I noticed that some of the components you mentioned under the Statement of the Problem were also mentioned under the Background to the Study. For example, the component "What we already know both in practice and literature" Further, should it be "Background to the Study" or "Background of the Study"?

      That's great! My suggestion for your first paper is to find a few good papers as samples to follow. Watch my new video on systematic literature review. I've explained this approach for writing literature review.

    I am writing a PhD thesis, according to my university Chapter 1 titled Introduction. This chapter elements as the following:
    1.1 Introduction
    1.2 Background
    1.3 Problem Statement
    The question is: If I follow what you mentioned in Background,the [1.1 Introduction section ]what should include?

    • @saeedsharif
      @saeedsharif  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hi,
      The goal of this summary section is to efficiently convey the key information from your introduction chapter, allowing readers to understand the context, problem, objectives, and overall significance of your research. It serves as a quick preview, encouraging readers to continue exploring your thesis with a clear sense of direction. You may consider addressing the following in this section:
      * Thesis Context and Relevance: Briefly introduce the topic's context and its relevance.
      * General Problem Statement: Present a concise version of the overarching problem or area of investigation.
      * Research Focus and Objectives: Summarize the specific focus and main objectives of your research.
      * Motivation and Gap Identification: Provide a concise overview of your motivation and the gap you're addressing.
      * Contribution and Significance: Quickly outline how your research fills the gap and its broader significance.
      * Methodology Overview: Provide a brief summary of your chosen research methods.
      * Structure of the Thesis: Give a condensed outline of the main chapters or sections of your thesis.
      * Transition to the Next Sections: Conclude by smoothly transitioning to the following sections within the introduction chapter.
      Btw, the format and outline also depend on your supervisor and institution. You should consult with your supervisor to gain a clear understanding of their expectations for this section. You can also obtain sample theses from your library that were submitted by previous students. While not all of them might be exemplary, they could still provide you with some ideas.
      Please let me know about about yourself and your work. :)

    Infact, very important and impressive.
    Questions
    1.Please, if my research topic has less number of articles. Can I cite one article for each idea? For example, the out break of a new disease.
    2. In thesis writing, some institutions demanded that the cited articles should not be more than ten years. Please Doc. would it be a appropriate if I cite one article for each idea?

    • @saeedsharif
      @saeedsharif  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you for the questions.
      1. What I shared is best practice based on my experience. number of articles to cite depends on the context, and topic too. It is fine if you cite only 1 article to support an idea. However, citing more articles would strengthen your argument.
      2. It depends on the field and topic. In the end, you have to follow the required format. But based on my experience, in social sciences it is fine to cite papers published more than 10 years ago too though you should cite some recently published articles too. If all articles have published 2 decades ago, it may mean that the topic is outdated!

    Respected Sir. I am A research scholar from Pakistan, Want to make a few qs: 1. how we can prove that this model (we are using in a research )is effective? 2. Is it necessary to give very recent references? 3. My study is based on Survey(Interview and questionnaire for students and teachers of Eng at university level, would it be right to use mixed method

    • @saeedsharif
      @saeedsharif  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hi,
      Here is my response to your questions:
      1. I'm not sure what you mean by proving that your research model is effective.
      2. Ensure you have cited some recently published works; otherwise, it may indicate that either your literature review is not up to date or your topic is outdated.
      3. The choice of mixed methods depends on other factors, such as the objectives of your study too. However, since you are using both interviews and questionnaires, using a mixed methods approach sounds like a good idea. It will provide a more comprehensive understanding of the perspectives of students and teachers of English at the university level. By combining qualitative and quantitative data, you can strengthen the validity and reliability of your findings.
      Good luck with your research! If you need any further assistance, feel free to ask.
