humour, badly executed scenes. But when Luke said to Kylo, strike me down and i shall be with you forever. I thought that was a perfect humourous / taunting comment haha
I think this movie will grow on the fanbase over the years. For now it didn't fit the projected expectations of most. We need to see the third part of this trilogy before we give a final judgement.
Many people in comment sections say they didn't like it but i disagree. This is one of the best movies to me. The only thing is that you should just accept certain things that come to you. To me its better than The Force Awakens but they are very different movies. Also if you think something is gonna happen (many internet theories), think again, you are in for some surprises.
I really liked it. I liked the way they portrayed the characters. Characterdevelopment was interesting within the story told. I liked the Luke storyline. Poe was cool. Finns story was ok, but felt more like a TV episode, it disrupted the flow. A few scenes were corny and the humor didn't work all the time for me, but it didn't hamper my enjoyment. I need to see the movie a few more times.
I loved what they did with Luke. It makes complete sense for him to be like this. I mean his own nephew basically becomes another Darth Vader under his tutelage. He has to feel somewhat responsible. I liked how he felt very different from previous trainees like Obi Wan and Yoda.
Did really not like Leia floating in space thing. Also, Hux reaching for something after he sees Snoke dead looking like he is going to shoot Kylo. Thoughts?
It's obvious Hux despises Kylo, the guy is constantly making death threats towards him, so he decided he would end the problem while he had the chance.
Couple of questions, so SPOILERS: - - - - With Snoke dead and not the powerful force we thought he was, what do you think the mysterious thing Thrawn was warning of in the Unknown Regions? We thought it was Snoke, but now I'm not sure. Do you think "DJ" will appear in Episode IX? I was sure they'd reveal his name and it would have some meaning to Star Wars fans, but when they didn't and he did leave Fin and Rose to die I assumed we'd see him again. And with Kylo now Supreme Leader, do you think we'll finally see the Knights of Ren in Episode IX? And just one other thing, I was disappointed we didn't see Force Ghost Obi-Wan or Anakin, but I enjoyed Yoda's scene with Luke. It reminded me of their squabbling in ESB.
Snoke may not be important going forward in the story the sequel trilogy is telling (Rey and Kylo Ren's story), and he was only used as a tool to push Kylo's story forward, but he could still be the mysterious power in the Unknown Regions. Snoke was incredibly powerful in the force (and apparently had "unlimited resources"?) but he met his demise by underestimating Kylo Ren. As I said, these three movies are Rey's and Kylo's story, but in Star Wars we could and almost definitely will get more stories about Snoke in the books, comics, maybe TV shows. He's not completely written off, at least for us, the kind of people who enjoy TH-cam channels like this one, just because he died in The Last Jedi.
Batman Jr. Not that I was spoilt or anything but just a friendly heads up,you might want to consider leaving some blank spaces after warning about the spoiler, for good measure
I loved that scene where an officer told Hux that Snoke wants to speak to him, then Hux says he'll speak to Snoke in his chambers. NOPE, Snoke's hologram appears and he uses the force to move Hux around, even wiping the ground with him.
Lucas Menduni Kids can now use the force without knowing that seems weird like Anakin didn't use the force so easily, yet this kid used it soo easily.. seems unrealistic
SPOILERS AHEAD Doesn't Snoke pretty much explain why she is so strong in the force? When he is having his talk with Rey he mentions that as Kylo grew strong with the Dark Side, the Light would rise up to meet it. And I think this is a better explanation than her parents being secret jedis or something like that, specially with the whole "balance" theme the movie has going on.
Nah, we see them in JJs next one. Johnson was clearly not a fan of jj binks, so he left JJ to clear up his own mess und did touch basically nothing from TFA. Good for me, I could not stand TFA. ^_^
I don't think phasma is dead. (Edit): I think she will probably come back with a wicked face burn. Based on her climbing abilities and her armor. I think she'll probably kill Hux for Kylo
Gage Morrison that would be so badass, I really believe she survived since her armor could protect her, just leave the burn on the exposed part of the face, if she kills Hux I would just love her even more
The "low speed chase" part of the movie with the Raddus. Well, that was a cool idea that...was wasted. So many cool things they could have done with the case instead of watching shots hit shields for 2 hours. What could have been a suspenseful chase with all sorts of heroic and desperate actions was...well, nothing. I agree--Canto Bight was a complete waste. Phasma...nothing. Absolutely meaningless.
KAM1138a if you break the movie down there were lots of good ideas. Enough for two seasons of a show like Rebels. Put into one movie it's a huge mess. And some of them were just badly executed, like the scene between Luke and Yoda.
It was meh. Its plot line did nothing to develop characters that seemed so important to they story only just to kill them off. This is a Disney movie not a star wars movie.
I really liked the over-arching theme of: Failure. Lea, Luke and Hon failed Kylo, Snoke failed to control Kylo, Luke failed the Jedi, The Resistance AND the First Order both failed the war in different ways, and most of all Rey's parents failed her.
Do you think that the films are sliding a little too much into bathos? I adore last jedi but I'm worried, especially knowing abrams is coming back, that they won't be able to take themselves sufficiently seriously in episode 9. I think this ties into another issue i had that doesn't ruin the films but does stick out. They're filming them in a very modern way, like action movies. Contrast that with the originals and the prequels, which both had excellent filmography because they were filmed like epics. I find it a little disappointing that the crew behind the films isn't treating them quite so mythically with the language of cinema anymore, and i very much think that that's down to disney - there are a lot of parallels to marvel movies in how they're shot. I think this is almost definitely due to the much more restrictive schedule they're forcing on themselves. If they'd had a little longer, they could've reshot or edited in some simple fixes, like phasma escaping (maybe with a grappling hook? I just like grappling hooks) or mentioning a spy onboard the radis which would perfectly explain why they didn't just tell poe the plan.
Trilbydood YES. I love the epic style and truly miss it. I told my husband when we walked out that TLJ was very much a 2017 movie. I love an action movie as much as the next person, but what I've always loved about Star Wars are the archetypes and mythic nature of it. That is all still there, but it's getting awfully hard to find it because it's buried under so. much. random. stuff. Cheap laughs, unnecessary subplots, etc. Leave something for the books, comics, etc., people; you don't have to cram EVERYTHING into the movie itself.
The movie was released yesterday so I'm not expecting people to go so far in their retrospectives of the film, but it really is annoying to see people criticize Rian Johnson for actually doing surprising and unexpected things with the characters and plot. The fanbase on the Internet was all so "We don't want deja vu like TFA", but when they are met with unfamiliar elements, they feel uneasy and start saying they dislike the movie because to THEM "it doesn't feel like Star Wars". Come on now. I loved the movie, it has it's flaws, all movies do, but I believe Rian Johnson and all the other people involved did marvellous work and opened new paths for Star Wars. I agree with most of the points Alex made about the lows of the movie though.
I agree with you!! The ones who are complaining about are probably the ones who didn't like TFA because it was so much like Episode 4. I loved TFA!! I thought this move was awesome in that I saw none of it coming. All my preconceived notions were completely wrong...and that was a good thing. The fans wanted something different and that is what they got!
Nobody is complaining that he's doing new things, in fact my biggest problem is this movie completely shuts down all the cool new things this trilogy was suppose to be about. Snoke was suppose to be a cool new villain unlike anything we've seen before and without us learning anything about him or why he's so strong with the force he's dead. Same thing with Phasma she has a 20 second fight with Finn and does with about 5 minutes of screen time in both movies.
I won't argue with you about Phasma. They did royally screw her up. In fact, she really served no purpose for the movies. As far as Snoke goes, I was disappointed that he was killed off so quickly and without any back story, who he is, why he is evil, etc. With that said, I don't think we have seen the last of Snoke. I can't imagine they would kill a powerful character off just like that. I'm wondering if we will see him in Episode 9 as some type of evil force ghost or maybe he tries to take over Kylo Ren kind of like Exar Kun tried to do to Luke in the Legends stuff. I'm willing to wait it out. But if they don't do anything with Snoke in Episode 9 then he was a waste too.
I do agree that Snoke's early death was disappointing, but the scene overall was perfection like Alex said. I don't believe it's the last of him we've seen though. Only time will tell, but to me killing a being so powerful in the dark side as Snoke is not as easy as cutting his physical body in half. I just wonder if JJ is willing to go into the weirdness of the force as much as Rian did here.
i still dont agree with how they wrote luke skywalker though. i feel like he wouldn't fall that low. i mean, he can see light and goodness in darth vader, and turn him on in front of the emperor effectively redeeming himself after tens of years in the dark side, but then he was afraid of the dark side in ben and considered to strike him down already? when he was still conflicted? i know it was a split second and its complicated and everything and it ended up creating kylo ren, but based on his experience, i thought he would be able to at least try to convince ben to resist. they can still make him fail from that, but it's not so out of his character from ROTJ. some people will like it though, it's unexpected thing from a character we know about so long and they're taking risk with it. but i kind of understand why Mark Hamill said he dont really like how they handle luke and he fundamentally disagree with everything in the script.
"For a split second" is what made the movie makes sense. The book Jedi Vs Sith : The Essential Guide to the force, is a book that in the dark side chapter explains that no Jedi master is above making mistakes, and that darkness is within everyone, no one is beyond that.
it is makes sense. that's what actually made the whole knights of ren and ben solo becomes what he is now. it's just feels so out of luke skywalker we all know about from ROTJ. that's for me though. it could be good for some people because maybe for them it made luke not a one dimensional pure good character and has flaws within him. he was never perfect from the start, he disregard his training to save his friend in episode 5, resulting in his loss of his hand. he also almost killed darth vader out of rage in his final battle in episode 6. the thing is, they wrote it like he isn't learning from that. he made same mistake years later, that's the bit that i don't eally agree. but again, that's just me.
I just hate all of the negativity. You can hate the movie or love it, both are perfectly fine. But when everybody starts calling others "wrong" and an insult war starts it just really kills the vibe.
I find interesting your take on Luke. For me it was disappointing, it is said that he went in the galaxy learning more about the force. But all it reflects is that he learned more about the Jedi council of the Republic and their failings, specially with regards to Anakin. With all the supposed learning he did, I would have expected him to have learned the true way and will of the force. More like the Bendu showed he understands
I like your point about 'the galactic reset button' problem, but I have a hard time getting to grips with that fact that the destruction of the New Republic senate single handedly allows the First Order to reign supreme; to clumsily attempt a real world analogy it would be like North Korea taking over if the UN were destroyed. I can see how some systems would have defected, others would have looked out for themselves, but surely some would have got together and formed a new interim government, and put forward whatever defences and industrial might they had for the Resistance? I can't say for sure but having a little bit of knowledge of the lay of the land would be helpful in rationalising this, something which the films have always been pretty bad at; in a two and a half hour film I would not have begrudged a five minute briefing going over just what forces were in play on both sides, who their allies might have been and where all the main players roughly are. I mean, even Tolkein used maps and numbers when appropriate. I'm certain the expanded universe will come to the rescue and fill in some more of the gaps, but unfortunately as we have seen the film makers pay little attention to anything which aren't in the films, admittedly for somewhat good reason, alas it does make the books and comics seem less important by comparison
North Korea taking over the UN is a horrible example. It would be closer to if Russia in it's prime took out the UN during the Cold War. That would have definitely caused them to pretty much reign supreme as the top world power. The first Order were not like North Korea... They are much more powerful in their universe than North Korea will ever be in our world.
I think thats one good thing that the prequels did, adding complexity and logic to the political context, which gave a direction to the EU novels. Here everything is so vague, during the movie i had the impression that probably no one in the galaxy gave a shit about the First Order and the Resistance going for a little fist fight, while everyone else was probably at a cocktail party on Coruscant.
@iqpok Yeah Russia is a better analogy - but even so I think the point is still valid. Even without the UN Council the member states all have their own independent governments which would continue to exist and would have stood against the USSR. But maybe in the Star Wars universe the individual Republic worlds are much weaker than I imagine them to be - I just hope the galactic political landscape is expanded on somewhere along the line
Yeh but starkiller base destroyed more than just the senate. It's like North Korea somehow manages to wipe out america and a couple other random countries and everyone else has no military at all. Would you obey?
We know it took out the Hosnian system - a system we don't know much about expect that it was the seat of the senate at the time - and the Republic fleet - which admittedly didn't consist of much following the Republic's disarmament agreement. I haven't personally read Bloodline or any of the material covering this time period so my knowledge is a little patchy, but I would have thought there were still hundreds of republic systems out there, but maybe the First Order has more ships than I imagine. I may be reading too much into the opening crawl, especially as TLJ starts right after TFA ends; if Ep IX starts months or years after this perhaps the republic will have mustered together somewhat
Do you think they are setting something up for Poe and Rey? I say this because I noticed that when they meet, Poe says "I know", the same thing Han said to Leia in Empire.
Maybe? If the story can be questioned and you have to pull things that take very little time to explain if it was that in the movie it was poorly written. No normal person can just assume that at all when nothing was there or hinted. Why... why are people having to fill in such plot wholes to make the movie seem better?
Justifying it is easier. Much more likely: They were burning time to confuse the audience. Revenge of the Sith I still think is fantastic..BUT...there are parts that dont make a lot of sense and scenes that should have been re-done/cut
@@alexiaaxel You can't do that. IF she thought Poe was a mole how could she tell him. Notice Leia was knocked out; Holdo can't talk to her. In terms of plot, it makes sense but it is too contrived.
Alex Vandensen the movie literally shows U that poe doesn’t take orders well...... because of his actions in the opening holdo obviously didn’t trust him....
Yeah that was enough for me to let it pass. Also why would Holdo tell Poe the plan when he had demonstrated at the beginning of the film that he can't follow a plan and has to try and take things into his own hands, leading to multiple deaths in the Resistance? The fact that he stages a mutiny, regardless of whether or not he's privy to information from way higher in the chain of command, kind of proves Holdo right. Really have never understood anyone's issue with this.
I hope you read this comment. Ok, so I also hope this comment makes sense, but I wanted to cover two things. First, the Poe and Holdo thing. Anyone that's been in the Military or worked in a job where you have management that doesn't share their plans will understand this. Often leadership will not discuss plans with subordinates because of the chain of command. Holdo struck me as that type. Leia and Poe seemed to have a more casual relationship. There's been many times in my professional career where I often questioned leadership about what they was doing, only to later realize they was either right, or they had a different direction than what I had anticipated. I found myself usually going "Huh...I guess that makes sense now." The second thing I wanted to cover was the same thing I just pointed out about Holdo, in a way, is the same thing Disney is doing with Star Wars and the fans are a hot headed Poe. We may not fully understand the big picture yet, but I believe that when it is done, we will look back and say "Oh, I get it now" Some will get on board, some will not. Each generation that contributes to this process is leaving their mark along the way and the story is evolving. I'm a fan of the originals, but I get it. I'll continuing watching this journey as long as I can.
As much as I like your explanation and will admit I’m not one to understand the ranks of how things work, but that seems really complicated for a movie. And a good movie would hint at that ie. maybe someone she does trust has a conversation with her and she explains that and how the chain of command works. I actually don’t think very many people would come up to that conclusion. Also it doesn’t happen in starwars like that or in the movies that I know of. I feel we have to pull so much from the air and though the theme constantly was about giving us the total opposite like throwing the lightsaber, killing snoke, telling us let the past die, I find it hard to believe things like ‘ the next movie will reveal her parents! You’ll see Kylo was manipulative on purpose!’ I am trying to make a point this movie is constantly putting out the originals and force awakens and we have to fill in the blanks so much to make the movie has so much sense I can’t give credit to possibilities of other explanations.
Star Wars Explained, I have a question, Spoiler Warning . . . . . . . Why haven't the rebels in star war used their ships like hyperspace kamikaze torpedos before now? There has been tons of times where the rebels could have sacrificed one of their moncala cruisers or large transport ships in exchange for the amount of damage the Raddus did. I mean it wipes out the whole fleet of the first order, the supremacy included. Taking out the executor in return of the jedi could have been a prime example of when the rebels could have just done this. Just evac everyone but one droid and has it cut it's way through a chuck of the imperial fleet. Now I got to try to Justified to my tabletop group why they can't just start turning all their cheap larger ships into remote hyperspace torpedo bombs. I think that this part in the new movie, kind of opens up some holes throughout both the Clone and galactic civil War. What do you think?
It was just kinda erking me the whole time after I saw because I had to try and explain to my star wars table top game why it isn't a good tactic because the rebels would have been doing this the whole time. Then this happens in the new movie and I am like well crap how am I going to explain this one.
Nooo dont target the executor...target the death star...I was wondering, what if the home one went kamikaze to the death star in light speed...interesting dont you think?
Projectnsight You may be right! The death star may be to big for complete destruction but this defenetly seems like it would be an option given its destructive capability.
I dont think Luke has died as such. I almost feel like he has given into the force and its power like he has learnt to do in the comics. He has joined it, not conquered it. I feel like if he can give into the force he will find newfound strength. Maybe he will be able to bend the ways the force can manifest or by giving in he can use his new power to torment Ben Solo. Maybe he could lightning things like Yoda could. Or maybe he could bend the will of the force to make it more bias to the light. They would no longer need balance. The Jedi could live as the survivors thanks to Luke. Anyway I started to write too much down so I'll end this here.
Feel sorry for J.J Abrams, he made a movie with Luke just in the last scene hyping it up then Rian kills him off so Abrams won't get to do anything with more with Luke
I loved that Snoke was killed. The Emperor is a cool villain because George never wanted to make him a super complex and interesting villain. He is just pure evil! But Snoke is a copy. He is not fun or simply evil. He is simply boring. Saying that he is Darth Plagueis or a god of Mortis would not make him less similar to Palpatine. Snoke is a copy, and a backstory would not change that. So killing his was the smartest decision because we would have another Return of the Jedi, but with a boring. But TRoS came and...
That's on the people who wasted their time thinking for a split second that that sort of thing is important to writing a script or filming a movie. Rian Johnson didn't need to answer any of those stupid theories (eg. Snoke is Mace Windu, who is Finn's father because; Snoke is the Sith Inquisitor for some reason; Snoke is the old lady librarian from Attack of the Clones) and I'm so glad he didn't.
DUDE! Thank you! I can't tell you how much I agree with almost everything you said. The Phasma thing for me, after reading the book and comics as well was thoroughly disappointing. I loved the set up for her so much and it ended up falling so flat... again.. Very glad you addressed it.
Michael Mulherin yeaah, i'm really disappointed too, it's a waste of character and actress I still think her armor may be strong enough for her to survive and she comes back with part of her face burned, I just don't want another Boba Fett.
*Yes. Rey is sent by the force to match the darkness that Luke felt in Ben Solo.* Rey’s original name was Kira. In Sanskrit, the name Kiran means “beam of light”. Also Rey/ray, ray of light, obviously. Then we have Snoke saying "darkness rises and light to meet it". Another curious sign of this, that Rey is in fact sent by the force, can be found in her vision from TFA. As she starts to run in the forest on Starkiller Base the branches behind her are arranged so that they form two wings emerging from her back - angel wings. “Angel: a spiritual being believed to act as an attendant of God”. God = The force :)
Alex Lkw It's just speculation! I think the info about the name Kira was in a documentary for TFA. And the thing about the angel wings I heard from someone else
I think there's still more to snoke we don't know. It doesn't make sense for them to not release any backstory whatsoever and have him be a pretty useless character.
The destruction of the supremacy... It was beautiful of course, but kind of overpowered, couldn't one kamikaze have destroyed a great part of the empire's fleet??
MineWarz That is something I have been thinking about too. Why didn't they do that in the Battle of Yavin 4, Hoth, or Endor? One cruiser with one pilot is worth saving entire fleets
MineWarz That was no small ship. The Rhaddus was a Mon Calamari cruiser. That’s a few hundred thousand tons traveling at light speed. Talk about an effective weapon. Just the plasma wave from colliding should have leveled the entire first order fleet.
Gotta say, I was pretty hyped, but now I’m quite sad. Not saying the film is bad, on the contrary the film is good. However it is underwhelming - seriously underwhelming. It’s tragic that so many opportunities were missed and in such tremendous fashion. Rian Johnson made so many good decisions yet the problem is, there are some incredible rescissions he could have picked. But yunno - better than the Phantom Menace.
imo they should've removed Finn and Roses storyline and added more training between Luke and Rey as well as more time with Luke and Force Ghosts and the books to talk about the force and have Luke kind of come around more for that ending sequence. Some other things like phasma and a couple jokes could've been handled better. Other than that though I loved this movie and teared up when Luke passed, such a touching moment between him and Leia.. wow that hit me hard. Also to handle Phasma better they should've sent her to track down Finn and rose on Cantonica. She could've been pushed out of the story but not died after Finn catches her off guard and she could've relayed the message that they've found a hacker and that's how they're captured on the supremacy because they knew they were coming. Also DJ as a character didn't work for me.. I wish he had more of a story and didn't have a stutter.. also should've casted younger than BDT
The suicide commander didn't want Po or anyone knowing that she planned to die in the evac so that people wouldn't cause a scene about it - said lea to Poe. She shouldn't have waited so long to do the lightspeed thing since she was going to die anyways. Snoke dying was irritating after all the hype, not even a little backstory. It seemed like Rian and Abrams had different plans for this new trilogy and didn't talk about it.
Brendan only difference is most of the time when we get stories like that its after the film as just some extra reading to flesh them out the phasma book was just to build hype for her role in the movie because of what happened in TFA but as you know she did nothing is this and she died to so why hype her up CASH GRAB
We are all basically Luke in this movie. The old fools still holding on to the old Star Wars religion. And Yoda/Disney just blew it up and laughed. Then they killed us. They minimized Rey as well.
I know this is a very minor detail, but I wanted to point out that I was surprised by the amount of cussing there was in this movie. You'd hear a couple Damn's or Hell or whatever, but this actually went into a bit more than ever actually. Great review spot on with my thoughts exactly and you even made me rethink a few things! Excellent review man. With Phasma, You even pointed out that she always finds a way to survive, shes a survivor.
Also I wanted to point out (Spoiler Alert) How Rey is a nobody and then the kid at the end who had the force. Once I saw that I immediately referred to Rebels and something else i cant remember, but it talked about how the force works in strange ways and that someone will always have it to be the balance. So someone will always be force sensitive whether they are somebody or a nobody to provide that balance in the force. So It made me think of Kanan and Ezra. Ezra is practically a nobody and he is able to use the force. Maybe Im thinking too much, what do you think?
I thought Snokes Death was horrible, hes to powerful not to read Kylos brain about light saber to the stomach. Daiseys Jedi training was very WEAK compared to yoda teaching Luke. I liked the Movie But there was some not so good Situations.
222light Atoms Darth Sidious didn't read Vaders mind when he betrayed him. It's the dark side blinding you. Most sith lords die because their apprentices overthrow them.
Here Are All The Deaths In Star Wars The Last Jedi: Paige Tico - Died when her bomber crashes into Canady's exploding dreadnought Captain Canady - Died in the destruction of an imperial dreadnought Admiral Ackbar, Admiral Statura, Doctor Kalonia, Major Brance, and Major Ematt - Died when the bridge of a resistance cruiser blew up Supreme Leader Snoke - Died when Kylo Ren ignited a lightsaber into his stomach using the force Vice Admiral Holdo - Sacrificed herself to destroy part of Snoke's flagship by driving a resistance cruiser into hyperspace Captain Phasma - Fell into a ball of fire after the floor under her collapsed Luke Skywalker - Died from exhaustion
Those aren't all of the deaths... Basically the entire resistance was wiped out. And probably a lot of First Order members died too, the Supremacy was sliced in half, probably a lot of deaths there...
Eh from what I've read it's "Love it or hate it" and for me it's clearly the later... the people i talked about the movie also had been rather underwhelmed... Spoiler: The "heroic Sacrfice of the last bomber"... because Arvel Crynyd destroying the Executor wasn't enough... Killing of the "Old Guard"... Lukes Character Assassination
undertakernumberone1 How is it a character assassination? It shows that he is human. He had a moment of weakness where he gave in to his impulse but immediately regretted it. Very similar to how he gave into his anger and was about to kill Vader in ROTJ but decided against it.
If Luke was a perfect goody two-shoes with zero character flaws he'd be boring and not worth putting in the film. He was always the most bland main character in the OT but even then he was impulsive and flirted with the dark side quite a number of times before realizing it was a mistake and remaining good, exactly like in this film. But this film he's made into the most interesting he's ever been as a character and then it ends beautifully. If you really think a 2 second impulsive dark side mistake is a character assassination for Luke, then I suggest you go watch the OT for the first time and watch the same things happen.
I think I walked away from the movie with the exact same takes as yourself, which makes me want to watch all of your stuff now; you're definitely the kind of Star Wars fan I'd be interested in following and listening to. I think my metric for Star Wars content creators now is basically whether or not they liked The Last Jedi. XD
I think the reason so many Star Wars fans are disappointed about TLJ (and they do this a lot) is because they set their expectations too high. Fans create theories and then someone else builds off said theory and so on to the point no matter what Lucasfilm does they will be disappointed. Now don't get me wrong, I disagree with Snoke dying but as far as rey's parents go honestly couldn't care less. "Let the past die." Luke is gone. Han is gone. People are hoping to see their favorite characters return and be better than ever. But the sequel trilogy isn't about Luke or Leia. It's about Rey, FInn. Poe, Ben. Now I do agree with the complaint of many plot holes left. We'll for sure get novels or comics to answer those, but that shouldn't be an excuse to leave plot holes. The EU is meant to expand on the stories we already love not fix them
I don't think fans can be blamed for poor pacing, whole wasted and boring story arcs (Finn and Rose much) and inappropriately placed humour breaking the tension of important scenes (just for a laugh).
MJ Woodroff I agree about that Canto Byte sequence, honestly a waste of time, completely unnecessary. The pacing at the beginning is off too, and the Holdo plan bullshit is real, but ultimately, I’ll remember the last half of the movie (and Kylo and Rey) more than the first half
I see your point about that story arc and I agree. That part felt forced and it gave off the impression that they were using it for character development but it didn't really work. I think they put that arc simply bc "it's a new starwars movie so we need new aliens and planet"
I do think the Canto Bight part of the movie was there to teach Finn a few things. Finn needed to know what the First Order had done to other planets and how people are profiting off the war by selling to both sides. He needed to see that under all the glitz and glamour were beings who didn't care who won the war so long as they made huge money off it.
Yo dude I think snoke is alive. Right before he died he talked about how he's manipulating kylo, I think he wanted kylo to "kill him" cuz it's not the real him. And at the end Kylo and Rey's minds were still linked so I think snoke is doing that and he's alive
Alex Kay Spoilers for those who haven't seen it!! I hope so. I didn't expect him to "die" so fast. Hope he comes back in one form or another. But if he doesn't then whateves.
bookgirl810s if he reappeared to lead the first order is it ridiculous to think he'll regenerate for 9, maybe even faster considering the amount of force power throughout the Galaxy is increasing in general in the general population (pure speculation of course)
SPOILERS I feel like they missed out on an opportunity to write out Leia if they could had reworked it so that Luke would ask her to join him power his projection, followed by a moment where the Skywalker twins - connected but separate - fade away, strengthening the point that the future belongs to the new generation. Now they're going to have to write out Leia in an unconvincing way in the next movie. Anyway, Leia flying in space was incredibly dumb and I was on the verge of walking out of the cinema the second she got sucked out into space.
Do you think Ep. VIII's interpretation of balance contradicts that of all the previous films? It always seemed to me that balance in the force meant no more Jedi or Sith. After all, it took Anakin eradicating both Jedi and finally Sith to fulfill his role as The Chosen One. Thoughts?
Didn't like the first half of the movie but I loved the last half! I realised a plot hole on my second watch through, at no point does Poe tell Finn about the evacuation order Holdo made... so there's no way DJ could have told the First Order about it. It really doesn't bother me too much, it seems like they just cut out a short scene where they find out but still. I think the edit of this movie was it's weakest point, there's a lot of unnecessary stuff left in (I didn't like the stuff with the kids all too much), and some important stuff left out (Luke's full reaction to Han's death). It actually, it felt like there was a lot of Ach-to cut out. I think the movie could have been streamlined, hopefully there's a director's cut as Johnson was an editor before he made his first film Brick. Would you like to see a director's cut or fan edit? If so, what would you want added or taken out?
Luke Actually Poe does tell Finn if my memory is correct. Because Poe tells Finn about the evacuation and Finn states how close they are and that they just need a little more time. Which is why Poe initiates the coup. Just fyi. I totally agree about seeing a director’s cut though, and I really wish we had seen more of Luke’s reaction to Han’s death.
Makes no sense. Why would they not control their own production? Why would there be arms dealers involved? Why go through a middle man when you can just take over the factories?
she used the force, her dad was the most powerful being in Star wars, and her twin brother was the chosen one, she should be powerful too, its in her blood.
khiatus kjheru' and she's had no training in it. Im guessing they are going to create a book explaining her force powers. But it seemed kinda ridiculous that out of no where she could propel through the vacuum out of nowhere.
Any true Star Wars fan knows Jedi Master Plo Koon pulled himself through space with the Force in the Malevolence Clone Wars episode, so why are people upset about Leia doing so?
I’m surprised you didn’t mention the Leia scene with her out in space
kinda reminds me of this Rebels scene honestly

I didn't like that scene
Any true Star Wars fan knows Jedi Master Plo Koon pulled himself through space with the Force in the Malevolence Clone Wars episode, so why are people upset about Leia doing so?
It was a baaaaaaaaad scene, They could have done it better, I mean the whole movie tries to say that anybody not just jedi can use the force, and this was in those lines, but still... terrible executed and sort of unnecesary unless Leia have a really biiiig rol on episode IX.
Nathan 'Dethron' mostly because it looked bad tbh
The only thing, I think Rian should have changed:
Luke should have survived, just because Carry Fisher is dead now...
Yeah but the movie was done shooting and after that carry died...
Also, force ghost Luke ??
_like _sam But they could have cut the scene where Luke disappeared away. And the scene where Rey and Leia talk about his "death"
Daniel Davis Yoda manifested himself in TLJ too. If you noticed Luke actually felt pain after Yoda hits him. That means Luke can too, I think.
Leo Joël Schaa I think luke is still going to be in episode 9 as a force ghost
My favorite scene was when they played the message of Leia from episode 4. It was so nostalgic.
It certainly was not my favorite scene, but it was nostalgia done imho right, because the movie certainly did not come with an nostalgia overload like TFA did.
I cried at that part!
I was about to
It was a cheap move...😉
oh I member
People are so divided with this movie lmao
when are they not with Star Wars.... I loved it
with good reason, if you watch the first hour alone, in my opinion, it is the worst part of star wars ever.
Anyway wheres my man Ackbars recognition?
mickor Me too, I came out of the theatre and thought to myself something I thought I never would "that was better than Empire Strikes Back". I pity the people who somehow didn't enjoy it.

Can't wait for Snoke to come back but with robot spider legs in episode 9
BattleUp Saber or as a super duper force ghost!!
BattleUp Saber lol
Jokes on you, it was multiple snokes in a pickle jar!
Funny thing, when Yoda destroyed the tree, he started laughing so hard and at the end, in the falcon, we basically see that Rey took the books with her :D
That is why, from being anti jedi, Luke went "Im not the last jedi" near the end.
It interesting that she took the books, although i think it kinda kills the power of the moment when yoda is supposed to destroy them.
Pance Mancev YES! Totally agree!!! Wow finally someone who understands the film
Tyler Clark...I think Yoda knew she took them which made him striking the tree down funny
@@xj53pq7 I know I'm, like, very late, but I see Rey taking the books as a way of looking at past failures and how the Jedi were back then, taking it into account, and eventually learning from them rather than reading it like a parrot.
This didn't age well.

LEIA SHOT FIRST!
You know, when she shot poe?
SPOILER:
why no one speaks about Ackbar's death ... poor fish
antonio rafael I never really liked Ackbar. Raddus in Rogue One was cooler IMO
antonio rafael yeah I’m mad how they treated him
I tear up for the poor fish. I like Ackbard since i read my first EU book. I was sad...
I'm gonna go out on a limb here and guess that Ackbar is Rian Johnson's least favorite Star Wars character...
I literally could have cried when he died, lukes death was meh
Leia: "I'm Mary Poppins, y'all"
Well played
That is exactly what I thought when I saw that scene. Lol.
HAHAHAHA!!!
So funny but so awful
bigcat56308 it was cool but I didn’t like that she survived the void
I think that Ackbar should've been the one to ram the Raddus, instead he died when he was sucked into space
Unfortunately his voice actor died barely into the movie's production, so there wasn't much they could have done with him.
ACorp Productions True
ACorp Productions It's sad
Stakuga The Undying no Leia should of it would of been a great send off for her
Right, which is exactly why Kermit isn't in anything anymore... Oh wait.
The first order also lost the pizza ship
Eduardo Brito I just realized it does look like a pizza!
Kieran Farrell all star destroyers look like pizza slices.
Now its a boomerang xD
The Mandator-IV Pizza Siege Dreadnought, Fulminatrix
Nerdy Nachos this one is flat so it looks extra pizza looking
First time in Star Wars where a ship’s shields are not tight close to the hull, but rather in a bubble shape. I liked it
Admiral Trench yeah I noticed that
Very Trek like. I prefer those shields tbh.
Yeah, it gave me a sense that, like Kylo did, you could fly within the shields and do damage but you just hit the shields from afar. I also like that they put a limit on the effective range of laser weaponry.
That's Mon Calamari technology, right? Fits in nicely with their aquatic aesthetic.

Here it goes:
Do you think the students Kylo took after destroying Luke’s Jedi Temple became The Knights of Ren? I mean, where are The Knights of Ren?!
hernan frankrajch I think those were the guards. At least that's the impression I got
simply: yes
TheZandRproductions, I like that idea, but I think the Knights of Ren are separate... That said, I have no idea where they would be, and why they wouldn't be physically nearby Snoke or Kylo Ren. I do think there's a decent chance we'll see them as the antagonists in IX.
Obviously?
podracer35 I mean luke said there were a dozen other students and they're somehow missing but Snoke is surrounded by badass guards with amazing fighting abilities. Like where else would they be? Idk maybe that's just me but it felt like that to me
I really liked Yoda destroying the Force tree that was amazing
petr machacek he was so powerful creating lightning with lifting a finger. That's what luke should have been. Powerful. But no he didn't do anything and didn't even swing a lightsaber heck, he didn't even the leave the island
Arvin Djassemi ...If he wasn’t a force hologram (don’t know official name yet) then he wouldn’t have survived all the FIRE and what is left of the rebels wouldn’t have escaped
But you obviously have to be very strong with the force to do what Luke did
Arvin Djassemi Luke can do everything anyone does in the movie. It doesn't have to be displayed for you to know that, what he did was enough phenomenal feats not too little not too much.
that trigger me force ghost can't interact with the physical world yet in this movie is another thing they broke from the force
Drako why?
That's what I loved when I watched. I thought:
"Damm! Episode IX will be about the Resistence trying to reunite an army!"
But, nope!
How come so many people are complaining about Snoke? Did they forget that we didn't know anything about Palpatine until 20 years after ROTJ?
Or Darth Maul when he got cut in half.
ProcC How do we know that people didn't complain about Palpatine back in 1983?
ProcC, THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Best moments:
Poe vs cannons
Kamikazi Holdo
Everything in Snoke's throne room
A final lesson from Yoda
R2-D2 showing Leia's message to Luke (also the extremely fun easter egg that R2-D2 swears )
Luke accidentally creates Kylo Ren
"Shoot that man with everything we have"
Long live the supreme leader
Cranky old man Luke
Brother-Sister reunion (in an ironical way the fact that Carrie Fisher is dead makes the meaning of the scene 1000 times better)
All the Rey-Ben scenes
And something that has to do with the atmosphere in the theater I was in, the moment that Luke is ready to confort the First Order while the resistance looks at him with awe, brought cheers and goosebumps to every one at the cinema!
I am super conflicted with this movie
Natalie Eaton aren’t we all
Glad to see someone who doesn't just jump on a bandwagon.
The people claiming this is clearly the worst or clearly the best SW movie could need some sand on their high ground to bring them back down to earth.
Very Serious I think a lot of people who are called jumping on the bandwagon feel like this. Torn or simply disappointed. Not all of us call it the worst movie.
I am conflicted if it was better than empire or not. :p
Traumglanz it wasn't. Impossible horrible.
I agree i felt episodes 8 was suppose to be episode 9 we introducing alot of new things in the last of a trilogy
Sounds as horrible as it was
Hunter Rivera I agree. It is something I don't want, but it is the only thing I can think of for straightening out the issues with this film.
Hunter Rivera I agree, everything was great except for the directing
Admiral Ackbars death was the most disappointing thing ever.
KingMatthew801 well.. We went out in character..
It was the saddest death in the movie
Couldn't do too much with him, his voice actor died last year.
YipYipAnimation carrie fisher died too and they didn’t kill off her character
Jonathan Bevins
It means the voice actor died either during filming or before it but Carrie died after filming.
I thought this movie was awesome even if it did have some flaws. I liked that they took some unexpected turns and didn't just play it safe.
after two years, have your opinions changed?
@@lachiecarpenterr Well, my initial high has come down of course, and it's been about a year since I re-watched TLJ. I still like it overall and the parts I didn't care for I still don't. So, no not much really.
@@bambubambubambu1194 woah, wasn't sure if you would respond. Return of the king. Great thoughts.
@@lachiecarpenterr Lol. I wasn't sure either. But, you really got me thinking about it. So I figured hey, why not?
I like how Hux pulled a blaster out on Kylo but put it away when Kylo started to wake up.
Yeah, Hux should've been the new Tarkin.
My biggest problem was ackbar. They were basically like "Leia was gravely injured. Oh yeah also admiral ackbar died." What I think would've been cool was if we saw the tie fighters shoot, then we see ackbars eyes and he goes "for the rebellion, for the resistance" or something
Ikr, who cares if Luke dies, we knew that was going to happen, but Ackbar!?
The Voice actor for Ackbar Died not too long ago
I don't think it's that bad actually, they're at war, people die. And not always as heroes, most of the time it's for no reason at all.
Ackbar is only famous because of a dead meme FFS
I honestly don't think Phasma is dead. Expanded material had made it clear she is a survivor, and I don't think we've seen the last of her. I won't believe it until we get confirmation.
Good point.
Chagan Creates wouldn't it be cool if she survives and in ep 9 she takes of her mask and her face is all burned up since her helmet is cracked.
To your question at 8:30 didn't you see the books that Rey took, Yoda said she had everything she needs... Literally
They did ackbar wrong.. Phasma better be dead by episode 9. I hope Luke is in 9.
The same thing happened with Empire Strikes Back
Juan EXACTLY! Imagine if ep5 was the latest sw movie. You would be like really Leia powers? A robot is Luke's father? WTF
Overall what did you think of it, no spoilers please
Now I understand when Mark said that he disagreed with everything Rian Johnson made for Lukr
Eduardo Brito He also said it was the best Star Wars since Empire.
well which question was asked by someone with a microphone and a network behind them?
I loved what they did with Luke. It makes complete sense for him to be like this. I mean his own nephew basically becomes another Darth Vader under his tutelage. He has to feel somewhat responsible. I liked how he felt very different from previous trainees like Obi Wan and Yoda.
Eduardo Brito which character in star wars hated his character?
Obi Wan Kenobi (original trilogy)
Eduardo Brito yesssssss, I been saying the same thing he was saying that before TFA came out .
Did really not like Leia floating in space thing. Also, Hux reaching for something after he sees Snoke dead looking like he is going to shoot Kylo. Thoughts?
Hux wanted power.
Elijah Blechman
unlimited...power????
It's obvious Hux despises Kylo, the guy is constantly making death threats towards him, so he decided he would end the problem while he had the chance.
Leia has force abilities but yeah the floating kinda looked strange visually.
I really wanna see hux try to take kylo's place in the next film.
Was I just imagining it or did I spot the compass from Battlefront II in Luke’s hut?
ajzeg01 i saw it and i even gasped when i saw it

With Snoke dead and not the powerful force we thought he was, what do you think the mysterious thing Thrawn was warning of in the Unknown Regions? We thought it was Snoke, but now I'm not sure. Do you think "DJ" will appear in Episode IX? I was sure they'd reveal his name and it would have some meaning to Star Wars fans, but when they didn't and he did leave Fin and Rose to die I assumed we'd see him again. And with Kylo now Supreme Leader, do you think we'll finally see the Knights of Ren in Episode IX?
And just one other thing, I was disappointed we didn't see Force Ghost Obi-Wan or Anakin, but I enjoyed Yoda's scene with Luke. It reminded me of their squabbling in ESB.
the actual villain is leia cause shes supposed to be dead
Muhd Imran Changed now. Thanks, didn't want to spoil it for anyone in case they just glanced.
Batman Jr.
Hey,no problem,appreciate the quick edit:)
I loved that scene where an officer told Hux that Snoke wants to speak to him, then Hux says he'll speak to Snoke in his chambers. NOPE, Snoke's hologram appears and he uses the force to move Hux around, even wiping the ground with him.
All this divide, yep it's Star Wars lol.
You have no idea what you're talking about, piss off.
I like star wars for the “pew pew, bzzz, *force stuff*”. Not so much the fans :p
Why is no one talking about the force sensitive Kid at the End with the Force Pull and Yoda??
Lucas Menduni Kids can now use the force without knowing that seems weird like Anakin didn't use the force so easily, yet this kid used it soo easily.. seems unrealistic
The Lion King
Man that IS weird!
Luke Skywalker was amazing in this movie. RIP you legend (19BBY-34ABY/ 53 years old)
He'd still be alive with a wife and son if Disney never happened
He still is in the books. Those don't cease to exist because a movie was made.
Let the people enjoy something new and stop pushing the old like crazy.
A couple things you didn’t discuss:
1. Leia flying
2. Yoda
3. Nien Nunb.
4. Where the f is Lando? Casino world and no Lando? Come on. That’s a layup.
I was hoping Lando would be one of the reinforcements from the Outer Rim that heard Leia's call for help
I don't think Leia was flying as much as she was using the force to pull herself back to the Raddus.
Jesse Gill That is really unfair to billy dee Williams. He could be the next leader.
1. It was a force pull.
2. Friggin amazing! :D
3. He was there? Didn't notice
Rednas, same, I was almost sure of it.
phasma still unuseful again, ok.
SPOILERS AHEAD
Doesn't Snoke pretty much explain why she is so strong in the force? When he is having his talk with Rey he mentions that as Kylo grew strong with the Dark Side, the Light would rise up to meet it. And I think this is a better explanation than her parents being secret jedis or something like that, specially with the whole "balance" theme the movie has going on.
Which is pretty sad as it means none of their actions matter at all if the Force will just fix the balance by itself. Yay agency!
what the hell happened with the knights of ren? are they just not a thing anymore?
Episode 9 most likely
Rian didn't want them.
What about the Knights of Ren?!?!
Silly what? Those were Vibroblades. You could see a physical blade vibrating. They are like the next best thing to a Lightsaber.
I guess that we'll know more in Episode IX
Nah, we see them in JJs next one. Johnson was clearly not a fan of jj binks, so he left JJ to clear up his own mess und did touch basically nothing from TFA. Good for me, I could not stand TFA. ^_^
we're right here
Erwin Smith Johnson referenced them with Luke saying Kylo took some students
Luke Skywalker pulled off the biggest bamboozle of the year.
BOmBoozLeD
I agree. Poor execution made this movie a failure for me.
When Snoke tortures Rey, if you listen closely you can definitely hear the Emperor Palpatine theme!!!!
What does this mean? he isnt dead?
If you listen closely? It was loud! I think that now it’s just more of a “Dark Side Master Temptation Theme”
It doesn't mean anything other than that it is symbolic
Jamin Jedi Awful awful movie
He’s gonna come back because he has several clones on the planet Byss. Oh Palpatine. Sometimes the old EU was so dumb lol.
I loved Yoda snapping his fingers and obliterating the tree. That made me chuckle. "Page turners, they were not."
@Dave Skywalker Force Ghosts were more powerful on Ach-to because it's strongly connected to the force.
@Dave Skywalker Just like everything else in the Sequels, of course not.
You didn't mention the boy with the force
Sam T. no really? HAhA
Sam T. Master Broo!
That kid was so unnecessary though..
The Humor seemed “forced”
SilentKnight that was a better joke than any in the movie
H.Walker honestly they were
+SilentKnight Yup. I enjoyed most of the comedy but it was almost all out of place. This is Star Wars, not Marvel.
😑😑😑😑
Humor has been horrible in Hollywood for the last 20 years or so. It has almost ruined so many movies for me.
i still dont agree with how they wrote luke skywalker though. i feel like he wouldn't fall that low. i mean, he can see light and goodness in darth vader, and turn him on in front of the emperor effectively redeeming himself after tens of years in the dark side, but then he was afraid of the dark side in ben and considered to strike him down already? when he was still conflicted? i know it was a split second and its complicated and everything and it ended up creating kylo ren, but based on his experience, i thought he would be able to at least try to convince ben to resist. they can still make him fail from that, but it's not so out of his character from ROTJ. some people will like it though, it's unexpected thing from a character we know about so long and they're taking risk with it. but i kind of understand why Mark Hamill said he dont really like how they handle luke and he fundamentally disagree with everything in the script.
I cried when Ackbar died:(
*I just watched **_Star Wars: The Last Jedi_** **is.gd/7mz6AE** and now i watching it again with my sister.oh God, i'm so excited !*
He's not dead...
... it's a trap.
Caught by a trap, and died.. I feel like I don't even know Ackbar anymore :'(
R.I.P Ackbar. The trap got him. :-(
Bleachmaster 64 yeah, I was pretty bummed out when I realized he died during that bombing run.. I expected him to get more screen time
I just hate all of the negativity. You can hate the movie or love it, both are perfectly fine. But when everybody starts calling others "wrong" and an insult war starts it just really kills the vibe.
MyCubiclePenguin You're WRONG! AHSHAHAHSH9DBWUZNRUEYDUEU282YFUD
Star Wars fans are determined to destroy the franchise.
Spoilers
I loved the movie, and my favorite part was force ghost yoda.
What happened to Luke's green lightsaber? Did he lose it in the wreckage of the temple?
Kolin McKelvey prolly underwater with his x wing
What about Ben's blue one?
LTDLimiTeD1995
Last time we saw it was left behind when he became one with the force, I think.
Do you think they are setting something up for Poe and Rey? I say this because I noticed that when they meet, Poe says "I know", the same thing Han said to Leia in Empire.
maybe holdo was afraid that there was a mole in the resistance that told the first order were they were
I loved Snoke's telescope.
Star Wars Theory:
"A LIFE-SUPPORTER!"
Rian:
"Hah. It's a Telescope, biatch. And the red walls are curtains."
Samurai Saberz Good to see someone who not only gets it but explains so well
So I’m the only Star Wars fan that liked the last Jedi?
Nope; I love The Last Jedi!
N 8492 L I really liked it as well. Honestly nothing really bothers me in movie aside from Luke throwing his saber and the Finn and Rose sub plot
It’s in my top 3

This was my biggest issue with the film personally.
Resistance doesn't seem to have infinite resources to be able to make that sacrifice on a recurring basis.
If Luke didn't want to be found, why did he leave the map behind?
NerdGuy that should have been explained
NerdGuy
It wasn't a map to him, it was a map to Ahch-To.
Admiral Ackbar is dead? Noooooooooooo :(
lego builder ITS A CRAP
lego builder It’s a trap
Feel sorry for J.J Abrams, he made a movie with Luke just in the last scene hyping it up then Rian kills him off so Abrams won't get to do anything with more with Luke
Martin Kaller JJ helped write the script
I think Luke will be in ep.9 just like Obi Wan was in Return of the Jedi
Udvardy András agreed
Udvardy András But we won’t get to see him be a complete bad ass as the grand master. What a bloody waste.
He isn't a super badass grand master. he's a broken men full of shame. He lost everything, even his nefew and he know it's his fault.
RIP All the time wasted making videos on who Snoke and rey's parents could be.
Henry Navarro They were just speculation, not factual predictions, if that makes sense
Oh, how things have changed.
Michael Mulherin yeaah, i'm really disappointed too, it's a waste of character and actress
I still think her armor may be strong enough for her to survive and she comes back with part of her face burned, I just don't want another Boba Fett.
*Yes. Rey is sent by the force to match the darkness that Luke felt in Ben Solo.*
Rey’s original name was Kira.
Rikard Holmqvist how do you know all this?
Alex Lkw It's just speculation! I think the info about the name Kira was in a documentary for TFA. And the thing about the angel wings I heard from someone else
*I just watched **_Star Wars: The Last Jedi_** **is.gd/7mz6AE** and now i watching it again with my sister.oh God, i'm so excited !*
Rey means King in Spanish, because she will drain any main character of their masculinity.
Rikard Holmqvist is that a jojo reference?
RIP Luke, snoke, phasma, and ackbar :(
Takoda Hager we most all morn the lost of Admiral Akbar he was the msot important person to die
Well, Phasma's fate remains a little ambiguous. She did fall into the burning remains of the ship, but we still don't know if she actually died.
SPOILERS
Do you think that Disney will explain Snoke in a book or comic after what happened in the TLJ?
Jack Ryan Wright I really hope they do.
Alex Możdżyński Yeah I’ve seen the rumor across some TH-cam channels.. But those are the same Theorist that thought Rey was Jyn’s daughter lol.
I think there's still more to snoke we don't know. It doesn't make sense for them to not release any backstory whatsoever and have him be a pretty useless character.
Of course they will, you actually think they will let that opportunity to cash it?
I’m absolutely certain we will get a Snoke novel. And I really hope it’s written by James Luceno.
The destruction of the supremacy... It was beautiful of course, but kind of overpowered, couldn't one kamikaze have destroyed a great part of the empire's fleet??
MineWarz
That is something I have been thinking about too.
Exactly, who needs an exhaust port on the Death Star when you could have just crashed a cruiser through it at light speed
The rebels have WAY more troops than the Resistance. I mean, in the end, there is like, FIFTEEN PEOPLE LEFT! Barely enough to fit in the Falcon.
you should do some imperial alert sounds on the Warning-Screen :D
Snokes throne room reminded me of a Flash Gordon set
Rey's parentage is NOT up for debate. Rey said it herself "They were nobody."
Legit criticism! I agree with what you said!
Yeah, DJ was hard to understand a lot of the time. I had to listen real closely to register his lines.
It was such a great film, the only gripe I have is not seeing Luke fight Kylo properly
you should get a refund for the phasma book it was just a Disney cash grab
jay day book was good but the whole set up for her and books like Canto Bight was kinda worthless in hindsight
Going by that logic you should get your money back on every Boba Fett and Darth Maul story too
jay day Agreed, I expected more from her.
Brendan only difference is most of the time when we get stories like that its after the film as just some extra reading to flesh them out the phasma book was just to build hype for her role in the movie because of what happened in TFA but as you know she did nothing is this and she died to so why hype her up CASH GRAB
*Lucasfilm story group cash grab.
We are all basically Luke in this movie. The old fools still holding on to the old Star Wars religion. And Yoda/Disney just blew it up and laughed. Then they killed us. They minimized Rey as well.
In the end he believes in the Jedi again. The movie is all about destroying hope, but in the end, showing a way and regaining that hope.
Also I wanted to point out (Spoiler Alert)
How Rey is a nobody and then the kid at the end who had the force.
I thought Snokes Death was horrible, hes to powerful not to read Kylos brain about light saber
to the stomach. Daiseys Jedi training was very WEAK compared to yoda teaching Luke. I liked the Movie But there was some not so good Situations.
222light Atoms he did read his mind. That was the point.
222light Atoms Darth Sidious didn't read Vaders mind when he betrayed him. It's the dark side blinding you. Most sith lords die because their apprentices overthrow them.
Here Are All The Deaths In Star Wars The Last Jedi:
Paige Tico - Died when her bomber crashes into Canady's exploding dreadnought
Captain Canady - Died in the destruction of an imperial dreadnought
Admiral Ackbar, Admiral Statura, Doctor Kalonia, Major Brance, and Major Ematt - Died when the bridge of a resistance cruiser blew up
Supreme Leader Snoke - Died when Kylo Ren ignited a lightsaber into his stomach using the force
Vice Admiral Holdo - Sacrificed herself to destroy part of Snoke's flagship by driving a resistance cruiser into hyperspace
Captain Phasma - Fell into a ball of fire after the floor under her collapsed
Luke Skywalker - Died from exhaustion
Those aren't all of the deaths... Basically the entire resistance was wiped out. And probably a lot of First Order members died too, the Supremacy was sliced in half, probably a lot of deaths there...
Okay so these deaths are the identified deaths
I wouldn't say Phasma's death is confirmed until the next movie...
Loved 2 things in the movie: Yoda and luke in crait
Eh from what I've read it's "Love it or hate it" and for me it's clearly the later... the people i talked about the movie also had been rather underwhelmed...
Spoiler:
The "heroic Sacrfice of the last bomber"... because Arvel Crynyd destroying the Executor wasn't enough...
XD
It's similar with me mate. I find their Last Jedi review/critique and manner it's presented. That seals or breaks the deal for me
What about Supergirl in Space aka Leia? That was horrible.
Marcus W the rest was good tho
Opinions on how they handled Kylo's story?
Darth Bulnes I was totally indifferent towards this movie going in but ended up hating it.
Alex Kay
Spoilers for those who haven't seen it!!
I hope so. I didn't expect him to "die" so fast. Hope he comes back in one form or another. But if he doesn't then whateves.
Alex Kay I wondered the same thing. Just because the dude was cut into two pieces by a lightsaber doesn't mean he can't reappear; look at Darth Maul.
bookgirl810s if he reappeared to lead the first order is it ridiculous to think he'll regenerate for 9, maybe even faster considering the amount of force power throughout the Galaxy is increasing in general in the general population (pure speculation of course)
SPOILERS
I feel like they missed out on an opportunity to write out Leia if they could had reworked it so that Luke would ask her to join him power his projection, followed by a moment where the Skywalker twins - connected but separate - fade away, strengthening the point that the future belongs to the new generation.
Also did you notice Gareth Edward's cameo? He was beside the guy who tasted the salt on Crait.
Also; Also Rey took the 'Sacred Jedi Texts', you can see them in the Falcon
Bring on the Director's / Extended / Fan Cut
Luke Actually Poe does tell Finn if my memory is correct. Because Poe tells Finn about the evacuation and Finn states how close they are and that they just need a little more time. Which is why Poe initiates the coup. Just fyi. I totally agree about seeing a director’s cut though, and I really wish we had seen more of Luke’s reaction to Han’s death.
MrDan1941 I'm gonna have to watch it again to make sure!
I like how the fleet and gear of the First order was justified by just some loans from some rich Aholes.
and the resistance
Who says it's the only source?
Michael Ford well there is also the corrupted senators
Its never so simple, but will never know until they elaborate on the novels and/or comics
Makes no sense. Why would they not control their own production? Why would there be arms dealers involved? Why go through a middle man when you can just take over the factories?
I think I saw the Jedi books in the Millenium Falcon when Rey opened the drawer for medical supplies. If so Rey stole them to complete her training.
Or more likely protect them from Luke.
What's with Leia flying?
What do you mean
she used the force, her dad was the most powerful being in Star wars, and her twin brother was the chosen one, she should be powerful too, its in her blood.
khiatus kjheru' and she's had no training in it. Im guessing they are going to create a book explaining her force powers. But it seemed kinda ridiculous that out of no where she could propel through the vacuum out of nowhere.
Funnyman 0074 How do you know she hasn't had any training? Well maybe not training but practice
Any true Star Wars fan knows Jedi Master Plo Koon pulled himself through space with the Force in the Malevolence Clone Wars episode, so why are people upset about Leia doing so?
