Regarding the short; I probable would have check to see if the short was gone before soldering the new cap on. Time saver I guess one way and the other component saver. Nice video.
Another C5564 bites the dust, by far the most common failure on these model Asus! It's the first place I look when I get one of these on my desk.
I didn't know that was a common fault as I don't repair laptops so often. Any idea why it fails?
Regarding the screws: I use a magnetic mat which you can draw on with whiteboard markers. Basically the same concept, but no fiddling with stick tape.
That works until you need to wait for replacement parts to arrive. Of course you can always put it back together while you wait
@@LearnElectronicsRepair Point taken. Although I'm not sure I'd trust the sticky tape either when things get shuffled around in a busy workshop. One might be better off to just bag and label all screws and store a sketch with their positions along, if one is in for a longer wait.
I've learned to memorize it if it just Asus. Asus at most have 3 types of screws on the back. Inside you have 2 more types. If it's the wrong type of screw, you can't tighten in good, so don't force it. Relative medium difficulty. Hardest might be if it's an old c2d laptops from 2008, literal nightmare to disasamble and put it back on. My advice is don't bother and reject the job 😅@@LearnElectronicsRepair
years ago i brought 2 loads of "blue tac" from the pound shop and rolled it out to the size 12x8 inch tin lid and just pop the outer screws on outa most bit and the inner screws on the inner bit works a treat.
Brilliant Rich. Your videos are magic, thanks very much
Heya, good you did the sort test before you got further with the sio chip. nicely found that cap
i watched this at 2x speed and saved 20 min... By the way i am still using my P2 pro thermal camera , is working very well, costed my about 210 euro on BF. I know you have one as well , seen the review here.
You expect to find the shorted component near the shorted area then the thermal cam sends you to the other side to find a tiny cap shorted very useful tool to have tbh nice fix
Great idea re screws. I normally use those small bags labelled with where they came from, but your method is great for when they use different types of screw in the same panel!
Good Video and very good repair.
The little ir cam is amazIng 🥳👍👍
Yeah I'm quite impressed with that
I always put the screws back to their place even if they're of the same size lol i never mix them together when taken off nice to see you doing the same
Take a picture, print it, and tape the screws
If you record your repair anyways you could also just get yourself some box with many little compartments which you label with numbers and throw the screws or other parts in. During reassembly you can then refer to your vid and see "ah, battery was fixed with the screw in compartment 6".
Yes that would also work. Another advantage is that I often spot things I missed by watching my own videos back. This of course depends if you have good high resolution cameras with a decent amount of zoom
5:22 your metod ain't bad but there are magnetic trays/mats that you can write on . those sound more efficeient than your metod
as your taping why not just tape screws next to their hole , at least for the outer case
Never thought of that. It would certainly work 😀
Like a boss🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉 nice sir
i use magnets i get from dead harddrives rather than tape. probably not the best method but we use what we have at hand.
i use ziplock bags and use one for the case and the other for motherboard screws etc don't think i've seen a laptop with different case screws except for Macbooks
I knew it was a cap before you even open it up !! I do the same thing with the screws... on a other note Richard when will there be a follow up on that power amp ?? do you have a dummyload capable to test that amp ? do you need to build one ? will you make a video about it when you got to build one ? you need a dummyload that is 10 % more then the power that the amp can delliver at the outputs !! anyway great video 70% of the time it is a capacitor when a laptop won't boot
I did post a pinned comment on the power amp, I'll have some TIP50 here after the weekend. No I don't have a load that I can test it with but we can see if we get it working
@@LearnElectronicsRepair you have to be sure it all works as it should or it will blow in seconds once some power gets asked !!
with those poweramps you got to put it just before clipping and make sure everything tracks ok ... and to do that you do need a dummyload.. don't take it too lightly this is dangerous if it is not completely tested..
Can't find this thermal multimeter ET135 Dickie, doncha have it listed up there?
Ahh that's because it is ET13S
th-cam.com/video/liEOEgmPTm8/w-d-xo.html links and review here but I think the discount codes may have expired. It worked out about €130 with the discount
I like that thermal camera. One think I hate about my multi-meter is that it does not remember what mode it was in the last time I used it and it goes to sleep after 15 mins, it still doesn't remember the setting when you wakes it up. I think all meters that have software running them should have options like this. I think that thermal camera/meter would be king if it also had Bluetooth, That's what I was looking for when I got my multi-meter.
This doesn't remember the last mode you used, but you can set it to always boot in whatever mode you prefer. It does have the Mr Bleep diode test function :-) It was about €130 with the discount codes th-cam.com/video/liEOEgmPTm8/w-d-xo.html
what cap farrad did u use or the other tech use? 10u or 22u for powerrail?
I used a 4.7uF here I honestly don't believe the value is very critical
i thought no ram must be soldered to the board love that thermal camera multimeter to
Yeah I really like the ET13S multimeter/IR cam. I did review it and didn't notice all the features at the time. It even has a proper Me Bleep style diode test mode. There were some discount codes on that video which brought this down to about €130. They may be expired now but you can take a look. th-cam.com/video/liEOEgmPTm8/w-d-xo.html I thoroughly recommend this ET13S
Have you an AliExpress link to that thermal camera multimeter
The link is on my review video from 10 days ago but I think the special offer may have expired by now, it was €130
th-cam.com/video/liEOEgmPTm8/w-d-xo.html
generally i just unscrew and place beside screwhole and take a pic on the phone
5:00 - Im piercing paper with screws, its faster and easier, and I make sketch like you.
my first thought after watching you test the psu was, "did he check the charging socket?"
Seems that was my second or third thought...
I think the term injecting voltage might be better. I think you've even said on this channel that voltage is like pressure, just like pressing a syringe to inject a vac-... Uh... Vitamin booster. (Trying to avoid controversy but not sure if innoculations or addictions are a more heated topic). Current is drawn from the potential difference... Just like a phebotomist using a negative potential difference to draw a vial of blood.
Side note: I had some blood tests done last week (including a lead test, just out off curiosity from all the soldering) and my phebotomist had a sign in her office that said "The only time it's a good thing to hear 'Is it in yet?'" and I think I want to find a new phebotomist.
Surely you apply pressure, therefore you apply voltage. The pressure can of course inject something like fluid or current
The syringe is like voltage. It applies pressure. The vaccine is like the current. It is injected. You don't inject the syringe.
Why did you try to shoehorn a conspiracy theory into a laptop repair video? Weirdo.
You could use blutack instead of double sided sticky tape.
What is blutack ???
@@Lightrunner. I thought they had that everywhere www.google.com/search?client=firefox-b-e&q=blu+tack
@@LearnElectronicsRepair ohh 😳 Thx Richard 👍.
on that models the fault is always that cap... ;)
Is this from personal experience diangnosing that?
@@LearnElectronicsRepair yes it is. Almost every fault one that model is that cap shorted ... Greattings from Portugal 🇵🇹 🌟
Another cap bites the dust. Without voltage (or potential difference for the pedantic amongst us), you wouldn't get current, well, not according to my teachers. Think of the fun renaming all those voltage injectors and re-educating the world.
That's a lot of effort for the screws. Generally speaking, shorter screws go up front, longer at the back, the sides can be either long or short depending on the model, so just leave them until last and you'll be golden, yeahhhh!
The problem I find is quite often I have to order some part which of course will take 4-6 weeks to get here as often as not and by then I don't know what went where unless I do something like this and then keep the sheet with the screws in the box with the laptop. Certainly if i do something like a PS5 I have a problem as there are so many different screws. Of course I'm always open to suggestions on how to do this better
Thanks, Richard. Great walking through and seeking the problem. Next, walk through an explanation of current distribution in a system, from high to low, and going high back on paper please 🙏 thanks and be blessed in Jesus Christ name amen
and to the other viewers ... 7 views and only 1 like (from me) come on guys like this video !!!
Give it time. TH-cam doesn’t update the counters in realtime.
I have no more thumbs to like, twice are gone at Richard Video from yesterday😭😭
Interestingly I have at least one dislike on this video: Note to self, must do better. Note to dislikee, what's the point in clicking dislike if you don't also comment so I have some clue where I could have done better 🙄
@@LearnElectronicsRepair It must have been handy Andy who disliked this video 😀
