You took lots of paths to accomplish it that I wouldn't have done, however...end result is a fabulous looking guitar. P90s are completely underrated pickups. Redwood and cream pickups are great combo. I built a Tele and strat in all redwood (two sets of figured redwood for back and top, and Home Depot level redwood for the center). It dings like crazy even under heavy boat-epoxied covered in automotive finish. I cringed with the routing of the top to body as I have ripped chunks of redwood off with less lumber overhang. Glad you did not experience that. Great video. Cheers
Well done! This is absolutely gorgeous. My uncle has a 1983 Roadstar RS1000 that I've always loved. Beautiful top and I love that body shape. I didn't really know too much about the Blazer, but it's got that same cool body shape as the RS1000, and a fixed bridge (which I prefer). I may have to keep an eye out for one of these and attempt something similar. Thanks for sharing!
You made this look like a roadstar 2, minus the trem. I bought one recently. 1982 model with a sunburst flame top. Went in my local shop for strings, spotted it, played it, loved it and secured it
It really did turn out fantastic! It's awesome you share your hiccups in the process, much respect. The second you started cutting the scrap redwood for the back cavity cover i was sold lol!! Look forward to seeing future projects. Im here for it all! Thanks for all the hard work cheers!!
Totally would! I've actually ordered something for this, not that the Tones Forge one isn't good (it's great) but I think the new one suits the style much more
I always thought the cavities for pickups and toggle switch should be cut out first before gluing the top in place ... but you did a great job. Nicely done. 😀" If you look at it the wrong way the top scratches" (lol.)
Awesome job man.. !! love these vids of saving guitars from being firewood.. I played a Blazer of old.. beat up ash body.. nice little guitar but certainly not collectors dream.. the bridge on the one i played was corroded badly from sitting in a barn for 20 years.. grub screws would have needed to be drilled and replaced.. they did not move.. action was OK however.. the top looks amazing.. Mrs Giant was correct.. HB all the way.. lol..
Thanks for the kind words bud 🙏 I appreciate it! Your Blazer sounds amazing nonetheless, this is my second one and I'll definitely have more if the opportunity presents itself to me 😁
I've been with you almost from the start on this build LOL 😀 I have really enjoyed it too. Man it looks INCREDIBLE. Wow that's really really nice man. Bravo! 😎
Yeah, I'm a big Ibanez fan so I got a bit twitchy when you started to describe the project, but hey, it's your guitar and it's hardly in mint-in-case collector's condition is it? What the hey, go for it! And as it turns out, it's pretty darned cool when all is said and done. :D If you did decide to put a humbucker in it, Guitar Fetish makes a series of soapbar-sized mini-humbuckers in a couple of different output levels that would be a drop-in fit.
Good to know! Is there any secret method?? I have a wooden pickguard I'm making and soaking with resin right now so would be handy to know, cheers bud 🙏
@@Giant_Guitars the higher the relative humidity (%RH) the longer resins will take to dry! if the weather is wet it can take significantly longer, so give it as long as it needs or invest in a dehumidifier for your drying room!
@@Giant_Guitars yeah man! That’s what it’s all about! I’m looking to do a tele build and watching your vids gets me inspired! You clearly know what you’re doing! my build will look a lot more janky, and there will be blood and injuries and a whole lot more swearing 😂
Hey, is there any chance (if you still have it) that you would trace pickguard from Ibanez Blazer? I just got 40 years old body for it which was never used but also it is just wood, it doesn't have any old hardware. I am intend to build some custom from this body but it's hard to find pickguard replacement.

No.. Let's be Honest.. You've made an excellent job of that.. But ya.. I'm one of those Original Relic road worn 1980s Guitar guys.. I've chopped a Matching Engine and frame Triumph Daytona before so.. Who am I to open my pie hole. But ya.. I'd have left it and picked another guitar for this project..
Thank you 🙏 I appreciate it! And yeah I totally get the want to keep things original and I think for me it takes a moment of madness to do something like this, generally those moments of madness come over me quite a lot 🤣
30:20 as a guitar builder, I really cant ask my wife cause she always picks out one of my favorite things as why she thinks it looks like santa claus or some random childish thing, lol😊
@@Giant_Guitars It's just a personal thing for me when I mod a cheaper guitar. I just think it looks super clean. It depends on the decal too, I just don't like the Ibanez logo. The Fender logo, however, looks awesome to me.
Hey bro, at 7.44 when you started applying "the glue" , some very strange "music" came on. It was very GAY music. I just checked the oxford dictionary and the old fashioned meaning of the word "gay" used to mean "happy and full of fun" or "brightly coloured". Your choice of "music" sounded like the other meaning of the word "gay". You would think in this day and age that putting a new top on a guitar would be an asexual accomplishment, accompanied by someone-possibly you -playing some awesome guitar(this being a video about guitar and all). But no.I just hope you allowed your instagram girlfriend to choose the music. If it was you or your "male friend editor" that chose the music then I certainly won't be subscribing. I love strat style blazers, cimars, and roadstars, but "music" like that gives them all a bad name.....
Ι never liked all that plastic on Strat tops, natural wood with transparent finish looks so much better. The Ibanez headstock looks really beautiful to me too, much better than that of Fender. I would be tempted to put a neck pickup and a tone control, but i admit that it looks better as a single pickup guitar with just one volume control. Nothing in the way of Rock I guess.
A couple of points, you said your bandsaw sucks but you have the guide bearing way too high for the thickness of the material you’re cutting. This allows the blade to wander a lot. You used wood glue to glue in the magnets for the control cavity cover. Wood glue does not bond to metal so these magnets will fall off. You should have used CA glue here. Nice guitar though man.

this build is epic, you own a lot of clamps. i was looking trough your channel and you've done a bunch of cool stuff. keep up the good work
Thanks Kade! I appreciate that, really 😊🙏 also never enough clamps! I probably need more lol
You can never own too many clamps.
I loved playing my Ibanez Blazer. The only down side was that it was HEAVY. When I spun around with it, I sprained my back!
Ooff, thankfully this one isn't too bad
