Loved the opening night, and it's the show I chose as a keepsake (I wasn't there physically, but You tube let me in! Hahaha!). I love that Egde spoke about the community of song he found on his Karaoke night, and Bono's observation at the end...is it real, or imaginary light. It doesn't matter as long as someone is being illuminated by it.
My favorites memory of South Africa was being in one of the parts where apartheid still goes on. Say the early Spring before the I|E tour ‘15 in Quebec. That was the 2nd, or third best show of U2’s I’ve seen. But we were stopped in a contact’s house, in a desert town, that was covered with cages. There’s people hanging on the gates, starving, begging, with plastic bags. “How to get to the grocery store?” At the grocery store the manager had “Until the End of the World,” cranked. We smiled for the first time since, well there were views. And I went over to him and shouted, “You like U2?” “Oh, Ya, man.” “Someone said no one here liked them.” “Ha Ha. That no friend. Dey lied, my friend. Sorry to say. You play that guitar?” Anyway it was nice. Keep playing everyone
The Pop album and subsequent tour do not get the recognition they deserve. Quite honestly, the Mexico City Popmart DVD is probably my favorite of all their concert DVD's that have been made available over the years. That or Live in Sydney Zoo TV. Both are masterpieces.

u2 played well at this LV run; new drummer was interesting & adapted surprisingly well, & livened the act up a fair bit giving the guitarists a new element to adapt to & perform with.
