Well done Jon and Pete a great video as ever and I definitely agree sounds like it is going to be the idle control valve or maf it’s not regulating it’s idle speed and probably not communicating right with ECU I’ve had one go on a focus in the past It’s coming on great well done on your hard work
I bought my wife a 1.3 CVT K11 on an L plate c. 1997, with only 2,500 miles on the clock and 1 owner. She kept it for around 23 years until the tin worm meant there was little to weld to. It was a nippy peach of a car - my only grumble being the lack of power steering. It only needed 2 (cheap) refurbished throttle bodies and (equally cheap) fan resistor cards plus a new dizzy cap, apart from normal service items. There are still low mileage K11s around and from time to time I find myself eyeing the 1.4, with all the bells and whistles. I suspect you're not that far from me (Lincoln). Did I say we have a Smart 451 turbo, too?!
Oh Jon, I would not be furious if your dad robbed bits off the museum Micra. I'd be disappointed and as we all know, that is far far worse! Joking apart, fault finding can be so frustrating so fingers crossed, the throttle body, idle control valve and MAF sensor replacement sorts it out.
I admire the technical skills of your dad and the way you ask the right questions and make the appropriate comments. Being an Audi fan however I wonder why your dad dislikes them so much. My TT (2000), Q5(2013) and R8 V10 Spyder(2013) are great cars so what is his problem?😉
From memory the ICV other than a clean if taken apart needs to be set back up with consult. The other avenue worth exploring is the engine temperature sensor Not the dash gauge sender its worth removing and testing in the past i have had one with loads of crud stuck to it effectively acting as a thermal insulator. On the coil pack Micra its easier to get to as you don't have a distributor in the way, worth checking especially if it has been laid up whilst tinkering on the sensor I'd be tempted to test the thermostat at the same time and replace the coolant. Unfortunately I've not tinkered with coil pack Micras as mine have and are distributor ones with the Hitachi throttle body and injectors that's a whole other headache. Excellent content as always I'm dailying my k11 this week as i get my i10 ready for the MOT fingers crossed.
Some good advice - I reckon Dad has tested all that in the diagnostic process but as you say without Consult it's rather difficult to do a lot of things! Enjoy your Micra weekend 😄
The days of the carburettor remember them well but I do think we look back on them with rose tinted glasses back in the late 70s and into the 80s I've lost count of the number of times I ended up having to put right someone's Sunday tune ups same goes for points and condenser. Towards the end of the 80s the dam carburettor became such a pain to set up that we were over the moon when fuel injection became the accepted norm and not the preserve of exotica. The K11 is often cited as the cockroach of the 90s super mini but they can be a bugger sometimes often because of delayed or missed maintenance. Not suggesting for a minute this is the case here I have run quite a few k11s that I rescued passed on still have a 98 inspiration in daily use.Thankfully I'm long out of the trade I could see where the industry was going by the mid 2000s and settled for a steady job with the council and just tinker for fun.
@@JonCoupland but how many possibly tired 2nd hand one would you have to replace vs just forking out for a new one which will last years hopefully? I get your pain its a lot of money financially, but may work out better in the long run. summat to ponder over eh?
You certainly may see it as a waste of his time - got to keep him busy! Remember this project was HIS idea to do! Not mine 🤣 He's not spending any of his own money however - it's all my hard earned TH-cams cash 👍 technically it's viewers money! What would you suggest we do instead?
Love your dad’s humour you should have a T-shirt of him holding spanner’s saying Dad’s fixed it
Ha great idea! 🤣👍

Sounds a lovely car! Yes we are a bit further east from you - the one with the big church! - I love the Smart 451 Turbo :)
The hunt continues, well done guys 😃
Cheers Frank ☺️
Cheeky bit of induction noise there... I like that!

Got sane issue 2002 se micra. Going buy 2nd hand one 30 pounds .. .. I think maf & udel valve are shot ...bosch tyoe
Order a Takeaway, and accidentally not be able to find your wallet, while Dad Snuffles the parts needed. As a good Delivery Driver never idles.
That's a great idea! 😄

Yeah ☺️👍
Bring back the carburettor, much easier to set up and run, showing my age now, Jon. Your dad comes out with some great one-liners😂
Yes! The carb system would certainly have been easier! I think he comes up with them without realising it 🤣

You could always take the idle control valve off the museum micra and make sure 100% its that.
We did consider that ... but we also considered running the risk of breaking it in the process ... leaving us with 2 broken Micras :)
Didn't you have a third Micra, Jon? Was it an auto? What was the plan for that?
@@Nick_of_Windsor i do - its still here in the collection :)
Take the throttle Body off and give it some Sonic Treatment
Good idea!
At least it’s found
Yes absolutely 😄👍
jon, buying a 2nd hand one, won't that be possibly in the same condition or in time end up that way? buy cheap, buy twice they say!
