@@lelouchvibritannia4028 If it erupts it will kill the United States. If the eruption is not as bad as it could be, it would still cripple us, and we could easily fall into anarchy. That's to say nothing of it's global effects, which would also be disastrous. I don't think it would take down our civilization but it would definitely bend us over collectively as a species and screw us bad.
If your interested in more, there is a great Supervolcano series by Harry Turtledove which is very accurate on what it would be like. It follows people who live in the aftermath of Yellowstone and it is a trip. Imagine gangs of people travelling into the zones to forage from the dead states and sift through the ashes.

The yellowstone volcano as a supervolcano does not blow straight up as stratovolcanos. It travels low to the ground but much further. Check out Nick on the Rock or Nick at Home on youtube. He did his masters on geology fall out from yellowstone. He teaches geology in Washington state. He has a back yard weekly youtube lecture for the general public. So, he has one or two specific lectures about yellowstone supervolcano and some of the problematic dating for the next big one. Loads to learn from him about all kinds of geology.

That's sort of the annoying thing about volcanoes. Scientists have a pretty good idea of what signs means its time to run and pray, but sometimes a volcano won't erupt for 10 or so years after giving all its warnings. And good luck trying to evacuate people in this country from their homes for 10 years. Oh, and did I mention there's a resort in the Mono Lake area? It's a tourist destination with both skiing and hot springs! -_- If humans are still living in that part of the world when it goes again.... It's gonna be BAD... VERY bad....
