      I’d like to hear the arguments on the need for protein intake. As far as I can tell, Layne advocates for extremely high protein diets, and Plant Chompers is more on the Dr. Greger camp (I.e., reduce protein intake to the dietary recommendation of 0.8 per kg)… I’m thoroughly confused

    I love my omnivorous, well-balanced, mostly whole foods diet, that does include some more processed food products, and the occasional highly-processed, hyper-palatable food products; therefore, as long as the normies and carnivores and vegans all allow for the food market to carry my diet staples, then I'm good.

    • @CryptoKeeper36
      @CryptoKeeper36 2 ปีที่แล้ว +14

      Hi. I am a biochemist. I can touch on this, but I am not an expert. Take what I say with a grain of salt. I am a stranger:)
      1. Mercury - hard one to answer. It depends on where you live, do you mean canned fish or fresh, what type of fish etc etc. Lots of variables. I can say it would take ALOT of high-level mercury fish to get mercury poisoning. Certainly possible, if you like eat 3 cans of tuna a day or something. But fish as a regular part of the diet, in moderation. Not a concern.
      2. I actually have MS, so I have looked into this. It is basically false. There are certain papers or articles from far in the past that haunt science, and this is one. The pork/MS theory comes from a paper from 1986. It doesn't hold up as more data became available. Canada has the highest rate of MS per capita in the world but it isn't even in the top 15 when it comes to pork consumption per capita.
      3. MASSIVE difference between Omega 6 and 3. A typical western diet has far too much Omega 6 and that isn't good. It also has far too little Omega 3. Omega 3 and 6 are used by the body for different things. The naming is confusing and make them seem very similar.

    • @sportysbusiness
      @sportysbusiness 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

      Actually, the WHO claims red meat is a 'probable' carcinogen. And that 'probable' link is statistically insignificant and based on very poor epidemiological questionnaire based studies. When you realise that the study classified a meat pizza as red meat, and asked participants to remember how many meat pizzas they ate over the last 10 years, the data is worthless. Same for burgers, hot dogs etc as we know that processed carbs (ie the base/bun and sauces) are the problem, yet the meat gets blamed.

So yesterday I ate junk... sugar, carbs...etc... and woke up this morning and pooped easy for the first time in 8 months! Feel like I have more mental clarity as well today. Not that eating the crap food was good for me but think my body definitely needed the carbs and fiber no matter how my body got it at this point! I am very thankful for the carnivore diet as I did get my blood sugars down to normal on it and am no longer pre diabetic. also lost 60 pounds on it. But I think that you are absolutely right that it should be used as an elimination diet and that is all. Have you ever read Eat to Live? If so, I think it could be interesting to hear your thoughts on why your opinion on overall health varies some from that book. One of the main points made in the book is in regards to meat and dairy consumption. The book claims that meat and dairy consumption correlate heavily with some of the diseases you mention in this video (namely cardiovascular health). The book recommends a maximum of 1 or 2 servings per week of meat and/or dairy.
    Just throwing it out there, I've been following the advice of that book and my body is transforming just as the book said it would. I went from being on the cusp of diabetic to having within range of normal blood results in just 2 months. I was also able to pick up physical exercise beyond my imagination from just a month ago (capable of running 10kms and such in under a month of running training).
    I do enjoy your videos and your thought process and presentation, which is why I bring this topic up. I would value your opinion, as I am sure others would too, in comparison to a health strategy that I know to be working (at least it is working for me *shrug*).

      "The book claims that meat and dairy consumption correlate heavily..." Those claims are based on very poor evidence, questionnaire based correlation studies. There are NO causation studies to back up that claim. That's the problem with the plant versus meat argument, there are overwhelming studies to back up plants, but they're all correlation studies, or study meat eaters who also eat plenty of carbs. In other words, the studies are next to useless because there are no studies just looking at meat eaters, not omnivores. Humans have eaten mainly fatty meat for 100,000s of years. To believe that meat is suddenly bad for us is laughable.

    "Fiber is so important for a myriad of different reasons" - what about people doing carnivore (no fiber) for years and seeing significant improvements in health? How are they improving if fiber is so important? Would you say all these cases are just exceptions or they're straight out lying?
    The problem with these studies is that they're always looking fiber diets against junk diets. Yes, replacing junk food with fiber rich whole foods will give you health improvements but that doesn't mean fiber is "so important".
    If people can go for years without (or low) fiber and feel great, one has to question the importance of fiber.

    I would choose carnivore for the micronutrients and essential fatty acids. Micronutrients and essential fatty acids are poor in plants, when it comes to bioavailability and bioequivilence. Also, I don't think those benefits from plants are that important, if you already at a healthy body fat, exercise, optimal sleep, etc. Also, You're missing oit SIGNIFICANTly more by cutting you're eating animal organs, seafood, diary, etc, compared to eating veggies, legumes, fruits, etc nutrition wise. You won't micronutrients as bioequivilent and bioavailable anywhere else. Also, weaker reason is thar there could always be the chance that there's a micronutrient that hasn't been discovered yet and I think animal are most likely to have it than plant. My concerns would be for my stool and vitamin C though; however, I think plant based would have SIGNIFICANTLY more concerns than that.

    • @donwinston
      @donwinston 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      A micronutrient is just vitamins and minerals. Meat and dairy do not have more vitamins and minerals per calorie than fruits and vegetables. Plants have phytonutrients. By definition meat and dairy do not have any phytonutrients. It is obvious that fiber is very important for long term health. There is no fiber in meat and dairy. The evidence is very strong that you are likely to live significantly longer and be healthier eating just plants than just meat and dairy. You are wrong.

    • @seban-jackedweeb5513
      @seban-jackedweeb5513 2 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      @@donwinston phytonutrients, in case you didn't know, inhibit micronutrient absorption. Also, have you missed like half of what I said. Can you get calcium, iron, copper, etc from plants, yes; however, it's often significantly less bioavailable and less bioequivilent. Do you know what that means? It means what's on paper on nutrition facts is not all going into your bloodstream, let alone used nearly as easily by required functions in the body, such as enzymatic processes. For instance, there's probably 100% of your DV of vitamin A in sweet potato; however, a lot of that doesn't get to your bloodstream due to bioavailability issues and there's significantly less bioactive actual vitamin A, once that beta carotene is converted into retinal. Also, fiber is important and I never it wasn't; however, I'd give that up, if it meant I can have high quality animal based nutrition. Lastly, I don't know WTF you're talking about. Organ meats are EXTREMELY nutrient dense, especially calories equated to literally ANY plant food on Earth. You do know people actually worry about organs, right? Because there's an actual risk of overdosing, because organ meats are so extremely bioavailable and bioequivilent micronutrients.

      my parents had a plant heavy diet and had numerous health issues till the end. plant based isnt good.
      vitamin c isnt a big issue on a meat heavy diet for as long as youre not eating too much carbs. glucose and vitamin c compete with each other in the body. also, meat has alot of anti oxidants which can do the same stuff as vitamin c. liver for example, also has vitamin c, in addition to uric acid(a powerful anti oxidant, also water soluble just like vitamin c), has purines(which your body will use to produce uric acid), has taurine(another anti oxidant. works in the gut and at your heart and arteries), and has glutamine, glycine and cystine(used to make the master anti oxidant glutathione).
      as for your stool. it will actually improve by removing the plants. also, taurine helps with gut motility. when i tried carnivore i had loose stools for days until i started getting more taurine from lightly cooked meat(taurine is heat sensitive).

      vitamin a, iron, and copper overload from liver can be dealt with by getting more vitamin d(antagonistic to vitamin a), vitamin k(balances vitamin a & d), exercise & taurine(helps prevent iron/mineral overload), and zinc(antagonistic to copper). basically its simple. just eat like normal. eat mostly muscle meat and occasionally a small amount of liver.
      i have heard of a carnivore before who got iron and copper overload. also, he stopped working out. thats another reason. there was also a bunch of adventurers decades ago who ate polar bear liver and got too much vitamin a.

How many 80 year old carnivores do you know who have eaten that way for 15+ years? Even the meat hunting tribes in Africa eat a ton of plants in reality (most hunts are unsuccessful). Arteries get damaged slowly, not overnight. Saying you feel good really doesn’t tell you much about your heart disease risk.
      Only wrinkle is that if eating meat allows you to stay leaner and more active, then you are probably ameliorating the risk to some degree. But the data shows that all else being equal (body weight, smoking, genetics, etc) a whole plants rich diet does tend to decrease heart disease risk.

As I research lowering LDL I am begs to understand that increasing fiber & good fats while lowering saturated fat seems to be the consensus. It seems eating a variety of foods to get healthy fats also is a good idea. I’m adding more soy back into my diet as well. I keep wondering if going back to full Vegetarian would be my best bet.

      Yeah the biggest argument though is that it tastes like absolute shit and eating a grass-only diet would make me want to throw myself off a cliff in 5 days lol.
      Look man, there are certain benefits to a plant-based diet. But food is one of the biggest pleasures in life, and most humans (if being honest) will tell you that there are few things more delicious than a well-prepared steak or some fresh sushi.
      Asking people to give up on one of their major sources of happiness does not seem like a wise plan IMHO. I'd rather live till 70 with my current omnivorous diet than gamble on gaining 5 more years by having to give up one of my favorite things in life.
      So no, it's really not that hard to argue against plant based lol. Not everyone is a robot that sees food as a mere source of energy and nutrients. Food is a social activity and a major source of pleasure. Disrupt that and you'll find yourself a lot more miserable, even if you don't want to admit it's due to your diet.

      EXCEPT your "protein" is not nearly as nutrient dense as a carnivore/ketovore diet. You can't get heme iron from a plant based diet and you can't get as much cholesterol as your body needs compared to eating saturated fat, which your brain ALSO needs to run well. Most of the nutrients in plants are locked in and CAN'T BE DIGESTED, unlike meat. You ALSO don't need fiber for your digestive system nor do you need to poop nearly as much as almost ALL of the food you eat is digested when eating carnivore. Plus you have FAR LESS inflammation from the poisons and toxins that plants naturally produce in order to protect themselves since they also don't like to be eaten. The ACTUAL research not bought by Kellogg's and Pepsi Co clearly show that saturated fat is GOOD and needed as the primary fuel source for humans and that we absolutely DO NOT NEED carbs as fuel, let alone it be our PRIMARY fuel source. That's why everyone is so fat and diabetic today with their HbA1c so dang high!
