That is actually called the fuel strainer, I have learned. There is supposed to be an in line filter somewhere. Rock auto sells them, so they go somewhere.
Oh, I didn’t see an in line filter anywhere on my Forester though, it was an Australian delivered 2008 model so there could be differences between others I suppose!
Haha awesome, thanks bro, the new cruiser I got to be able to move my mum around, it’s the same as her old car and I’ve been trying to get her another one for almost a year but in the end I saved up and brought it my self!
Great vid! I'm about to change the fuel pump with filter hence the car started to stutter and hesitate on rpm under 3500 and not starting occasionally. Is your car petrol or diesel? What engine type is it?
Thank you, I hope that fixes the issue for you, and mine was a petrol, but I sold it a few years ago. It was a 2.5lt boxer 4 cylinder petrol engine ej25, non turbo.
Mine is a 93 Legacy with 238 K miles on it. Shows no signs of fuel pump problems but the fuel guage is getting erratic. Origional pump about time to change it.
That’s cool to she’s still going with that many miles ay! Being a ‘93 I don’t know to much about them but the fuel filter might be in the engine bay or under the car somewhere in the fuel lines, I think having it in tank like the Forester makes it harder to replace. But the fuel pump should be similar to replace, it’s not to hard.
I didn’t tell you that I’m my mums carer because she has dementia, she definitely didn’t help me learn to drift, when I was a teenager she told me she would kick me out of the house if I ever lost my license! Luckily that didn’t happen..
Great video but im just gunna do the whole assembly, to much fiddling for my liking, plus my rigs on 240,000 and as far as i know its never been done lol 😂 but may do just the filter next time.
Hey did you notice an increase in fuel economy after the change? Mines have been giving me poor fuel economy and I'm hoping this is the problem but mines is just over 100,000 mines
No no, haha I have spent a lot of time in LA and some time in San Diego even walked over the border into Tijuana but I appreciate you taking the time to leave me a comment so I took the time to use the translator on my phone to leave a Spanish reply!
I’m actually not exactly sure because this was the only one I’ve worked on so I don’t know much about other year models! I believe some have different style back seats too.
Yeah thanks, I needed screes to cover the pipes.... Just spilling fuel everywhere.. safe to say I wasn't expecting it.... I just hope replacing it was the fix. Currently car won't start, no fuel prime.
@@ScubaMade nah, just some fuel pressure pushing it all out of the pipes... Was just A lot... I even had 1/3 of a tank which apparently according to Subaru is fine. I would definitely recommend people dropping the fuel as low as possible on ever doing this. Cross fingers install isn't as filthy haha 😂
Thanks. I’ve changed a few fuel pumps but never on a subaru. Makes it easier seeing it done first.
That’s good to hear, thank you! Much appreciated!! 😃
thanks bro, great vid! love the attitude of just having a go and problem solving along the way
Haha thanks heaps for that, Much appreciated! I like having a go at things and getting them done!

So laid back ! Ill leave well alone.. 2010 forester 165 thousand ks
No worries, that’s a good car ay!
Thanks for sharing this! It definitely gave me the confidence to do my own, even though my setup is a little different for the XT version in the US.
That’s awesome! No problem, thank you! And the fuel economy and performance will noticeably improve for you too 😃
Opens TH-cam, sees Adam LZ has a new video.. ignores and goes straight to scubas channel instead! yewww!
Haha awesome, thanks bro, the new cruiser I got to be able to move my mum around, it’s the same as her old car and I’ve been trying to get her another one for almost a year but in the end I saved up and brought it my self!
your video was very useful to me, thank you very much, Brazil.
That’s awesome, thank you! The engine worked noticeably better after the new filter! Hope yours did too 😃
Did this ever improve the fuel economy? Our 2011 forester (160K miles) is now getting 18MPG down about 4MPG since we bought it with 80Kmiles.
Yeah it was very noticeable for me, it got to about 24MPG or about 9.8lt/100km so definitely worth it!

great clip...no BS just "how to"....thanks.
Haha awesome! Thank you very much!
Great video! Thanks for posting.
No problem, it helped the fuel economy a lot too, it came from 11L/100km to 9.8L/100km!
Ok! So you in your car, and your mom in the new car. Wow you did not tell us that you learned how to drift from your mom!!!!
I didn’t tell you that I’m my mums carer because she has dementia, she definitely didn’t help me learn to drift, when I was a teenager she told me she would kick me out of the house if I ever lost my license! Luckily that didn’t happen..
Three years later how would you review that fuel pump? Any problems since the install?
I’m not sure now because I sold the Forester 3 years ago! But I’d say it’s still going good!
you made a good video bruh😊.so thanks
That’s awesome to hear, thanks heaps! Glad you enjoyed it 😃
Very well made video. Thank you
I’m very glad you like it!
Thank you, I really appreciate it! 😃
Great vid thanks mate!!

Thanks heaps!! Yeah that sounds like a good idea anyway, and you should see the improvements in fuel economy too!
Much Thanks,,this helped
Thank you too! That’s awesome to hear!
Today on "Bandit Heeler DIY!!"
Haha sounds good 👍🏼
where you get the pad? in the ryco z931 package or buy separate?
I can’t remember exactly where I got the pad, I just had it laying around and luckily it was similar! I probably got it off eBay years ago haha!
Hey did you notice an increase in fuel economy after the change? Mines have been giving me poor fuel economy and I'm hoping this is the problem but mines is just over 100,000 mines
Yeah a pretty big difference actually! I’d definitely recommend changing it!
I had to replace my fuel cap as well, seal is bad.
Hope it’s all good now! Thanks for letting us know!
Saludos desde México, es un vídeo muy util
Muy apreciado, gracias! ¡Estoy feliz de que te haya gustado!
@@ScubaMade 😳 your speak Spanish ⁉️😳
No no, haha I have spent a lot of time in LA and some time in San Diego even walked over the border into Tijuana but I appreciate you taking the time to leave me a comment so I took the time to use the translator on my phone to leave a Spanish reply!
Great video! Where did you happen to get the small filter at the bottom of the fuel pump?
Thank you, I had some left over from what I used in my Silvia, I brought them about 6 years ago off eBay so it was awhile ago now.
Is this the same for 2010 2.5litre model non turbo ?
I’m actually not exactly sure because this was the only one I’ve worked on so I don’t know much about other year models!
I believe some have different style back seats too.
What year is the car you are working on!!
That was a 2008 SH Forrester, so there’s a chance the fuel filters could be different on other year models!
What year is your Forester and does it have an external inline filter ?
It’s a 2008 SH model and I don’t think it has an inline filter.
It’s a 3rd gen, in the US market it’s’ ‘09-13 so I think ‘08-12 elsewhere.
What model year is the vehicle?
That Subi is a 2008 model!
What year model is your Forester, Sir?
It’s a 2008 built Forester! One of the early ones!
@ScubaMade Is the Euro Suburu different than an American?
I don’t know about ether of those because I had an Australian delivered one!
@ScubaMade I can confirm it's in the same place.
Awesome, that’s good to hear! Thank you!
Mine is dumping a crap tone of fuel... Wont stop
That’s not good to hear! I hope you can fix it!
Yeah thanks, I needed screes to cover the pipes.... Just spilling fuel everywhere.. safe to say I wasn't expecting it.... I just hope replacing it was the fix. Currently car won't start, no fuel prime.
Oh ok! Yeah maybe the fuel lines are cracked or something too?

Ok yeah, well I had the tank pretty empty when I did it and that seemed to work well for me!
