I agree! The Roland DJ 707M is a great controller! I have had mine for about a year and it’s well built to last. One thing that no one talks about is that you can use the second USB port for perfect sound to your smart phone for live streaming!!! Highly recommend it 👍🏼
I was literally thinking about buying new Controller, like 5 minutes ago, and now I see this video =) (btw, i've bought two controllers earlier that fits my budget and needs, all thanks to your videos). Thanks, and greetings from Bosnia&Herzegovina !!
Mixars Primo - often overlooked and most people haven't even heard of it. Additional inputs - Phono / line on either channel. TRS or XLR mic. Additional aux. Outputs - TRS booth. XLR and RCA master. Independent volume, eq and echo for the mic / aux + independent sampler volume. 6.4 & 3.5mm headphone outs. 100mm pitch sliders. Decent size jog wheels. Needle strip. Independent fx parameter controls per deck / effect. Cross fader curve and reverse controls. Cue / master mixer and split cue control. Built-in hardware echo, filter, noise and crush effects with independent control per channel. Plus all of the other controls you'd expect for looping, censor, reverse etc. etc. The built-in soundcard is also pretty impressive at this price point. Unlocks Serato Pro (I personally use VirtualDJ though) Only real short coming is that it's only a 2-channel output which you'd have to share between the 4-decks / phono inputs if you needed them but the separate mic / aux and sampler volume controls offset that a little. Also the jog wheels are a bit heavy and have too high a resistance if you're someone who likes doing backspins. Comes in at the bottom of this price range. I was considering all of these when I came across the Primo and pound for pound it outweighed all of them for what I wanted. In fact I've just checked and Bax are currently offering it for £312 which is a steal.
I was sceptical being a pioneer fan in general as a club DJ but I needed something at home to use without needing loads of room and breaking the bank..... I bought a Primo and it is really, really good for the price you get loads and it's really responsive, I would have preferred stiffer pitch faders like Technics but they are accurate enough. In all best controller on the market I reckon under £700. The cheaper pioneers are more like toys and that flx6 is over priced.
I own the Roland DJ-707M and must admit it is the most compact complete controller by miles. Personally I like it more than my Prime 2 which is saying plenty.
One controller I feel needs a mention is the mixars primo, it has all the outputs and inputs, decent jog wheel, long pitch faders and mega loud output with excellent sound quality. It's well featured and has a great price tag..... I bought one and love it.
The number 3 is my number 1 because it has to be. Traktor is bad, Serato doesn't do it for me so the DDJ-800 was the only choice. Are the effects hardware? I thought they only worked if plugged into a computer, although its been a while since I tried that.
Great review as always. None of those get my juices flowing. Reckon next week will be the Pioneer vs Denon big fight. I'll be drooling over those. Can't wait!
So much hate for the flx6. In Australia it cost 750 (560 us). The ddj800 costs 1800 (1350 us). Of course u can play it out, so long as you have a case. And the rca's can be easily converted for a dollar or two. If u don't like merge and jog cutter don't use them
I think that DJs slept that Traktor controller. I have made a ton of money with it and the moving Jog wheel are fantastic. I think people buy the Rane One because it’s RANE
i’m looking to get my first controller and i know how to dj a good level but don’t know what to get i was initially thinking to get the flx6gt but realised its got unbalanced audio and doesn’t have xlr ports so what do i get around the same budget or so?
Whats the sound output like on the ddj800? I've got the ddj400 and the sound quality is quite poor having to crank my amps volume very high. I'm wanting to upgrade to either the ddj800 or ddj1000 but worry the sound quality will be poor.
The DDJ 1000 is really good my friend had one for a bit and it is good loud sound. I've just bought a Mixars Primo for under £300 new and in my opinion it is the best controller you can get under £700. It is super loud I've had to turn everything down on the speakers to enable me to bring up the levels in the controller.
@@DJ_PHILCO79 I don't really want loads of stuff just yet as only just started to learn a few weeks but do want decent sound, spoken to some other people who think the sound card in the ddj400 is very poor so wondering if the ddj800 or ddj1000 have a better sound card
The problem with sound quality is that besides the facts about soundcards and component quality it's highly subjective, if you're this worried the best thing to do is test them in person as little else is likely to convince you
Phil, could you please explain some of the downsides of The Roland DJ 707M? Based on the reviews I have watched I consider this controller my favorite to buy, however I would like to have a clear picture about it. Cheers
Thank you for the great video. I have been producing music for the past 2 years and I now want to DJ. As I'm a beginner I thought that I would spend my money on something more professional than entry-level ones so that I wouldn't really need to upgrade in the future and be able to use more functions as I learn. Is this the way to go or should I definitely buy a beginner one such as Hercules Inpulse 500?
Our view is that a decent beginner controller is the best choice, as this means your next "pro" choice will be a more informed decision. Any DJ should always have a backup system anyway, so your first controller becomes that!
so many options on controllers are not necessary to the average dj. And a pro Dj can do more with less every time so I say buy what you need for options and nothing more. I personally have never used a mic while spinning, who has the time for that when your going off! But I am an underground type, not the wedding dj type lol
Hi Phil, You refer to the s4 mk3 as the pinnacle of the traktor controllers but what about the s8? Is that not the pinnacle traktor controller? Or do you mean "the pinnacle at this price point"? thanks
We do not rate that contrólele it has no jogwheels and didn’t really do very well it’s okay for some people but not really for most, plus not made any more

I Have a traktor S8. I'm trying to figure out what to do with it. I'd like to have Rane Mk 2 or job Wheels. Not enough info to answer definitively. Roland DJ-707M is good if you want to go Serato, for Rekordbox, nothing is at this budget - next up is FLX10.
