Scratch built neck, and maybe save the LTD neck for another scratch built body. Like if there is just a silly shape ya wanna try but don't wanna get too precious about, use the LTD neck for that.
Kind of want to see the LTD body stripped and redone with the original neck on it (could be a future project). You should definitely build a neck for the new body and just make it a completely custom guitar. Can't wait to see what you decide to do next.
It’s such a beautiful body, that you made all on your own. You may as well do the neck too. That way it’s all your own creation. And you can customise your neck 100 percent to your liking.
Looking great! Really liked how you rounded the curves off and the timber selection is beautiful. Regarding the blemish on the back you mentioned about, have a look at where the fender style jack plates are mounted on the rear of the Charvel Pro Mod Dk guitars, that may help with a possible solution? It's easy to say just build a neck, but what do you have to build one? There are other options available as well, but you do need a nice neck to go with that body. What ever you decide, take your time, it may save you in the long run.
Thanks mate, I have some plain maple I got from my in-laws over in Czechia but that's about it for a neck so I will probably buy something for this one. I'll look into that Charvel jack placement thanks!
Custom neck, of course. With full blown jaguar/jazzmaster type head. Personally I like telecaster head but only on telecaster. As for colour it's personal preference, I would choose some kind of orange (because I like orange) or faded dark red.
Build your own one-piece maple neck but give it big JM / Strat style headstock. Body finish most definitely a solid color from Fender 50s/60s models. Champagne pink comes to mind. Try Nitorlack nitro finish - it's fantastic stuff.
I'd reassemble the LTD and sell it or keep it as is. Build the neck to go with it. Not sure about finish. I think a traditional burst would look great but so would a colour. If you want to accentuate the darker parts on the edges, an even colour across the top may be best.
Build a neck! The Meteora is such a cool design, recently I've found myself obsessed with Fender Offset shapes. I wish I had the ability to make bodies but I don't currently, I recently converted a 70's Japanese Jazz bass copy into a guitar and I love how it turned out it's cool seeing the big offset body as a guitar. Now I want to replicate it and build a nicer one but of course no one sells anything like that so I'm stuck finding another bass to convert or waiting till I can make bodies myself. Your video was super helpful at showing the process!
Your bass project sounds amazing and thank you for your comment mate 🙏 good luck with it and I hope you can build your own body some day to suit this project!
@Giant_Guitars thank you, I love your channel and your videos are super helpful and just enjoyable to watch. And I like seeing single humbucker guitars haha
That amazing top deserves a nice custom built birdseye or equivalent neck. You can make it the first Meteora with a flamed sycamore top and a reverse headstock tele neck!
I think...... complete the Meteora project, in honeyburst, using the LTD neck, then if you like the shape and handling, then make a custom neck for the Meteora body, and save the LTD neck for that incredible tele shap guitar that you build next!
Threw a like just because of your DIY alternative to sash clamps - I have filed that away for future use. And my $0.02 - you've come this far - build a neck. I so love when an initial idea goes totally sideways - yet seems so right.
Thank you mate! Yeah I have a lot of 2x1 left from building this shed so figured I'd put them to use with a little DIY clamping system, glad it was of use to you!
This build deserves a custom neck, you've done a great job so far! I'd try Sienna burst on this one, it's different and would fit very well IMO. Can't wait to watch the next episode, good luck from France!
I think if you go for the ESP neck at first, you'll be either satisfied with it or will learn more about what kind of neck you'd want to scratch build.
I would strip the body of the LTD and refinish it how you like and put it back together. Strip the back of the neck too, I always sand the back of my necks. It's probably a good guitar. If you don't want it, I would love to have it.
I vote custom neck. The LTD you can do something with later. As for colour, yes, some sort of two tone burst would look amazing. Also, great video - really enjoy your videos. May well encourage me to take the step from just setups to actually having a go at assembling something. Keep up the great work!
Good to see you back! 👍🏻👊🏻 I’ll never understand this relic-ing thing, I like my guitars shiny and new. Unless, they’re Vintage or earned it from honest use.
As much as I'd love to see the videos of your legal defence against Fender and ESP, I think you gotta build the neck. Regarding colour, I'd say go natural but I'd also keep the bark blemish intact. That's real, natural relicing. Great video again. As always.
Scratch built neck seems the better option. Possibly a weird suggestion, but I think the headstock design from the prototype 'Fender Axion' guitar that never made it to production would work really well with the Meteora shape.
Build a neck also..yup.. would make a good video..great content...i vote for a blue stain job..a blue burst in the middle with a fade to black around the edges 😊 ..like stain it black first..then sand it back leaving some more blank areas in the middle for the blue...but leaving some black around the edges...
Of course at this point you have to build your own neck. I get that you haven't done it, but I have faith in your skills. Also, all the best guitars are red. I'd go translucent cherry burst.
Crazy idea. Put the LTD neck back on the LTD body and then sell it for what you paid for it. Get some purple stain for that Meteora. Alnico II humbuckers FTW!
2. Build a custom neck. Color: some kind of burst, but not traditional red/brown to yellow. Something else. Dark green or blue or copper (or whatever) to the same color but a lighter version. The tear out: create a custom output jack here, like a strat output but placed inlaid on the side of the body.
I think I'm stealing your idea for the jack thanks very much for that bud! And yeah a green or blue or something a little wild may be the play here too!
In my opinion, you already went the extra mile and build your own body, so building a neck for it just seems right... Also would be very interesting seeing you installing a trustrod, frets and all that. But whatever you choose I'm sure will turn out to be an outstanding guitar. Regarding the color, about a year ago you did a purple burst test on a strat style body that turned out amazing! That would also be cool! Great video as always, love your channel!
@@Giant_GuitarsWould you do a more reddish purple or bluish-indigo purple? I personally like indigo more, but I'm happy to see whatever colour you end up choosing. Also, has anyone ever done a transparent burst finish combined with soarkle/glitter with a flamed top?
How much did the body weigh when you were finished? I made a body out of American Ash with close grain structure like the piece of wood you have and it weighed a ton - well slight exaggeration, 3.5kg (40mm thick body) which is about 1.4kg heavier than ideally it should be.
I love the body, it's really beautiful, it could really do with a neck made to it. For the color you could do soething in the type of the ibanez blue moon burst (RG470AHM is a good reference of that finish)
where'd you get your neck template from?? building a tele and having trouble finding a tele neck template ! Ps: you should definitely make a custom neck :)
Go for the complete build! You have already put so much work into that body I think it deserves a neck of matching quality. You mentioned in the video that you got the ash slab in an auction. Where/which is that? Im used to buying guitar blanks of ebay for ridiculously high prices just because they are "guitar blanks" rather than slabs of wood.
It's a local auction in a town called Bangor, in county down. I don't know where you are, for some reason I'm guessing mainland UK? But anyway check out the website Easy Live Auctions if you are UK you might find a local one to you. I am lucky that a number of the northern Irish auctions have slabs, they're usually close to scrap but you can salvage some decent pieces too!
I'd go with the LTD neck, would definitely want to see you make a neck from scratch though (In another video maybe?). Also that would definitely deserves some kind of a natural finish, it looks so good.
@@Giant_Guitars Seconding the Natural finish, would really pop! Maybe tidy up the LTD neck if you like it? A new neck of its own would be nice to see aswell! I reckon whatever you decide will work nicely in the end
