Hey Hannah I am a huge fan, I was wondering if you could possibly react to a movie called into the woods, it's on disney plus and Anna Kendrick, James Corden, Emily Blunt, and a bunch of other great actors are in it and I would really love if you could react to it. I love you so much and thank you for everything! Also even though you most likely won't see this if you do I know you don't really do like shoutouts or anything but I would love one if that's alright my name is Mackenzie Hudkins just so I know you saw this it would mean a lot. And again thanks for everything I love you!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I found this youtuber yesterday, she has 3 origional songs on her channel and she is incredible I'm telling you! Abby Cates “Healing” (Fairy Song) Original Song Ruins - original Friend Kiss - original she also does a great cover of She Used To Be Mine which rivals the great Jeremy Jordan and also Katherine McPhee In the first song listed she done an amazing vocal run near the end Please Please PLEASE check it out!
The "time for dinner" is important in a hispanic context. We can be hashing out all the drama, we can all be fighting, there could be serious shit happening, but you're still expected to show up to dinner and eat at that table even if you don't want to, which is toxic, which is something I think they highlighted well.
I think it's also highlighting Bruno's absence from the table (and his need to remain part of the family by making himself a place at the table, as seen later in the movie)
I don’t think is always toxic. It can also be very healing, as it is a moment in which you put those bad things aside (for a while) and you sit together as a union, a family. It’s a reminder that the family is together. That is also why it is important in the song, because Bruno has been excluded from it.
I'd never thought about it from that perspective, but it's true, dinner time, or meal time is important, and no one cares if you're mad at someone there, you better show up and sit your a*s down at that table and put your best face forward, also, as Bethany and Pablo said, it does highlight the fact that at that moment, Bruno has been cast out entirely, and even like that, he makes himself a place at that family dinner table
If you listen to videos people took from the audience, you can hear her struggling in some parts, sounding clearly sick. Poor thing. I actually thought they might have her record over some of that but they just fixed some of it with sound editing.
The theory is Delores heard Bruno in the walls every day but she was so invested in the telenovela that Bruno was doing with the rats that she didn't tell anyone.
THIS😂, plus I also believe that Delores tried telling people but just like during the song she gets glossed over. nobody cares what she hears and has to say until they need something from her.
Ew. I hate that theory. LOL I'm pretty sure that she didn't tell anyone because, she would have been about 11 when Bruno disappeared, and she started hearing him in the walls, and 11 year olds know better than to involve themselves in the decisions or affairs of adults. At least that's how it is in Latin families.
Honestly, as a latina, the fact that they don't talk about one person in the family and pretend they don't exist is pretty accurate. Also the time for dinner is accurate as well, since we like to pretend nothing happened and eat together even if everyone in the family hates each other
YES! especially since we know she hasn’t been having the best time mentally recently and it is so easy to just ignore your hair when your mind gets like that. But LOOK at it! Slayyyy girl!
As a Latin woman, time for dinner is quite important because it’s the heart of our families, and the song talks about Mariano & his mother coming for the proposal dinner. Abuela even says “Oye, Mariano’s on his way”. So the song is about Bruno of course, but is also advancing the plot and upping the pressure of the situation so by the time it’s “time for dinner” it reaches a crescendo literally and figuratively!
I think one of the other issues with Luisa's songs live is that they clearly used autotune in the studio to manipulate Jessica Darrow's voice in certain parts to make it deeper and more earthy for the movie. So trying to create that sound live is pretty amazing and it's not surprising that it was a challenge. But Jessica Darrow is a queen and absolutely KILLED IT.
If you here her sing live in one of her more jazzy performances and the audience it's more quiet, her voice does sound more rich and reaches very lower tones
The "time for dinner!" moment is the climax of the song because that is when the pressure is at its peak. This is a family that hides from each other and from their community. They each hide their secret anxieties and stresses and resentments to present themselves as perfect for the approval of Abuela who wants nothing more than to present her children and grandchildren as perfect to the community. But now all the family's buried drama is being unearthed because we're finally talking about Bruno on a day when there are guests coming over for dinner, so that moment when its "time for dinner" is when everyone has to put the mask back on again and pretend to be the perfect happy exceptional family that they know they are not.
The thing with Dolores not saying anything about Bruno a big part of her character is that despite being the person that hears everything she is also the person that is often ignored except for when she is specifically asked to use her gift she may have tried to tell people in the beginning but if her parents were constantly telling her “we don’t talk about Bruno” she may have just given up on people hearing her
I think the reason as to why is the "we don't talk about Bruno" song climax is "time for dinner" is because for Bruno, who is living inside the walls of Casita, dinner is a very important time for him. Cause that's the only moment of the day that he gets to see his whole family together and he even pretends to be eating with them. You know, cause despite everything, he loves his family and he still wants to be with them. But that's just my guess.
In "we don't talk about Bruno" Dolores' entire part is her trying to make Mirabel understand that Bruno is still here and she goes on like "it's like I hear him now, *I can hear him now* " She's been trying to say it all these years but she was a kid when he left so she took his disappearance for granted and she was lead to believe that it's be best for everyone if no one knew he was in there
My headcanon is that she's the best at keeping secrets but the reason why she didn't keep Mirabel's is because she's already keeping everyone else's in a 50miles radius and she can physically not keep one single more
I think it's worth adding that Dolores is a listener in a family that's too busy trying to be perfect to be willing to listen themselves. They don't talk about Bruno, but just as importantly, they don't listen about Bruno either. Dolores is the only one that understood Bruno. Heavily reflected in the song, because only her verse about what happened with Bruno was accurate. His visions of the future weren't perfect, and that left Abuela fumbling because she so desperately needed everything to be perfect for the miracle. It took a huge fight and the destruction of the house to get Abuela to listen to Mirabel - I don't think anyone would have been terribly willing to hear out Dolores when they're all suppressing and in denial about so much. So instead, Dolores seems to try to nudge people in the right direction rather than being direct.
I always interpreted the "Time for dinner" line as something that emphasized Bruno, a family member, being neglected from the family because sitting at the dinner table with your family seems like a normal everyday thing, but even while they're having a serious conversation about Bruno, something like everyday dinner was able to just brush it aside. And then we find out later how he has made his own plate on a little table behind the painting and it hurts even more 🥲
I really want you to know that this movie means a lot to us Colombians. The movie was inspired in Colombia, our food, our culture, our music, our views, everything. And the part of Dos Oruguitas is about a very difficult moment in our country history, that was the internal war.
I started fangirling so hard when I saw Olga (Abuela) I love this woman in the heights and didn't realize she played Abuela in both. (Along with Stephanie in both and LMM writing boy songs obv)
I love Stephanie's voice, I love everyone's voice actually especially Diane's voice. So beautiful. Can't believe that Stephanie was able to sing so perfectly when she was sick. Is it okay if you could react to both enchanted and disenchanted please?
I think I love most how sophisticated your comments are around how the voice works physiologically. I also love that you pointed out the need to mic people differently based on their individual needs as singers. Not everyone uses their voice the same way for many different reasons. A good production sound team will do that and it will make a difference to both performer longevity and audience enjoyment.
One: that show was so amazing. It was everything I would’ve dreamed it to be. Oh my gosh I loved the set, the costumes, the dancers, the singing! And two: so amazing that Stephanie was able to do that sick. It’s crazy how great she sounded despite her being ill. She’s so fabulous and I love her
Coming from a Hispanic family myself and also I’m pretty sure I heard Lin Manuel say it in an interview. I think the reason the “Time For Dinner” part is the climax of We Don’t Talk About Bruno is the irony that, even though no one is supposed to talk about him; he’s all anyone is talking about. Then them screaming time for dinner is like them changing the subject cause they’re being hypocritical. Or maybe I smoked too much weed and I’m overthinking this.
I think "Time for dinner" is the musical climax for a couple reasons: 1. The whole point of the song is we DON'T talk about Bruno, so they're trying to get everyone back on track from what they've been failing at doing the whole song. 2. Later in the movie, we know that Bruno was watching the family the whole time from that crack in the mural, so it could be a foreshadowing feature because he had his own drawn-on plate and silverware that he would sit at when he wanted to be part of the family again. Side note head canon: Dolores didn't know for sure that Bruno was still in casita because she can hear EVERYTHING all the time. If you hear constant noise and talking everywhere, 24/7, how do you know where one person's voice is coming from or how far away it is?
Yeah, she could have been saying “i KNEW he never left” as if she was actually telling herself but also she could have tried to tell people when she first heard him but being 11, no one believed her/kept telling her not to talk about him and let it go…so she did.
What I probably love the most would actually be the actress that voices Isabela. Diane Guerrero is completely different in her role as Crazy Janes on Doom Patrol, which really shows her range as an actress. Plus, who knew that she could sing!
Right?! I never saw OITNB or Doom Patrol, but I saw some clips of them, and I mean, the fact that she can sing gorgeously LIVE onstage just stuns me. She needs to be in more musicals for sure!
I had no idea that Isabella was Maritza from OITNB until I watched the Hollywood Bowl and I was SO HAPPY FOR HER when I discovered it. I love how she is an advocate for immigration and tells her families story so fearlessly. So much respect for her.
The “time for dinner” is very important bcs the song happens while they prepare for the engagement dinner for Isabella & Mariano. Which everyone told Mirabel not to ruin it. Which she did simply by asking about bruno
I love your original Encanto reaction video (the feels!!) and you don’t disappoint here. I believe you made the same voice squeezing observation during Waiting On a Miracle in your reaction video, so we know Stephanie is consistent. I can’t wait to watch this whole show, thanks for your insights and appreciation. So glad you’re doing better. I hope you continue to take care of yourself (not only with vitamins) and that you feel supported.
As people have already mentioned Stephanie was sick during this performance which is why she may not have sounded as good, but given that I think she and the whole cast did a good job at this performance. Also not sure if people have said this or not, but the actress Stephanie Beatriz (Mirabel) plays the character Rosa in "Brooklyn Nine-Nine" and the stance and expression she has on her face at 11:34 (as you put it, "...the biggest side-eye ever")is an expression her character (Rosa) would definitely have. She also played the character Carla in the movie version of "In the Heights". Another thing the actress Olga Merediz (Abuela) played the character Abuela Claudia in the movie (and original Broadway cast) of "In the Heights".
stephanie is the ultimate professional - she recorded waiting on a miracle despite being in labor, and even here she's sick and still went for it. i just love her sm.
Came a couple years ago for the singing, stayed for your trademark blend of honesty and kindness, stayed for the watching you grow and learn and become more free and comfortable and vulnerable. Thanks for taking us along on the ride Hannah. My Relatable Queen.
Okay, I was OBSESSED with Joseph and the amazing technicolor dreamcoat as a kid! My mom last week found an old box where she had 3 backups because o had already watched it so many times the last 2 copies wore out! Weird timing, but it was so funny to hear you mention it today!
I don’t comment super often but I just wanted to say I love that your kinda going back to the OG theatre analysis of the voice. I love ur other vids too for sure but I love the more like technical/ educational style❤️❤️
I absolutely love Luisa's character and when I saw her actress in that outfit I think my heart actually stopped for a second! Like look how beautiful she is! And I agree that narrator in Joseph looked badass xxx
Hey Hannah, This video just made me smile so much. I was actually there for the first night at the Hollywood Bowl....And it was absolutely magical and so much fun. I was looking forward to the seeing the filmed version as Stephanie was sick and it was obvious that she was struggling in sections. She did amazing job given her illness. Stephanie and the cast killed it. They engaged the audience, made it interactive, and I can't wait to see Encanto come to Broadway.
I sobbed so hard at the “dos oruguitas” number my boyfriend had to stop what he was doing to check on me, but I couldn’t even form words to explain what was going on. Needless to say, I also cried watching you cry in the video lol
When you mentioned ''Joseph and the amazing technicolor dreamcoat'' you awakened a distant childhood memory of mine. I was actually trying to remember what the movie was and I only could remember that it was a version of some religious stuff. I watched the movie several times when i was a kid because we had that on dvd.
Hannah! Would LOVE to see your reaction to the Beauty and the Beast 30th Anniversary celebration! H.E.R. and Josh Groban as Belle and Beast are amazing!!
The only thing that always bothers me is that Camilo’s voice actor is almost never in these live shows. Like I love his singing and wanna hear more come on
So I think "Time for dinner" is emphasized like this for this EXACT reason mentioned. There is something more important (a full on family member that isn't talked about) but they don't want to talk about him. As if he's some sort of fable or his existence is bad luck. So the part that is actually emphasized is "Now let's forget we ever talked about this topic and get back to ignoring this whole Bruno thing again.". But that's just my interpretation. If anyone has a different view on this, I am interested. ;)
If you want more of Stephanie Beatriz's singing, I recommend looking up the song Don't Stop Dancing from Bojack Horseman. Her voice is incredible in that.
im pretty sure stephanie beatriz had strep throat for this performance! it might explain why she strained in certain parts alongside regular discrepancies the performer might have in her voice; as someone who has had strep throat twice i can confirm that it is incredibly painful to speak nevermind SING in that condition. your assessment is so so insightful, its amazing that you diagnosed those issues by ear!
Oh my god, really off topic, but: During my last year at my old school the year group’s special play in drama was Joseph and the Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat as a musical - we watched that exact version a couple of times. You bringing this up brought back some… fond and not-so-fond memories
I love watching you react to videos like this because I learn so much and you explain so so well, Thank you Hannah Bayles!! Also, I have always LOVED your hair❤
Im doing okay Hannah. How are you doing girl? Drinking water? Feeling okay? Know you are loved truly and deeply by all of us? Thought you needed a reminder. ♥️
Oh Hannah, i love your vocal analysis (analysises?) heck your reactions you do and post. I have seen a lot of them over the last few months, maybe even a year, however I don't remember seeing any about the Disney film "Coco". This movie is by far one of my favourite "newer" disney movies, extremely emotional, very family orientated, and above all else, musical! They also done Coco in the Hollywood Bowl last year! This again was as amazing as Encanto at the Hollywood Bowl and would also love to see your reactions to that too! Beware however and have the tissues near you. Tears will happen, do not fight it
I love your enthusiasm. I also love Luisa. Everything about the character. I love that a strong woman was depicted as still feminine. Showing that you don't have to be only one, not both.
When you talk about the big number being associated with "time for dinner", I remember the part of Bruno also having a plate next to their table in his hideaway. Could that be an association or double meaning???? p.s. adore everything you do
I got to see this live (it was a regular ticketed event) and I can confirm the theatrics were off the chart. They even had an interactive app for 2 of the songs so everyone's phones lit up and it was amazing. I agree the set design was the best part. It was so so cool. I'll never forget the feeling of Lin walking out and stomping on that circle to bring it to life. I would love to see this get made into a fully realized and staged broadway production. ALSO! I think the "time for dinner" line is emphasized because the dinner is the culmination of all these people and all their issues coming together and seemingly a bit source of anxiety for Mirabel. In a way it also is what leads her to Bruno. Just a theory tho
Obviously the songs did lots of mastering and editing in the studio, but I also wonder if Stephanie being in early labor during recording for waiting on a miracle altered her voice? Definitely requesting Matilda the Musical reaction from the Queen.
When I first watched this on Disney plus I immediately wondered if you were going to react to this. I was so excited for it, and you did NOT disappoint. Love your content, insight and commentary. Thank you. 😁
What I realized about this reaction is that when coach was saying about “Time For Dinner” she thinks it doesn’t makes sense, but NOW that I realized it. It actually makes sense when we remember the part where Bruno was actually behind the walls, eating with them too but no actually present on the families sight.
Amazing as always. I always love watching your reactions! Speaking of theatre, a guy on tiktok just released 5 songs for a musical he wrote called Epic: The Troy Saga. I think you'd really enjoy his singing and tiktoks!
Geez I was crying most of this video! I would have been a sobbing mess if I saw this live!! Great to see another video Hannah, and I love to hear your insights about the singers and shows 💜
Hi Hannah, I have a bit of an unusual video request. There are two sisters from Sweden who a few years ago made a band called “First Aid Kit”. They sing their own compositions but are inspired by classic Americana and folk music. They have the most incredible harmonies and some really interesting vocal techniques that I’d love to see you take a look at. For example, check out their live recording of “If It Be Your Will” from their tribute concert to Leonard Cohen
OMG in college I was narrator in Joseph, and it's my favorite role ever! Plus, that narrator you referenced was possibly one of my earliest queer crushes lol
So glad your back, I love your videos!!!! You should react to Kerry butler singing fly fly away from the catch me if you can musical. I also feel like you would have a great time reacting to legally blonde the musical
Have you ever watched She-Ra (Both versions are awesome, but I mean the Netflix one)? I know it's not a musical show and basically has no songs in it, at least not by the characters, but the show is actually really good and has a great diverse cast of characters, including one who prefers to wear a powersuit instead of a fancy dress. I think you'd love it (and the entire show has a great concept too)
your second encanto video made me cry again…I‘d do anything to watch a show like that in Austria this was perfect…such a good movie and such a good story 😍😍😍

another latina here, my family is exactly like that
Same in Italy!
Can we talk about how VOLUMINOUS your hair is. It’s goddess hair.

I feel like it also really eludes to the reveal later in the film that Bruno is still there just on the other side of the wall eating dinner with them
1000% agree
Also family meals always fall at the most INCONVENIENT time when dealing with family drama. At least they did with mine lol
The way Stephanie was a ✨PROFESSIONAL✨ killing it even though she was super sick. 💗Queen! Just like our Hannah ❤

Like, this whole stage adn costumes and effects is so amazing! Imagine being there live? I would have dropped my jaw and lost it forever.
In the studio version of Waiting for a Miracle, she was in labor! So I'm sure she has sentimental memories with the song
in labor? or you just mean pregnant?
@@--julian_ in labor she was having contractions
@@jeidamartin5496 so they recorded in the hospital?? I'm so confused
@@--julian_ no she sung it in the studio she was in early labor meaning the contractions were far apart, so she didn't tell anyone
I first was like, it doesn't sound good, but then I saw Stephanie was sick that day and I was like, Stephanie carried this concert so yea
stephanie is the ultimate professional - she recorded waiting on a miracle despite being in labor, and even here she's sick and still went for it. i just love her sm.
Came a couple years ago for the singing, stayed for your trademark blend of honesty and kindness, stayed for the watching you grow and learn and become more free and comfortable and vulnerable. Thanks for taking us along on the ride Hannah. My Relatable Queen.
This performance proves one thing, and one thing only. ENCANTO NEEDS TO GO ON BROADWAY!
Okay, I was OBSESSED with Joseph and the amazing technicolor dreamcoat as a kid! My mom last week found an old box where she had 3 backups because o had already watched it so many times the last 2 copies wore out! Weird timing, but it was so funny to hear you mention it today!
YESSSSSS GO ENCANTO AND HANNAH. WE SUPPORT YOU WITH EVERYTHING ON THIS CHANNEL.
There's no way to hold the tears during dos oruguitas.i started crying immediately too
Same! 😭
This just makes me want a Broadway version even more!!! 🤩
I’m seconds in but Hannah THE HAIR 😍 the volume, the color, the curl *chefs kiss* 🤌
I love Hannah the Vocal Nerd, telling all about the vocal cords and whatnots! 😍 A pleasure to watch you geek out!
I just find it amazing how they’re able to sing, amazingly, but in character
"Guys, I love theater" Same Hannah, same😂✨
This was amazing! Love your energy 🧡✨
The only thing that always bothers me is that Camilo’s voice actor is almost never in these live shows.
Like I love his singing and wanna hear more come on
Hi Camilo’s voice actor and Dolores’s voice actor did a Don’t talk about Bruno performance in American Idol.
Yes I know, it was really amazing
This is so beautiful! Everyone sounds and looks awesome. Take care of yourself Hannah! ♥️
Anyone else love that Hannah asks how we are at the beginning of her videos after her intro ! Hannah cares about us just like we care about her ! 🥹💜💜💜
girlll you are glowing! i'm obsessed with your hair omg
The voice crack on "All of me" makes me tear up every time (or at least my chest wells up) it just hits hard
I also love Lin, he’s a gift to humanity. Love your Encanto reactions, it’s so magical! ;)
So glad you’re back with more videos! You are so amazing, I love watching the videos! ❤
7:32 “eyes” was so clean and so pretty😍
I SCREECHED when you said 3:20 cuz I got the narrator role for my school's musical this year!!! The narrator is such a powerhouse I love her sm 😭
15:10. I may be completely off mark here but this will always be a how to train your dragon callback in my mind. "You just gestured to all of me."
Oh my god, really off topic, but:
During my last year at my old school the year group’s special play in drama was Joseph and the Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat as a musical - we watched that exact version a couple of times. You bringing this up brought back some… fond and not-so-fond memories
I love your videos where you analyze the vocals, especially live ones. I learn so much with each video!
Not me crying while Hannah reacts to "dos oruguitas"... I can't, that part always makes my heart ache
Hannah: "That part always kills me."
Passed Abuelo: "It 'kills you'?"
I absolutely loved that performance, Stephanie Beatriz kills it every time
Stephanie was sick when they recorded this aswell!! She’s very dedicated bc I’m pretty sure she went into labor singing one of these songs
Wishing you a REALLY happy New Year!
Btw, totally agree with the " just wanna be there" comment.. me too, me too...
6:41 she sounds EXACTLY like the studio version 😭
Oh Hannah, i love your vocal analysis (analysises?) heck your reactions you do and post. I have seen a lot of them over the last few months, maybe even a year, however I don't remember seeing any about the Disney film "Coco".
This movie is by far one of my favourite "newer" disney movies, extremely emotional, very family orientated, and above all else, musical!
They also done Coco in the Hollywood Bowl last year! This again was as amazing as Encanto at the Hollywood Bowl and would also love to see your reactions to that too! Beware however and have the tissues near you. Tears will happen, do not fight it
Thank God! You are back! Your happiness makes me happy too, coolest girl ever!
I love seeing the original cast sing there songs live this Hollywood bowl was amazing
In hispanic households the dinner table is the time where we come together and talk about everything and it’s just a thing lol
i love watching ur videos bc u explain things exactly like my voice teacher i had in my hometown, i miss her!
If you liked the Donkeys here, you have to see the Donkeys in Encanto on Ice. It is the funniest thing I love it so much
Amazing as always. I always love watching your reactions! Speaking of theatre, a guy on tiktok just released 5 songs for a musical he wrote called Epic: The Troy Saga. I think you'd really enjoy his singing and tiktoks!
you should listen to "the ballad of jane doe" from ride the cyclone. emily rohm literally sings upside-down and hits some rlly impressive notes!!!
Geez I was crying most of this video! I would have been a sobbing mess if I saw this live!! Great to see another video Hannah, and I love to hear your insights about the singers and shows 💜
not me watching it 45 seconds after it posted
I cried through the whole thing. Loved this production!
okay yeah i was waiting for this !!!!
The donkeys serving ass is extra funny, because y’know, an ass is a donkey. 😂
OMG in college I was narrator in Joseph, and it's my favorite role ever! Plus, that narrator you referenced was possibly one of my earliest queer crushes lol
I love how you were obsessed with Maria Friedman back in the day. She is amazing! So is your reaction to this video. ❤️
So glad your back, I love your videos!!!! You should react to Kerry butler singing fly fly away from the catch me if you can musical. I also feel like you would have a great time reacting to legally blonde the musical
Luisa actress suit reminds of the purple encrusted microphone Hannah wants from the BTS videos
I think you'd love it (and the entire show has a great concept too)
right she ra has GREAT powersuits like Catra’s suit in the princess prom is gorgeous
your second encanto video made me cry again…I‘d do anything to watch a show like that in Austria this was perfect…such a good movie and such a good story 😍😍😍
So glad to have your reaction videos back Hannah! Sending love❤
