  • In this video I am trolling crankbaits for crappie on the lower end of Truman Lake. The air temperature started out at 77 degrees and climbed into the mid 90's. The water temperature was 83 degrees. Everything was hot, including the crappie fishing.

    We have had great luck running crankbaits right along side of our jigs. We use 3oz. weights to keep the jigs down at the accelerated speeds needed for the crankbaits. Works like a charm especially on the deeper crappie. Thanks for for the great videos Mr. Baker.

    Mike I remember coming across your very first video right after you posted it a few years back and just fell in love with trolling crankbaits for crappie. I set my boat up and started pulling crankbaits that same day. I've been pulling crankbaits now for several years watching your videos and I've got some great crappy and I just wanted to say thank you for posting these videos not only in my neck of the woods so I can see what structure you're fishing but also to help me learn about proper techniques to catch these fish. I've had a lot of success so thank you very much.

    Love that you are keeping it real. We all have had times when cranking when things don't go smooth. I have been there done that with hang ups. Proper setting on the drag helps keep things so I can keep moving forward with the rest of the baits out until I can attend to the one that is hung up on a tree or the bottom.

      @robertluckadoo5940 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@DAWSONDRUMMER1 depends on the depth you are trying to achieve. I use the Precision Trolling App on my iPhone for the particular bait I am using. For Bandit 300s, 55 feet of 15/3 braid is about 13 feet. Just depends on your thermocline in the summer and the depth you are trying to achieve. On crank baits, amount of line out has much more effect on depth than it does on long lining jigs. Speed, I run between 1.5 and 1.8 depending on what the fish are wanting that particular day.

    I’ve fished crank baits before and they don’t really get to proper depth. I noticed all you do is throw them out. Does the water pressure from trolling just pull them down to desired depth?

    • @MikeBakerVideos
      @MikeBakerVideos  ปีที่แล้ว

      Any crank bait will run at a certain depth depending on the shape of the bill, line size and speed. I usually run Bandit 300's with 8 lb. line at around 1.6 mph. With that set up they will run about 18 to 20ft. deep.
