Hi. I have followed the steps and replaced the filter in my Legacy. It is still not running right. This could be for a completely unrelated issue as I bought the car from an auction recently. Can you please tell me if there is a priming procedure that you need to follow after you have completed the replacement?
Did you add fuel before starting the vehicle after replacement? Asking, because prior to pump removal you were around 5/8 of a tank. After replacement you were at 7/8. Wondering if the sending unit was misbehaving. Great video, by the way. Dealing with this issue right now on my wife's Crosstrek.
I disconnected the starter motor, grabbed a oil drainer container, put the fuel hose in wrapped the end of it in a rag to stop it from spraying everywhere and kept turning the car over, the fuel will continue to come out, obviously not an ideal way js works for me
do you have one for replacing the fuel level sensor (sending unit) or a fix for it thanks and good video. oh yea its a 05 MT Legacy 2.5L Limited NON turbo
Turns out sun/moon roof had a leaking seal and all the wet caused it to throw codes. After drying it out and re - setting , clearing , check engine light everything came back on and fuel gauge works fine now
My 2012 Forester Limited has a center fold up square in the center unlike the one in the video. I found the center "clip" and yet when I pull upward on the seat, it wont budge? What am I missing?
My car doesn’t start due to the fuel pump. I need to replace it which I’ll be using your video. Do you only have to replace the gasket or the entire fuel pump?
That tool can remove your fuel lines, cooling lines to your radiator, as well as a few others. You can buy a plastic or metal one, I’ve used mine on multiple repairs, it is not a useless one application tool
I wasted 15 bucks buying the hand tool when I didn't even need it.. The fuel lines have little tabs ya just squeeze with ya fingers to disconnect. No tool needed.
Kaden Watt how do you know that? I have a 2010 Impreza at just about the same mileage as the one in the video. I just got towed home because the fuel pump is done so knowing that info is true will be beneficial when I get to replacing mine.
Thanks for this. There was a recall on my 19 OB. It is going in for a new fuel pump next week. Wanted to see what was involved, and what the dealer would be doing. I don't trust them one bit so want to know what to check on after the work was done. Hope my interior doesn't smell to bad of gas once this is completed.
You mentioned draining the gas, what's the best way to go about doing that. I'm trying to remove some 8 year old gas but this method looks complicated. Is there an easy way to access the old fuel?
In my legacy the Fuel pump connector burnt, is a common problem, so if you go far from home be sure to have some tools or better change the Fuel pump connector before
Helps knowing what to do.. I'm swapping out the stock pump to an areomotive 380 gpm. In the process of making mine a tarmac assullt vehicle. Video coming soon up on my page. Thanks again for the info sir.
hey im having a hard time finding the latch system for removing the seat on my 2010 Forester is there something different about that year or am i not looking hard enough and im also wondering what year subaru started with the hatch under the seat for the fuel pumps. i saw another video where a guy removed the whole tank>
Hi, last week my fuel pump failed as a result I search for a second hand fuel pump and changed it. What I am facing right now is once going mountain like a straight forward uphill keep pressing the fuel pedal on second gear or third my rpm once it is over 4 there will be a cut off as if you are not pressing the gas pedal anymore . I need your help or any solution.thank you. My Impreza is 2004 manual transmission
The one part I watched this video for and the reason he took the fuel pump for is not shown? REPLACE THE FUEL FILTER... Does anyone have another video that shows this?
I have an 09 Impreza. I just put a new used motor in it. It hesitates sometimes under throttle.. is that what was happening in your situation?? My car sat for a year and a half without being used... I think Its either the pump or the injectors cause the motor is great..just curious great video..
Thanks for the video. I am trying to do this on a 2010 Impreza. Couple of quick questions. 1. You don't mention the torques specs. When you reinsert the fuel pump, do you have to compress or push it down? After I took mine off when I tried to replace the pump it seemed like the pump was taller than when I took it out. Do I just have to tighten the screws to get the pump to fully seat? BTW someone suggested using a fuel resistant gasket sealer. I would not use it again. It never seems to dry or skim over. It got over everything. I am looking to replace the fuel pump now cause the permatex sealer got over everything. Oh well. I am waiting on whether or not it is normal for the pump to kind of stick out and if I just have to tighten the nuts to get it to seat. Thanks for any help.
Man, I broke two fuel assy mounting studs by trying to remove the eight bolts (hit it with PB blaster for few hours before, bolts were quite rusted patiently and slowly trying to turn the nuts without applying to0 much force). Studs in the 12 o'clock and 7 o'clock sheared right off. Still some nuts I could not remove (11, 8 and 6 o'clock). Now I can't remove the assy to replace fuel filter and gasket seal. And I'm afaid to tighten it back up as is and break more studs. Left it overnight with more PB-blaster. Don't know how to get out of this mess without having a new fuel tank installed (1800$ canadian). I'm quite pissed. 2008 Impreza 2.5i with 62000 miles. Timing belt, tensionner, pulleys, spark plugs, coolant just replaced 300 miles ago.
Not one comment on how moronic it is to have a service item located in the fuel tank? Nice video though. Helped me change out a bad fuel pump so I appreciate the effort. No service tool on the gas lines for me in this case. Just clipped the old ones. This is on a 2010 Forester I bought for my non mechanically inclined son. Love where they put the oil filter also. Will never buy a Subaru after this experience.
Where did they put the oil filter. My 2014 is right on top easy peasy. Heck you could stuck the oil out from the dipstick if you didn't want to get under the car.
@Doosterify Same question. A video on that would be helpful. I'm looking around, trying to figure out what tool will help the electric fuel pump slide out.
I may have the raw footage backed up somewhere and I forward to you. I figured most people wouldn't want to watch me rotate and slowly remove the pump for 30 seconds. I appreciate the feedback.
sorry video, so what did you replace. the fuel pump or the fuel pump assemblyy. you are missing a lot of info. when did you remove the fuel pump. this video is horrible. only people that dont know how to work on cars will think this video is great.
@@elmeradams8781 It's one assembly yes but the fuel pump itself is located inside that assembly. You don't need to spend $400 on the entire assembly if your just replacing the pump.
I didn't know you could just buy the pump. I thought it only came as an assembly. I ended up testing the fuel pressure (was just fine). It ended up being a clogged cat. I replaced all 3 cats (California edition) it cost a lot more then $400. But the car has lots of power now.
Open the gas cap up on the car and then the pressure inside the tank will go down and it might not leak out great video by the way
Great video! I swapped out my fuel pump following your step-by-step video -- my 2012 Forester is running smooth again!
Very helpful. The only thing I would add is to remove the gas cap. The fuel coming from the pump might be a little pressure built up in the tank.
Good suggestion! 👌🏽
brilliant
Question, do u have to prime it after it is installed?

Top notch video mate!
You can also modify the cap from a sharpie marker as fuel line removal tool.
Good tip!
Youre my hero today. I live 30 miles from civilization this just saved me hours and days of waiting and voyaging to acquire one
What year is the Subaru on the video?
Do u have any videos or n the fuel sending unit mine is leaking help ??
Looking to drain the fuel tank. What method would you recommend? Thanks
do you know how to drain gas from the tank without driving if I have more than 2/3 in the tank?
I disconnected the starter motor, grabbed a oil drainer container, put the fuel hose in wrapped the end of it in a rag to stop it from spraying everywhere and kept turning the car over, the fuel will continue to come out, obviously not an ideal way js works for me
I need to do this to my vehicle but time are tough af. Wish I had a nice man like you around hahaha
Hey, is priming the new fuel pump not required? I’m not a mechanic, but it seems like not doing so would push air through the fuel system?
What is the similar looking opening on the drivers side? Is this a 2nd filter/pump?
Good eye. That's the fuel sub level sensor.

well explained, bit I didn't see you replacing the fuel pump for a new one...
I am trying to remove my pump but unable due to the black top plate. Did you have to maneuver any specific way to get it out?
My car doesn’t start due to the fuel pump. I need to replace it which I’ll be using your video. Do you only have to replace the gasket or the entire fuel pump?
Is it similar process for a 2004?
What are the little clips that go in the fuel line called, I some how lost mine in the process and don't know how to order new ones...
Search any oem Subaru part website and you'll be able to find the part. Email me if you have any trouble. Cheers.
"Basic Hand Tools" and the first tool you use is a $20 special service tool that you might use once in a lifetime. Brilliant....

May I ask what year and model Subaru are you working on?

is this the exact same for an 09 wrx?

What is the name of the tool you used to remove the fuel lines?
It's a line disconnect tool. It's pretty standard. Not a weird size.
I'm doing one right now, I'll post the size.
