Hi....something comes to my mind after watching your old video on Systematic Lit Review. You had mentioned that thesis and empirical research paper base on Traditional Narrative Lit Review (the left-hand-side extreme). The review is depending on the judgment of the author. Please show what kind of judgment that usually comes to the mind of well-known researchers/gurus of the field. Thank you. ** perhaps after finish the typical video series (From chapter 1 to Chapter 5 Conclusion), you may make a new series on Systematic Lit Review. ** in my personal opinion, Synthesis is applied through out the whole chapters in a thesis.
Thank you for the suggestion. I will do my best to share my personal experience regarding writing a good literature review. As you mentioned, synthesis is a crucial aspect of this process. Also, the ability to synthesise other elements of your work is important. When it comes to judgment, some aspects are subjective, while others adhere to certain rules. For example, there are general guidelines for assessing the quality of papers to be reviewed. However, it is important to remember that a rigid approach or framework may make the qualitative literature review (on the left side of the spectrum) appear more systematic and objective. So, at the end, selection of what to review to some extent depends on your choice as the researcher. Btw, I understand your points. Hopefully I'll cover them well in the next videos :)

Thank you for the excellent video. I am curious about the difference between a research goal/aim and a research objective. From my understanding, a research goal/aim is intended to address a specific issue or gap in existing knowledge that we aim to solve through our research. Additionally, how can one formulate a research goal/aim that aligns with the research objective?
Thank you for your valuable feedback and your question. A research goal or aim is a broad and overarching statement that defines the fundamental purpose or direction of a research study, outlining the researcher's general intentions. These statements describe the ultimate objective or aspiration of the research project. Research goals or aims are often more abstract and less specific than research objectives, which are the concrete and measurable steps or tasks that researchers undertake to achieve their research aim. Research goals lay the foundation for the study, guiding the development of research objectives, hypotheses, and methodologies. So, a research goal or aim sets the overarching direction and purpose of a study, addressing the 'why' of the research, while research objectives break down this aim into specific, measurable, and actionable steps, answering the 'what' of the research. Ensuring alignment between these two elements is key, as each research objective should directly contribute to achieving the broader research goal.

Thank you Prof. Sharif! I read in different papers that research questions and objectives are used interchangeably. Can we just use either of them in our paper?
Exactly! Typically, we do not include both versions in the paper. I believe making a video about this topic would be beneficial. Indeed, this is one of the reasons why papers often face desk rejections. Adhering too closely to the thesis format when writing a paper can introduce bias to the editors and reviewers, potentially leading to rejection. By the way, have you had a chance to watch my three videos on desk rejections?

Hi,dr. Saeed: This is lydia from UUM. Thanks for sharing the latest section with us. I noticed that the research questions in qualitative research are related to each other, maybe starting with what is the phenomenon? How is formed and finally what are the effects on sth ? My question is there are 4 research questions in my Phd thesis and i am preparing the graduation article , so what are the numbers of research questions in my article is appropriate? I want to focus one or two, but the research questions are correlated. How to choose the right research questions from the thesis? I have collected my data and my the title of my article is decided from some data. Hope you can give me some tips. Thanks a lot, dr.
Thank you for your response. Regarding your first question, the research questions in qualitative research are not necessarily structured as related like the way as I demonstrated in the video. The examples I provided were simply intended to give you an idea of the types of "what," "how," and "why" questions that can be used in qualitative research.
Regarding your second question, something came to my mind that I need to share with you. In splitting your research questions into a few groups to increase number of publications consider its ethical implications too. One important consideration is the potential issue of "salami publications." Salami publication refers to the practice of dividing research questions and findings into several smaller publications, often with slight variations in data or methodology, to artificially increase the number of publications. This practice can be ethically problematic, as it can lead to redundant or fragmented literature, potentially compromising the quality and integrity of the research. It is important to carefully evaluate the significance and coherence of each paper resulting from the thesis, ensuring that each publication contributes unique and valuable insights to the literature.
@@saeedsharif yeah, you are right. Dr, Saeed. I will reconsider it. In fact, there are two key terms in my qualitative research., so i plan to focus on one term in the article. And when i am analyzing the data, i found there are several points i can choose. Maybe when you are available, you can prepare a topic like this: how to produce the article from the phd thesis. Thanks for replying me. I learnt the new term of "salami publications". Thanks a lot!
@@lydiazhang7390 Good morning! That's great to hear! Indeed, publishing multiple papers from your thesis can be acceptable and valuable, as long as there is a valid justification for doing so. It's always important to be aware of the ethical considerations, such as avoiding salami publications, and ensuring that each paper adds substantial and distinct contributions to the field. And, you are right! This can be a very good topic for my future videos. Thank you for the suggestion! :)
Hello, Is it possible to have a single research question/an objective, deriving from the aim/purpose of the study ? If so, there is no difference between the aim and the research objective or else between the research problem and the research question, right ? For instance, let's say a study aims to explore how customers derive value during the interactions with chatbots (aim/purpose or the problem). Then the research question is, how customers derive value during interactions with chatbots, which is same as the problem. Is it possible for problem and research question/s or aim and the objective/s to be the same ? By considering this example, could you suggest me how to derive several questions from this ? Do we need to support research questions are derived from gaps ??
Thanks for the question. I have covered this in my other videos. The RO and RQ for mediation can be stated as follows: M mediates the relationship between X and Y. What is the mediating role of M in the relationship between X and Y. I personally in some studies state it as Does M mediate the relationship between X and Y?

Hello Prof. Dr. Saeed, in my opinion the research question that you posed as a challenge is too broad?. First, it should specify the context of the social media i.e.,, social media usage, social media usage costs etc., Second, it should specify the context for the young adults as well i.e., young adults' monthly expenditure, young adults' time spent with their children per day, young adults' pattern of buying tablets for their children etc., Third, it should state the general context of the research i.e., in the World?, specific country?, or any other specific location and probably when.
The problem in this research question at the end of the video is that it seems quite ambigeous; one may not be able to point out which direction the research is going or what problem is to be addressed here. Only questioning effect is not concrete since there might be positive and negative impact as well with hundreds of potential issues. It would better to be specific like how social media is affecting the sleeping cycle/CGPA/career choice.
@@saeedsharif Prof, I think narrowing down the question would be more practical; like; Does social media inclusion have any impact on career choice of business graduates of public universities in Bangladesh (or any other country)? Another can be "How social media content affect the investment decision of non-business graduates? I am not an expert on that definitely; but these questions could be asked to satisfy the objective.

Can I use both qualitative and quantitative methods in my research proposal
hello could i use descriptive design for a qualitative research in communication sciences
@@saeedsharif Yes, would be great if you make new videos to clarify. Of course I've watched all your videos (except the Persian ones;)) and they are all helpful. If possible, please make some tutorials on PLS-SEM and guidance for new reviewers, this is something that universities don't teach us. Best, Chen
@@chenyang5408 Thank you for watching all the videos and providing such encouraging feedback :) I also appreciate your suggestion. I have a list of 50+ topics for future videos, and I update it based on the feedback I receive from my audience. I agree with you that the content I share is not typically taught in university courses. My goal is to create content that solves your problems. I want you to watch a 10-minute video and then say, 'Yes! Now I know what to do,' and just take action! I will teach you 'how' to do it in a few simple steps, and all you have to do is implement them. That's it!
Hello sir.Are all lab based works quantitative and all survey based works qualitative research?
Could you please guide me on my research question “ whether it is right or wrong
Why young women prefer fast fashion over sustainable fashion in Pakistan
Hi,dr. Saeed:
This is lydia from UUM.
Hello,
Is it possible to have a single research question/an objective, deriving from the aim/purpose of the study ? If so, there is no difference between the aim and the research objective or else between the research problem and the research question, right ?
For instance, let's say a study aims to explore how customers derive value during the interactions with chatbots (aim/purpose or the problem). Then the research question is, how customers derive value during interactions with chatbots, which is same as the problem. Is it possible for problem and research question/s or aim and the objective/s to be the same ?
By considering this example, could you suggest me how to derive several questions from this ? Do we need to support research questions are derived from gaps ??
Lovely professor!
Thank you 😊
How can i formulate research questions of a paper with mediating variables??
Thanks for the question. I have covered this in my other videos.
The RO and RQ for mediation can be stated as follows: M mediates the relationship between X and Y. What is the mediating role of M in the relationship between X and Y. I personally in some studies state it as Does M mediate the relationship between X and Y?
Too good
Thank you so much
Most welcome 😊
Very useful, thank you
Very use ful sir...Can i contact to you sir for my research guidance
If we have 3 research questions, can we have mix of descriptive studies and comparative studies?
Thanks Dr. Saeed Sharif for your time and effort, Can you share the ppt file if you can.
Sure. I'll upload them on my Google Drive and share the link tomorrow. Thank you for the suggestion.
Thanks, Dr.@@saeedsharif.

What do you mean? :)
too good.thanks

NICE!!
I am doing qualitative research
Was the video useful for your qualitative research?
@@saeedsharif Yes! Thank you Dr.Saeed!
the question does not permit further research because it is asked in so a way that a yes and no answer can be provided. thanks
Absolutely! It doesn't initiate further research! So, can you tell me how to write the research question?
Great
Thanks alot sir.
Hello Prof.
❤
Dr can you please share with us the pdf of How to Write Research Objectives and Research Questions? Thank you
thank you so much sir
The problem in this research question at the end of the video is that it seems quite ambigeous; one may not be able to point out which direction the research is going or what problem is to be addressed here. Only questioning effect is not concrete since there might be positive and negative impact as well with hundreds of potential issues. It would better to be specific like how social media is affecting the sleeping cycle/CGPA/career choice.
That's a great response! Could you please write a good research question for that then?
@@saeedsharif Prof, I think narrowing down the question would be more practical; like; Does social media inclusion have any impact on career choice of business graduates of public universities in Bangladesh (or any other country)? Another can be "How social media content affect the investment decision of non-business graduates? I am not an expert on that definitely; but these questions could be asked to satisfy the objective.
The questions is not addressing the format because the answer cab be yes or no. Thank you
it shows the answer for the question is a yes or no
Well done!
Can I have ur email address please sir
