Never thought I’d be saved 10 years ago enjoying a Bible unboxing video 😂 God Is Good
I wish we have Bibles in this quality here in Brazil, but I'm already grateful for we can have a bible.
HA BRAZIL LMAOOOO AHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!
@@AnAppealToHate Um, seriously?
@@scyth2 yeah man, this dudes skin is literally the same color as poo. literally unreal!!!
@@scyth2 yeah thats what im saying! Those brown freaks down there are still eating each other! As if they could understand theology.
I love this!!!! Thank you for a great review that answered all of my immediate questions!
Good morning everyone!! Hope everybody has had a great week so far and I hope the rest of the week is even better!! Thanks Tim , looking forward to another great review!
Thanks, Wayne!
It reminds me of the size of the Cambridge Emerald which for me is perfect. I’m so glad Crossway have released this! Totes gonna grab that! Cheers Tim! X
This Bible checks off a lot boxes for me and it might become my EDC once I get it! Thanks again Tim for the aweosme review.
Hope you enjoy it!
I think the ribbon is such a personal preference thing. I have the ESV Heritage featured in this video and an ESV PSQ with the bigger, thick red ribbons. I have to say that I think I personally prefer the thinner ribbons to thicker ribbons. But I think that just shows a personal preference to what we like and maybe Crossway is just going to stick with that. Great video as always!
Thank you, Brother Tim 🌹⭐🌹
You are very welcome!
I never heard about the Alpha coming out. Just looked it up, and that footprint hits the sweet spot for one hand holding!
Thanks Tim, this was helpful! For the money I think I prefer the PSQ with some extra features.
I watch all your videos but this may be the bible ive been the most tempted to purchase myself. ESV isn't my top translation but that size and quality is fantastic.
The ultimate EDC! Amazing bible, another great review 🤗
Thanks, Johnny Mac!
Love this review!!! At first, I thought the Alpha was basically the Heirloom Thinline that was cropped down and everything else looks the same, so I was hesitant to get it. But it was that line match that totally sold on me.
👍🏼👍🏼
I like the crossway ribbons. I'm not a big fan of large thick ribbons. Great review. Beautiful Bible!
Stunning Bible and great review
Thanks so much!
Thanks for the review TIm. I'd love to see Crossway move to a 32 or 36GSM paper in their Heirloom bibles (thinking 316 with the LSB and Allan with the Readers). I would sacrifice a tiny bit of thinness for a thicker paper. Crossway layouts are some of the best, but I don't care for the 28GSM paper.
They need to release a more premium version of the personal reference single column… Allen tried but I want the same compact size but in a nicer format.
I'd love to see that Bible with this paper!
That Bible is my favorite right now. I agree, I'd love to see that book printed on top-quality paper and with a real leather binding.
It looks awesome!!
Gosh I love this!!!!
I have the Crossway ESV Heirloom single-column Legacy. I really like single-column bibles but it would be nice to be a little more compact version.
I think of the two I would prefer the Heritage since I like single column layouts. I am looking forward to the True Tone version of the Heritage next year.
Agree with the ribbons, need to be better. Wish this was a single column but a lovely sized bible, well done Crossway!
This Bible in Wellington might just become my new preaching Bible! I typically like the 8.5 x 5.5 but I think this might be close enough to work, plus I always did like the PSR too.
I have this in the Wellington leather, and I love it
Nice!
The Heirloom Alpha ESV looks like an amazing Bible, and I'm sure it'd be great to have, but for my money I'd still prefer the Schuyler PSQ ESV for a portable double column premium ESV (e.g. I like the PSQ's red accents; I prefer the Schuyler PSQ Milo typeface to the Alpha Lexicon typeface).
I personally struggle with lexicon because of how thin the letters are. I have great vision and still, I have a hard time focusing on the font. I use the thinline and I'm planning to switch to a different bible. Wish comfort print wasn't proprietary because its my favorite. Is the PSQ easier to read than the thinline edition?
Love my heritage. Sometimes wish it were thinner or smaller. I wouldn't mind slightly smaller fonts but identical layout...
If the Alpha had the same page layout as the omega, this would be amazing, great for memorisation
Thanks, Tim, for this review. I am really impressed with the quality of Crossway's heirloom Bibles and your passion in all your reviews. So, I was wondering - do you plan to do a review of the recent ESV Heirloom Heritage, Wellington leather edition? I just received my copy a few days ago, and it took my breath away! I would love to hear your comments. BTW - I look forward to reading your book.
Hope to get one any day now!
Still liking the Heritage or Omega out of all of them.
Would love to see how it compares to the PSQ in terms of font size and presentation given the similar size
This came up at a perfect time. The church I’ve started attending uses the esv bible
Nice!
If I used the ESV, the hardest choice would be which of the so many excellent formats to buy. 8pt 7"x5" text only is the perfect every-day-carry size.
Agreed... ESV fans have SO MANY options!
I love my Omega. Though, I feel like at this price range, I'd still lean towards getting a PSQ. Then again, opening the Omega is always a great experience, I'm sure that I would also feel the same about the Alpha.
Both made at the same place. Just have to decide if you want the references or not in that small footprint. Quality should be the same.
It may be roughly the same pagination as the Large Print Compact (one of which was the first Bible that I got more than two years ago -- my first Bible in decades), and seemingly the same font size . . . but it looks like the leading (space between lines) MIGHT be just slightly larger on the Alpha. If it's line-matched, that would be new as well (don't think the LPC was). I do find it interesting that the Alpha has maps, but no concordance (LPC has no maps, but DOES have a concordance).
If you can get away w/out concordance or cross references, this would be a VERY NICE OPTION!! I'm certainly interested . . .
I have a personal size ESV study Bible. I would love to have it rebound in a nice leather and nice ribbons. Any suggestions? I love your videos! Thank you for all the hard work you put into researching Bibles for us!
check out my Rebinds playlist... I've reviewed lots of great Bible rebinders!
@@timwildsmith thank you
Looks like a great travel Bible.
It is… I’m traveling with it right now!
You going to review that new Desert Camel Calfskin from Schuyler ? Looks beautiful!
Oh yeah!
Oh my goodness seeing you turn the cover back stressed me out lol. Very beautiful Bible. I love crossway
You had me excited that they maybe had finally decided to make a premium PSR edition....sigh nope
I had and loved the original version in lambskin, although it was let down by the poorly printed text block. I would love to see that with the RJ treatment someday...
I wish!
Every time Crossway comes out with something new I get excited…only to get sticker shocked into another Schuyler or steadfast. That Wellington leather is cool I guess, but not almost $400 cool, especially for a Bible the size of a note card.
Love this! How does it compare to the Pitt Minion?
Thicker, but the font size is much more readable.
If you had to choose between the thinline and the alpha which would you go for? Struggling to decide between the two, thank you Tim for all your videos!
Hmmm… probably Alpha, but it’s close.
No cross reference suite was a miss on this. Not sure why I'd go for this over a PSQ or even an heirloom thinline.
The Alpha and the LP Compact both have an 8 pt type. So, it's just the margins are wider in the Alpha? Or is there also more space between lines?
How does this bible compare to the ESV Personal Reference bible in terms of line spacing, font size and readability?
Hey Tim. Do you like the Alpha or your Personal Reference Bible better? The Alpha seems to be slightly smaller.
The PR is still my favorite... but I wish they made those with this paper!
Hey Tim, which do you prefer among the heritage, omega, thinline and the alpha? kind of confuse between omega and thinline size. Thanks :)
Hmmm... I think the Heritage is my favorite, followed by the Alpha. The Thinline is smaller than the Omega, and it does not have cross-references.
I'm glad that it is not printed in China. With more and more persecution of Christians there, I find myself looking for Bibles printed in the USA or other countries. I still wish the words of Christ were in red. I'm hoping you have some insight as to why so many of the newer translations don't use that. This one says it has an 8pt font. That is too small for me as I get older I tend to look for the larger print when available. Great review and look forward to your future videos. I just watched your Bibles you don't like video and found out you are from TN. I'm in TN too, so hello neighbors! Sending Christian love and hope to you and your wife. Maranatha!
Hey Tim. Crossway lists the font size of both the Thinline and Alpha as 8 point. You stated the Thinline has a slightly larger type face. Is the Thinline font noticeably larger than the Alpha?
It looks slightly larger to my eye... but not super noticeable.
I am horribly KJVO. Wait for the barbs. LOL!
I love all your videos, though. Did you ever review the KJV Giant Print Thinline Premier Collection from Thomas Nelson?
My favorite non KJV video that you made? Do I have to pick one? They are all great. I look forward to your videos. Also, I can’t wait for more Becca content. The blindfolded Bible guessing was hilarious.
Thanks! I don't think I ever got a copy of that one.
Do you know if the brown Wellington leather edition of this Bible will patina with time and use? I know the black goatskin won’t but I wonder about the other. Thanks for any answers you have.
Yes, it will. Very much so.
I wrote Cromwell Leathers, where the Wellington Leather comes from, about the question regarding this leather Patina-ing over time and use and this is their reply: "Thank you for your inquiry through our website.
Wellington Cowhide has a smooth surface, it should develop a patina with use over time.
Best regards,
Margaret Zulkowsky
CROMWELL LEATHER GROUP"
How’s the type face compare to the PSQ? I know they’re both 8pt. But sometimes different fonts look bigger or smaller. Does it appear larger than the PSQ or smaller?
It's slightly smaller to my eye.
Yes, slightly smaller, The PSQ is 8.5 pt while this is 8 pt. Overall, very similar. As was mentioned, I think the PSQ has a slightly thicker font, which, to my eye, would make it a bit easier to read.
Do you prefer the alpha or the heritage as an everyday Bible Tim? I’m wanting a good personal size ESV but don’t want anything hard to read
I prefer the Heritage, but it is definitely BIGGER than the Alpha.
I was able to handle an Alpha at a local Christian Bookstore. To be honest, I was disappointed with it. I have an Evangelical Bible exclusive Crossway Heirloom Omega in green. I love this Bible! The Alpha in black leather just didn’t feel as nice or as high quality.
For the money, I think the Schuyler PSQ is better.
Hot take: Crossway's ribbons are nicer because they are easier to tuck in without getting scrunched up at the top of the page.
Hey-o!!
I've been waiting for a long time for this Bible to come out, as I have long felt that the ESV Thinline Bibles are too tall and skinny (they just don't feel hearty or "Bible-y" enough in my hands), and the ESV Large Print Compact has a problem with really bad ghosting (although it is a nice size for carrying around). I've been on the search for an ESV that I can carry around in my backpack and use while I'm out and for sharing with friends, and perhaps this could be a good option. I don't understand why this Alpha edition doesn't have a concordance (it adds a lot of usefulness and barely adds any thickness to the Bible), and also why they are sticking with the glossy dedication/family and map pages(I've long had issues with these pages on my other ESV thinlines, where they tend to smudge up and get what looks like ink marks bleeding through when I write on them). I wish, also, that there was something else in terms of red accents with the chapter numbers or book titles, just to give it a more beautiful look. Finally, I wish that Crossway had a non-premium version of this size Bible that could be more affordable (honestly I am not considering the Large Print Compact because I bought several to give away and was appauled by how bad the ghosting is on them). Thanks for a great review, Tim!
Thanks for sharing!
I like it.
The price point is so off for what you get here
I personally like the ribbons
I think a lot of people are fine with them.
Wow, more expensive than a Schuyler/Allan/Cambridge! For a nearly $300 bible definitely not for me, but could be "the one" for somebody at that nice small size
Crossway's price is $203 with their free Crossway+ membership... and I would guess that Amazon and ChristianBook will be even lower than that when arrive in stock.
Gotcha, so pretty much a direct competitor with the PSQ. Nice! @@timwildsmith
$300 is the MSRP which is pretty much an irrelevant figure today. Nobody pays sticker for things like this.
Thanks :) I was actually going off of the Amazon price, which is near 300 at the moment. @@RoastBeefSandwich
They need to update their ribbons seriously
More KJV reviews please.
Why does Crossway hate ribbons? Even inexpensive versions of the NKJV come with two ribbon markers that are wider. It seems like any ESV bound in either Buffalo Leather or Genuine Leather should come with at least two ribbons. I love the quality from Crossway, but they do seem to love to skimp on ribbons.
@7:48 the PSQs sadly do not have concordances 😢 one of the only things that I dislike about them... other than rhat, they are fantastic Bibles!
That top grain large print compact looks amazing and affordable but it is out of print 😢
If Crossway keeps making these beautiful Bibles, I'm going to have to learn how to replace ribbons.
Hahaha!
The Alpha looks to be about the same size as the Cambridge Concord.
It's actually quite a bit smaller.
Hey great video. Thanks. I’ve been looking for my perfect Bible. I’m hoping to find a BIG ESV. I keep looking online and it seems like they’re all personal size or compact. I want a big Bible with big letters and thick paper. Like a Bible for the house that’s made to last and easy to read. Has anybody come across an ESV Bible like that? You can get king James Bible’s like that, but I can’t seem to find an ESV.
Look at the ESV Large Print Wide Margin.
@@RoastBeefSandwich thank you for the suggestion. I looked it up and it might be what I’m looking for. Great username by the way!
@@Yesica1993 my wife has that one. It has great notes and illustrations!
I’m frustrated that it doesn’t have a concordance; that is a deal breaker. I wish they would simply take their personal reference Bible, make it a premium edition, and add maps and book introductions. That would be perfect.
Everyone is different, I suppose-I’m very glad that they left out the concordance on this small portable edition. I’d rather have a thinner Bible and leave out the extra stuff on an edition that I’m going to carry everywhere.
@@TheDareD3vil Shouldn't have included maps then.
So I misunderstood the name of this Bible. It has nothing to do with the Alpha program by Nicky Gumble?
It does not.
Imagine if they made these personal sized Bibles in a credo version 🤤
Do they make study bibles?
Yes, the ESV Study Bible is awesome.
I think I found my forever small Bible and daily driver. Its probably bad that I keep my Schuyler in great condition, but with this, I’ll drive into the ground because of its life time guarantee😂
Luke 17:21 - Is the kingdom of God “within you” or “among you”?
Goodness me @Tim I think you now have so many bibles, that the film plot "The Book of Eli" is simply not plausible anymore 🤣
Ha!
Noooo I LOVE thin ribbons. Thicker ones take up too much gutter space and make me want to move it out of the way when I'm reading
My biggest beef with Crossway's type setting is how they butcher poetic sections with all these single and half words having their own lines. Schuyler does the poetic setting far better
seems rather small potatoes to me, but I acknowledge that once we get to this premium price tier it's all small differences that separate the choices.
@@RoastBeefSandwich for me personally the type setting/text block is the most important part of a Bible. Considering that a large percentage of Scripture is in the poetic setting I think it makes a substantial difference visually. It's what has prevented me from purchasing any Crossway or Allan ESV premium bible.
@@souldier2425 I think most style guides recommend continuing a line until the end and then breaking it when you've run out of room (as Crossway does it), not breaking the line whenever you want to create a "solid block" of text so to speak.
I agree - I find one word widows very annoying and distracting, and there seems to be a lot of them in the poetic sections that this video shows.
I also agree Schuyler handles single column poetry much better.
@@RoastBeefSandwichI could eat a small potato.
PSQ doesn’t have a concordance.
Correct. The only downside to the PSQ. The Quentel has the concordance and a third ribbon, but also bigger dimensions. Worthwhile trade off for an EDC, in my opinion.
Just show the video.
You say it’s opaque. OK, but it doesn’t LOOK opaque.
It has taken a long time, but I now have something to disagree with you about. CROSSWAY RIBBONS ARE SUPERIOR TO ALL OTHER RIBBONS!! DON'T GIVE IN, CROSSWAY!! STAY STRONG!! LOL
Hahaha!
Those ribbons are a disgrace.
This Bible is over $300.00 USD. Get yourself a cheap one and give the balance to the poor.
The average American walks around with a $1,000 phone in their pocket that only lasts 5 years, but you are worried about someone spending $300 on an artfully produced copy of God's word that will last a lifetime?
@@justinj_00 I'm not speaking to aveagae Americans; I was speaking to Christians.
ESV Bibles should have Red Letters in the Words of JESUS.
There a few that do.
Anyone ever think that wrapping our bibles in dead animal skin might be a trick? A blood sacrifice to someone we would rather not make a sacrifice to?
No.
@@2SnakesWell you should sometime.
I really love how simple this Bible is, that is what I am looking for! (no wide margins, no commentary, etc) but I would like a larger Bible and single column. Any suggestions?
I really like the ESV translation but it really would have been nice if the ESV translators would have put back God’s Holy Name in English, either Yahweh or Jehovah, where it belongs throughout the scriptures much like what the original American Standard or the Rotherham translators did. Peace
But those are a guess at the Hebrew YHWH and Latin. Unless you are the scholar, why wouldn't you want it in English? They do use all capitols to signify YHWH when it is used.
@@WilliamKister They also guess at how to pronounce the name of Jesus, but it doesn’t stop them from using his name in scripture.
