I have a 2002 T5 and I honestly believe that was the best purchase I've ever made. Parts are expensive as hell, but they rarely break and are reliable af. Drove mine on a cracked CV axle for almost a year and she still won a few races even
My dad once traded keys for a ride with his friends wrx Sri for his V70r. My dad remembers nothing about the sti, but the sti owner was shocked by the V70r’s performance.
As a former V70R (the station wagon variant of the S60R) here are a few things to consider when purchasing. The radio is known to catch frequencies from more modern newer vehicles causing the vehicle to randomly change to the station of the vehicle next to you on its own. The struts cost about $500 a corner to replace yourself, the front upper and lower balljoints go bad in about 30,000 miles. The stock catalytic converter goes out around 90-100k miles and oem replacement is $2100 whereas an aftermarket exhaust will run you about $1200-$1500. If you're lookin at an automatic be EXTREMELY WARY of the 5 speed variants as they habe serious shift slip issues, sometimes changing the trans fluid will solve it for a while but it will come back. The manual and 6 speed auto seem to have no issues. And finally the Haldex differntial needs the gear oil changed every 50,000 miles, it's not in the service manual but it has to be changed or you will lose AWD. P.S. if you are thinking of buying one of these cars you have to make sure there's a dealer near you with a master technician who knows how to work on these cars or you will regret ever buying one. Oh yeah and don't smash the headlight's into anything, they're $1700 a piece to replace.
My brother has a 05 s60r and he’s put a front mount, aluminum piping, blow off valve, tuned and it runs like complete shit. Always giving him issues. 140k miles. I have one. Turbo decided to nope out today. This is after the haldex went, and the radiator, and the power steering, and the water pump, and the fan, maf, timing belt, a/c, and bushings everywhere in just over a year of ownership. These cars can put you in deep, it sucks that I love it so much. Would recommend being prepared for wrenching
@@YungOdellz I do my own work on my V70R. I tossed the 4C for Coilovers. The 4C is one the most expensive things to deal with. Just buying the shocks and struts could put you back up to $1500.
I've had a V70 R 6 speed wagon that I ordered new in 2004 for almost 17 years now. It's my favorite road trip car, with it's selectable suspension settings, plenty of power for mountain passes, incredible comfort and insane top end. Plus, it's a wagon - it hauls a lot of bags. My main complaint is the notorious angle gear problem. My R is totally stock, except for the resonator delete and hoop of death removed. I don't beat it. My first angle gear problem came at just under 60K miles. Had it repaired (incorrectly), which along with a couple of other minor 60K mile checks came to 3500 bucks. Angle gear is starting to fail again at 71,000 miles, so I ordered a hardened spline sleeve. It will be another $3000 to have it installed, if I can find someone to do the work properly. Hopefully that will take care of it for another 60,000 miles. I do worry about other big problems - suspension, cylinders failing...but I just love this car, will probably just keep throwing money at it forever.
I owned an s60r for 3 years, didn't appreciate it enough and sold it in 2016. I have regretted it every day since and bought another s60r yesterday. This car drives better than most cars I've driven.
I own a 04 6spd and this video is pretty spot on as far as reliability issues. Beyond that I'd say my only gripes are some paint issues on the center console and the turn radius. Overall so much fun, and so cheap these days. I don't drive it a ton these days but it never fails to put a smile on my face
I have a 2005 S60 R and I have never loved a car so much! I have it to stage 0 with all new front and rear suspension. Only mod I would consider is the IPD oval tube exhaust kit for better exhaust notes. I found from original owner that took great care of it but with 142000 miles it was bound to need updates. Paid $7500 but put another $7500 into suspension, brakes, PCV (super important fix), coils, plugs and tires. But you can not buy a better car new or used for $15000 period.
Had a beautiful 2007 S60R in which I had an accident in this January. Car was totalled, but it kept me safe. It was such a fun car, I'd recommend it to anyone. It was impossible to find another in my area that wasn't thrashed or super overpriced, so I had to settle for a 2011 S60 T6 with polestar tune. Which I would also recommend to anyone!
Currently own an s60r and gotta say it’s like a comfy sti. It’s super awesome on long road trips and then you just hit that little advance sport button and bam you got a nice canyon carver!
Between FI and Donut, you’re outing all the awesome cars that people either never knew or totally forgotten about, then they immediately get stuck with the bro-tax.
I was questionable about getting an S60R for my project/daily but it was the best purchase ever. Amazing car and now I'm hooked on constantly doing stuff to it lol Alex explained the mood of the car perfectly
Coming from a Volvo guy who owns a V70r and a s60r, they are great cars, quirky, but the most fun part is the surprise of how good they are for being a “Volvo”.
I don’t personally own one of these but my cousin got one for 800$ and is still driving it around to this day. Everytime I drive it, there’s a smile on my face the whole time. Never wanted a car as much as one of these. Definitely a car for people that like quirky cars.
I do own one by myself! I bought it like 4 weeks ago and i love it! The engine is just awesome, the adjustable suspension is really unique / rare in cars and the interieur is a piece of art and so confortable. I love the grounded and "normal" look of the car as well. With this car you get just the right amount of everything.

marekdenn Thanks!, hope you found it interesting or helpful. You probably can’t tell but I happen to be completely obsessed with the Volvo P2 platform. I have grown up along side a M56 P26E B5244S2 (a 2001 manual V70n 2.4), my parents bought it in the summer of 2003 about 17 years later they still have it, i Love that thing. My parents where very happy with it too, so happy in-fact, they bought a second one (a 2006 manual Bi-Fuel) around 2007, which they also still have. Volvo is sort of in my blood as i have had multiple relatives who have work at Volvo Torslanda R&D and one of them still works there, the first Volvo in my family belonged to my mother granddad who had a PV4 at one point, my closest relatives has mostly had Volvos, Volkswagens and SAABs. I have worked as an apprentice at an Volvo and Renault authorized dealer, I worked manly on newer Volvo and unfortunately didn’t get to work much on these beautiful P2 cars, the last true Volvos.
Thanks for making this video. Just purchased my second second S60R- and just purchased the F1R F21 18x8.5 rims and Vercelli Strada ll 225/40/ZR18s. johan mattsson Look if you’re looking for a cheap, and I mean CHEAP, reliable if you know about them, turbo, manual, fwd, winter beater for literally like $800 then it’s the perfect car. My main car is mazdaspeed3. Then I store it away and enjoy my winter days in my Saab lol. Still turbo, still fun, still gaps people with mods and a tune(; sounds sick too haha.
JDM Junkies I can agree about that one but allot of my friends have them and sadly they all break down allot😕 I have nothing against them I was just not so serious in my previous comment😉 but sure it’s a very good car for a beater and the put out some good power but there’s problems with weak driveshafts, bad electronics, and especially the drain for the turbo that is under dimensioned and causes turbo failure. Sorry for my bad English😅
Great video. It’s nice to see others who are passionate about this car. I’m coming up on a year of ownership with my 07’ S60R after driving an 04’ S60 2.5 and it was absolutely worth it. I was shopping around for quite some time I managed to snag one with low mileage that had been extremely well maintained. I plan on keeping it stock since I’m more of an enthusiast than a “car guy.” Climbing behind the wheel of that thing every day always puts a smile on my face.
Love owning my V70R! Police don't look twice at you and it stuns a few of the kids who think they're fast in their slammed fiesta ST's and golf GTi's. People who know, know, but to everyone else it's a big boxy Volvo. The epitome of a sleeper! A riot to drive!

Love my 2007 m66 example, one thing you could have touched on is the aftermarket parts availability is surprising, everything from performance valves to duel plate clutches to two piece rotor kits and much much more in-between. Also it's common for guys hunting power to swap to the 2.3 5 cylinder or just take the original motor and put in mid sleeves. Either way great video and they make good sleepers to tune.
YEEEEAAAAASSSSS!!! I've been waiting for Fitment Industries to cover this!!! Volvo S60RRRRRRRRRR!!! Sorry folks... Please excuse my excessive excitement... It's been a really long year [so far]...
I'm probably picking up a metallic red 2019 S60 T6 R-Design with Polestar and about 7,000 miles on it. $31,000 for 300+ hp. Definitely a bit of a hidden gem with a luxurious interior. Volvo is really not messing around with their sound system too. If you haven't sat in a S60 with the Bower's & Wilkins system then do yourself a favor and go test one.
Fuck yeah. I’ve got an 04 with the 6 speed manual. It’s actually a lot faster than most people would assume. I regularly go 145+ (according to the spedo at least)
A coincidence that I've been using a s80 2.0T 2007 as a daily. Currently at 345k km still standing strong. Been considering to get a s60R. Thanks for the upload guys. Imma look into some right now.
I had a 2007 S60R, and I frickin’ loved that car. It wasn’t so great on the 0-60, but the 60-90 got me a couple of tickets. And the “S” button just ruled. And it was so comfortable. Buy one if you can find one. The only problem was the f*cking solenoid for the adjustable chassis, which would periodically blow, and required a solenoid and strut replacement to the tune of about two grand. Not gonna lie about that.
@@macmerges5642 2009 S60 2.5T AWD, same engine and turbo as a P2 XC70 (I think) but a sedan. I love it because it has a ton of power off the line because of the torquey engine and small turbo, but I might upgrade to a 16T turbo after I get coilovers
I generally dislike people who buy s60r. Because they buy it with the purpose of destroying it by modding it. They throw out the 4c suspension, they add their own skirts, fronts and everything. Tear the engine apart or swap it with a t5 in order to make more horsepowers and etc. Generally they destroy the thing which is a classic in the making. How many Volvo 850trs are out there today? Not very many, and out of the ones left? Which one is the one that will get sold? The one that hasn't been destroyed with mods. Only a couple of thousands of these were made and it is difficult and more difficult to get parts for them, and claiming maintenance is cheap is a joke. Buy these, take care of em, keep em original, do some racing whatever you want. But there is no reason to buy a s60r if you intend to mod it and make it into something that you could make with legit any other s60 out there.
I'm on my 4th Volvo Volvo 945 B234F (115 hp and a worn clutch, and 550.000 km on the clock) Volvo 944 B230FT (200 hp and great fun in the snow) Volvo 850 B5204 T (326 hp 18T Turbo, injectors, 3" downpipe and exhaust, large intercooler, and S60r wheels) Volvo v70r awd B5234 T4 (only chip tuning 300 hp)
Got mine this July. ‘06 with 71k at the time and now have 73k on it. In love with the thing. Only issue I’ve had was an MAF sensor and that is an easy fix. Not sure what I’m gonna do tuning wise. I’ll have to restore the wheels. Get new and thicker tires. And get the paint taken care of.
Had a friend who had one for 4 years and drove it 10k miles in 4 years. Always had my eye on it, decided to test drive it before he went to leave the country... I told myself I'd only buy it if I absolutely fell in love immediately... well, here I am. She's a lovely little thing.
No matter what the car is, unless ya know how to operate it, you will never reach it's top. This is most true with any Volvo. I myself drive "basic" Volvo S60 from 2001. BUT! It has been chipped to have 190hp

I have one. Turbo decided to nope out today. This is after the haldex went, and the radiator, and the power steering, and the water pump, and the fan, maf, timing belt, a/c, and bushings everywhere in just over a year of ownership. These cars can put you in deep, it sucks that I love it so much. Would recommend being prepared for wrenching
so you want financial stability and happiness
Oof hate to burst ur bubble but there is nothing financially stable about owning one of these😂

Oof. My guy, it is the opposite of this.
Thanks to Fitment Industries, one of the only places I can get wheels for my funky bolt pattern for my Volvo
Right on fam!!!
I literally just bought one last week and it's the best purchase I've ever made.
How has it been?
@kalani4ever359 haha that was 3 years ago and I lost the car to an accident..

Coming from a Volvo guy who owns a V70r and a s60r, they are great cars, quirky, but the most fun part is the surprise of how good they are for being a “Volvo”.
Yall made this video and for the past week I've been looking for a S60r 😂
Did you find your s60R?
I bought mine from the original owner at 80k, and I love it. Still quick and as fun as any car on the road.
i have waited ages for a ''so you want a volvo 850R'' but this is good too
I own two S60r’s. One is stock, the other is tuned with 340hp. It’s fun and sounds great. I want to build it.
Ayeee das my clip at 3:00! Thanks for crediting!!
With this car you get just the right amount of everything.
i just bought one and i was thinking of lowering it , you said the suspension is adjustable stock ?

The P2 S60/V70n face lifts explained
2001 - 2003 “face 1”
Black-ish Grey head light surrounds with the US spec receiving orange side markers, that look awful compared with the SewDM ones (in my where Swedish, Volvo purist opinion), the face 1 cars all have plastic trim on the front bumper, rear bumper and on the sides, bigger rounder mirrors, flat end needles in the gauge cluster, head light wipers and a trim pice that goes from the a pillar to the back of roof that doesn’t age well.
The R got its completely own front end, own head lights (basically the xenon variant of the face 1 headlights with a white-ish silver headlight surround), own gauge cluster blue back, “for see” active and adaptive suspension, blue coil pack cover, slimmer mirrors and Haldex AWD system that first became available on none R Volvo around 2003. Also you could get the V70 R with out “rails” which apart from 2003 you couldn’t with none R.
Early 2004, new “silver” interior trim, none R models got the slimmer sportier mirrors, new gage clusters.
2004 somewhere around 2004/2005 the HU-603 and HU-803 where faced out and replaced with the HU-650 and HU-850. (Head units). And the intelligent Marreli throttle bodys where replaced with dumb ECM controlled once on ever variant expect the Bi-fuel which got an updated Marreli throttle to match the new higher speed network in the cars.
Late 2004, New head lights (for none R cars) that for the first time where the same on the SweDM cars as the US spec ones, painted trim around the car, new front bumpers (for the none R cars), new slightly clearer tail lights and a new rear bumper.
2005, Bye bye headlight wipers hello “high pressure headlight washers”
2007, Last year of the V70n (and classic badged the last V70ns were), the side indicators movved from the fenders to the new slightly bigger mirrors.
2008, the S60 got new hidden pop up headlight.....washers and new badges in the back to match the disaster that was the new mk3 V70 and new mk2 S80.
2009,last year of the p2 S60.
Nice write up

Romyan Good point. Yikes didn’t think about that 😂
JDM Junkies I can agree about that one but allot of my friends have them and sadly they all break down allot😕 I have nothing against them I was just not so serious in my previous comment😉 but sure it’s a very good car for a beater and the put out some good power but there’s problems with weak driveshafts, bad electronics, and especially the drain for the turbo that is under dimensioned and causes turbo failure.

Honestly the main reason I watch these videos as for that Montage with a beat drop in the intro, perfectly executed every time
Love my 2007 m66 example, one thing you could have touched on is the aftermarket parts availability is surprising, everything from performance valves to duel plate clutches to two piece rotor kits and much much more in-between. Also it's common for guys hunting power to swap to the 2.3 5 cylinder or just take the original motor and put in mid sleeves.
Either way great video and they make good sleepers to tune.
