Nice to see that in many years time, even if you have an ID4 with broken AC it can still work well as an EV.
“Depress the brake” - Premium Dad joke 🎉😂
Seems like VW improved the software speed with version 4
Seems quicker than Audis software.
I had to travel 800km with a broken AC compressor with my Peugeot e-208 2 months ago. I was ready for some old Leaf experience!
Lucky for me, the outside temperature was mostly 10-15°C and the coolant was apparently still circulating, so it was still cooling reasonably well even without the compressor. I managed to charge multiple times before it would rapidgate at 49°C, and that was only when I charged quite high (to 90%) for a longer leg. And I saw output power very limited when driving away, before gradually recovering couple of minutes later between 48-47°C. Even then, it managed to go down to 32°C when I reached the next charge stop and then heat up to 45°C only after charging to 80%.
Proper summer would surely kill me with rapidgate, but this was actually working fine!
Impressive that it's on par with Model Y LR now - and I guess eGMP SUVs?
But I have seen others test the new Id4 RWD and it didn’t have this new charging curve. Seems to have been reserved for the 4wd models..?
On par with model Y only as long as the ID4 has the AC off :D
Hope you'll be able to do a 1000 km challenge driving the new Scenic E-tech, I'd like to see how good it is. And just because I am going to drive it from Fance to Arsvagen....
The tire pressure warning is due to warm weather. The pressure increase with heat so the system detects a change in pressure due to the circumference of the tires changing.
If the tire pressure was set at like 0-10C and you drive at +20-25C in the sun the pressure will rise enough to trigger this due to heating of the rubber.
Nice to see 1000km challenge in daylight and sunny weather 😊
Some interesting improvements to the ID4. Would be very interested to see how this performs against the new Ford Explorer considering they are both build on new MEB and are similar size / class etc
I was thinking the same thing. The screen performance is light years ahead of the previous model. Also that charging curve without a/c cooling was impressive.
looking at the ford explorer, like the interior better...and if it has similar performance...it's a very good option
Performance on the prefacelift up to 60% seems to be very similar
ID4 with faults and warnings. What a surprise! 😉 😂 I had it for 2 years. Never agin.
Very interesting test. I must say, the performance of the car was still really good. I guess, they just changed from winter to summer tires and forgot to save the new pressure settings.
I have this every time when I get my car from back from the dealership ;)
Maybe the consumption was so low, because you had basically Tesla style tire pressure 😂
Is the good efficiency in part from the kaput ac?
The new 2024 models are supposed to have better efficiency now
Not really. AC would consume about 1 kW on average. That means about 10 kWh over 10 hours or 10 Wh/km.
That infotainment/software and charging speed are way better than the previous model. Good job VW!
My 2023 ID4 only charges 135kW max and the software is very sluggish even with ID Software 3.5.
You are likely getting charger limited 2021 can hit 190kW under 30%
@@subbiahpalani maybe the GTX, not my version (Pro 77kWh RWD)
Great video!
ID4 has certainly become much better.
Looking forward to the TM3 highland summer 1000 km challenge, when will that be?
14:57 mark. I'm yelling at the video, NOOOO BJORN, Trust Your GPS. lol. I didn't trust mine a couple times like that and paid for it. My wife was sitting beside me giving me that look. Thanks for this one Bjorn.
Google which is quite accurate didn't pick that route but chose the regular detour route where the accident was.
On a summer day my ID.3 hit heavy and aperently cold rain. All 4 Tyre sensors suddenly light up on the display and gave me a chok, nothing was wrong but I guess a sudden drop in pressure triggers the sensors
"you can get a GTX, ID.3 that is rear wheel drive, just to make the confusion complete" 😀😀😀
Pretty good time ! Are you going to test Model Y LR RWD ?
Well, he did!
Are you sure ? Cant find it.. RWD with blade battery i did see but not LR
I'm impressed with how well the updated version did considering how heavy it is. I see this AWD has the 19 inch rims. Unfortunately in Canada you can only get 20 or 21 inch rims on the 2024 AWD!
to those complaining:
1 - A/C can always break from one day to the next by a rodent destroying a pipe
2 - the tire pressure is measured by spinning differntiation between the wheels and is "calibrated" by hitting the reset button when all tires are cold and - more impotantly - at the same temperature.
If someone using the car before Bjorn hit that reset when the tires were on different temperatures, e.g. left ones warmer than right ones due to sunshine, the system will give an alarm, once the temperatures are even again and the difference in rpm above the trigger (mixed in timing threshold also involved I guess - and steering angle of course), then the system will cause an alarm. It's not bad sensors, they've just been calibrated the wrong way.
I've experienced that with my Octavia (I had 2009...2018). I had that false alarm aswell in rare cases (usually after tire changes or air refills and, I guess, resetting at the wrong point or forgetting to do so), it was somewhat annyoing indeed. Now I have my 2018 Ioniq with TPMS and indeed, I like that solution a lot better, also because I can see how far from having under- or over-inflated tires the car is. The ABS sensor approach VW uses saves money, also for the customer in case of repairs, but after long term comparison, I'd still prefer TPMS. But still, the ID.4's sensors are not defect, because otherwise it would mean an ABS and ESP/ESC/ASP malfunction - and that would certainly be displayed prominently.
this shows how much drain a/c takes on your car, i run it 24/7 in the car and the day i drove with windows down i saw a 15%+ in range
VAG cars tyre senses react to pressure changes, so if they pumped them up before you got it then a warning a short time later isn’t unusual. Not the best system, but once you’ve reset it any further change would be loss of pressure.
At 26:37 I legit thought there was a cybertruck parked up the hill behind the cars.
How would be the time with outside temp +30C?
Bjorn. Did you consider the superior VW voice command technolgy? When u say Klima kaputt the car was just executing your commands.
I've had the tyre pressure warning give off a false alarm on my ID.4 from 2021, too. Everything was fine.
Most likely the tpms is not broken in the one Björn tested. I had the same thing happend with mine. I changed from winter to summer tyres and forgot to reset the tpms. After driving a while the warning came on but the tyres were ok. I then reset the tpms and it was fine after that.
In fact I double checked with the wife's Mii electric and indeed the same thing happened with that one too after changing the tyres.
@@jyrkipaavola. There is no TPMS sensors. It uses the ABS sensors to check the tire pressure. If the car had just swapped to summer tires that could be the reason, different rolling resistance.
I'm aware of how the system works. Maybe tpms was a wrong choice of words 😁 The reason for my warning was that I didn't reset the system after changing tyres. My guess is something similar happened with Björn's test drive.
This is due to software bug, when changing region data for TPMS messes up
The 2021 Audi Q4 etron of my uncle had a bad battery module. Needed replacement.
How is this any relevant?
Can you comment if the handling felt different compared to RWD?
For sure without A/C you get better consumption :D
Barely. It consumes about 1 kW on average. That's only 10 Wh/km difference.
@@bjornnyland no a/c and over inflated tyres could be up to 20wh/km almost 10%....
Let's just hope VW hasn't made the AC a subscription service 😂
Impressive results despite the issues. Let us know if you figure out why it’s broken, perhaps a rodent? Will you retest it with the cooling working?
If I would be some manager in VAG I would really make sure that the responsible people for Demo / Press cars get some additional training how to prepare / check the cars before handing them out to customers. You can't do worse by just giving out faulty cars to journalists / influencers...
"Only 12 stalls"... In Hungary it would be "if only" :D
I had an issue with my 2021 ID.4 a while ago, AC had a leak through one of the seals and no gas, so no cooling. There weren't any issues reported on the infotainment, so it looks like VW don't have a check on that
I have the same problem with my 2021 1st. All the coolant has leaked out during the winter. First warm day of the spring and no cool air coming from the vents. They checked it at the local dealer's but couldn't find the leak. It was filled up and was checked again after a couple of weeks and everything was fine. It's been working ok since but I'm afraid it will leak out again eventually. Hopefully not during our road trip to Norway some time later this summer 😬
@@jyrkipaavola. Sounds like a similar experience to me. Mine started having issues last summer, air wouldn't get cooled. The local VW garage checked it and said they couldn't find anything wrong. Then winter happened and I stopped caring
Fast forward to now, same problem arises. Rang local VW garage again, they told me the air conditioner testing machine was busted and said to go to another VW garage (I wonder was the machine busted last summer as well 🤔)
The other garage had a 2 week wait for appointments, so in the end I paid for an independent specialist to look at it. They found the leak in about 20 mins and had the whole thing fixed and regassed in just over an hour
It cost me €250, but the issue is fixed now
I'm seriously starting to question the value of car warranties when the main garages just don't fix anything. I'm now having issues with a door seal and VW are dragging their feet on getting a part in
I love my ID.4, I'd be very tempted to get another VW when it's time to replace it, but I won't be bringing it to VW to fix anything unless they're my last option
Good thing is that if the gas goes out of the system it is a natural refrigerant. Actually it is CO2 (R744) and hence the heat pump is very efficient for heating process. However i am puzzled they have this issue. will follow it closely as I get mine this week or next. WV ID4 Style 4 Motion (Danish campaign version the Style I think) Was the filling of gas (CO2/R744) expensive?
Think it is time to replace my Focus EV soon, really want something with more charging speed and range. 160 km just do not do it anymore.
Impressed by this ID4 despite the issues with the AC.
You missed the iconic Tjörn Bridge Björn! Famous from the terrible accident ...
17:05 When you showed the route planner while charging, the car already was telling you that the normal route was closed
The normal route (E6) has been closed for a long time in case you don't know it. There was a landslide around Stenungsund last year. Both Google and car's navigation would take the faster east detour. What you saw there was *not* the accident point.
@@bjornnyland Oh. ok. I didn’t know that. Sorry
ID.7 with same battery also seems to rapidgate >55 % SoC. Recently saw a test video on a German channel.
He had HVAC running while fast charging?
@@bjornnyland it was not mentioned in the video. @MichaelSchmittBEN did the the test (in German). He compared his ID.7 charging curve with other curves from other testers and it was very similar. Seemed like ID.7 curve is boosted until around 45-50 % SoC and then drops sharply to the older charging curves e.g. of ID.5. But the drop on the ID.4 you tested with broken AC seemed to be even worse.
VW logic is to cool battery after DCFC when unplugged alone. This reduces useable energy for driving. It would be really nice to compare to iD4 with working AC.
No worries running without A/C. The car is probably more efficient this way. I use my A/C about once a year.
Darn good for the problems this model was having.
For that price not even pressure sensors what the helllll
Secret for a quick 1000km test, don't use A/C...ancient Chinese secret...😂🤣😂
They cheat the WLTP test by turning off the A/C..
Model Y LR RWD 1000km test would be interesting.
Id bugg!
"Interior is the same", proceeds to ignore the new stalk for "gears", the new infotainment and software equal to ID7.
Without AC the consumption must be at least 1kWh lower in my opinion. That leads to a better time in my thinking.
Marginal difference. 10 kWh total only takes 3-5 minutes extra charging time.
@@bjornnyland since you where not cooking in the car the difference was probably very low. 10-15 degrees feels like optimum driving temprature. Ne need for cooling or heating is my own experience. Drove Trysil-Oslo this weekend with AC of all way.
I assumed GTX meant Gore-Tex. So it means it's waterproof
The pressures being so high is probably because it stood in a showroom. This is done to prevent deformation of tires that are stationary on one spot.
They probably forgot to deflate to the proper pressure for driving.
These are press cars, not showroom cars.
Higher pressure give lower consumption, better result, but more wear on tyres
The sidewalls of those Hankook tyres look horrible.
Could you please update your 1000km challenge conditions. Just add 150 kg baggage emulating passengers in the car.
It's insignificant.
VAG cuality!
16:30 'This function is only available when the ignition is switched on.' So it is a hybrid! 🤣
Ignition (Terminal 15) has nothing to do with Hybrid or ICE whatsoever.
@@arsni23
As there is literally no ignition in an EV, the wording is obsolete. Just like the "Start Stop Engine" button that some legacy automakers still use in EVs....🤦🏼♂
@@Armus769 ignition is a seperate circuit, every car has is to „turn on and be ready“.
@@arsni23 Of course. But don't call it Ignition in an EV please, at least not in the UI.
@@Armus769 i can agree from a usability standpoint, 99% of the regular users wont know what is meant with „ignition“.
kWh/h made me chuckle 🤣

Dein Deutsch wird immer besser. Enjoy the Hustensaft.
For safety, didn't feel safe checking the tire pressure on such a heavily trafficked road.
It would be unsafe to keep driving. I already drove almost 10 minutes before I stopped.
Baustelle, Stau, Kaputt why those german words?
Nice Sun click bait title; I came for the broken battery and it turned out to be broken battery COOLING?!
The Sun never reads the title of the video?
Is this video sponsor by Onlyfans?
7:20 "it is as if the car is running on onlyfans" 😏
Why is Björn roasting VW at the moment?
He actually wrote "My favorite car" about ID.7 (which has very similar tech to ID.4), so he's not necessarily roasting. It's just catchy title for the video, it wouldn't get so many clicks if it was just called "1000 km again, this time ID4".
@@Lascarnnhe said the same about the eqs and eqe tbf, he says shit all the time, would be different if he actually bought an id7.
@@Lascarnnhe didn’t pick the ID.7 as his personal car what are you saying?
Roasting? Really?
How is he roasting VW?!
Yes other brands have problems as well , but none of them have a problem like Elon Maga Musk .
Vw was founded by Nazis, the bug was hitlers personal peoples car project and their main factory in Wolfsburg had the cornerstone laid by Hitler himself. 😂
Bmw made engines for the fock wolfe fighters which killed more allied bomber crews than any other axis plane.
Mitsubishi made the zero, made the yamato class battleships etc.

How is this acceptable and you acting happy to test without AC cooling and broken tire sensors. :)
Warranty repair my friend. It's not that big of a deal.
Amazing power usage, tyres on 4.5 bar ! Hello... Abc always be cheating
The id.4 has no tire sensors. ABS rev count instead. 😊
@@Blasterxp 4.5, where do you get that? Bjorn gets 3.1 at 4:44, where 2.7 is the manufacturer's norm figure - with cold tires. After they warm up, you can easily have 0.3 more, so nothing out of the usual. Especially not, if they have been set to exactly correct values a week earlier at 10 degrees less outside temp.
@@oenkepoenke easy easy, it would or could be a way to cheat. That's all. I think they are over.
Man so many of these VW:s you have tested have been broken
Onlyfans 😂😂
Not so convincing to me. Broken cooler and faulty tire alarms. Hmm
You normally dont normalize the Alarm after driving the car for a few Kilometers. Only do this when cold tire. It was the fault of previous drivers / users normalizing the tires after driving a few Meters. Even Tempchanges from outside will affect the Pressure and if the sensors catch it at the wrong moment they will alarm.
This looks like a rare case, considering how many new ID4 and ID7s (similar tech) are already on the road. Should be covered by warranty without much problem. For me the most important thing is that they fixed the software and make it much faster. Truth is that in many brands (incl. Tesla) can have random defects, but covered by warranty
Not to mention the fact that the ID3 also had issues during tests, twice with the same car.
Just go to the dealership once and get it fixed it‘s not that hard
