Not all fiction tho! His social commentary is kick ass, the one thing tht theyve never rly done with their songs b4, at least not in the manner of this album.
this album is a test to separate the real fans of the pretty visitors ;) personally I love it, it's new, fresh it's like to travel to another world, when I listen the songs I really feel like I were at Tranquility Base Hotel and Casino, and that I can run for government or being one of the Strokes, also reminds me my old memories of my friends of the wall... beautiful!!
irishprice (Hey! So sorry in advance about the length of this) Yeah their music definitely doesn’t have the same heavier rock feel of the first two albums. The album itself has stepped into a different genre so I get why some people don’t like it! I just feel bad when people call it “trash” bc it’s not, it’s really clever, just different. (Having said that, I think this track could’ve been on Suck It and See if it had more guitar work/heavier drums) Musically, it’s way way more layered than any of their older stuff. Also this album was composed on a piano bc after AM got huge Alex said he found it difficult to be inspired by the guitar. All AM albums have amazing lyrics but I think this album is probably the most lyric dependent. As Alex has said in interviews, he’s using the language of science fiction to describe modern society (it’s more subtle on this song but there’s others where it’s more obvious). The lyrics have the same kind of observational bluntness that their debut album had, but as @Jake Underland pointed out, there’s a lot more social commentary (he talks about the effects of technology, how we consume media, isolation, politics, fame etc.) Lyrically, the thing separating this album from the others is that none of the songs stick to one topic, each song covers a different combination of themes. And a lot of the songs reference each other in a way that’s difficult to explain, but they all contribute to the bigger picture and themes. I know it takes a bit of patience and scrolling through genius.com to understand, and I don’t blame people for not wanting to do so! Just want people to know there’s more to it than “just boring lounge music” :)

Not all fiction tho! His social commentary is kick ass, the one thing tht theyve never rly done with their songs b4, at least not in the manner of this album.
skyfullacomets "we'll stick to the guns
Don't care if it's marketing suicide
We won't crack or compromise
Your derisory divides will never unhinge us"
this album is a test to separate the real fans of the pretty visitors ;)
personally I love it, it's new, fresh it's like to travel to another world, when I listen the songs I really feel like I were at Tranquility Base Hotel and Casino, and that I can run for government or being one of the Strokes, also reminds me my old memories of my friends of the wall...
beautiful!!
irishprice (Hey! So sorry in advance about the length of this)
Yeah their music definitely doesn’t have the same heavier rock feel of the first two albums. The album itself has stepped into a different genre so I get why some people don’t like it! I just feel bad when people call it “trash” bc it’s not, it’s really clever, just different. (Having said that, I think this track could’ve been on Suck It and See if it had more guitar work/heavier drums)
Musically, it’s way way more layered than any of their older stuff.
Just want people to know there’s more to it than “just boring lounge music” :)
i bet you look bald on the dancefloor
Kshitij Bhargava 😂😂😂😂😂
HAHAHAHAH
i literally laughed about this for 10 minutes
you're welcome
Ha ha ha
2:10 - 2:20 bang on the studio version!! Literally spot on
3:19 Alex and Jamie are like two friends talking in a bar

Good afternoon
It's great to see how Alex has really grown over the years as a vocalist and a performer.
Beautiful performance, just perfect
One of my favourites off of the album! They did the arrangement so beautifully for this performance, plus Alex really suits his new haircut! 💖

Alex : R U Mine?
Alex's Hair : *Nope*

The superficiality of these comments are frightening.
How about the music?
How about the performance?
Outstanding.
I was about to type the exact same thing. Geez.
Good to see another intelligent intellectual like myself share their thoughts
This my favorite song on the album. I love the performance. Colbert+Turner. Lucky audience.
Of course this performance is brilliant , but it's very difficult not to notice also how cute Alex looks ... If you're human you can't help it.
@@snappycruise Too right! This is not my favourite from TBH&C, but the way it sounds here and how Alex sings it make this performance so special, it's excellent .
I am sure that more people around the world should know and listen to Alex Turner songs. They are unique and divine!
What a performance! His bald head looks like the moon.
George Meyer like moons sideboob😁
put a taqueria around the moon
Looks like he is channeling his inner Bono. Makes him look like an asshole, no matter how great his voice and songwriting might be. Just like Bono.
I like it. Cool hair style! It's summer! He is relieved from his hair, he was struggled a lot with them. I know, I have also difficult hairs.
LIMIANO CHEESE
I always come back to this performance
Probably couldn't see for the lights but I shaved my head
When Colbert introduced them, to the uninformed, it legit could have sounded like he threw random words together. He could have said "Now performing 'The Baseline' off their new album 'Tranquility Cheese Hotel In The Arctic', please welcome 'The Casino Monkeys'" and it would have sounded as coherent.
Still got pictures of friends on the wall
I suppose we aren't really friends anymore
Maybe I shouldn't ever have called
That thing friendly at all
Get freaked out from a knock at the door
When I haven't been expecting one
Didn't that used to be part of the fun, once upon a time?
We'll be there at the back of the bar
In a booth like we usually were
Every time there was a rocket launch
Or some big event
What a death I died writing that song
Start to finish, with you looking on
It stays between us, Steinway and his sons
'Cause it's the ultracheese
Perhaps it's time that you went for a walk
And dress like a fictional character
From a place they called America
In the golden age
Trust the politics to come along
When you were just trying to orbit the sun
When you were just about to be kind to someone
Because you had the chance
I've still got pictures of friends on the wall
I might look as if I'm deep in thought
But the truth is I'm probably not
If I ever was
Oh, the dawn won't stop weighing a tonne
I've done some things that I shouldn't have done
But I haven't stopped loving you once
