    Great to see you were finally able to visit, guys. Just one thing to clarify:
    On the hill of statues, only the "Small Giant" statue in the middle was made by Orania, the rest are all statues donated to the town when they were thrown away by the government.

    • @garyschei
      @garyschei ปีที่แล้ว +29

      At least the government gave you guys something 😂
      I find myself wondering how much more could be done if the racist government was willing to give your municipality even half of what they should be giving you....
      I'm sure they're more than happy taking your taxes, PAYE, VAT, etc, but much like what they take from the rest of RSA, that money is for their pockets only!

      @@kaboomVX actually no... Those statues were thrown away by municipalities so they are being rescued by Orania.
      Example... Standerton Mpumalanga is a small agricultural and mining town in Mpumalanga used to be a stop on the old durban road.
      It also happens to be the site of old concentration camps from Anglo/boer war and before that there was evidence the groot trek made passage through here.
      All these things had monuments like old canons from the war or munuments to the women and children who perished in the camps.
      That was until a lunatic mayor decided it was all racist and took ahammer to all monuments.... Even a century old oak tree by municipal buildings that once hosted a tea party to prince of england.all destroyed by if orange.
      These are the types of things Orania has been garnering.... Because in essence... Orania is a conservation effort for Afrikaans culture and language
      Shooting range is other side of the hills

    • @bridgetedwardslivelifefully
      @bridgetedwardslivelifefully ปีที่แล้ว +12

      @@lmc4355 there is no "elephant in the room". Orania got government permission for the land, and their primary goal is to preserve the longevity and purity of the Afrikaans language and culture. As an English speaking South African, I wouldn't be able to join their community, nor would I want to because it's not my culture. Instead of being offended, I respect and value their reasons.
      There are many highly successful intentional communities around the world. Every one of them conduct interviews before admission because they all have strict principles, codes of conduct and rules about joining their communities. That way they maintain the purity of their ethos to ensure their success. I applaud such endeavours, and forsee a lot more of this happening in future, not just in SA but globally.

      Im not defending ANC's corruption but I support the need of a government. Orania is a very very small settlement everyone can behave themselves(maybe). When it comes to bigger places like the whole of South Africa my brother you need a government otherwise nothing is going to work. Believe me on that one, even them scientists do. Dealing with billions need a group of people, water and sanitation for millions of people need a million people at work, education of millions of knowledge hungry students, prevention from invasions. Please ask the Oranians if they pay for security and policing personnel, if they do, ask them where the money comes from; Taxes. I have not mentioned law, would it take place? Or would Orania want to grow its borders to the north? What about Soshanguve? It wants to get its coal to Richard's Bay for export. KZN's ruler is imposing unfair taxes for trucks heading from Mozambique to the Eastern Cape. Who is going to take care of such mess?? Remember, the SCIENTISTS AGREE.

      Oriana owns everything and then had the council connect the roads onto their land so it seems as if it just like any other area but it is so not.

      It's a very difficult and complex subject. Because this is the same premise that apartheid started on. It was just to keep people separate that had different cultures, but then it kinda got out of control pretty fast! So the question is, how to you live next to people that share your culture and your values and your language without offending other cultures and languages? I really do want equal opportunity for everyone regardless of race, language or anything, but I also want to be between people of my own culture. But in SA we might be working towards something like that naturally. If we can just end corruption on the government level then we can start building again instead of breaking down!

      So many communities in South Africa where Africans have build and done for themselves. The taxi industry grew out of the township, street food, stokvels, supermarkets run by our own people. Take Venda where they even build their own bricks and build mansions. Just say you know nothing about our people before coming to spew lies and praise racists. Communities have game reserves, schools and are pushing. The problem is that white South Africans like yourself won’t even give credit even when we were living under apartheid our people were resilient. Facts is that nepotism and white monopoly capital is doing a lot more damage and you want to go around blaming just the ANC. When Zilles son got the tablet tenders, Africans and Coloureds live like literal kak in Cape Town due to the DAs very racist policies. Cops go help fast in Camps Bay but take forever in the Cape Flats. Fining the homeless in Cape Town, my municipality was better under ANC in Jhb and has been run down by DA. The different security companies and the FNA security work together to combat crime and they are very successful in doing it. For an additional R70 FNA also removes your garbage. Other neighbourhoods, such as Langenhovenpark also founded a neighbourhood association...The Good News Club (TGNC). At the moment they are fixing the potholes is Langenhovenpark. Well perhaps the African people need to stop being so biased, and start learning from those who have a history of progressivness, and then they too can add to the future of the country other than being an economical burden, and pawns to a radical commie government who uses race propaganda to divide and suppress popped into one way of thinking. As for now you can say Orania exist to get away from townships. One thing that separates minorities from the majority, is high standards.
      My neighborhood was a nice place and it got reclassified as a township because of all the illegal communes that was built, and now the area is overpopulated, crime is higher than ever, service delivery is none existent, and the place is filthy, as result property value fell and our homes became worthless. It used to be a middle class and upper neighborhood. So you see, standards is lacking, and because the people keep voting for ANC and EFF, poverty goes up, as the economy tanks, and thus nice places turn into slums. The ANC and EFF's version of equality, as we can see, makes everyone equally poor, not equally rich. Had the people put their shit about the past aside and moved forward as every other culture and race did in history, we would not have been in this predicament. Even Germans don't get shat on as much as minorities do in this country for their past actions when they were Nazi's. Because the future is ahead of us, not behind us. The rest of us are really just working to move past the majority who seem to have stagnated.

    Instead of envying what the Afrikaner built in Oriana, we must as black South Africans use this as a blue print to build our own Oriana.

      You do realise that the model is largely enabled by cherrypicking who you allow to live in the area right? A luxury we as the majority do not necessarily have over and above the fact that it is actually unconstitutional to deny people who legally qualify to live there……..reimplementation of group areas act of apartheid basically

      @Ofentse Melato That act was race based, it said so clearly.
      Orange is not. it's culture based, may include ethnic aspects but it seems much more aligned to ethos.
      "Do you have dependable work ethic?"
      Because there is no place for someone who can't contribute to the town in some constructive way , irregardless of anything else you may be, culture wise.
      I'm sure many have been turned away that may have been of the same culture, but didn't have that personal ethos Orania is so passionate about.

    It's a really good piece but I think this should have been 1 hour long, including all the restaurants, entertainment, all public sports facilities including shots of people playing sports,mandatory obligations, such as do you have to attend church x amount of times per month, business owners interviews perhaps, inside homes of some volunteers, etc. I realise some of the content possibly won't be allowed to be disclosed, but at least all facilities for the public would have been nice. Great job though.
