Hey Jarrod, do you have any plans to review the recently released fusion/core 15 from XMG? The quite uncommon 16:10 15.3" screen and the performance shown by the recent notebookcheck review for a "compact" laptop seem pretty interesting!

Hey nice video! I wanted to know if it was possible to know the power draw during your battery test. Wow, I almost picked this one up but settled on the Slim 7i (2023) 4070. Really happy about that! Didn't like the form factor of the m16 R2 (at all!) and I'm also suffering from Dell fatigue. Hello more competitively priced Lenovo whose Slim form factor I love and is a solid performer!
@@GentleProdepends on where they live, this R2 is cheaper than most 4070 laptops here except the Pro 5i which I don't like because of the plastic body
Man comparing the thermal system of this and the M16 R1 is so funny; they literally removed like 70% of the thermal capabilities just to make it smaller but who.. wanted it to be smaller?
Somehow the 17“ class of laptops got ditched and we get 16“ and 18“. I am looking for a laptop and quite like the visual aspects of Alienware and Lenovo Legions but those machines have always some sort of thermal issues at those „price points“ which is a no go for me. Not only that but have lower specs in terms of CPU and GPU compared to some other options in the market.
@@Bert439 I'm ok with the brick haha it will be a desktop replacement for casual traveling! Will be in my desk plugged to my monitors, keyboard and mouse... Also I like more the AMD Ryzen 9 instead of intel Core i9! Thanks for the heads up ^_^
Hi, I just wanted to ask, because i didn't know what to buy. A Alienware m16 with an rtx 4080, Intel i9 13 Gen, 16GB Ram or an Lenovo legion 7i with an rtx 4070, Intel i9 14 Gen, 32 GB Ram and a 3.2K screen. Pleas help me to take a decision😅.
That CPU hitting 93C whilst sustaining 50W isn't that impressive imo, last year's (thicker) Legion Pro 7i could sustain 80W in stress tests at just over 80C. Last year's Legion Slim 7i could sustain 45W on the CPU at about 80C too. A 320 nits screen again just isn't good enough dell, they clearly don't want us to buy their gaming laptops or thinner lighter stuff like their XPS lineups. 😂
Well to say, Alienware have some weird behavior too. Using both the x17r1 and r2, I see that it sustain really high temp despite the cpu load. 80 when idling, 83 at 100w, 83 when when watching yt…
Yeah I agree about the temp sustain. After some stress tests on my laptop I managed to get a 13900HX to sustain 90C at 115W but that’s more than likely as a result of the undervolt. This laptop not being able to push 50 Watts without almost throttling can be a bit unfortunate for cpu intensive workloads but things could be tinkered with.
@@thongteevee On my MSi at least, CPU utilisation is at 100% constantly at idle. The culprit is Turbo Mode on their Dragon Center app. You could try checking any apps that's controlling the power state of your laptop.
i couldnt tell if alienware or lenovo is #1 with the m16 r1 they were in my opinion both the top. i liked the rgb and design of the r1 better then the stealth design of the legion. But these are personal preferences. There is no right or wrong. but m16 r2 vs lenovo: LENOVO WINS! "FINISH HIM!" FATALITY!
Does anyone know the max charging you can do with the thunderbolt port? I would like to leave the brick at home with my dock, and bring a smaller 90 -130 watt USB-C charger with me in the laptop bag.
I own a m16 r1 13900hx 4080 32gb and i had a m16r2 4070 16core for 5 days. The smaller form factor was interesting for me. but i sent it back, because the performance is so much worse... this is a serious downgrade from the r1. and it looks like a normal laptop. conclusion: if everything u need is a compact and mobile laptop, then buy another laptop than the r2. There are much better and cheaper options. If u like the alienhead so much, then put a sticker on it. If u want a powerhouse of a laptop with a unique look and u are able to afford a backpack which can fit this laptop (17" bag, nothing really speacial) then take the r1. For me personally the r2 has no reason to exist. Too expensive for a normal laptop, to weak for an alienware gaming laptop.
the r1 is often on sale and you can make really good deals for it. But tbh: i would prefer the omen 16 over the m16 r2. Im sure ur laptop is better than the r2. And the omen looks great too! :)
@@TypeiZ yeah this is my second omen, and it's for a reason XD It doesn't disappoint But still man, although I'm pretty sure my omen would perform much better since it has a better chip, Alienware just has another level of craze, just like how people like apple(I don't btw)
@@warriorsfg yeah i understand u. My desktop is an AW aurora r4 from 2013 with some small upgrade. When u get an AW product it's fascinating for some days. But u get used to it very fast and then u don't spend too much attention to it anymore. And 1 bad thing about AW desktops: They look really fancy (for me the aurora r4 case is the most beautiful case ever built), but the performance is crap. They can"t cool their desktop systems right and you lose tons of performance because of high teperatures in the whole system. Or for the m16 r1 laptop: it looks so cool from the back. but when do you see ur machine from behind? NEVER!!!! And from the front its a normal laptop with rgb keyboard :D For laptops i would buy an alienware, but never a desktop again. Apple: i have a 2013 13" macbook pro with linux mint for my mother. it is a beast for daily tasks :D i don"t like apple, but this device is the perfect fit for my mum xD
honestly Alienware and their whole design is flawed and very anti-consumer. Inverted motherboard makes you require a technician just to fking apply thermal paste or clean your fan. The exhaust above keyboard pushes it too down making it uncomfortable to type on, which is like one of the two primary modes of interaction.Laptop is thinner than most gaming laptops but what's the point if the rear exhaust is so thick that it won't fit in most backpacks or covers, making portability almost 0. Screen bezels can't be reduced nor can a 16:10 panel be fit, the max brightness & display itself is also very avg overall. Worst part is all these compromises didn't really give a huge upperhand in performance or thermals or fan noise. Compare it to any traditional laptop design and either it performs similar to them or even gets beaten in some aspects. Legion's also have rear exhaust but without other compromises and it runs circles around X series and R series. All this while not differing too much in terms of pricing and value.
I have a completely different question not relates to this vedio but asking sir in the new processors the ryzen 8845hs and intrl i7 14700hx does the synthetic benchmark scores really show the difference in performance truly or is the real world performance difference between both totally different from the synthetic benchmark number differences
I have been thinking whether to buy this overpriced Alienware or the Legion Pro 5. I had a great deal with Pro 5 ryzen 7745hx and 4070, which is almost 500 $ difference in my region. So please suggest me which is better,
@@JarrodsTech hey thank you. I have been taking a look at the 7i pro 2023 rtx 4080 variant with i9 13900hx. Should I choose the 13th gen or 14th gen? Is it a good buy when compared to predator helios 16 14900hx 4080?
13th gen and 14th gen are basically the same, 14th just has a slightly higher single core boost, it's negligible, just a rebrand really. Only difference is in the i7 HX as it adds on more E cores. I think we discussed the helios vs legion in Discord, unless that was someone else.
Intel cpus are at a level of Ryzen 7 1700 - Ryzen 7 2700X. Which is a joke. They understood it to abondon their own fabs to get a better nanometer production but they took long.
dell laptop and desktop prices are not worth it anymore. at that price either build a desktop replacement or buy an alternative desktop alternative laptop like msi titan 18 hx or rog scar 18 hx... either way, its best to wait and buy for 2025 laptops or desktops
if u dont need a mobile computer, then allways go for the desktop! u get much more power per $ u spend. I started to study IT, that's the only reason i decided for a laptop.
I was waiting for your review. Yay. I will getting this machine soon.
Maybe you didn't watch the review after all? Because there are WAY better laptops you could buy for the same price this one costs.
Bro I bought mine for $1849 + tax on Best buy Before this review. I got ripped off 🤦🏾♂️
@@GentleProdepends on where they live, this R2 is cheaper than most 4070 laptops here except the Pro 5i which I don't like because of the plastic body
where I live, the alienware is around the same price as the legion (slim) 7i, but the 7i has the i7/i9 hx processors, not the ultra 9.
@@GentleProthen tell us what they are. I’m a noobie, I know nothing about gaming laptops. My budget is $1400.
Thanks for this Jarrod. Can you do MSI new Raider A14V next? Want to see it against this Alienware and the ROG SCAR 18 (2024)
Lenovo LOQ, or Asus A16 if they are the same price and has 4060 card?
Also there is a Victus 16 4070, is it worth it?
what sort of sales do we get for Alienware laptops?
Hey Jarrod, I'm about to buy a couple of m16 but R1 with the Ryzen 9 7845HX and the RTX 4080... Do you recommend it??
If you're cool with the bigger power brick and inverted motherboard it's a good deal! If not wait for the R2's to go on sale.
@@Bert439 I'm ok with the brick haha it will be a desktop replacement for casual traveling! Will be in my desk plugged to my monitors, keyboard and mouse... Also I like more the AMD Ryzen 9 instead of intel Core i9! Thanks for the heads up ^_^
Whats the beet gaming laptop for 2024?
Thanks, these videos help alot
Glad to hear it!
@@JarrodsTech do you have any good budget laptops under 400 dolllars?
Lenovo LOQ or Asus Tuf A15 if they are the same price and has 4060 card.
Also there is a Victus 4070 is it worth it?
Can you review HP OMEN 17 RTX 4090 as well?
Also, my M16 R2 doesn't suffer from that screen wobble.
I love mine, a lot of the problems he talks about has not happened to mine, I got it for $1200
@@MrTigger55 is it worth buying? been seeing mixed reviews
I don’t know who would prefer this over the Legion.
I love this laptop, but I got it for half off. I wouldn't pay $2000 though, you can definitely get better laptops for that price.
More Ram, newer Generation, and more memory is always the way to go when buying a pc.😎
How about Dell G16? It is the low cost version of Alienware
Will it play cyberpunk 2077 on max?
What should be the Wattage of a PD charger to charge this laptop properly through type c port
When you said cheapest option, I thought you meant the lowest specced one. That would've been a real showcase of their price to performance ratio.
I'd say the dimmer screen is because this is Alienware's cheapest option, but then the x16 is low too, so nvm lol
Typical Alienware if you ask me, personally I'll never buy an Alienware laptop, always horrible temps
Is Legion still the best laptop company?
i couldnt tell if alienware or lenovo is #1
with the m16 r1 they were in my opinion both the top. i liked the rgb and design of the r1 better then the stealth design of the legion. But these are personal preferences. There is no right or wrong.
but m16 r2 vs lenovo: LENOVO WINS! "FINISH HIM!" FATALITY!
Still haven't moved past a 3070Ti but want $1000 more smh.
Is the warm area at the middle of the keyboard comparable to that of the Lenovo LOQ 15 2023?
Does anyone know the max charging you can do with the thunderbolt port? I would like to leave the brick at home with my dock, and bring a smaller 90 -130 watt USB-C charger with me in the laptop bag.
Can you do a review on latest dell g15 ?
I wanted an Alienware soo bad
Since 4-5 years
Even this time, I had to settle with an Omen 16 because this stuff is very expensive :(
the r1 is often on sale and you can make really good deals for it. But tbh: i would prefer the omen 16 over the m16 r2. Im sure ur laptop is better than the r2. And the omen looks great too! :)
@@TypeiZ yeah this is my second omen, and it's for a reason XD
It doesn't disappoint
But still man, although I'm pretty sure my omen would perform much better since it has a better chip,
Alienware just has another level of craze, just like how people like apple(I don't btw)
@@warriorsfg yeah i understand u. My desktop is an AW aurora r4 from 2013 with some small upgrade. When u get an AW product it's fascinating for some days. But u get used to it very fast and then u don't spend too much attention to it anymore.
And 1 bad thing about AW desktops:
They look really fancy (for me the aurora r4 case is the most beautiful case ever built), but the performance is crap. They can"t cool their desktop systems right and you lose tons of performance because of high teperatures in the whole system.
Or for the m16 r1 laptop: it looks so cool from the back. but when do you see ur machine from behind? NEVER!!!!
And from the front its a normal laptop with rgb keyboard :D
For laptops i would buy an alienware, but never a desktop again.
Apple: i have a 2013 13" macbook pro with linux mint for my mother. it is a beast for daily tasks :D i don"t like apple, but this device is the perfect fit for my mum xD
Is it possible to charge it on USB C?
Yes
I'd probably get a SFF and get a surface pro/ Legion GO and thats quite similar to the Price
why wasn't the Scar 18 in the list of the games tested?
honestly Alienware and their whole design is flawed and very anti-consumer.
All this while not differing too much in terms of pricing and value.
inverted motherboards aren't that bad
Hi, can you review lLano laptop cooling pad?
Can you upgrade the cpu and gpu
I have a completely different question not relates to this vedio but asking sir in the new processors the ryzen 8845hs and intrl i7 14700hx does the synthetic benchmark scores really show the difference in performance truly or is the real world performance difference between both totally different from the synthetic benchmark number differences
I have been thinking whether to buy this overpriced Alienware or the Legion Pro 5. I had a great deal with Pro 5 ryzen 7745hx and 4070, which is almost 500
$ difference in my region. So please suggest me which is better,
Probably the Legion for the reasons covered at the end of the video - better touchpad, brighter screen, cheaper, etc.
Legion Is almost Always better than Alienware even when more expensive.
this is my laptop right now. I got it for a little over $2k
Nice hope it’s going well!
Intel cpus are at a level of Ryzen 7 1700 - Ryzen 7 2700X. Which is a joke.
They understood it to abondon their own fabs to get a better nanometer production but they took long.
wait for the rtx 50 series.
As usual Alienware remains disappointing
dell laptop and desktop prices are not worth it anymore. at that price either build a desktop replacement or buy an alternative desktop alternative laptop like msi titan 18 hx or rog scar 18 hx... either way, its best to wait and buy for 2025 laptops or desktops
Just bought it from France
Please compare 13700hx vs 13900hx vs 14700hx vs 14900hx
im able to build a pc with an rtx 4070 ti super for about 1.5k, should i go for it or get a laptop?
A PC is almost always a better option if you're not looking for portability.
if u dont need a mobile computer, then allways go for the desktop! u get much more power per $ u spend.
I started to study IT, that's the only reason i decided for a laptop.
But i still use my 2013 Alienware Aurora R4 (upgraded to 2060 and 32gb ram) for coding, daily tasks, browsing and i could game with 100fps on max settings (i play games like dota, resident evil remakes, total war warhammer, ark survival evolved).
It Depend on whether you need portable pc or not
What is that black ring for?
