theory: what if alex is living in a futuristic era where he's rich enough to live in an island, alone, where he went officially insane (made his own hotel, replaying the tapes of his bandmates, and made the hotel vintage with the theme of being 'this is what 70s people think the future would look like', even taking on the personality of a 70s-80s guy, who's name is mark and happens to be a hotel manager) futuristic idea: most animals went extinct, such as horses and such, which is why he can be seen at 2:35 taking pictures of horses with a vintage camera (again, him trying to replicate the past as he misses living in the past). evidence of the idea of 'living in a 70s futuristic world': 0:59 him having to use video tapes to reminisce the past even though online video clouds had already been invented? 1:03 him using a rotary phone to talk to the audience 'good afternoon, tranquility base, hotel and casino, mark speaking, please tell me how can i direct your call' 3:20 and more are just box tv screens (or perhaps old computers?) reappearing, showing that alex is in fact, trying to recreate the past and for the infamous motorcycle scene, is where this is going to sound super *sTRETCHED*. basically at 3:00 and onwards for a couple of seconds, alex can be seen at a deserted highway. as he sits on the motorcycle still, a guy with another motorcycle happens to pass him by. this may show that alex is trying to escape the mistakes of his past, trying to escape from his whole 'mark' personality because living out his best life *alone* may not be what he wanted. which is why he can be seen at a highway with another guy, and then seen chasing after him with the motorcycle. this mat imply alex's subconcious trying to escape back to reality. but at the 3:30 scene, it shows alex's subconcious wandering an empty road, with clear signs of civilization being around (the lit cinema theatre lights implies that human life may still be active there), trying to find his way back to civilization and leaving the island (thru the highway).at the end, it is up to the viewer to decide how the story ends, which is whether or not alex finds his way to civilization, or the sad reality of him having to live with his mistakes and having to succumb to be forever alone in the abandoned hotel, playing the personality of Mark. anyways i made this because i thought that the MV itself was super cryptic and i was really bored so i thought that this theory might be really interesting to share. cheers!

I can tell that this album is a really "grown" project of the Arctic Monkeys.. it makes me so joyful because this is really rare these days. Always surprises me how they do it.. so futuristic but with a twist of the "old times". The video itself is so packed with the motivesss from the other songs from Tranquility Base Hotel & Casino, like omg, i'm living for these type of stories told through music videos! my soul is so happy and pleased.. amazing work
Yeah, instead of dwelling on the old days, making the same album as AM with a minor difference maybe, instead they grown out of it, they made a completely different album which is a good thing.
Alex said in an interview that he is fascinated with 50's-70's fashion and ambient because it has a sort of futuristic style to it. I think that's what he's going for with this new album and music videos
Reaction to TBH+C album: Summer 2018: Ummmm, weird. Summer 2019: I'm SO glad this album is in their ever-impressive catalogue. Some people said this album grows on you. They were right.
I think the first time you hear it, it’s hard to understand all the statements he is making. I feel like this album should have just a reference page of al the things he talks about lol
Deirdre Kiely I had a very negative knee jerk reaction to this album initially. It’s not the easiest music to listen to, abstract lyrics, unconventional sound I guess, but after randomly listening to Four Stars out of Five one day, it clicked. And then I started listening to all the songs slowly and now it’s easily one of my favourite albums ever
That's especially why it's so commendable that they took such a risk by doing a complete 180 with this album after AM. AM was so much more palatable and 'easier to like' and it shows in the songs that blew up, because they were the closest to mainstream pop/rock and familiar sounding. And they could have kept riding that wave by dropping another similar album. This album isn't as 'easy' because you have to listen to it a few times to let it soak in before you can appreciate it because it's unconventional and not familiar.
Yeah to meat arabella that girl that looks good on the dance floor or on her side with her hands between her tights. to ask her if she's mine and to sit next to me before I go whilst I want to call her anything I want. Eventually I'll get thrown out by the two bouncers outside, you know the one that's alright but the other one is a scary one. Ending up in the riot van. But no matter if it's a 7hour flight or a 45minute drive I'll go back to see arabella.
Art is all about experimentation and expression. If you only like their old stuff then go and listen to that. They're not just going to release the same sounding music every time just to please you.
Sounding different for almost all their albums has become their signature. If people don't like the Monkeys they might not understand the damn genius it takes to cross over between different musical genres - and do it well!
OP: Yeah ikr? I dislike those pop songs that pretty much all sound the same, it gets really boring. I like how AM, despite getting fairly popular, are still making atmospheric, unique and catchy songs. I hope they stay that way. I really love Panic! At The Disco's older songs, specifically from the album A Fever You Can't Sweat Out, but their newer stuff just sounds more like that pop stuff that I don't find interesting at all. And it's a shame. And I should qualify that there's one or two songs that I find kinda good but my overall enjoyment of their newer music is lower.
How can something be so vintage yet so futuristic at the same time

The ULTRACHEESE!
I love how unique the story of this album is... it’s literally about a hotel & casino in space
Not exactly mate
It a virtual hotel in the four out five video there’s a thing that say it there is also a comment on it the video that explains it
Nate Beats it reminds me of Stanley Kubrick's films. Specially the shining and clockwork orange.
Have you never heard space lounge music before?
Should be called Tranquility Bass. Amazing bassline
LYRICS:
Jesus in the day spa filling out the information form
Mama got her hair done
Just popping out to sing a protest song
I've been on a bender back to that prophetic esplanade
Where I ponder all the questions but just manage to miss the mark
Good afternoon
Tranquility Base Hotel and Casino
Mark speaking
Please tell me how may I direct your call?
This magical thinking
Feels as if it really might catch on
Mama wants some answers
Do you remember where it all went wrong?
Technological advances
Really bloody get me in the mood
Pull me in close on a crisp eve baby
Kiss me underneath the moon's side boob
Good afternoon
Tranquility Base Hotel and Casino
Mark speaking
Please tell me how may I direct your call?
Do you celebrate your dark side
Then wish you'd never left the house?
Have you ever spent a generation trying to figure that one out?
Good afternoon
Tranquility Base Hotel and Casino
Mark speaking
Please tell me how may I direct your call?
Thanks

The aesthetic of this album is honestly my favorite thing.
This is more 70s than 70s.

Leo0591 of course
I'd rather say it's more 2018 than 2018. song of the year.
This album is just a masterpiece and each year people see it more and more, “it took the light absolutely forever to get to your eyes”
this video is so perfect, you can just pause it at any minute, print the shot and hang it in the living room and that's what I'm about to do
Maya M. Sounds like a wonderful plan
sounds like something alex would do
Every frame is picturesque
I paused this @2:04 as I was reading your comment, I wouldn’t mind having a shirtless Alex on my living room wall :) haha
1:52 his voice and tone makes me goosebumps every time...For me it's that 80s mood.. Thus album is so aesthetic I can't...
...i think you mean '70's. nothing in this video is 80's
2 shows a day 4 nights a week
I just love all the references to other songs and the four out of five music video, it's like a TBHC cinematic universe
L O easy money
Kasabian did the same thing in their video for looking for some action.
Yeeeeah, all conected!

if you listen to to Tranquility base Hotel and Belladonna of sadness you magically are transported to the 70s.
normal. Times of violences again, we need this kind of music
2:23. OMG THIS IS SO BEAUTIFUL
This is probably the best music video to ever exist
theory:
what if alex is living in a futuristic era where he's rich enough to live in an island, alone, where he went officially insane (made his own hotel, replaying the tapes of his bandmates, and made the hotel vintage with the theme of being 'this is what 70s people think the future would look like', even taking on the personality of a 70s-80s guy, who's name is mark and happens to be a hotel manager)
futuristic idea: most animals went extinct, such as horses and such, which is why he can be seen at 2:35 taking pictures of horses with a vintage camera (again, him trying to replicate the past as he misses living in the past).
evidence of the idea of 'living in a 70s futuristic world':
0:59 him having to use video tapes to reminisce the past even though online video clouds had already been invented?
1:03 him using a rotary phone to talk to the audience 'good afternoon, tranquility base, hotel and casino, mark speaking, please tell me how can i direct your call'
3:20 and more are just box tv screens (or perhaps old computers?) reappearing, showing that alex is in fact, trying to recreate the past
and for the infamous motorcycle scene, is where this is going to sound super *sTRETCHED*.
basically at 3:00 and onwards for a couple of seconds, alex can be seen at a deserted highway. as he sits on the motorcycle still, a guy with another motorcycle happens to pass him by. this may show that alex is trying to escape the mistakes of his past, trying to escape from his whole 'mark' personality because living out his best life *alone* may not be what he wanted. which is why he can be seen at a highway with another guy, and then seen chasing after him with the motorcycle. this mat imply alex's subconcious trying to escape back to reality. but at the 3:30 scene, it shows alex's subconcious wandering an empty road, with clear signs of civilization being around (the lit cinema theatre lights implies that human life may still be active there), trying to find his way back to civilization and leaving the island (thru the highway).at the end, it is up to the viewer to decide how the story ends, which is whether or not alex finds his way to civilization, or the sad reality of him having to live with his mistakes and having to succumb to be forever alone in the abandoned hotel, playing the personality of Mark.
anyways i made this because i thought that the MV itself was super cryptic and i was really bored so i thought that this theory might be really interesting to share. cheers!
Thank you for theorizing I was super confused, well maybe I'm more confused now.
@@ximenasalazar44 I forgot that I ever made this comment and the fact that I spent 30 minutes of my life making this theory. The music video itself is really mesmerizing. tbh, the video reminded me of dissociation for some reason, all those places that are like somewhere in between the past and the future, your way of seeing it is really cool

The music videos for this new album just seriously give me The Shining feels... I LOVE IT!

its all very Kubrick-esque and I love it.
4 years ago! Man, this song feels like it was released last month. Time flies so quickly.

The video is so Kubrick. I totally love this piece of art

Infinity On High-Functioning Sociopath I would call anywhere frequently to hear Alex say anything

So the video is about Alex being locked up in his hotel during the pandemic
such a visionary
Moved it all online as of March...

This comment is underrated as fuk
Both them and the killers really made something different than expected this year

This video is how solitude feels when you're comfortable enough to call it solitude and not isolation
Reaction to TBH+C album:
Summer 2018: Ummmm, weird.
Summer 2019: I'm SO glad this album is in their ever-impressive catalogue.
Some people said this album grows on you. They were right.
Same here! For me it started to make more sense as I heard it over and over. With time sometimes thing’s become clear
I think the first time you hear it, it’s hard to understand all the statements he is making. I feel like this album should have just a reference page of al the things he talks about lol
Same with the album before last
Deirdre Kiely I had a very negative knee jerk reaction to this album initially.
If Alex Turner really opens an Hotel called ''Tranquility Base Hotel and Casino'' I'll make my reservation inmediately.
Me too
Marissa Butterfly good for you
For an entire life.
But no matter if it's a 7hour flight or a 45minute drive I'll go back to see arabella.
same here
not even a whole futuristic 70s hotel in the moon, nor a goatee is gonna make me forget about the cornerstone mv
HAHAHHHAHAH cornerstone is the best thing to ever exist
you gotta be a child to not realise this is their best album, the psychedelia is perfect
It like Justin Timberlake every album is different
@@stevegaravan6997 so is Justin Timberlake
@Xavi Campoverde huh? How is my comments is negative?
OP: Yeah ikr? I dislike those pop songs that pretty much all sound the same, it gets really boring. I like how AM, despite getting fairly popular, are still making atmospheric, unique and catchy songs. I hope they stay that way.
I really love Panic! At The Disco's older songs, specifically from the album A Fever You Can't Sweat Out, but their newer stuff just sounds more like that pop stuff that I don't find interesting at all. And it's a shame. And I should qualify that there's one or two songs that I find kinda good but my overall enjoyment of their newer music is lower.
I feel like Alex is about to sell me a starter kit on Scientology.
that's spot on mate, kudos
