    About Lucas, I thought the same. He is presented as a character desperated to be recognized by other men (older and richer than him) and to succeed, so even if he never wanted to participated, he did nothing because of the amount of the men involved and (I believe) also because he was worried of how they will treat him if he wasn't on board.
    I love that Zoe thought of putting a character like this, because men like this exist in real life. They think that because they did "nothing wrong" they can't get away with literally doing nothing when women are being abused and so.

    TW: The Case of Dominique Pélicot
    Recently a case came to light of a man who curated respected well known men in his relatively small town to sexually assault his wife after he would drug her. Over 50 men abused this woman while she was unconscious for years. She would wake up with no memories, but having strange symptoms and would say she was in a loving and supporting marriage with her husband. What would posses a man - why?
    This is real life. This is happening now

    I really liked this one. The symbolism, innuendoes, and foreshadowing. Jess telling Frida not to break her neck. The way Frida told Jess to take her power back and stop going back yet she kept ending up back on the island unknowingly. Just to name two. I feel like the ending with her saving him was symbolism for the woman saving her abuser/ “I can change him” thing. And she did change him by making him forget and taking his power as her own💅🏽

    • @thekingofpopj

      You know what everyone needs to stop talking bad about the guy because if the guy was broke, homeless, and had no money, you wouldn't even entertain him taking him to court just because he's rich and famous and a billionaire, and your money is going low. is pretty tragic and stupid. Why would you want to do that for people who are now coming out of the woodwork and saying, Oh, he assaulted me. Why didn't you open your mouth 6 years ago? Why are all of you people coming right now and speaking on it? All of you people are just hating on P Diddy's bad boy records and P Diddy's family. At the end of the day, all of you people are just money hungry. I want to get some views. All you people want to do is spread lies and rumours and build up your TH-cam channel and views. You were not even there, so you don't know.

    WOOOO Lord I was in the theater in shock.
    The title of this video alone is hauntingly fitting because I can see way too many famous men who have depraved kinds of "parties" like this. (Like a White Lotus episode gone wrong)
    And the fact that so many of those "gift bags" were distributed, it adds another layer to the disturbing aspect this film has.
    I'm excited to what else that Zoe Kravitz has for us director wise.
    The use of colors alone is crazy.
    Notice how Jess' lighter and the snakes on the island are the ones that disrupt the manipulation and are yellow colored.
    Watching this in the theater enhanced the sound design even more,
    And when "I'm That Girl" started playing 😮

    Chu she forgot the first time because of the spray. So I think his idea is that men are going to do this type of stuff to women anyway so the gift that he gives them is the ability to forget the assault. And I’m assuming she was on the island the first time he sprayed her and she forgot and he dropped her off back in the US and he obviously wanted to meet her again to do the same thing to her 😢 just this second time she brought a friend.

    The thing with lucas is he represents the men in the industry who see women get used and abused and thrown away...but they do nothing. As we keep seeing time and time again.
    Now in a literal sense Honestly tho aren't they stuck there? And they were assaulting them separately at the same time so it seemed he was outnumbered and couldn't have done anything literally which is why he seemed very emotional and looked liek he was overwhelmed and breaking down when it was happening .

    Hey chu! I searched up the symbolism for the red rabbit comment by the elderly maid. One of the significations are the ability to evade danger quickly. Keyword: DANGER. remember the foreshadowing of when she asked the rich old man to blink twice if she was in DANGER and he did. then it also says the red rabbit is the master of trickery and wit. Very interesting choice of symbolism here and then the fact she is wearing a red dress on top of that just mind blowing!

    Frida put the perfume in his vape which made him pretty much forget what happened up until that point because ingesting it made it work faster so Slater didn't know what led up to Camilla being killed, his friend's face being bashed and everything. She then kept dosing him with the vape and I guess convinced him that they were a couple so she could marry him and become CEO of his company because as she said earlier in the film, success is the best revenge. She gained complete control over her rapist and secured his fortune and his company as revenge as well as having the therapist arrested. Frida "save" him from the fire to essentially take over his life.

I mean wouldn't blame him not entirely because he is outnumbered and if speculation is right he didn't remember it after to fix it.

    Loved the title card in this movie, really clever way to do that with that Polaroid. I remember when Simon Rex was an MTV VJ, so I'm happy that he's had an acting career that's endured.
    Not gonna lie, I'd have loved to be a fly in the wall during the filming of this movie, as I'm sure there were conversations about the films themes between the cast. Also makes me feel like the male actors in this movie are safe, if you get what I mean. And my girl from Green Room is always getting messed up in horror movies, so I was both happy and nervous the moment I saw Jess.

    This started of slow, cliché 💁🏽‍♀️ but then 🧐 Her rescuing him at the end was *mwah* Perfect revenge which is very hard to do. Death is too quick and easy. He needs to endure and suffer.
    Him saying forgiveness is not real and then playing back his apology 👀 .......... Similar to Diddy's apology.

    The more I think about what’s going on with the Diddy case then this movie I can’t help but think about what they did to Wendy Williams. And on national tv the world saw her possibly be drug and ruined. Everyone went along with it. Crazy

      I mean admitted that she had problems with drugs in the 90s and after her divorce she admitted to be using alcohol heavily. I'm not saying the industry was perfect but I feel Wendy's case I more about a terrible husband that took advantage of her and left her dry.

      ALSO ALSO the reason Slater was saying the guy did nothing, is because A. the guy was a victim but B. when the girls revolted he basically helped Slater and the boys and not the girls. So kinda victim blamey but he didn’t pass the bystander test

    Thank you!! This one was heavy and I absolutely felt your pain but Zoe put in the work for this! Horror DOWN 💯
    Okay so my theory on the young guy (who is also Ethan Hawke + Uma Thurman's kid) is that he was both a victim and a bystander. I had to rewatch to really catch Slater's monologue but he said you did nothing to help yourself (to the girls I brought for you) and you did nothing to help them (to protect them from us). In the flashback you can see ol boy flipping out when he realizes what the other guys are doing but he doesn't try to intervene. Slater is upset and punishes him by being violent, which we see as his black eye during the day. There's also a part where Frida tells him he smells good meaning he's getting perfumed to forget. On first watch I thought he was also seshually hurt but I think it was more like getting slapped up because he was the odd man out.

    Crazy we watch Lucas being attacked left bruised just like the women and so many made him out to be an enabler. I feel like initially slater was a victim and through therapy he became the monster he was running from. The idea of forgetting is a gift was fitting on so many levels.

    • @DelphicSpinsterIndagatrix
      @DelphicSpinsterIndagatrix 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Eh, not a great take.
      Attacked _just_ like the women? You can't be serious. Well of course you are, you think getting punched is the same as getting violently r@p€d every night.
      He did nothing to help them.
      And _therapy_ made him a monster? What a great job demonizing therapy 🙄
      If your takes from this movie are 1. defending one of those men and 2. making excuses for another man, you're part of the problem.

    it's crazy how your reaction to the assault scenes gave you the same reaction i had (as a victim myself, not that men can't be too but ya know) but i was in a theatre on a first date and i was almost crying at several points. it's literally one of my favorite movies of all time and i've only seen it once, but it hit home so hard for me. the whole sensory triggers bringing back traumatic memories is something used so well here, and i've experienced this a lot. sometimes you don't even know what exactly happened, it's just a bad feeling around someone or some event/place/whatever. i was m0l3st3d as a kid and i'm pretty sure some stuff happened at this one house of my bio dad but i don't remember much, and he had lilac bushes in his yard and that is a trigger for me...also a soap he used to use, the smell of someone who smokes a lot of cigarettes, and someone who drinks a lot of alcohol...sometimes it really is just feeling something is off and fucked up tho, and you don't even know what it was.

    To me with Lucas obviously that scene where they’re all getting assaulted, He is freaking out because he’s kind of confused as to what’s going on. He then gets sprayed and doesn’t remember anything either. However, when the assault does happen, you see him just kind of freak out he’s not fighting them or telling them to stop, He’s just kind of screaming. Now you can say it’s because he’s young and probably has never thought something like that could happen. But I thought maybe they used him as like a sort of test rat to see if the sprays are still working properly because I can’t think of any of the reason he’s there.

    • @user-dx2dm8oq8g
      @user-dx2dm8oq8g หลายเดือนก่อน

      I think he could have been brought in for men who wanted to abuse men, we saw that many people visit. He does look very young. To make him an enabler, he should remember and we'd have to see his behaviour change. I believe that they sprayed him forcefully, that guy mentioned he smelled nice probably to encourage him to spray himself. To me he looks like a victim too, there's no way he could fight all those men alone. If he was initiated, they would have told him to bring someone with him that he'd abuse like the other guys. I don't buy that they tested him to see if he'd look the other way because he's not a big player in tech yet.

  • @airmykii4090
    @airmykii4090 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    34:18 he wouldn’t get involved in an earlier scene you see him screaming and freaking out and they made him forget about everything .. so when Channing says he did nothing he didn’t participate to help himself nor did he try to save the girls from what was happening
