Chu, you hit the nail on the head with the body dysmorphia scene. That’s my favorite scene in the whole film because it truly captures that feeling of self-hatred and insecurity that so many of us have felt. It actually means so much to me as a woman watching a man connect so deeply with the emotional storytelling of this scene. Demi looks great. You look great. We just have trouble seeing it sometimes.
After watching this reaction, the scenes definitely stayed with me. This movie seems like a psych horror/body horror for women. I love that. It’s so well done. For me, it’s very effective
Im trying to figure out what made longlegs so different, overall I did still enjoy the movie, but either the pace, or the ending felt off to me. While this film was fast paced, hyperbolic, and even with a similar run time, the movie didn't drag at all.
It's so heart-breaking. Apparently when they were filming they kept escalating the scene each take and the production crew had to intervene as they were worried she was going to really hurt herself
You are one of the sweetest, most handsome and wholesome reactors on YT and most definitely NOT a loser. You are a wonderful person. I love the way you speak so respectfully about women in general, and aging women especially, you are an example to many! And you have just given a 52-year old hope that she can feel beautiful again and I cannot thank you enough for that ❤

The writing, the casting, the wardrobe and the set design(I'd love to see these teams winning awards: I wonder if the yellow trenchcoat is an ode to IT movie, depicting Elisabeth as this lonely individual who becomes an easier target/victim of the monster of our society).
I was really disturbed by this movie. What I got from it is, yes, society is the problem and beauty standard imposed mostly on woman, especially in the industry. But from my perspective it is more of an internal dilemma and self-hate. Sue is all of our voices in our heads, telling us what is supposedly wrong with us, comparing us, telling us to disrespect our bodies in order to be loved and valued. It's a very sad story about losing yourself because you believed you have no value anymore. In the end they became two separate entity because she lost what was her real self, ultimately losing everything. That was, beyond crazy and frightening but very real.
Demi will be 62 in November. That’s just crazy to me to look that good at that age. She served and she needs an Oscar nomination. If she gets snubbed at the Oscars this year I will no longer consider the Oscars a true award system. Them snubbing Toni Collette for Hereditary so if they do it to Demi I’m completely done. I SAID THIS WAS A MODERN DAY DEATH BECOMES HER! ppl did not agree with me 🤣 You are so good and picked up on the same themes I did! I work in aesthetics and this reminds me of celebrities like Christina aguliara popping out with seemingly younger, skinner, prettier versions of themselves. Was waiting for your reaction. Saw this 3 times in theaters because of its effect on me was so impactful. The acting, cinematography, sound direction, and elizasue all perfect. Oh and that yellow coat deserves an award
i think it's important to note that Sue is not human, and I believe she's not really conscious when she murdered elisabeth because elisabeth's consciousness is still inside elisabeth, that's why when she died, Sue finally felt the regret and panic like how a real human would feel because elisabeth's consciousness went back to Sue. edit: basically, waking up Sue was useless and a huge mistake because at that point, Sue is still nothing but a piece of meat. A machine with batteries but no control setting.
I think you got the body dysmorphia interpretation spot on. I thought the exact same thing watching that scene with her getting ready for the date. I used to have bad body dysmorphia when I was 18/19 and I recognized my old behavior in that scene immediately. I used to spend a long time staring at myself in the mirror before going out, head towards the door, then feel the compulsion to keep going back to the mirror to stare at my face more and find flaws in it even though everyone else said I looked pretty or fine. Sometimes I'd refuse to leave home because I thought I looked too bad to go out in public and if I managed to go out I'd spend the whole time being paranoid that everyone thought I looked awful and I'd compare myself to everyone I saw. I felt like I could never look good enough and I got obsessed and depressed with my appearance. I remember one night staring at my face angles for ages in the mirror and being convinced I needed jaw surgery to look better. I wouldn't even answer the door to delivery people without makeup on. I'm 32 now and get insecure sometimes but not as intensely thankfully. But to this day I'm careful not to take many selfies or spend too much time on vanity because I dont want to risk becoming like that again. But this film was so good! They really did body dysmorphia justice and the pressures to look a certain way as we get older, and the colour palette, cinematography, etc, all of it was amazing! I'm not a fan of body horror so this was uncomfortable to watch but I'm glad I saw it, 5 star movie for sure
My heart breaks so much for Elisabeth. The way she had so much hope for Sue after stopping terminating her, but that unfortunately lead to her own demise. And Elisabeth was a decent person too, she wasn't snobby but unfortunately her self-esteem got to her.
Addiction is grueling; I think this movie showcases the horror of discarding and devaluing yourself in the hopes that a substance will supplement what you're missing, and want to become. Been through addiction, and believe me it isn't easy to stop, but you are completely worth it, regardless of how you see yourself currently ♥️ Edit: wanted to add that (as cheesy as it is) working on the insecurity that makes you reach for any substance is key to letting go of dependency. Much love Chu🩷

Something horrific would happen and then I'd see there was still so much left, and I couldn't imagine how it could possibly get worse, but then it did. It added an element of dread, because clearly it was going to keep on spiraling out of control.
i've been waiting with baited breath for reaction videos of this!! i'm autistic and have seen this SOOOO many times since i first saw it almost a month ago, and i love that the first reaction i see is a man who UNDERSTANDS the point. thank you so much for making an amazing first impression and recognizing and understanding body dysmorphia and how misogynistic the world can be. big love, you earned a sub today!!
Harvey in this movies is supposed to be sexist and gross because he’s a reference to Harvey Weinstein. I read online that Weinstein’s mannerism are like that in real life and he eats his food like that too. But I did read some fan theories that the gross close ups to him crewing food is also a metaphor for how women sort of ‘chewed up and spat out’ in the entertainment industry.
I think this is just as much a commentary on the toxic beauty standards of American media as it is about internal addiction to attention and superficial admiration. Elizabeth started the movie addicted. She turned down her admirer until she felt like she wasn’t worth anything else. Her tenure in the industry made her so hungry for the validation of the same men we came to villainize, that’s why she took the substance in the first place. She couldn’t change if she wanted to.
Based on the presentation from the trailer in my mind I was like SOLD! The visuals had me invested in the story which made it easy to follow. Music and sound brought in the tension leaving an impact. THE SUBSTANCE is a brand spanking new film worth watching.
This was an incredible movie theatre experience, I had 3xs. I’m ready to get this blu ray yesterday. The messages in the movie are there if you can read them. The color story is on point. This is a movie for the ages, it transcends gender, time. We only get the one body in our life, be kind to it and don’t cruel to yourself. Half the beauty in the world we covet is artificial, be reasonable, be fair to yourself and make the smart decision as much as you can.
Favorite horror movie since Hereditary. I thought Longlegs was a shoe-in for horror movie of the year for me, but The Substance might even end up horror of the decade for me!
Personally i got a lot of snow white vibes from the movie. The whole concept of being the fairest of them all, looking in the mirror. Trying to poison her younger self with unhealthy food and then the younger one just taking more from the older one making her age more. The constant cycle.
You have to watch Requiem for a Dream! Themes of addiction and same director as Black Swan, so there are some Perfect Blue references. I think you'll love it if you haven't seen it 🤯
Went to see this by myself at the theatre and I honestly went through every emotion. I laughed, I cried, I screamed and I was so disgusted. I had to stop eating while watching this and my stomach was in knots. I loved this reaction and your take on body dysmorphia was how I felt too!
She couldn't even give her older self a comfy place to sleep on her 7 days. For some reason that really upsets me
I think that's point that she hates her self that much, that she would even treat her self like that.

This has to be my number 1 horror film of the year. Just indescribably INSANE and also tragic. Self Hatred can rot you from the inside.
Based on the presentation from the trailer in my mind I was like SOLD! The visuals had me invested in the story which made it easy to follow. Music and sound brought in the tension leaving an impact. THE SUBSTANCE is a brand spanking new film worth watching.
it's a brilliant take on the Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde concept
You make wanna watch movies asap so I can watch your reaction! This movie was INSANELY INCREDIBLE
Saw this three times in the theatre. My favorite movie of the year so far…. Amazing
I’d rather love myself as I age than try to hide my aging
OH MY GOD HER AFTER THE THIRD USE
This was an incredible movie theatre experience, I had 3xs. I’m ready to get this blu ray yesterday. The messages in the movie are there if you can read them. The color story is on point. This is a movie for the ages, it transcends gender, time. We only get the one body in our life, be kind to it and don’t cruel to yourself. Half the beauty in the world we covet is artificial, be reasonable, be fair to yourself and make the smart decision as much as you can.
The way I've watched the film 4 times already.....this is one of the best films of ALL TIME. I feel so grateful having watched it in cinema
That and the picture of Dorian Gray
47:20 IM A STARRRRR
😂😂😂😂😂😂
I’m so happy rn! Watching this in the cinema was INSANE. There were times where I was at the edge of my seat ❤ can't wait to see your reaction!
You have to watch Requiem for a Dream! Themes of addiction and same director as Black Swan, so there are some Perfect Blue references. I think you'll love it if you haven't seen it 🤯
This movie is basically the song "Contortionist" by Melanie Martinez.
I have been dying for a reaction to this movie and yours was so fantastic! One of the best movies I've seen this year. Loved your reaction ❤
Ohh my God, I was about to run some errands but I have to watch this first, this is my favorite movie of the year
I CLICKED SO FAST!!! My number 1 of the year!!!! 😤❤️🔥
I’m sorry you’re literally the best at commentating 😭😭 you are SO FUNNYY 🤍
Went to see this by myself at the theatre and I honestly went through every emotion. I laughed, I cried, I screamed and I was so disgusted. I had to stop eating while watching this and my stomach was in knots. I loved this reaction and your take on body dysmorphia was how I felt too!
IVE BEEN WAITINGGG!!! OH MY GODDDDD SEATED FOR THIS REACTION
