The base mold is made of fiberglass and has Tooling Gel Coat on it. Tooling Gel coat is made to withstand the repeated heating when making parts more then just regular Gel coat. Then there is 12 coats of Honey Mold Release Wax to keep the Gel coat on the seat from sticking to the Tooling Gel.

what is the base made off? the zeroth layer on which you apply resin initially and then add up the fiber glass layers
