Desktop Motherboard Does not Start, Dead, No Power : Check These Things First On ANY MOTHERBOARD

- These checks should be the first ones you make on any motherboard that does not power up at all. Use this method on just about any motherboard, old or new, and you should quickly get some idea of where the problem lies so you can investigate further.

It turns out one of the ATX power supplies the customer used had very unstable outputs which were going HH (over voltage) when I connected it to my ATX analyser
You are correct, it is the 5vsb from atx to 3.3Vsb regulator that powers the superio, it is an APL5315BI-TRL, in the msi the fried component UP0104s fulfills the same function 3vsb, on pin 6
Hi Richard, the dead LDO is a Ricoh R1121N371B from the R1121N series of chips. A LOW NOISE 150mA LDO REGULATOR.
PINOUT"
1 - Vout
2 - GND
3 - Vdd
4- CE (chip enable)
5 - NC

The guy probably has one poison pill PSU that's killing everything he connects to it.
24:00 I think it says S7-00 at the top and that chip is UP7710M5-00
Mmmm good find, I did search for S7-00 myself but didn't see this
@@davidrobertson1980 i searched "S7-00 ic" and the first result was the chip
I couldn't find a datasheet for it, but the -00 suggests it is variable and the 1.1V on pin 5 is probably the reference, should probably be 0.7V at 3V output. The difference between the input and output voltages will be the dropout voltage.
@@chrishartley1210 I wonder does the ASA175 stamp refer to the output voltage 1.75. I found part R1131D171D with similar specs under the "S7" SMD code.
I can guess what's happened to that voltage regulator. Right next to it is a jumper marked Clear RTC. If the system was powered up with the jumper in the clear position it probably shorts the chip and lets the smoke out.
I will ask the owner when he calls in later today
No. The rtc clear jumper simply clears the cmos memory (which is inside the large square heatsinked southbridge chip) by removing the power held in nearby capacitors and shunting it to ground but it does it through a resistor on the board.... manufacturers are smart and they know clueless people would blow up the board if a power line was shorted to ground while powered on. Powering on a motherboard with the cmos clear jumper in either position won't hurt anything.
Cool..
Motherboard has a phase for the onboard graphics and the ram, next to the vrm to the cpu.
Thanks for the info. I've seen that in laptop motherboards but not noticed in in desktop CPU though I almost only find intel ones
ASUS F1A75-M Mainboard
Heya, that's 2 holes in 1 video nice, but no not really. wel I see some idea's in the comment or are we going in a rabbit hole wel 1 more hole doesn't matter das it richard would like to see a 2st vlog with the ideas in the commants
Onya Dickie, this was interesting tried ASA175 etc and A8A A9A ASM etc. no luck there either
You're great! I'm learning so much on your channel.
