Nothing creates dust like using a wood burning stove. We heated our house for years and years with nothing but a wood burning stove heater. I loved the heat from it and heated our home like nobodys business and saved us so much money, due to the fact we did not have to buy the wood for it. Loved cutting wood for the stove every fall. BUT. The ash dust, smoke, soot and the stacked wood in the house created an immense and non ending mess. I learned why there was such a thing in the old days of 'spring cleaning'. The house needed cleaning from ceiling to floor. Including windows and curtains, walls and everything else.

Do the newer wood stoves create less dust / ash or contain it better?

I am so glad to see that all your plates and glasses dont match. One of my things is to go to thrift stores and pickup really nice glasses for cheap. Coffee cups too. I wash everthing by hand so I crack a few on the sink, but I use old restaurant ware for dishes and havent broke one in a long time. You have a lovely kitchen and the new cabinet is perfect. Great video!

I appreciate your emphasis on 'saving' up for something you really want, as we all tend to lean toward instant gratification which can create so many domino issues the coveted object simply cannot override in the end. Anticipation, the old feeling we had as children awaiting our birthdays, holidays, etc., was a very important part of life. And the satisfaction of working - and waiting for something - which aids in the development of patience, is such an vital part of raising children and such an important state of mind in a frenzied, hectic world. You are teaching your children well.

My 1910 log cabin has an unfitted kitchen- tore out the 70's kitchen and moved it. All cabinets and sink were free side of road finds. I love the look and would never go back.

I get you on the mason jars. Except for my antique blue ones, I do love to look at them, and are mostly for looks. But I have so many uses for the mason jars. Years ago when I had a very small kitchen and not much storage, my pint mason jars replaced my drinking glasses. Because they were multi purpose. We could drink out of them or i could use them to store anything liquid. I used quart size, wide mouth, to put left over soup and stews in. They take up less room in the fridge and they are great for transporting foods as gifts to others. And I still use my mason jars for these things. I even freeze my green smoothies in them. My dried herbs go in them and other dried food items, I some times will store in them. Currently I have elderberry syrup and Fire Cider in them. And I have some homemade sauer kraut in my fridge now in a quart size. Leftover coffee from the morning? Pour it in a mason jar and stick it in the fridge to reheat later. (yes. I don't waste anything. Even in my bigger kitchen, I still drink from a pint size mason jar. I even take them outside to drink from. Put a lid on when I set it down to keep bugs out of it LOL. Using them for all these things, means I don't need a bunch of other drinking and storage containers cluttering up my cabinets. As for my extra jars? I store them in the attic and some under a bed, for canning. The only mason jars that are seen constantly are my very old and special and original blue ball canning jars with the old zinc lids. I have all sizes and I adore them and never tire of looking at them.

Darling, concerning your house and its condition, may be this old advice helps. Earlier in the days people used to decorate their houses with boards. It was made for both decorative and practical purposes. Also they coped with the cracks in wood putting there the mixture of slaked lime and rye flour.

I agree about the perfectionism of most kitchens. I don't do as much as you in the kitchen, but I cook three meals a day and pressure can. I need to get the same mid set of eliminating things from my kitchen, it just is so cluttered. I find though, when I put appliances away, I don't use them, I don't know why that happens. You're giving , me things to think about for sure. I also have mismatched plates and glasses and love them. I hated the idea of getting rid of a set because you break several plates, it's such a waste. I never thought of silverware. I am planning on painting my kitchen cabinets soon with chalk and then sealing them, not waxing. It's suppose to make it so much better, I guess I'll find out, lol. We ended up converting a downstairs bedroom to a long term pantry also and really, it helps so much. I don't make cheese all the time, but like to so things like that go down to the pantry. Love having a space to keep items to make creams and salves, soap, seeds, long term foods, extra this and that. Mason jars, grrr, I am forever stacking them on the dining table till I get case to take down to the pantry. Now of course we're bringing them up to can.

I think you make your home work very well for your family!!! I love your new cabinet!!
I live in an 1880 New England home which is now two apartments. My kitchen is tiny and the former owner had put 70's cheap cabinets in (and they hold very little in them) I added open shelving to help me have a more storage. I have a pegboard (Like Julia Child's husband Paul installed in her Massachusetts home) that holds my pots and pans. I call it the Makeshift Diner (A named coined by my Granddaughter for my Camper Kitchen)...It seemed to fit here too. I took a nook down the hall from the kitchen and made it into a "makeshift" pantry that I call "The Mercantile" I made things as pretty as I can. I am also a visual person.

    Hello....PLEASE READ.
use 2 watch every video of yrs over a yr ago, then got sidetracked 2 more similar 2 yrs and started watching more herbal channels.
Anyway heard one of my fav channels mentioned you and thought I'd check u out and c what's new.
Yr hubby does, yr hair has changed, children have grown and 2new dogs.
    Puppy is cute.
I'm not impressed with u letting yr puppy hang it's head out the window while driving in vehicle.
Such a dangerous thing 2 do.
Bugs in the air hitting puppy eyes can literally damage them and also go up their nose with impact.
My veterinarian says this is so dumb 2 do. They get many who come in with actual rocks from the road flying into their faces and ears.
Just ask a motor cyclist why they wear leather, goggles and full head gear!
Other vehicles going buy throw loose debris from their side.
Let me ask u this... wld u allow yr children 2 hang their heads out the window?
Hopefully in yr next video u will mention why u think this is OK!
I got excited watching yr video 2 that point and had 2 pause 2 txt you. I know yr smarter than that. You probably just thought it was a cute innocent thing 2 show.
