      Hello Prof. Saeed. I'm enrolled in PhD program and currently working on my thesis. The area I am working on is green finance. I have been overwhelmed with the immense amount of literature. I did not know about the thematic approach although while reading papers i used to feel some kind of synthesis based on common characteristics. I have watched your other videos too and they provided me clarity. Today I watched your video on writing background of study, and I felt I need to be more critical. @@saeedsharif

      I belong to Pakistan and usually the Asian students face difficulty in being critical towards studies. I would request you if you make some more videos on this subject with examples. Also if possible can you do post-mortem (as an example) of an entire research paper highlighting aim, motivation, contribution, etc. How to align the storyline in Introduction is a challenging phase and with pieces of some examples, it would help to identify proper sections in a research paper. Many Thanks Prof.

    Nice one,but I think reporting individual Author's findings is a matter of writing styles rather than rules, provided it follows logical sequence. It may not be necessary that you group all the findings in one paragraph or in thematic forms as you pointed out

    • @saeedsharif
      @saeedsharif  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thank you for the comment. What I explained were not rules! They are tips that can improve your work in the eyes of editors, reviewers, and examiners. Of course, you can summarize the studies in your literature review one by one. However, I consider that to be at a beginner level. You can take your work to another level by following the tips that I shared with you.

    Thanks prof. for these intersting advices which araise a question, my question is "should LR include answers for why questions based on understanding of author i.e. due to low performance of method1 due to ..., another line proposed method2, or the answer should come from the researches under review to avoid Bais in reporting others works."
    Even I know in research paper the author can critically answer such why question to justify his/her position.
    Thanks in advance for your generous advices

    • @saeedsharif
      @saeedsharif  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thank you for your question. It touches upon a fundamental aspect of research methodology and literature review, which is the philosophical stance a researcher adopts.
      In quantitative studies, researchers often embrace a positivist standpoint, emphasizing objectivity and independence from the research subject. This perspective encourages the separation of the researcher from the research itself, with a focus on empirical data and statistical analysis. On the other hand, qualitative works more frequently adopt an interpretivist standpoint. Researchers here acknowledge their active role in shaping the research process and its outcomes. They recognize that their own perspectives and biases can influence the study. This paradigm shift is significant, as it allows for a more flexible and engaged role in the research process.
      In qualitative research, the concept of "reflexivity" becomes important. Reflexivity means the researcher's self-awareness and acknowledgment of their influence on the research. It requires researchers to explain who they are, their perspectives, and how these factors may affect the research and the interpretation of data. This aspect is typically addressed in the methodology section of qualitative studies. It's an essential practice to maintain transparency and ensure that readers understand the researcher's standpoint and potential biases.
      Shifting our focus to the literature review, you've raised an important challenge. A literature review involves critiquing and analyzing existing literature using other literature. It's a delicate task because it requires maintaining objectivity while providing your judgments and interpretations, "all of which should be well-supported by the literature you're reviewing". This balancing act necessitates presenting various authors' perspectives and offering your own insights and analysis, all while ensuring that your judgments are grounded in the literature itself. Do you want me to share a sample with you?
