Watch closely when Geoff does his famous growl near the end then Layne came back at him with his Geoff looks over at him, so funny. I love haw those two play off each other.
Props to Eli for the arrangement (with Layne), the background, and the wall he built for the set. Shot at the same studio as Valhalla Calling, but on a lesser scale... (and the ac was actually working this time). 😊
This song was from our high school days (im the same age as Eli, Layne, and Geoff...and grew up in the same geographical area as them) Im guessing, much like Creep, its taking them back to their origins/favorite music growing up. Add in the videogame factor and it's a 🎯. I have no idea how they keep just getting better and leveling up. Love that Eli is also doing some arranging more often. He and Layne absolutely killed this. They all shone soooo well. Cesars entrance is just perfection to set the tone....and then the black hole of their talent swallows our brains!!
He's got so many great reactions, but don't miss his reaction to VoicePlay's "Hoist the Colours." For a lot of us, it's our favorite reaction video. Dennis over at King Family even reacted to Qofy's reaction and then Brad reacted to that video, and it's just a fun little reaction rabbit hole to fall into. 😂
@@wowguy1243 it was one of my firsts with him too! I discovered VoicePlay somewhere around the time their wicked medley came out(I think), so Hoist the Colours was a more recent release and it instantly caught my attention. Naturally, I went looking for reaction videos and found Qofy's. The rest is history, lol.
The fact Voiceplay would cover this song came as a big surprise but holy hell I loved it from the first 15 seconds. Ive been impatiently waiting for the public release so I could rave about it haha.
This cover sounds better and better every time I listen to it. The boys go all out, and I know I have said it before, but they just keep getting better and better with each cover they do. I am familiar with the original, and it really does nothing for me, but this is amazing and complicated and just wow...lol Great reaction!!
Every time Eli and Anthony team up, expect something on another level. I went into this thinking it's impossible to pull off, but then I remembered "Nothing Else Matters" exists. Eli packed this song full of explosives and blew it into outer space. The nostalgia is real in this one. This song came out my Freshman year. I became a grunge girl thanks to Soundgarden. Loved your reaction, man. Great expressions, great insight.
It literally sucks out all the oxygen out of the room listening to it, what an amazing cover, great to see your reaction, you were as awestruck as I expected.
I’m so glad I listened to this before watching you. I couldn’t decide which was more fun to watch, the video or your reaction. I absolutely love your reactions!
Man…this song takes me BACK. I remember being in high school in science class huddled over a discman listening to Soundgarden doing our lab work. Brilliant cover.
VoicePlay & Geoff Castellucci are in a class separate from normal reality : they’re really that incredibly complex. The whirling, echoing beginning makes me feel as though I’m getting sucked into it. Nice reaction. Each measure could be dissected for 20 minutes.
That's actually a cover of a song by Soundgarden from the 1990ies. I don't know whether it was also in a game lately. But it's a really cool cover of an already great song. But then, it's VoicePlay, so... their recent songs all were good, and so is this one.
So glad you were able to break this down for us..as I didn’t know what I was hearing..except I knew it was Voice Play magic..☺️. There should be a law against putting Eli and Anthony together ..doing those amazing crazy riffs! Another great Voice Play reaction to add to your ever increasing list…🤩♥️‼️ P.S…the lights are cool 😎!
It’s a very brilliant and complex a cappella cover (with some help of technical stuff)! Love it!! Anthony is always a great guest artist!! It did have a whole lot of stuff going on, but extremely amazing stuff!
The beginning and the end both feel like the chaos of getting caught in a black hole's pull. This is my new all time favorite! My brain continues to need to catch its breath everytime I listen. Love the reaction as always!
I remember when this song came out by Soundgarden. You should watch the original. I think this performance ranks up on top of the original. Geoff's ability to hit the low harmonics really gives this song the Royal Treatment!!!❤
QoFyReacts: I have to listen to this again. The rest of us: Same Man, I love that you got on top of this reaction so quickly; and you call out so many juicy bits that it informs my ears for hearing extras upon relistening.
Agree-if you haven’t seen a Qofy reaction to a Voiceplay song, get busy! Start with Hoist the Colours, because.. well, you’ll see. The reaction is so funny that other reactors reacted to it. Time for a reboot, Qofy. We all had a system crash first time through. In case anybody was wondering that high note of Anthony’s was an Eb5, I think (could be 6-someone correct me if so, as I have trouble matching voices to a keyboard up there or down around octave 1). As always, superb reaction, Qofy!!
Well Geoff is a Chris Cornell fan and Eli a gaming fan (Cyberpunk?) where the song has been used again. Also, Eli probably just loves a challenge 😉. Love your breakdowns and reaction thanks. VP is just the best. 🌹🕊
I think I figured out that my first exposure to this song was on Weird Al's Alternative Polka. VoicePlay's version is just stellar. Thank you for this. I'm a fan of VoicePlay and Home Free - as you are. I appreciate i!
Yeah. They've broken me more than once. It's hard to remember sometimes that it's a cappella, just digitally mixed in places. Their only exception to that is VioLayne.
I didn't know this song so went and found the original. Weird video. Creepy. This was much better, to listen to and to watch. :) same lineup as Seven Nation Army and it works so well. But then they always do.
This scrambled my brainwaves as well. Your reaction was my first exposure. I haven't seen the "official" version yet. Plus, I don't know the game, so I don't have that reference point. This piece is VERY highly produced with over tracks and effects. I'll have to give this a few listens to warm up to it. I LIKE it, but it's too complicated for a single take. Great breakdown, QoFy!
Personally, I like VoicePlay's version over SoundGarden's. I felt a great more variety and emotion in this from them. I especially loved Eli's energy - to the point where he even couldn't stay sitting at one point! In the original, the energy was more in the instruments than the voice. And Cesar's voice at the start was just gorgeous! One of my fave parts was the bit where they were singing 'black', 'hole', 'sun' as the background vocals - as if the words were 'ooo's or 'aah's. Kind of spattering along. Reminded me of raindrops, so cool with the rainy visual to go with the lyrics. As for the visuals - all the 'neon' reminded me of part of "BladeRunner" then add the rooftop setting to complete that idea of the CyberPunk ending of replicant Roy's 'death'. So cool! I admit that I'm not as fond of the distortion used on their voices, but really that is the part most true to the original, as there was a LOT of distortion on the bass in the instrumental section. After a few listens, I've gotten used to not hearing their voices as 'clear' and beautiful as usual. And now I really love how it gives us the sound from the instrumental part.
@@Gael4ce I meant the bass guitar in the original's use of distortion. Yes an inhale bass would be a very similar sound. However it is being done, VP is giving us that 'buzz' you get on SoundGarden's instrumental part.
I was honestly concerned you were going to tip over your chair during the first time through (not that I blame you, I about fell off my couch!)! I love this song (the original, although not the music video so much, too creepy), but I am so impressed by this version, I may even like it better!
The first time I heard this song, I thought the vocal effects on it were too much. It's certainly more than what they normally have. But the more I listen to it, the more it grows on me. it's still them; it's just different.
I thought the same, but it’s growing on me. I wasn’t familiar with the original and I decided just now to go check it out. And I can see why they did the vocal effects it’s very much in keeping with all the guitar going on in the original.
Sometimes it takes me a few views to really like some of their videos (and one I still hardly ever listen to). But this one I loved from the first couple of opening phrases. Guess I’m more rock than I thought.
Qofy, Black Hole Sun is a song by Soundgarden (Chris Cornell lead singer). You reacted on livestream. The video with the lady's reptile tongue snapping up a fly. Remember now 😂!
Also, while I can usually appreciate an acapella cover...I did not care for this one. The essence of the original did not come through at all. No disrespect meant 😊
Music appreciation is very personal. Dont apologize for being your own person. I didnt care for it at first either but I can appreciate what they did. It does grow on you after the 2nd listen as a separate piece.
Never heard this one before Voiceplay did it. I have to confess, rather than going to listen to the original for context after I heard it, I listened to Steve Lawrence and Edyie Gorme do it. Voiceplay is better, of course. Always appreciate your Voiceplay reactions!
It was written that way. :) "Regarding the song's lyrics, Cornell stated, "It's just sort of a surreal dreamscape, a weird, play-with-the-title kind of song." He also said that "lyrically it's probably the closest to me just playing with words for words' sake, of anything I've written. I guess it worked for a lot of people who heard it, but I have no idea how you'd begin to take that one literally." In another interview he elaborated further, stating, "It's funny because hits are usually sort of congruent, sort of an identifiable lyric idea, and that song pretty much had none. The chorus lyric is kind of beautiful and easy to remember. Other than that, I sure didn't have an understanding of it after I wrote it. I was just sucked in by the music and I was painting a picture with the lyrics. There was no real idea to get across."
