@9:45 I lifted my bike over a tree like the one here and got sap on my rotor. Let me tell you that wasn't fun. Pro tip: if you lift your bike over a fallen tree do NOT get sap on your rotor, its not fun!
Thanks for mentioning the poop pickup. More folks need to know how to responsibly deal with their poop in the woods. That was a huge moment in outdoor youtube history!
Was in Jackson wyoming earlier this year. Most beautiful place I've ever seen. Rented bikes up there and road some of the trails too. I didn't want to come back home. Wish I stayed there.....
Me being a noob to mountain biking it’s good to see someone strolling through the trail like you did in the beginning that’s how I would take all my trails instead of going fast!! 😀
This was one of my favorite videos of your Shred Series. Not the craziest trails or riding, but a great solo exploration and discovery, faced some adversity and unknown with the trees and trail conditions, and then you persevered and got an amazing payoff. You even got to see some wildlife and take a dump in the woods. That’s what riding is all about - getting out there and exploring and having an adventure and fun.
I live in Steamboat & my bud lives in Jackson. Earlier in Sept., we both had snowstorms that turned out to be huge wind events. Both areas had hundreds of not thousands of healthy trees go down. The wind came in from the east which was unusual. Up to 100 mph winds . So, that's what your going through. And in Jackson Hole there aren't freak snow storms, it's just always crazy weather. Usually you don't have to worry about moose unless you have a dog.
my dream is a UK 48 county shred! lol, please don't sue me for copyright if i ever do it on my channel haha! first I need to learn how to ride then by a van!loving your content man!!!!!
My trip to Utah was canceled earlier this year due to COVID, but I bid get to ride in 4 different states this year. CT, MA, NH and VT. Did the New England riding tour lol. Love the videos man, keep up the awesome riding content 👍.
This is just one guys opinion but these videos where you solo ride just hit different. They feel more raw in a good way. Even with a tree down every other minute. But all your videos are pretty good.
Funny, I just rode Black Canyon last weekend while on our Yellowstone trip. Same conditions as you had with snow and trees down but the trails were amazing!
What an amazing way for you to quarantine. Out on the trail getting fresh air and vitamin D. I have been trying to do the same thing only closer to home. You will come out of this with such a better mental state. I've been on Teton Pass before and remember how remote you can feel up there. Kind of unnerving at times. The moose was super cool. Glad you have stayed healthy. Thanks for taking us with you on this epic journey. Always exciting when a new video pops up.
Hope you enjoyed my home state! Next time in Wyoming hopefully you can hit lithium and the other higher trails. Next time through the state you should also check out all the rad riding in southeast Wyoming. Curt Gowdy, happy Jack, snowy range mountains are all pretty dang cool riding spots!
Well, lets hope HJ stays fun, but they are busy "rebuilding" the more interesting trails. Aspen got turned into a very generic blue and Haunted Forest was completely redone and is a boring featureless green now, goat trail was officially closed.
@@mrvwbug4423 I heard that the reroutes are boring and meant to keep riders speed down...so unfortunate... the forest service really screwed the pooch there... Goat is officially closed??? No!! Not like it was ever technically open though lol
@@Tkolbo_ Goat was taken out of Trailforks when they changed HF, and it no longer connects to HF. I suppose it's still there if you can find the entrance, but no longer has an exit. Aspen is truly boring, but at least runs well in both directions now. HF is potentially fast, but all the corners are flat and there are no features, the fast, open section past the Aspen cutoff is untouched, but was never really a selling point of HF.
I saw Brian riding up to the snow covered skinny and I had a flashback... Don't do it because I tried riding frozen woodwork once and had the hardest fall of my life. I went down from walking speed with no warning at all. Nothing better than getting up early when the air is cold and fresh. Nice ride.
It's also super helpful around the Tetons, the near total lack of broadleaf vegetation can lead to some unfortunate wiping scenarios when you're in a bind
Yes, but, you would have to be there to hear the tree fall...(if a tree falls in the forest and no one is around, does it make noise?) LOL, great views!
Great video as usual! Thought you might have a diesel heater fitted in the van? You could split the pipes too and make a heated cupboard to dry your gear too.
After the 50 state tour I’d enjoy an episode about your camping. Could you spell you how you camp so close to the trails ? How do resource permits, passes and reservations ?
17:08 Leave no trace. I do the same... just use a stick, dig a hole, use a paper and cover the hole with dirt... or rocks... Like you have never been there... ;-)
Man i really hope at the end of the 50 state shred you give us mayb your top 3 or even top ten riding spots! It would also be cool if you posted up your total miles ridden on the bike as well for all 50 states mayb even additional stats as well like total calories burned/top speed/average speed things like that not sure if you use a tracker to keep tabs on that stuff I’m sure your tacking your miles at least! Another great spot/video also man!
Was just thinking about going to ride a new area of trails that I only hiked yet, in Bromont ;) I don't know if you rode that part of the mountain, its more like on the other side of the mountain compared to the ski station area. Very cool trails!
I know what you mean about the birds, I ran into that cold front in Western Kansas and the snow in Eastern Colorado and I hit 4 birds in my Jeep JKU...crazy
Welcome to WY... not unusual at all to see snow in early or late summer. Especially in the high country....then all bets are off at practically any time of the summer.
Nice dodge at 14:26. I probably wouldn't have seen that in time and impaled myself on it. Hope that gets cleared soon 'cause that tree was super dangerous.
Summer ended over a month ago. Colorado got snow on Sept 8. For those wanting to take trips to the mountain West states to ride I suggest July-Sept for best conditions.
14:27 That was scary!!! That could have been really bad. WOW! Oh and I did ride something new last week. I posted part I of video I shot on my site. Minto New Brunswick Canada has one wicked trail system.
The tree critter was definitely an American Marten, they are common in the higher elevations in Wyoming. The downed trees are not normal, that early September storm brought down a lot of trees in the rocky mountains in general. We had big problems with downed trees in southern Wyoming as well after that storm. As for trail ratings, it depends on the area. I suspect a more touristy area like Teton Pass will be more honest. Southeast Wyoming is notoriously underrated on both Trailforks and MTB Project, plus a few that are comically overrated.
You have an incredible territory with incredible landscapes in your country and I really have a little envy (good envy) of the mountains there, but, this climate ... Jesus! Not at all! I have never been at a temperature of 2 ° C in my life but I am quite sure that I would not come out from under a blanket even if the world was ending outside. :)
That tree at 14:25 though..... Gave me goosebumps
Yes, imagine seeing that just half a second too late... Yikes
I literally jumped
Holy crap!! 😳
Woo that was close
finally eats something besides McDonalds , makes egg mcMuffin
And then has to shit on the ride...hmmm🤣🤣
