Yip, it is a threat to the current government as they would not want the rest of the citizens to see how efficiently local municipalities should be run...

The government will by design not foster an Orania type of culture and mentality. The government needs the populus behoven on it for everything, that's the only way it can exercise control over the people.
Modern governance is not there for the benifit of citizens of a country, it exists for the benifit of a caball of elites that wish to dominate and control the world.

Orania is a perfect example of "with absolute freedom, comes absolute responsibility for oneself". Awesome interview. The word "self" is the core of Orania. "we built this our self", "self sufficient", "self sustaining" and "self determent". Moving away from Government dependent to Self dependent is what liberates this community. I would love to see this being something being done by other groups and tribes in SA successfully. Centralization has been the dead horse being beaten over and over in SA giving the same failed results for years. Orania is an example of success when you ditch the centralization concept and going self reliant.

    • @gopolanglekoto
      @gopolanglekoto ปีที่แล้ว +8

I absolutely love what they doing and fully agree that one must take care of "self"! I do wonder, how long before Orania develops a government and people start depending on it. It seems a lot of time these kinds of things work on a small scale, but soon enough, it gets complex and suddenly you need a State/Government. Then the madness of government control and state dependence begins...

    • @garyschei
      @garyschei ปีที่แล้ว +11

Not all government rule is bad, I think that if they had their own government it would be made up of like minded people. They would first need to isolate themselves from RSA, some kind of homeland status, then their government could collect their own taxes and feed that back to their own community. Currently they pay various taxes to the ANC thieves who give absolutely nothing back, in any form.

Outsiders think Oranian lifestyle is "easy" or "privileged" because they're only seeing the by-product of decades of dedicated, solid, hard work. They built it, they deserve every bit of their success!
Orania is only one example of many highly successful intentional communities around the world. Look up Findhorn, Damanhur, Auroville to name but a few. And, USA has many too. All were built on basic principles of common ethos, specific culture and coordinated hardwork over decades. Orania is no different!

  • @presterjohn4123
    @presterjohn4123 ปีที่แล้ว +33

I visited and stayed overnight in Orania last year coming back from the Cape. It is a very peaceful place and as a non-Afrikaans speaking Brit, I was treated with curtesy and, well, just normally. I went to the hotel restaurant and when I explained I could not speak Afrikaans, they spoke to me in English. No problem at all.
Whatever your opinion of this venture, you have to take your hat off to the founders of the place for making this happen.
In the great scheme of things, this is early days for the town as they try to become less dependent on the rest of South Africa.
I would have asked two questions.
    1. How can they truly ever become autonomous when their fuel, (diesel for instance) is produced and shipped from outside.
    2. What happens if you need major surgery. Do you have to travel to a major centre for this.
I am not getting at them but at this stage of development, which may change to address these two questions, how truly autonomous is Orania.
Great content guys. Keep it up.

      1. Import, the goal is being autonomous but no one can be fully autonomous, no-one lives in a vacuum so creating relationships with folks that can assist and support you is a good thing, already reached out alot to the xhosa leaders and trade among another.
      2. That is a just a matter of equipment and skill, still dont have it but it would propably be a non-issue not so far off in the futurre. Bloemfontein is not so far off and is a major hub for medical services, so just going there if it is something they can't handle.

Yeah well, maybe because they dont do anything that otherwise makes them relevant. Orania is in the lime light because of the obvious reason that you have intelligent, qualified hard working people who respect the law showing the morons in charge of this country how minorities do it. And everyone can see this nation would have been better off in the hands of minorities who are more developed than much of the majority. The state of this country speaks volumes.
Myself having no idea what living in a nice environment is like because i was born into this shithole, always get pissed off how standardless the majority is. This community is exactly what Credo Mutwa in his book My people advocates. A country where every tribe and race can keep their own identity and he says that only the Afrikaans people under Dr Vervoerd understood that this was exactly what the Bantu people wanted and needed. Every South African should read his book, It could change everything in this country we all love so much because Apartheid was never meant to be a bad thing. Unfortunately the British had a very different plan and Credo says that the Bantu people knew very well that the British wouldn't hesitate to exterminate them.

Interesting. Everybody wants to see what is going on in Orania. Even you guys. The Voertsek ANC guy, (Rob Hersov) was there recently. I'm not sure he expressed an opinion publicly. The Make Africa Great again (African American), was very impressed while there. But afterwards said, nah, they should not exist. Your favourite politician, (McKenzie) could also not resist the urge to go see for himself. He said we can all learn from them. BUT, they should not exist. It hurts Lesufi deeply that white people could thrive in this country and JM warned he (the EFF) is coming for them.
Your observations I must admit was quite refreshing. You noticed it is just an ordinary town with ordinary, (friendly) people. No opulence and the place is remarkably clean. Good.

The current South Africa is based on multi-ethnic ideology:
Various cultures living under the tyranny of the majority, because democracy does not have default outcomes. The choices a democracy makes are inherently based on the culture of the people in that democracy.
Orania is based on cultural ideology:
People with the same core values (religion), the same cultural values (culture & language). They decide as a collective group what their freedoms should be based on their values.
Ethnicity and culture are two different things. A nation can be multi-ethnic, but it cannot be multi-cultural. Culture is what defines a nation. Old nations have a correlation between their culture and their ethnicity, because ethnicity pursues the culture through mixing. Give any ethically diverse nation (with a single culture) a few hundred years, and there will be a correlation between their culture and ethnicity. Nature tends towards ethnic unity within a nation. But you cannot put different cultures together and call them a nation.
South Africa is not a nation, it is a union. No one in South Africa is willing to assimilate; to abandon their own culture to adopt another. Ironically, most Anglos think everyone should adopt their culture and their values. They'll dare to call you a "racist" if you don't.

A culture that has a rich history building and developing anything they touch sure as hell don't want to give it up and become part of a culture that has a history of destruction and entitlement. The only way democracy can work is by allocating all its Citizens Equal Voting Power. This means in simple terms counting all the different cultures/languages and affording them a Vote accordingly. So that for example all the Khoisan people vote = All the Zulu People vote = Afrikaaner = German = Chinese. Their votes count the same weight. That is a true culturally represented democracy. Apose to the current Vote which puts Zulu's in the majority and some families in power for ever.

Yes our forefathers were from mostly European countries so it could be grounded to think there was an influence. As Afrikaners we might have European roots but we have an identity that is uniquely our own. My forefathers were from Germany (Lotz) but we had English, French, Dutch, German settlers and others I believe. As an Afrikaner it is interesting to note that we have the youngest language in the world and Orania wants to protect that unique identity, language and other cultural aspects. The current government wants to wipe out the Afrikaner identity and yet when they seek to preserve their culture it is seen as threatening.

The Afrikaans Language originated from the Cape Malays who were slaves brought over from Malaysia by the Dutch.
Many Afrikaans words have their origin from the Cape Malay Slaves such as the word "baie" which you don't find in Dutch.
The Taal Monument in Paarl also openly acknowledges that the Afrikaans Language and culture originated from the Cape Malay Slaves which was known as the "kombuis Taal" or "kitchen language" spoken by the Slaves working in the kitchens of their Masters.
Furthermore the first printed or published form of Afrikaans was found in the Forward of a copy of the Quaran.
Thus will Carl Boshoff or Orania accept a fully Afrikaans speaking Christian Coloured person who identifies and whose forefathers are rooted in the Afrikaans tradition and culture?

The hypothetical scenario is often raised, but the fact of the matter is that in the 30 years of its existence it never happened. Dont get me wrong, since the 90's I always maintained that I'd rather associate with someone who thinks like me than just someone who looks like me. But the fact of the matter is, there seems to be a recognition on both sides that we are two distinct cultural groups, and attempts in the past to forge a united "Afrikaanses" identity failed. At the end of the day, people will associate with whom they wish to associate with. As soon if you have to force something, be it seperation or integration, you are playing with fire.

I accept that but this is not the argument which Carl Boshoff is making.
He proposes that if a person from Austria, by way of example, associates and identifies himself with the Afrikaner Volk, then such a person would be accepted within the Orania Community.
The simple question is, will Orania on the same principle accept an Afrikaans speaking Christian Coloured person whose forefathers were essentially the originators of the Afrikaans Language and the very culture which Orania strives to maintain, unlike the hypothetical Austrian?
An Afrikaans speaking Christian Coloured person has far more in common with the Orania Community than that of an Austrian, the only difference being is the colour of their skin.
Whether an Afrikaans speaking Christian Coloured person would want to be part of such a community is a different matter.
The is simple question is whether such a person would be permitted to be part of such a community or not?

Moses, you in short do not understand where, and how Afrikaans originated. Just because Afrikaans was first written buy another group, does not mean they tabled the language.
Afrikaans has its origin in the Dutch root. This makes sense, as the Dutch were the dominant, and settled group, before the arrival of the Germans and the French.
Why were the Germans here? Good question, glad you asked!
As the Cape settlement was " NOT " a Dutch colony, ( As is falsely surmised most of the time. ) but rather a halfway filling station, meant to resupply the " Dutch East Indian Company ", the biggest commercial entity of its time, the Dutch Kingdom was not at liberty to set up a garrison for the protection of the people, farmers and buildings, that were at the mercy of not so friendly hostile sea fairing country's, and hostile tribes in the vicinity.
Thus, the DEIC, had to hire garisons of Prussian / German mercenaries for their protection, thus, where my Ancestors originated from. Later, the Protestant French Hugenotes, arrived, after being persecuted for their faith, by the Catholics in France.
Thus, the three main contributing languages, to the Afrikaans language are Dutch, German and French. However, there are a " Loan Words " taken from Xhosa, Koi, Maylay and Portuguese, to name a few, that further enhanced our Language, that we are very proud of.
Now, Flemish, spoken by non French Belgians, is the language closest related to Afrikaans, and not Dutch, when speaking, and hearing the two languages interact with one another. I can speak out of personal experience, as I have been to both countries, and worked with both nationalities extensively over the last 20 years. The Dutch don't even understand their Flemish brothers, and need subtitles, when watching Flemish broadcasts.
I can easily converse with Flemish in Afrikaans, but I have to resort to English when conversing with a Dutchman.
Afrikaans is recognised as the only Germanic language to have it's existence outside of Europe, because of the strong Dutch and German influence.
So, then why was Afrikaans not written by the " Afrikaner " then? Another brilliant question, and a question I am eager to answer.
As Dutch was the language in the cape, because of the predominant Dutch population, all other nationalities had to speak it, due to it's commercial value. The cape was a trading post, and Dutch was it's commercial language. Dutch was spoken on the farms that supplied the shipping industry, as well as the settlement, and of course the fishermen etc.
But, as all languages do, they evolve. ( No language spoken now, is exactly the same asbit was spoken and written even 100 years ago. )Thus the degrading term, kitchen Dutch used by the then English, and arrogant Dutch from Holland, referred to our " New Native " language, Afrikaans. The English wanted the hole of Africa under the Union Jack, and the Dutch considered their cousins in the south as barbaric, and simple, for not wanting to be proudly Dutch.
The thing is, we were never Dutch, and like the English settlers in America became Americans, ( Meaning from America ) and the English Settlers in Australia became Australians,m( Meaning from Australia ), we became Afrikaners, ( Meaning from Africa ).
But, unnlike our Muslim countrymen, the Afrikaner was slow to change, and still had church services held in " Hoog Hollands ", and schooling taught in Dutch, though the spoken language, Afrikaans was by the our " Official Spoken Language ".
Only after the second Anglo Boer war, did Afrikaans Nationalism come to light, with the drive for an " Own " Language.
I hope you found this bit of our history insightful, and informative.

Because if it hasnt occurred to you, it wasnt minorities who turned this country into a shithole, but are still blamed and marginalized for the majority's lack of taking responsibility for their petty shit.
Hence minorities dont actually want to mix in with much of thr majority because nobody wants to put up with tantrum throwing victims, who call racism toward every fking breath a white man takes.
