Shout Out Strider Bikes, I applied to get bikes for my Kindergarten-First Grade P.E. classes. Fingers cross we get funded, at some point, it's a great opportunity.
Thanks for the opportunity to show you around our back yard Brian! Come back any time. Brock and I would be more than happy to put you on a ton of other absolutely awesome trails in the Black Hills! Even one sweet one near Rushmore ;)
Visited Rushmore this summer, was amazing and I definitely recommended seeing it in person even if a bit touristy. Saw Crazy Horse as well which was also very impressive. I don’t appreciate the knock on our national monuments or veiled political statements, stick with mountain biking videos and information about the trails, terrain and gear.
Underdog bro mtb is one of the things without politics in it rn. the only thing that’s political in mtb is e bikes or no. Just please don’t ruin it with politics. it’s not that deep
Let us know if you ever make it out this way Josh, We would be happy to take you on some rides and show you Strider HQ and some of the awesome things All Kids Bike is doing to get cycling into kindergarten curriculums everywhere!
For all of you dogging on his comment about Mt. Rushmore. Take it easy and stop reading politics into it. I live here, see Mt Rushmore often. I appreciate its history, but honestly it is a Tourist trap. You have to remember, he was here during peak season and during the Rally. I am sure there was a multiple-mile long line from Keystone all they way up. Not to mention the congestion of Keystone and the black hills. I commend his comment to reach beyond Mt. Rushmore, we have a lot to offer like Custer State Park, Badlands, all the caves, etc. Sure go drive by it, but spend your time elsewhere. If you are a history buff, then spend more time there. But Brian was here for the trails! (Though there is much better riding outside of HLMP 😉)
Strong words about Mt. Rushmore. 😅 Born and raised in Rapid City; dad was a law enforcement ranger there and I spent my teenage years working there in the summers. What I tell people is “wait until your kids are old enough to remember then go visit” usually follow by “then don’t go back”. But the place has a special place in my heart - also, the view from the top of the monument is amazing. Glad you enjoyed Hanson Memorial. Definitely come back in the future - the Black Hill is absolutely full of incredible riding. Edit: and make absolutely sure you don’t come back during the Sturgis Rally! At lot of friends and family skip town while it’s going on.
You've been giving me some hope with this 50 state shred. Giving me inspiration to do my own 50 state shred next year. #BKXC2020 #GIVEITTHEBEANS #PAINANDPLEASURE
I live in Minnesota and had no idea SD had trails like this. Looks like a trip to SoDak is in order once Covid Terror is over. Love the Upper Midwest vids! Thanks for a great series.
Great video as always Brian and thanks for sharing your journey with us all. I'll definitely have to add the Black Hills to my bucket list. Some serious chunk out there from the looks of it. Love it.
On most of my road trips I end up eating gas station food. Pooping trailside is never pleasant, but sometimes it is very necessary. I withhold judgement until I get the entire story.
Awesome man!! Glad you made it to my home state of south Dakota. I go back and ride MTB every summer and it keeps getting better and better. Sturgis as you know hosts the largest motorcycle rally in the world and now they are focusing on mountain biking. The Sturgis trail system is becoming legit and it's also supported by the city making it really good. Spearfish has a few fun trails but lots of great trails just outside of rapid city. The region offers a full weeks worth of riding with beautiful scenery and as you said, absolutely crazy weather. Storms will roll in from out of nowhere and drop the biggest most damaging hail you've ever seen and lots of lightning and heavy rain in a matter of minutes. Thanks for sharing! I live in Arizona now so full time all year around riding here as you know.
Nice to see Sturgis diversifying, they also know the motorcycle rally is not going to draw the crowds for too much longer as many of the Harley riding demographic get too old to ride. The Black Hills are one giant tourist trap, so they need to stand out if they want to keep the tourists coming. And the entire Black Hills economy is based on tourism.
@@mrvwbug4423 the rally will never die. It gets bigger and bigger every year. They thought this year was going to be a dud due to covid and they were thinking maybe 250k people would show up but almost 500k showed up. People from all over the world come to this rally and with social media it only gets better as more people learn about it. I'm just glad the mountain biking is kicking ass there now. When I lived there 20 years ago there were no trails. Now it's a destination for out of state people to enjoy!
Growing up in Rapid City, the trails on M Hill weren't sanctioned, and mostly used for illegal 4 wheeling. Now when we come back to Rapid, I drag my Mountain Bike along for HLMP, and all the other places to ride in the Black Hills. Awesome to watch a BKXC video and know that he took the cut across on West Main by Shooters, and then out Deadwood Ave.
Man it is so incredible to see a big name shredding my local trails. The Black Hills has some amazing riding and it's awesome seeing them from an outsiders perspective!
Nice video. When you go to Mt. Rushmore you realize how much smaller it is than it looks in the pictures. It’s still very large just not like the pictures make it seem. Still a sight to see. Black Hills and Badlands were awesome tho!
I hacked the cranks off of a little kid bike to help both my boys learn to ride (long before Strider was around). Worked like a charm; let them gain balance and control without fear. Glad to see Strider making the concept work as a business!
As you were going through the rocky areas, I was seeing alternate black and double black options EVERYWHERE, and it was killing me! I get why they go around that stuff to keep it manageable for most riders, but those larger rocks just looked like a little bit of effort with a mini-x or a good old fashioned come along, could make some ridiculously cool tech riding!
Rode M Hill passing through SD a few years back - some seriously good trails! Plenty of other stuff around there as well, worth taking the northern route if you're driving from the midwest/northeast out west.
Hey Brian thanks for the recommendation! On a road trip from OR to MN I made sure to stop here. That top rock garden at 6:10 was one fo the best rock gardens I've ridden
You all climbed the black trail and descended the blue. i think you all took the better way too, the blue is longer and has all them berms to fly around :)
That's my home town!! Too bad I moved away before I got in to MTB as much as I am now, but my family is all there still so get to ride that stuff often. Endless amounts of great riding both in town and in that entire area, but Sturgis and all.
FYI...SRAM batteries can be activated just sitting in the back of your van while you are driving...Take them out when you drive between locations to preserve the charge...motion wakes up the batteries...that could be a big contributor to the fast drain you are experiencing if the batteries are "working" while you sre driving between locations = hours of battery usage.
@@MrTom5 Really depends on what you're looking for. Centennial trail has great XC type riding. Bone collector , Storm mountain, and Victoria Lake are technical/rocky trails near rapid city. Sturgis and Spearfish also have tons of great trails.
You are pretty safe in your van during a lightning storm. You're safe in a car because the lightning will travel around the surface of the vehicle and then go to ground. The metal, being a good conductor, would direct the current around the objects and discharge it safely to the ground.
I heard so many bad things about MT Rushmore, don't go you can see anything it to far away. I wanted to bike around Rapid city this year and with the US parks pass it would have been a nice end to the day
Hi Brian , Great to see you still out there on your journey Aside from the odd battery issue , how has ASX been Considering an upgrade and would really like your feedback Cheers Rich The on at the back of BCBR
Another video of some great trails, great PR for the area. Not a fan of electronics on a bicycle, so have to be honest, chuckle a bit at all the battery nightmares you have, especially since according to SRAMs literature, the rear derailleur battery should last about 20 hours and the seatpost 40 hours and you don't seem to be getting even close to that.
If you aren't doing it already, take the batteries off of the bike when you travel. I think the derailleur and dropper wake up when the van is on the move.
I think he might have done that already. He went down by St George and Hurricane for the Utah portion of the 50 state shred, he rode the infamous Flying Monkey pro line.
Was so great to have you come visit Brian! Come back anytime! Can't wait to see your niece's progress on her sweet Strider Bike!

Go see Mount Rushmore, it might have become a touristy place, but it is still a significant monument to our Nation and its history
Desecration of native American sacred land, you mean
@@dougiegraham662the Lakota or the Cheyenne Indian Nation? The Lakota took it from the Cheyenne so are we upset with the Lakota too?

Lol, someone from the west coast seeing a "once in a lifetime thunderstorm" that happens a few times a month on the great plains.
Liked the trails, loved the stories, and learned something about Strider Bikes. Thanks man!

We’d love to have you back out here! I’ve lived in SD most of my life and it is definitely my favorite place in the world!
I go to Mines, my roommate took me on my first real MTB ride on those same trails....I threw up and now love to bike.
I went to college at SDSMT, so the SMT up there is for my school. I used to ride M-Hill all the time, super fun trails for being right in Rapid.

All these problems with shifting and seat posts are exactly why I won’t go electric.
Here, here
The price makes me instantly say no
Nothing wrong with a cable in the first place
Yeah... I don’t foresee me transitioning to any kind of “fly by wire” system. I have enough batteries to charge in my life as it is.
700 quid for a derailleur.. Smash that on the trail, and I'm gonna be crying like a child!
