My absolute favorite Bible. I had a copy of their first printing in genuine leather, but the covers started pulling away from the text block. At the time, the Legacy Edition was out of print, but I finally got the green Heirloom Legacy last month. It’s a great Bible for reading and for teaching!
I have this Bible and can honestly say it’s by far the best I’ve owned, as you say it’s very classic and love the feel of both the silky touch pages and quality goatskin cover. It’s a good investment that hopefully will last for a couple of generations.
Superb craftsmanship and quality, other then the cheap ribbons. Love the text block, easy on my middle aged eyes. One of my favorites and I own Schuyler, Allan and Cambridge.
I am lucky enough to have the Horween edition of this bible. I love it! Everything about it is just right. I love the layout, the font size, the readability, the margins have room for notes and the leather is GORGEOUS. It smells good too. Everything about it is inviting me to read it more. What more could you ask for?
Thanks Tim, I prefer the Omega as I’m more of a 2 column guy. Would love to see EB do one of their exclusives in red. Appreciate your insight and positivity as always.
Agreed. I first encountered this kind of format in the New Cambridge Paragraph KJV Bible (which has the wider inner margin, while the outer is narrow) and I loved the layout. Paragraph format, no spaces between chapters, nice small verse numbers that you almost don't even notice. Very enjoyable to read, and now I gravitate more toward single column paragraph Bibles, so I got the ESV Legacy. Lexham English Septuagint also has the same layout as the ESV Legacy. I hope, I hope they make the Legacy Standard Bible in this format as well. I wish they didn't insist so much on verse-by-verse format...
I have one but it doesn't do anything for me because I find it hard to read. Heritage is my main Bible and it is a much better layout for me and the font reads larger. Legacy is great but I find the font reads very small and can't get on to the bunched up text compared to the Heritage. Anyway, glad you love it, Tim, however, I'll be selling mine. Great review, as always! 😀
Thank you Tim for all your great reviews! I am on a quest for the perfect premium Bible. I' m hoping that you will know whether or not it exists. I am less concerned about the Bible size than the readability of the text. I prefer either the ESV or the NASB versions. What I am looking for is a large or giant print (at least 10 pt) in single column verse by verse format. I would prefer the cross references in the gutter. I love color additions for the chapter numbers and verse numbers, etc. Small decorative touches and in text art work would be awesome. I do want leather, but am fine with calfskin, goatskin, buffalo - whatever. Three good ribbons or even four would be best. Does anyone make anything like this?
🎗️About the ribbons... Awhile back someone mentioned that the ribbon acts like a page marker and is not actually meant to be pulled on because can damage the top tail band similar to tabs which if you use to flip the page can rip right of the tip of the (thin) paper So since then I try not to use the ribbon to flip open Bible but rather use it visually to find my page... Like how most ppl use a 🔖 That being said... I prefer the lovely Berisford
Excellent video as always Tim! Yesterday I emailed Crossway asking if they were planning on releasing the Heirloom Legacy in the Wellington Leather this year and unfortunately they are not (dang it!!!) They directed me to search the internet for the Legacy that they released in the Horween and after scouring the web no such luck 😞
My first premium Bible was the ESV Heirloom Wide Margin Reference Bible. I love it. The interesting thing about this one is that you have the ESV logo, with the circle around it, plus the ESV written out too.
I wanted to like this Bible so badly. I search for a superb quality single-column ESV Bible for reading that does not use 28 GSM paper. I just do not like the text block here. I would prefer a larger font or even the same font with the text spaced out more to make use of the bottom of the page. My hardcover Crossway ESV Preaching Bible is so much easier to read than this. So disappointed, that I will likely donate this Bible. My lesson is always carefully examine the text block photos before purchase to see if it is what I would prefer.
These videos help me a ton. I felt that the blocks of text are big on this one, I almost prefer the double column even though they are not my first choice. Overall this is a great price for this high quality of a bible.I will probably end up getting the NKJV Edged Lined Humble Lamb. The only other Bible I was eyeing was the Cambridge Clarion ESV Goat Skin that is Edge Lined but overall I think id prefer the Humble Lamb bible because the text is beautiful.
Very hard to believe they still do the stacked skinny ribbons. Almost makes me think Crossway does this in spite of their customer's clear disappointment with it. You know if Tim Wildsmith is critical of it then it needs changing!
Is that a character mark running horizontally across the front/back of the cover? My green exclusive has the exact same marking! This is definitely my favorite ESV out there. The layout is just so easy on the eye.
Thank you so much! I'm so impressed by this layout. Can I ask, how hard is it to hold in your hand. I have small hands. I have a Schuyler Quentel that I love, but it is so big to hold and read while just sitting in my chair.
I realize that the ESV and CSB are widely used these days, but for those of us (I'm episcopalian) who prefer the RSV/NRSV are feeling a little left out in the premium bible market. Have you heard anymore as to what is going to be coming out this year? Schuyler has a great RSV, sadly not a psq, but I havent seen anything from Cambridge or Allan in ages.

Red!! ❤️
I recently purchased this bible and love it! It truly is the perfect balance between a reader's bible and a standard paragraph text-block.
Nice!!

Check out the NASB Single Column Reference from Zondervan!

Bummer! Maybe you can find one in the "Bible Exchange" Facebook group!

Yep… it’s one of the older ones.
@@timwildsmith And I just ordered the Heirloom Legacy Single Column in Blue goatskin. Got it for 115.00 from CBD.

Hahaha… you gotta wonder!!
I owned this Bible and ended up trading it for an Allan ESV1. I just couldn’t get used to the single column text.
I like the ESV1 a lot, too... very different feels.
At this point, I think Crossway still uses the subpar ribbons just for spite, lol. Amazing how stubborn they are about it.
Hahaha... I know!
i hope Crossway listens to these videoes.. and change the ribbons in the future! :-)

Yep!!
Thanx, Pastor Tim 🌹🌹🌹
You’re welcome, Brenda!
Tim, you think you can preach from this type of Bible? Or is it mostly a preface?
I think so!
Thank you so much! I'm so impressed by this layout. Can I ask, how hard is it to hold in your hand. I have small hands. I have a Schuyler Quentel that I love, but it is so big to hold and read while just sitting in my chair.
This is about the same size as the Quentel.
Great video

We’ll be getting a bunch of new NRSV editions from Cambridge and Zondervan this year… I haven’t heard anything about more premium RSVs.
@@timwildsmith Any premium editions coming out for the NLT?
@@jennyscorza9654 My understaning is that Schuyler has an NLT Quintel coming out the end of this year, possibly 2023!
@@jacquelineblacker1077 Ooh, exciting, thank you!
Excellent review. So the VBV Preaching Bible will be produced in the Netherland going forward? If so, I hope they use 36+ GSM paper and not the 28.
Good question... I don't know where they will produce that, because it's technically not part of the "Heirloom" series.
I think I would cut those ribbons out and use bookmarks instead. I use bookmarks with my bible.
This is my current version of the ESV. I have the 2011 LEGO.
Nice!!
If you still have that Green ESV Heirloom Legacy I will give you a pretty penny for it.
Might get the green one!
Yeah!
Which bible has best leather Allan, schuyler, cambridge or crossway???
I suppose that depends on personal preference. I like the highland goatskin from Allan a lot.
have you reviewed the faithlife study bible?
Nope.
Beautiful! But I’m afraid those ribbons will have to be replaced!! 😂🤣😃
I need to learn how to do that!
@@timwildsmith Tim Nickels will have to run a ribbon workshop. 😂🤣
are you going to have bible giveaway with that bible if you are put my name in for drawing
Stay tuned, Brad.
Cool
Yep!
No. But thank you for the review. :)
