Just got my HX Stomp today and absolutely floored with so many options suddenly available to me. This video could not have come out at a better time, Thank you!
I have an HX Stomp I have owned for a little over a year, it is nice for guitar, and I just started exploring the depths of options available for bass. Thank you for the video, the HX is going to change my approach to bass. Shuffle looper alone is a game changer. Stereo rigs are easy, too. Fun stuff.
I just received my HX Stomp XL less than a week ago, and I love it already! I'll have to buy both your and Ian's presets! :D I look forward to the Regal Bass DI vs. your Noble! It could be a great series of videos, comparing the real-deal pedals against the Helix version (you could even compare the Ampeg B15 & SVT presets to what Ampeg has in the Venture amps!). Fantastic video, Janek!
That was incredibly helpful! I've had my Stomp XL for a couple of years and am inching toward putting it on my "live" board. One aspect that I still can't seem to grasp is how Snapshots work. The manual is pretty vague. I'll get it eventually. And when I do, I'm sure it'll be a game changer!
Most definitely has a bit crusher in the stomp, it’s hidden with the fuzz’s/distortions. Thanks for doing AND sharing this, super cool and helpful to hear your process. Looking forward to seeing you in Chicago!
The bitcrusher is in the stomp, but it is lackluster to my ears I have a Favorite saved with it, but I would rather use my Meris Ottobit jr every time.
44:44 If you just need a simple 2 loop switcher then you can't get much smaller than the gigrig quarter master 2. You could even go with the 4 for more loops but it's longer obviously. Still probably takes up the same overall space as the Swiss things though, just long instead of square
Thanks for the video, love seeing more on HX Stomp for bass and home studio setup. Can you comment on what your studio monitor speaker setup is like to get good reproduction of your produced DAW sound? Do you get all the tones in room with just 2 monitors (speaker size?) or do you have a powered subwoofer in addition to your monitors to get the deep/low notes and rumble? Thanks!
Man, it was great watching you build a preset in real time. I was thinking it might make for a fun stream, just building presets live... But you'd probably have a lot of backseat builders. Anyhoo, can't wait to check out the new presets when they're ready!
39:52 Just FYI: the Stomp DOES have a bitcrusher in the Distortion models. It's "just okay" at best, though. Certainly nowhere close to a Frantabit or Bitmap 2. But you can assign an expression pedal to control the High Cut parameter in the Stomp's bitcrusher, much like controlling the filter on the Bitmap. Just make sure to assign the Min/Max High Cut values to taste though, or part of the expression sweep will seem like it's not doing anything because the High Cut frequency starts at 20kHz.
I haven’t read through all of the comments but there is a bitcrusher/sample rate reducer under the distortion bank. That may get you closer to the sound you were trying to get towards the end of the video. Thanks for everything!
I came to say the same thing! I love the bitcrusher, it's super usable for a lot of different things. Makes a KILLER fuzz for bass and I think it could work for the John Davis thing too.
An option for Australia, specifically Canberra; Smiths Alternative. It’s a relatively small venue, but they have a very good local audience that are down for a lot. I used to play here years ago, mostly as a smaller venue when touring by road. Not sure if you’d fly between cities or drive, but it’s an option.
I've never played Canberra before, so this is an awesome suggestion. Looks like the venue is about 100 capacity and not having any family or friends there I'm guessing I won't need much of a guest list. If we could make this happen between Sydney and Melbourne, it would be really cool.
@@janekgwizdala That’s exactly what we did, used it as a mid-week venue in between the major cities on the way north/south. It’s too late for this year, but something to keep in the back of mind for future, outside Canberra in the Snow Region of Jindabyne/Perisher, every year around the beginning of June for the snow season starting they have what’s called the “Perisher Peak Festival”, an eclectic mix of genres over a long weekend on the mountain. Accomodation is usually comped, and it’s another way to fill dates on a larger road tour. Good for any other touring band in Oz to consider too!
I just sent an email to my buddy Nick Granville down there. Great guitar player I did some gigs with in NZ way back in 2013. Hopefully he can shed some light on who to talk to at the festival. It's perfect timing being slap bang in the middle of the two weeks I've set aside to do this!
It would be awesome to see you play in Wellington! I would definitely make the small trip down from Palmerston North. There are lots of great small and large venues
There is a small but very enthusiastic jazz audience in Newcastle north of Sydney. There is a great little venue at The Grand Hotel which is dedicated to jazz. We have had a few international acts through.
just discovered you and your page. the tonesssss. I just got the hx stomp and was wanting to use the tone x to pair for "better bass tones" but it's lacking or im deff doing something wrong., but compared to the bass captures on the quad its a big difference lol. love the reverb presets
Great video Janek!!...Just wondering how you use the Swiss Things Earthquake device with the Helix Stomp...How do you connect the two? Loop 1 or 2? How are you using the A and B outs etc..... Thanks, Glyn
Hey Janek, for Sydney, Aus: Lazybones Lounge, Camelot Lounge, Foundry 616 are all solid rooms. Smaller club vibes there. The Factory is a bigger room that is more of a usual music venue for touring acts. Doo-Bop is a good venue in Brisbane, but I'm not from there and haven't played there in a few years. Cool when I was there tho, there was a jam after our gig which was a fun time.
I've heard some great things about the Foundry over the years, it would be great to get a direct contact for them if you have one. If they're into doing maybe a couple of nights with an international band like this, and the capacity is high enough to make it work, this could be a really nice option for Sydney.
@@janekgwizdalaBrisbane local here👋. Doo Bop is a great venue but have transitioned into more of a blues/rock type venue. Jazz Music Institute would be a great place to go. Definitely one of the best places to see jazz in Brisbane. Will Vinson, Eric Alexander, and some Lincoln Center players have all done gigs there. Since it’s a university, it would also be a great place to hold a masterclass.
Been putting the Regal in my signal chain too. Would LOVE to see the shootout with a real Noble. I've got a custom built Ampeg B15-style tube preamp that isn't too far off from the Noble tone wise, and I've been using the Regal to not have to take my fancy faberge egg preamp off to gigs where someone is going to goof off and fall over on my pedal board or spill beer on it or something. Also, my guitarist got me hip to the TILT EQ to use as a bass boost, just set the frequency it "tilts" at to like 200hz. I add a very mild "Dynamic Hall" to the footswitch on that one to engage a little verb at the same time for when I need to poke out of the mix for a bass break or a solo or something.
Just ordered 2 books the pentatonic one and the jazz one , hoping to better my chops , next I’ll get the sight reading my sight reading is subpar to say the least I’ve learned mainly by ear and tabs .
Based on the fact that I use the HX Stomp literally every day of my life, I would have to recommend it over everything out there in the market at that price point right now.
I really apprecdiate this video being new to HX Stomp. I have your new complete presets. Waiting on the pedalnetics to arrive. Thanks For Sharing. Question about the new Presets: Will I have to purchase all of the presets again to get the new presets?
are you wearing two watches? No wonder your timing is so perfect (*badum tsss*) Just kidding, love all the content. Long time follower here, greetings from germany ;)
It’s all very well to dislike processed music. But to say buttons and knobs are there to amuse us, which I take to mean distract us? Not really that accurate when you consider the amount of incredible music that has been made involving knobs…
loool this is the same as saying you don't eat chemicals in food. All food is chemicals, and all music is processed. You've never heard a bass without at least compression on it
You have two fantastic options available to you here: 1) you could choose not to watch 2) you could produce the video you would like to see instead of saying something isn’t want you wanted it to be despite having had no control over the production. Either way, I appreciate you taking the time to comment to help this video do better. 👍

I bought one about 3 hrs before this video came out today… ditto!
Mine will be here today.
Oh my god....I can't believe how amazing it sounds...I loved it from the first preset
So dope to see you hook up with my dude Ian Allison recently!
I thought Janek was going to snap talking about the comments on moving the mic stand. People are focusing on the wrong thing. Love the vids.
As a relatively new Stomp XL owner this is an incredibly exciting video to see pop up today
This is great. Please go farther into the process, as that is the hardest part, getting to the point of finalizing a sound. Thanks Janek!

Is it possible for you to do an in depth review of the Neural DSP Quad Cortex?
