This is indeed a perfect movie for when one wants to take a break from scary clown stuff. People sometimes wonder why they toy with people, and why they leave their noses exposed, if they know it's their weakness. Personally, I think it's 1 of 2 things: (A): Part of their culture. Sort of like a code of honor, that there are certain rules they need to abide by. Similar to the Yautja (Predator) society. They're not actually out to conquer the planet. They just stop by now and then for food, and fun. And perhaps they actually view someone cleaver enough to pop their nose as worthy to have killed one of them. Or (B): There's a level of magic to these things, which binds them to act in certain ways. They have powerful tech, and possibly magic (noticeably stuff like the balloon dog, invisible car, and shadow puppets), but also a compulsion towards all of this clownish behavior. Possibly, if they were to attempt to protect their noses, said noses would pop by themselves. Possibly, their species made some sort of "deal with the devil" type of bargain. They get to be virtually immortal, all this cool stuff and power, but they can't protect their biggest weak point. It would also explain why they self destruct the way they do when nose is popped, instead of just keeling over.

Saw this when it first came out (I was 7!!😱), and it's been one of my favorite cult films ever since. My favorite clown kill has always been the shadow puppet kill. ...switching gears, I just have to mention that your kids are adorable!

Loved this as a kid and still do today.Stupid but fun and creepy in parts. It definitely has a cult following these days.
The ventriloquist scene with officer mooney still gives me goosebumps. Such a chilling scene.

This used to play a lot on HBO and the like, back in the late 80s, early 90s. The 4:3 cut that they used for TV had a major goof in it. When the clown creature comes up out of the toilet, you could see the end of the neck and the puppeteer's arm. Apparently they made the fullscreen version by just uncropping the widescreen one.

The fun part o the movie is that in the 80's there was a glut of horror/slasher/gore flicks vying for your dollar. This movie took all tropes, dropped it into a completely absurd premise and played it straight. Also the practical/make-up FX and set design are top notch.

I'd have to say my favorite kill would be the pie one as well, that was hilarious! My favorite clown is the main one with the spikey red hair, green outfit and blue makeup from the poster. I'm not sure of any of their names but yeah, I think that one is awesome! My favorite clown weapon is definitely the popcorn shooter, that killed me when I saw it!

The sequel has been in development hell since 2012 & for awhile it sounded like it was gonna be a TV-show also. If they do finally make the sequel I do hope it still uses practical effects & not too much cgi. And I wouldn't mind if they turned it rated-R either.

If you want to see a clown that's cute & cuddly like these guys, watch "Terrifier". You'll wanna hug him. (Shhhhh! Don't tell them!😉) Btw, no balloon-dogs were harmed in the making of this movie. It was all trick photography. The balloon-dog is OK.👌Btw again, your little girls are _ADORABLE!!_ 🤗

His name's John Vernon and a lot of his roles in the 80s and horror media involved policemen, so I think he looked at the script of the Chioto brothers and said "Hold on, you're telling me that this Mooney guy is a parody of police work? Buds, this is about as accurate as they come. I'm in."
