    7:07 the crossfader does not make the track 50% volume when in the middle, but it keeps both tracks at 100%, resulting in an equal mix. The track only goes to 50% volume when you drag the crossfader to 75% away.

      Ive got a question though. Crossfader 75% away is 50% of volume but for other deck is it still 100% or 150%? I guess in the middle are both at 100% but if you go one way, it only lowers the one you are going towards and keeps the other one at 100%? BTw nice video great stuff really I am looking into buying my first controller and getting info first.

    As a DJ, your job is to "Move the Crowd". If a sync button makes that easier, then use it. This isn't a dick measuring contest. You're here to inspire people to dance.

      However, people are getting smarter even it's not their thing.. They know well if you're a good mixing dj or not.. They're entertained in you mixing even with mistakes, miss beat matching and they don't like you cheating on them using Sync. Some don't actually dance just because you're good at mixing, they're dancing because they having fun know their DJ actually mixing without using Sync and for people like me, I'm most interested when a person miss beat matching.. It takes you back when mixing is not simpler as can be during the 80s and 90s.

    • @AllDayHockey
      @AllDayHockey 3 ปีที่แล้ว +55

      @@reyzuna I think you are over compensating for people in most clubs, who are most likely high/drunk and the only think they care about is if the music is moving them or not. But fair enough im sure there are people out there that do pay attention to the mix quality but mostly it will be people who are also into mixing themselves, so probably a small percentage.

      My Hero.... I love your comment.... I sync if needed... I make sure I'm entertaining my crowd, that's first priority.. what's the point of being an excellent mixer with a wack selection... Rather have a dope selection and a wack mixing skill... And people will still enjoy.... Just entertain us.

    *Something to consider when reaching for the sync button...*
    There's definitely a stigma surrounding the use of the sync button (especially from old school DJ's who've been kicking since before digital DJ software) and the general consensus seems to be that DJ's who use the sync button are "cheating". By not manually beat-matching their tracks, they're taking a massive shortcut that makes them the equivalent of a human jukebox, which will make (as stated at 10:43) every other DJ hate you
    This thought process is shallow and outdated.
    When someone sets out to learn how to DJ, a lot of the times they're seeking out technical knowledge, learning what all the knobs and faders do so they can start mixing by themselves. But aside from the technical knowledge, part of the process of learning to DJ is learning to perform. Reading crowds, tailoring track selection and being able to play a dynamic set is another part of the DJing process that has to be learnt. Phrasing, energy, musical structureand effects are all other important aspect of DJing that require just as much attention as your transitions. If using the sync function to make your transitions a bit smoother so that you can focus on another aspect of your performance helps, then absolutely go for it.
    DJ's who flex on other DJ's who use sync might have all the technical prowess in the world and be able to beat-match Dancehall with Psytrance, but if their set is *boring*, then they're the ones who should step back and assess their skills. If you use the sync button, and what's playing sounds good, and you dance, and the world doesn't end, *don't* feel pressured to stop using it anytime soon. There's no shame in using a little tech magic if it helps you to sound better.

    Thank you for the lesson! Some of us "boomers" who DJed in 1997-2004 miss the time before CD tables when everything was vinyl and turntables and there were no aids to beat match, no tempo tap, no bpm counter, just your ears. BUT I decided this year that I miss DJing enough to break down and buy digital DJ controllers, I also have my technics 1200 mkII attached so I can use vinyl too. It is amazing all the things that the new technology can do and the transition isn't that difficult. Most of us aren't pissed just nostalgic

      nice one, DJ'd a wedding on my ddj200 with a balanced usb mixer and a $50nz laptop(with ssd drive) was flawless minus the request harassment.
      not sure on my next controller, have seen the ddj-rb for $200nz, but am thinking might save and stick with the 200 for awhile, it does what I need it to do(after some extensive midi remaping)

    I've always had an interest on learning how to DJ way back 2015 but I never had anyone teach me. Equipment that time was expensive as well, so I only used a keyboard and a cracked DJ software (Traktor) to practice basic intros and outros shown in the video. It was just a hobby of mine that time. A friend of mine said that for someone without an equipment, I was doing pretty good. But I had to stop since I thought I wouldn't be able to jumpstart that career. After watching your tutorial, it brought me back to those days and it inspired me to learn more about being a DJ. I might actually go back and invest in an equipment this time. I learned a lot with this video, and I'll be watching your other video tutorials. Thank you so much.

    Thank you for making this and offering the free tracks to practice. Now I know why they call it a controller; feels like your playing a video game. Hitting the buttons, sliders and knobs all at the right time while looking at the screen and hearing the beat. You dumbed it down but that's how you learn! It's fun! Thanks!🎼

    What's even crazier is that Virtual DJ will sync your beats up automatically which lots of us old timers that used to mix vinyl call cheating but you'll spend an additional $200 on something you do on Virtual DJ for free. Save your money, cheat and invest in better music and sound system. No one will care, they'll be too drunk or looking at their phone all night. Actually thank you Carlo, this has been the best tutorial I've seen on controllers because a lot of other videos think that people know certain info and don't break it down like this.

    I’m a total noob but I’ve always been intrigued about DJing especially in deep house music but kinda intimidated by all the buttons and knobs 😅😅😅. After watching your tutorial, I’ve gained the confidence to dive into the DJing world. Thanks a lot and I hope you continue to enjoy and be successful in your career.
