Orania is definitely a perplexing issue with many sides and nuances.
Ultimately its built on private land and gets no money from the government. Should your neighbours decide who lives in your house? So it should be allowed to exist.

Orania is a great succuss town. Everyone has a job, no one struggles, people work hard. Theres zero crime. They are going offgrid from Eskom with solar.
Why not rather learn from the town? You can go into a thousand towns and villages around SA and its filthy, disgusting, no jobs, high crime rate, bad roads, kids have schools that are falling apart, they have no facilities or options.
Orania has built a beautiful town in the desert based on their Afrikaans language and culture.

Many respondents talk about what whites or Afrikaners can have or not have as if they can decide for the white Afrikaner, how about asking white people what they think about Orania and how black people should behave and live their lives? The Afrikaners dont want to decide upon the future of black people and also dont want black people to decide how the Afrikaners should live their lives and I think that is fair enough.
Those Afrikaners are not African at all. They should consider that they came and disrupted other people's cultures. The Afrikaan's came from Europe. Africans were kind enough to welcome the white people ( we should have known better), Just remember Africans also cared about their culture which they were forced to abandon. What if the indigenous Africans decided they want to preserve their culture and ask all those who are not African to go back where they came from?

I would say they are welcome to live and allow people the freedom to live and work wherever they want. I have not seen Europe offer any Africans a place where they can "preserve" their culture in continental Europe.

The old Bantu people arrived in south Africa because they had to leave their own homes. The majority of the White people who arrived here, were promised land and independence by their governments, so they left their own homes behind because they saw hope in South Africa.
Coloured people are racially mixed, and their ancestors come from both Europe, the Bantu tribes, and a few others.
Indians were brought here against their wills by governments and large companies.
You dont get to claim that because your genetics are somewhat more similar to some people who arrived here thousands of years ago, YOU have a rightful claim to the land, and no one else does!

Is it a "white only" or "Afrikaner only" town? If it is a town where Afrikaners want to live as they have for centuries, then it is their right. They are a very conservative ethnic group and they like to preserve their way of life same as the Mennonites in the US do. Or how the Amish like to live apart.
My feeling is that it is a place where Afrikaners ( and not English speakers and not any white people) want to live with their own kind- fellow Afrikaners/Boers. They want to speak Afrikaans, do business with other Afrikaners and keep their Calvinist ages-old traditions alive.
If it is bad, then China-Town is also bad? How about Korea town? How about tribal areas where people of the same tribe live?
Afrikaners are just one tribe of Africa and it is not their fault that they are white. I say leave them alone.

As a non-white South African I don't see anything wrong with Orania, it's a privately owned piece of land just like your privately owned property/house, you can decide who lives in your house, nothing racist about it, there are Zulu's, Xhosa's and other ethnic groups living together protecting their cultures, so that's acceptable, now that the whites are doing it, it's racism, the blacks today are more racist than any other racial group in SA.

As a black South African,I would like to live in Orania and I can tell,crime and corruption are far less as compared to the mainland? Here,we have the same "black brothers" destroying their own with drugs, human trafficking,prostitution, rituals, corruption and many more? I'm not saying there's no crime there,but say for example,if Johannesburg was looked after like Orania,I swear it wouldn't be as messed up as it is now? Nevertheless,we blacks, we're always a "VICTIM" whenever we're to account? For now, let's focus on reclaiming back the large potion of our land(our cities in particular) that has since been invaded by monsters who are destroying the future of our children while living large and we'll come back to the issue of Orania?

I'm of Afrikaaner extract but being English speaking, of adopted English/modern culture and an atheist, i'd not be welcome in Orania - and I'm cool with that. I'm also not welcome to settle in a Xhosa kraal in Transkei because that is private land and for the clan to live their lives free of my presence.

The way Orania is, is just like back during Apartheid where as anyone who was to visit a certain area. Like for instance my mother did tell me that to get in to Qwaqwa back then you had to make some sort of arlet, which was sent to the King to know that you will be visiting. I don't see it all bad. And knowing that the land is privately owned, so it's up to them what they say goes. They bought the land. But there are some factors which i disagree with them. However, they were smart judging to the failing government. Now their town is growing.

As a white guy from the USA I am currently living in Phnom Penh, Cambodia and I am currently the only white guy in my building so I* have 0 interest(for several reasons) in living in an 'all white' town, but* I certainly have 0 issue with an all white? all black? all Asian? all whatever community..As a total outsider looking in it looks to me* that integration did a whole lot to kill black businesses and communities in America...so* if you are a minority in a country there could be a big pro argument for having at least one decent sized community of your own people that is as self sustainable as possible. Imagine if there was like a 500,000 'all black' self sustaining city in the USA. Many blacks might not prefer to live there but* if things get bad/worse, or your just 'done' it would be an option. I'm obviously not South African much less Afrikaner but if I was I dont think I'd want to stay there, but if it grows big enough and is mostly self sustaining would be a great place to 'run to' if you needed it...
