Black hole sun is actually a song by 90s rock LEGENDS soundgarden. You need to check out soundgarden, they were incredible.

Black Hole Sun was released in 1994 by Sound Garden and is not from any video game. Eli (with an assist from Layne) provided the arrangement. He also created the graphics in the background and built (with help from his wife and sister-in-law) the wall behind the group, and assembled/found the other set pieces. He directed the video as well. This was shot at Vu Studio Orlando, the same place as Valhalla Calling, but this time they had working air conditioning. The costumes for this video were the ones that Geoff originally ordered for Sleeping in the Cold Below. They arrived too late for that video shoot, so Geoff offered them to be used for this one. That first rumbling note from Geoff was a C#1.

This sound was originally sung by a 90s grunge group called soundgarden, (written and sung by the lead singer Chris Cornell RIP) the video for the original song had a creepy vibe to it. I grew up listening to soundgarden and black hole sun was my favorite song on the album. I absolutely love voiceplays version of this song. Thank you for the great reaction as always sending ❤️from the states.

Ah, the Eli trap worked. Huzzah.
And yeah, the effects are different but they are oh so fitting for the cyberpunk vibe they were after, really drives the point home. Not everyone will enjoy it but I love how much it really emerse you into that style.
And can i just say how great and wholesome the VoicePlay fandom is? Not a huge fan of the song? We still appreciate you giving VP a chance. Point out the skills and appreciate the craft while you do it? We love it.
It makes me think of a thing I heard about online creators. You want to know what kind of people they are? Look at their fan communities. Because that is the kind of environment they are making and supporting.
And honestly, I am proud to say I am part of this fandom.

Geoff turns into Smaug in this one! The dragonbreath/lion growl blows me away! Eli transcended the rock god hall of fame. Anthony ascended into the heavens. Cesar always brings in the vulnerability. And as always, Layne proves he is not a human, but a walking beatbox!

I completely respect your opinion. Not every track is going to blow everyone out of the water. But I love that you still appreciate and respect their talents and efforts. I personally quite enjoyed this one. Not their topest of tops, but I'd say top 1/3 ish. And for me, the distortion and effects they used were perfect for the song. But again, to each their own!
Love what you do, DJ. Keep it up, and stick to your own thoughts! Don't let anyone tell you what you think is wrong 💜

This song is so very different from Voiceplay's usual and you absolutely nailed that. It was arranged by Eli (they usually alternate between Geoff and Layne tracks so that is unusual already) and the distortion is also new-ish to them which changed SO much of what I personally love about Voiceplay.
I too would love to hear this performed live/without the distortion just for the contrast...
I don't know about others, DJ, but one thing I love about your reactions is hearing your honest opinions...the fact that this one isn't your favourite just means that the next one might be!

Great reaction as usual ! :)
When I first heard their version (first through the audio track), I was utterly stunned... And though it was pure musical genius for me, I also thought not everybody would like it because what they did sounds so unique and unusual. And it's perfectly OK. It's the whole point about taking risks and even making art. 🙂
Also... I totally get what you said about Eli's voice. 😌

I think if you listen to the original, you’ll get more context for why they used so much vocal distortion. The grunge guitar is the most iconic sound from the original version, and I think they really captured it perfectly! I can see why it might not be as appealing just only hearing their version on its own, but this is hands down one of my absolute favorites they’ve ever done. I had been wanting them to cover this song for years!

DJ, I know this song back from when my kids were teens. My son was into Grunge Rock, so I was familiar with it, and liked it very much! VP did their own thing with it, but I absolutely love it! There’s so much going on all of the time, but after hearing a bunch of times, I still hear new things here and there. Sadly, I don’t hear much credit given to Layne for his beatboxing, but it was awesome, as was everyone else. The one who stood out to me was Eli, being I’m a Rocker at heart. I love his Rocker voice! He really showed up for this one with that! Everyone else also did a phenomenal job! Geoff with his bass drop in the best places! (loved the quick distorted section when he dropped twice), and the first bass drop! Caesar and Anthony were brilliant! Loved your reaction. It was epic!!!

Ok, time for me to be an insufferable nerd. I'm sorry. 😅
Cyberpunk is a genre of science fiction. The game took its name from this genre, but the word and concept far predate the game. It is typically marked by a dark futurism, usually with conspicuous technology such as cybernetics, often with social commentary woven into the storylines. The movie Blade Runner is a great example of cyberpunk. (The original, not so much the sequel.)
The suffix -punk is used for a lot of sci-fi subgenres, so if you're not familiar with the word cyberpunk, you might recognize steampunk (Sci-fi mixed with Victorian or Old West elements, basically the future as imagined by Jules Verne).
"Cyberpunk" in this case is more referencing the genre, not specifically the game.
Thank you for coming to my TED talk. I'll show myself to the door.

This song came out my freshman year, mere months after Kurt Cobain's death. Everyone interpreted the lyrics differently... my stoner friends especially! I love their take on it. It gives a nod to the original with the electronic sounds. It's totally okay that you didn't like them, but for me, it made me smile with nostalgia.Especially Geoff's electric guitar. My neighbor had a garage band and played that solo ALL THE FREAKING TIME. He never sounded as good as Geoff. ❤

Cyberpunk was originally a subgenre of science fiction literature, but over time it acquired specific conventions with regard to visual aesthetic as well. Cyberpunk is consistently urban, set in the future, usually with a strong emphasis on virtual environments, and frequently features architectural designs that would be impossible in real life (e.g., levitating buildings). It tends to combine bright colors with very dark shadows and backgrounds, and cybernetics and robotics are commonly featured. Minecraft players who build with a cyberpunk theme tend to do so in the End dimension. Cyberpunk environments tend to be devoid of natural flora and fauna but may sometimes include other natural features (e.g., planetary rings) and tend to feature artificially-constructed topography with a lot of sharp angles in nice round multiples of 15 degrees, _especially_ right angles. Cyberpunk environments are often depicted as heavily commercial, with enough gaudy neon signs to make Tokyo's red-light district look tame.
I think the song was an "Alternative" song (remember when that was a specific genre?), in the mid-to-late nineties; I don't normally listen to the polka track that Weird Al puts on each of his albums, because I don't like polka; but Bad Hair Day was the first Weird Al CD that I owned, and so I didn't know better yet, and thus the Alternative Polka is how I first became familiar with this song. It isn't a song that I will ever care about, but VoicePlay did a good job with it.

I'm pretty sure this is just a theme for the song. I'm pretty sure it isnt in Cyberpunk 2077. This song was a staple on MTV when it came out and was popular enough to be made fun of on Beavis and Butthead. The video used the morphing effect and was kind of freaky. I really like the part where they all come together in chorus for the I kneel to pray part.

This arrangement from Eli and Layne is very odd but it works. It reminds me of a song from the 70’s - the name of that song is on the tip of my tongue and I CAN’T think of the name!!! Cross that song with the imagery from the Capital in the Hunger Games. That is what I was imagining when I first heard this song and then watched the video- odd but it works and I like it. It just seems different than most other Voiceplay songs.

I reacted a lot like you to this one -a bit confused. I don’t usually like, let alone listen, to this kind of music. I’m not crazy about all the distortion. I miss their voices. HOWEVER it really fits with the mood and keeps growing on me. It reminds me of an old movie Blade Runner for some reason. I don’t remember the music (I barely remember the movie) but that is the vibe I get. I keep listening to it and keep hearing new things.
I changed the setting on my headphones (or maybe I was just paying more attention😊) and heard a new sound. About 6:25 (in your video) there is this little quacking sound in my left ear. Just a random baby duck quacking😂 just after Cesar is singing “won’t you come”.
I love the end when Layne just sucks all the sound out. Maybe that is how he comes up with all those sound innovations of his.
While this will never be a favorite of mine, it is certainly compelling. And who knows - I keep coming back to it. Maybe it’ll become a favorite after all!

You'd think if they were to change Geoff's voice into a guitar, they'd at LEAST make it a bass guitar! I tend to agree with you, this is about a 7.5 on a scale of 1-10, 10 being "Valhalla Calling," my favorite. "Hoist The Colors" is a 10 as well. And it's not really Voiceplay's fault, this song (the original) has just never resonated with me. I don't hate it or anything, it's just not a song I would put on my playlist. Voiceplay's version is. See, I don't by any means dislike this version, I think it's cool and very interesting and as usual the background and makeup are awesome, as are the vocals. So, Voiceplay doesn't drop below a 7 for me. Like, ever. 😊💙

If it has been too long, sounds like you need two VP days a week ;) (completely altruistic and non-selfish suggestion here)

Interesting that you say ‘creepy’. I watched another reactor who felt it wasn’t creepy enough. SoundGarden’s original video had a decidedly creepy feel to it.
I don’t think they were going for the video game here, but more the cyberpunk literary genre. I could be wrong of course, but I get distinctly ‘BladeRunner’ vibes from the background image. Looks a lot like all the neon in the marketplace scene. And combined with the idea of a rainy rooftop? Matches up just too well for me as a cross between the death scene for the replicant character and the marketplace.

Forgot to add - part of the distortion is not just conceptual to go with cyberpunk. The original has a very buzzy distorted guitar part that they honored wonderfully here. I too love their clean voices but they really hit that sound on the nose. And if I’m honest that guitar was for me the best part of the original - no matter how much Geoff wanted to sing like Chris Cornell in high school.

This is rather mild. The original video by Soundgarden is really freaky. Think of Anthony as the jewel of VP; that should help you remember how to pronounce his last name. I have that same Carrot-cature t-shirt that I got to wear to a Home Free concert a couple weeks ago. After ragging me about it a bit the guys just laughed.

This one threw me off a bit at first because it’s been processed to the point of not sounding like acapella anymore. BUT if you listen to the original and consider the Cyber Punk theme then the artistic choices make sense. I do really like it for something different from them but not my favorite. 😅

Personally this is one of there songs I'm not a fan of. I'm not sure if it's the song itself or the arrangement but it just dosent click for me. Specifically the first half. But great reaction and voiceplay is still my top group either way

This was a song by Soundgarden in 1995? The lead singer Chris Cornell killed himself in 2017. People are very protective of his legacy. So voiceplay covering this was risky. Most people thought it was great. Some, like yourself, found it way too different to be a hit

This is that rare VoicePlay song that I just don't like, and haven't grown to like more with repeat listens. The lyrics are too incoherent and the effects are too heavy-handed. It has some lovely moments and I certainly don't fault Eli's arrangement or the performance, and I love the costumes. It just isn't very listenable as a whole.
