In thesis writing, some institutions demanded that the cited articles should not be more than ten years. Please Doc. would it be a appropriate if I cite one article for each idea?
Thank you for the questions. 1. What I shared is best practice based on my experience. number of articles to cite depends on the context, and topic too. It is fine if you cite only 1 article to support an idea. However, citing more articles would strengthen your argument. 2. It depends on the field and topic. In the end, you have to follow the required format. But based on my experience, in social sciences it is fine to cite papers published more than 10 years ago too though you should cite some recently published articles too. If all articles have published 2 decades ago, it may mean that the topic is outdated!

However, since you are using both interviews and questionnaires, using a mixed methods approach sounds like a good idea. 1. What I shared is best practice based on my experience. number of articles to cite depends on the context, and topic too. It is fine if you cite only 1 article to support an idea. However, citing more articles would strengthen your argument.
2. It depends on the field and topic. In the end, you have to follow the required format. But based on my experience, in social sciences it is fine to cite papers published more than 10 years ago too though you should cite some recently published articles too. If all articles have published 2 decades ago, it may mean that the topic is outdated!
