Volcanos can be efusive or explosive, the explosive ones rarely spell lava, but they can provide more impressive eruptions!
Yes eruption type very much depends on the magmatic composition most importantly it’s gas content and viscosity

What happened during the White Island Volcano disaster was also pretty bad.. 47 tourists were on the island and were exploring (a company brought them to the island on boats even though the volcano had been showing signs of unrest for weeks beforehand) and then the volcano erupted while they were on there.. 22 people died and survivors said that they could even feel their skin melting off

@Harrison Drews whakaari island was barely active and was still safe to travel to but it's quite unfortunate to the people who lost their lives their. I was born and raised in whakatāne (off the shore of white island) and i've never seen her be THAT active.
@@trixnia463 it was significantly more active in the weeks prior to it erupting and although it was deemed safe at the time, it shouldn't have been. It is why there is an ongoing investigation into 13 companies by WorkSafe who are saying did not meet health and safety requirements. Volcanoes don't just erupt out of no where, there were plenty of signs.

Fun Fact: The Mt. Saint Helen's erruption actually ended up benefitting the nearby apple orchards, which, thanks to the mineral rich ash, produced apples a lot bigger and more juicy compared to previous harvests.

The Tonga eruption/explosion was caused from a new Island that was formed by an underwater eruption in 2015, we could hear the explosion from NewZealand which is almost 2500km away, it formed in the middle of 2 existing islands to form one, the before and after photos are a must see. Unfortunately there were 3 fatalities, Prayers to my fams and everyone in Tonga❤🙌🏽

@@dillonfernandes3361 yeah that one sorry I worded it wrong, the volcano that had just erupted, was the same one that erupted back in 2015 which formed a new island in the middle and connected 2 existing islands, my bad.
3 fatalities is actually pretty good, especially when the island was so close to the eruption plus they also had to face a tsunami.

In NZ there are volcanoes everywhere. The biggest being lake Taupo
Volcanologists know the approximate time of an eruption due to small tremors and signs however they cannot always pinpoint the exact eruption time which is why it is a problem for volcanologists to know when to evacuate towns. Definitely one of the coolest natural phenomenon though

When the ash comes down the people who have never experienced that need to know that you can get 2-3 feet of ash after about 30 mins and you have to wear special gear to clean it up.

From what I've heard predicting the beginning of an eruption is the easy part. The hard part is predicting when the eruption would end and how much more damage it would cause.
Actually predicting the exact beginning of an eruption is extremely difficult. You can get tell tale signs an eruption is possibly soon or the risk of eruption is high such as increase in seismic activity, the type of seismic activity and the increase emission of volcanic gases but knowing exactly when an eruption will take place is near enough impossible
When the eruption will end can normally best roughly estimated on the magma chamber size, magmatic composition and referenced against historical eruptions of that volcano

Basically you don’t see lava because it solidifies when it cools really quickly.
The reason the footage of Mt. St. Helen's side sliding down like liquid looks so odd is because it's actually a series of pictures taken as it was happening that were then stitched together with CGI to turn it from a sideshow into a smooth video.

How can a video get better than this.
I've been helping to count up donations to Tonga at my rugby club recently, without really knowing the context of what had happened. So now knowing the extent of the damage, I must say, I hope our smidge over 400 quid so far can at least help to some degree.

Ash is much more dangerous than lava. In particular, the pyroclastic flow, which can reach 700 km / h and can have up to 1000 degrees. Take a look at the White Island eruption in 2019. Where there were 47 people on the island at the time of the eruption, of which 22 people died and the others were very badly injured

How does someone film a volcano erupting, but can't film school fights
The initial eruption will not have much lava as that flows down the side over the coming hours. With explosive eruptions a pyroclastic flow is a common feature with large ash clouds. The pyroclastic flow is one of the main killers from volcanic eruptions

I've been to the Mount Saint Helen's viewpoint, I watched this documentary about it there and 2 or 3 people chose to die to the eruption. They already lived there anyways and they were older and they just felt it was their time. Visiting it in person was really cool too cause you could see the ecosystem growing back and life slowly reforming
yeah, one of the scientists alerted hq about the eruption right when it hit him, another man refused to evacuate with his cats and he died from the landslide, a third guy died in his car shielding photographs of the incoming pyroclastic flows, the photos that guy preserved were crazy though.
The lack of geographical knowledge makes this so much better to watch

The Mt St Helens eruption was different than most eruptions. So much pressure built up within the Volcano that it erupted horizontally.
