I fully realize what Bono meant by not wanting to sing/play "crying in your beer music," but many of their songs enable, facilitate that. That is the human condition...i.e. "I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For." etc. Having said that, I love you Bono for you are a genius plain and simple.

The latest album from these guys (whether people think its good or not) is still a collection of songs that most bands would kill for to make an album for themselves. 40yrs & 14 albums later are and will always be the best live band ever and forever. @sillysausage4549 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

@@stephaniecooper1762 Yes! I listened to UF constantly when it first came out. Seems like a lifetime ago... my all-time favourite too. Funnily enough, Joshua Tree never worked for me. I'd go UF, Achtung Baby, Live Under a Blood Red Sky, October, Boy, Rattle and Hum, then JT. Everything post Achtung has kind of left me cold.
My greatest disappointment with U2 was that they never captured the sound of the UF recordings live. Controversial opinion I know, but Pride and especially Bad have always sounded weak in a live context. The Live Aid version had the spontaneity, but that's it.

Spent like 20 mins reading such terrible comments...nothing I say will change your mind but, check this.. you’re hurt. You say hate them, their is a fine line between love and hate. You’re let down, you have expectations you want more and more...never satisfied and always looking for that moment you loved. These men, they’re Men..human beings, them nor you are perfect. Let it go... when you hate, you actually look like children who lost their favorite toy. Whining selfishly.
I can relate with what they dropped in the 90’s, it was and is my soul food. Nowadays I listen to others more and that’s ok. One day when I run into these guys, I’ll say thank you for making me feel and see myself and my life in a way I can understand even if it was for one time. No expectations, I grew from a boy to a man through their music. And I will die a man with gratitude.
Before you hate, heal your own wounds and have some class.. cause if that’s what you’re looking for, then be it. Don’t be a hypocrite like you claim to hate. Let people grow and learn from their own experience. Grow up.
Peace to U2 and to the world

He's a globalist, that's why. I have a U2 tattoo on my arm, and I will admit that. The tattoo represents more than the band, but does revolve around them obviously. But I say this because I'm not just some joker who is making comment without bias for the band. In 2017 when he put Trump down at the concert, and I see him working with these scumbags Clinton, Obama and Bush, that tells me he's a fucking sell out to the people. How can someone be so stupid? He's not. He's a globalist. Fuck him personally.

Man, anyone who doesnt like U2 is the equivilent of someone who would pick up a baby and not think its cute. U2 are honest to the music first and foremost. dont ever misunderstand them. Bono took on a job of trying to stop third world debt. he even succeeded in some cases. He is an action person, not an idealist like the dreamers he grew up admiring. Anyone like Bono who puts themselves out there to help the world will end up with egg on the face, cause you have to play the game atleast on the fucking surface play the game...... Show some absolute respect.

  • @frostflow
    @frostflow 5 ปีที่แล้ว +7

Seeing what he saw in Ethiopia at a younger age really flipped Bono’s perspective. A lot of people talk sh*t, but they’re all the same people NOT doing anything. Where’s the action? You can do better? Let’s see you do it. Stop sh*t talking and be about your criticism. Bono made it happen and keeps himself, his family and a lot of people sustained, smart about his money = real G style. That’s a boss. As far as singing goes, If Frank Sintara personally requests for you to vibe with him on drinks and cigars. You're up there with the best. Hands down, He's one of the best, nuff said about that. moving right along...
    If you hate?
You’re most likely whack. Time for all the cry babies to put in that work and catch up to Bono’s accomplishments .... you’re late by like, 40 years 😂. Get cracking, humble up and get to work. ... We all got mad work to do.
A lot fans have a great deal of respect and a good memory about what his band has done to change the game.

Australia and New Zealand have been pretty poorly served by U2 tours. They didn't come for The Joshua Tree in 87/88, instead coming off the back of Rattle & Hum in 89. They didn't come for Achtung Baby, waiting till Zooropa in 93. And they hadn't been to Australia for nine years till this recent 2019 tour.

Why are you complaining?! U2 is in Adelaide as we speak. Damned if they do, damned if they don't. U Aussies hold the record (with England) as the worst whiners and complainers in the world! It's a Beautiful Day!! Get it ?!

@@streetheat3366 - my SO is Australian and he agrees with you & since he is Australian, he can speak about it, just like you. I love the group, Toto and they said the same thing you are saying.. they toured Australia earlier this year and they said the crowds were rude, noisy , drunk & didn't even know the words to their songs! It is shameful, I would have to agree with you.

Do people forget how good U2 were back in the day? Even an album like Rattle & Hum had songs like "Desire", Angel of Harlem" "All I Want Is You". I understand it's cool to hate on them because of the past 20 years, but c'mon, when all is said and done, that period from 1980-1991 was mind boggling.

I think, people who think the more recent albums of U2 aren't as good, overall, are mostly correct. Even the wonderful creative artistry of this band will sadely, eventually, completely wither away.
Maybe, again mostly, it already has? Listen, even though they probably don't wish to admit it fully, they are on the downside to being old.
And yes, they can be big mouths and overly oppinionated, especially Bono, of course. But to say U2 (again, especially Bono) hasn't made a genuine attempt to influence the better nature of man (since their fame and fortune has allowed it) towards actions to help everyone's less fortunate fellow man, would be disingenuous, by those who think it.

Patrick - exactly. I get never-ending joy from reading all the jealous fucks that would, if given the chance, save money in any way they could. Many businesses avoid taxes by different practices. These guys would say "no" to a huge record contract and budget? They would say "no" to being the biggest band in the world? Me thinks not.

    • @justinw1765

There seems to be A LOT of projection of unconscious shadow aspects onto them by a certain type of person. Dare I say that a percentage of same, come under a generally similar archetype of folks that voted for and *still loudly and proudly support Trump* (not that Clinton was any better). I call them the more negative than not "cop types". (Not saying all cops are negative, unloving, and/or spiritually immature, but pointing to the ones who tend toward that, which of late, seems to be the slight majority).
Most of the guys in the band are followers of Yeshua. Yeshua did warn his disciples that if people truly followed in his footsteps, spoke truth without fear, tried to help others, etc that the world would come to hate and mistreat them.
U2 is probably not more hated because they are not quite fully following in his footsteps to the nth degree, but then again, few people are, do, or have.

Ok-I`ve been very privileged in that I`ve seen some great rock bands-Led Zep,The Who, The Stones-and I have to say that Larry Mullen`s art school band are right up with the greats. ( Mind you, I never saw John Lennon`s artie band. Pity, that. ) Fundamentally, U2 are a good rock band- nay, forsay that-a GREAT rock band .
Eric Clapton was once asked during the "Summer of Love" "How can I best live my life". He saId "Just do what you feel", all the time thinking " How the eff do I know? I just play guitar!"
Bono is a) a great voclalist/frontman/lyricist. b) A socially aware millionaire. Can this be reconciled?
To quote Eric "How the eff do I know?"
